[Q] disable saving contacts to phone - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey guys ive googled for this but havent found anything
I want to know if there is a way to disable new contacts being saved to the phone and only save them to my google account, or atleast make google contacts the default save location when creating a new contact instead of having to change it every time. I have rooted my phone, am currently using the people app but ill use something else if it gets the job done, and dont mind getting down and dirty with system files lol any help on this subject would be appreciated

Small facebook & contact issues

I'm sort of stabbing in the dark here, but my issue is this: When I open my received text messages, the peoples contacts that I have sync'ed with facebook should show their photo. This is how it worked when I first got my phone.
I have done a few factory resets since then, and yesterday loaded a new rom. I loaded my contacts that I had backed up to SD card.
For some strange reason ALL of my contacts have hiphens ( - ) in their phone numbers. I think this is causing some texts to not be delivered.
Also, when in the messages window, all of my contacts photos wont be displayed. But if I go to the people directory they are displayed fine.
Now, is there a way I can delete the cache or similar without factory resetting the rom?
I have rom manager, and I used this to reboot into recovery before loading a new rom. In there was options for deleting cache and things (to be honest I didn't know which was the correct one so I did them all before loading a new rom). Now when I go into rom manager it just loads a sign like this a!
so I cannot try that again.
Thanks for any help given!!
Why did you back up to memory card if they're going to be saved to the cloud via your Google account?
Otherwise I have no answer for your question.

I had all sorts of problems with the facebook integration.
The magor one I had was that the phone would automatically use the facebook phone number and not the one in the phone which was very annoying when people put fake numbers in their facebook profile or don't update for their new number and also all the numbers had a +44 on them which meant my phone wouldn't dial them at all!
My advice is remove your facebook account and see what happens. The try adding it again. If the problems persist then keep it removed. Life will be easier without your phone and facebook contacts being merged and updated all the time... trust me!

Thanks for your replies.
Regarding the backing up of contacts, does anyone recommend a GOOD FREE app for backing them up? I simply do not wish to use Google to back up my contacts. They are personal, and I would prefer to keep them on the phone. Google contacts is pointless to me.
If you would like Google contacts I have no say but I would rather not have my contacts spread out all over the place, with different versions etc...
It's going to take me forever to edit everyones phone number, and each time I flash a ROM I'll need to do it again..
Worst still, since flashing PaYs ROM the Google sync actually worked for the very first time since receiving the phone - So, now Google contacts has all of my contacts but the phone numbers have dashes is ( - ) which is wrong. Like the person above me, us in the UK have issues when dialing strange numbers!
Google contacts is fine, means you never have to worry about them being backed up as it's automatic...otherwise you've gotta sync them with yur email client on your PC which is hassle...I was a stickler for backing up to Outlook but now use Google...
The dashes come up after restoring contacts from the SD card...don't know why it does it but it can't be removed (another reason not to back up to sd card)
while in the htc people app, just press menu button then you can export your contacts to your sd card, which you can then later on import again.

You asked for a way to back up your contacts without syncing them with google contacts, I provided you with a way to save them without having to use any app.
(it's the dutch flag, just made the World cup soccer finale)

Fair play, but it is this way of backing up contacts that is giving us the problems as per post #1 and this discussion
I have done a few factory resets since then, and yesterday loaded a new rom. I loaded my contacts that I had backed up to SD card.

Try contact2sim
Limitation of course is the small sim memory for numbers only.
Astro file manager has some backup capabilities. HTC sync....

[Q] Restoring Deleted Files! Help

Hi People,
So I spent the great deal of this weekend setting up my phone so that it is rooted. I had great pleasure in deleting unwanted applications HOWEVER I was a little trigger happy and managed to delete a contacts system file. Not sure what it was exactly but this is what happened;
I can no longer save contacts under 'phone contacts'... in order to get them in the contacts list and keep them there I have to group them with my google account. Even though I have no way of viewing my saved phone contacts... their name appears on the messages they send me, so obviously the contact details are being saved somewhere in the depth of the system??? How do I fix this hole so I can save and view contacts AS phone contacts??
Look forward to hearing your responses to my prediciment. Also I have an Xperia Arc version 2.3.4
Thanks!

First take backup of your phone.
Then you can start from scratch, restore orginal firmware with flashtool and root again.
Always backup. I had the same thing but I was able to simpky restore it with TitaniumBackup

[Q] Battery issues, upgrade, contacts

Recently my phone has started to just cut out for no reason, I've had a look around the forum for help but I'm also not very good with phones.
I'm guessing I need to reset the phone for it to work but i want to keep all my contacts. (How would i do that?)
I also don't mind improving the phone with new software if you guys suggest it, as long as you let me know how to do it.
Would much appreciate any help and suggestions from you guys

if you're syn with Google account you don't have to do backup for your contacts but if you don't you can use this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts&feature=search_result
to backup contacts and messages and call log

Pulling contacts from bootlooping phone?

Hi there, first off i'm new to the forum here And second, since i've been reading many threads on here before and seen
experienced members and what not i thought you people could help me on the way here with my problem.
The problem is that i can start my phone but it always keeps looping at the CM logo so i can't get it to start fully.
And since i have a new phone on the way i thought i would ask you guys if it would be possible to pull my contacts
from my phone even though i can't start it fully? Since i don't have the option to save a contact to the sim-card when
adding a new contact i have been forced to save to the phone. I know i could have synced it with a google account
but sceptic as i am i do not trust those stuff.
I hope i gave you guys enough information of my problem, if not then please do ask if you want to know something.
Thanks in advance

Have you backed them up somehow? In .vcf format? If not then there is no other way to restore them.......you should have backed you contacts on your google account,it saved me a couple of times

[Q] Need some help w/ syncing info from one Note 2 to another

Hey guys, the charging port on my T-Mobile Note 2 recently started acting up, so I called for a replacement (phone charging port actually ended up fixing itself on the original phone). Anyways, I got the replacement phone, and I've connected my google account to it, which has all my phone numbers saved. When I try to sync the contacts to the new replacement phone, it won't show all the contacts, just older contacts. Can anyone help me out? Also, do you know if I can transfer my old messages too? I'm not rooted either.
Sorry if these are annoying, or common questions, but I'd really like some help before I have to send my original phone back to T-Mobile. I'd really appreciate any and all feedback, thank you.
Hi.. U CANT sync contacts, nd whatever if u just add the gmail.
U need to factory reset the backup phone u have, and when u turn it on.. it will ask u some info and also it will ask u if u have a google account or a gmail.. enter the gmail, and google will automatically sync them, but u need a working wifi first.
GIVE ME A THANKS BUTTON IF I HELPED
