OCLF Tab Support - Galaxy Tab Android Development

Since the SGS variants and the Tab are very similar, the OCLF app should work with only minor changes. And here is a version with these minor changes. If anybody with a tab could give it a try and let me know if it works? Thanks!
One Click Lag Fix is a popular application on the Android Market for SGS (I9000, captivate, etc) devices that helps speed up the RFS filesystem by using a loop mounted EXT2.
2.2.6 Update
2.2.6 contains a bug fix that was preventing it from installing. Thanks for the bug report!
2.2.7 Update
Contains a bug fix which allows the 'undo lagfix' options to work on the Tab.

Ive read that this bricked one of our users tabs. Also, i dont experience any lag.

Wont work. I tried to root with OCLF from recovery console. Can't apply update.zip.
There is very much lag especially when browsing web.

There is no lag. You have to learn android, understand the apps. Read this forum and you will...
To fix browser lag, use a better browser. I really dont see how you could be experiencing lag anywhere else!

If yoe ever use iphone you will see the lag

When I saw RyanZA post in the Tab forum, I had a miniature joygasm
I'll test out your OCLF on my Tab and let you know how things go.
You should be proud to be the first dev to give the Tab some <3.
Thanks man.

well? what lag is this fixing for you?

I haven't had time to install the OCLF yet (at work right now), but I will.
I also confess that the stock Tab is pretty speedy (in comparison to the stock SGS), but my SGS with lagfix is quite a bit faster than stock Tab.
The Tab has such potential! I hope RyanZA helps realize that potential, and though I don't "need" the OCLF, I sure want to help him out by testing it

Haha, I don't actually have a Tab so it's a bit hard to test stuff out.
That said, most anything from the SGS phones should port right over to the Tab without any issue. Most notably, z4mod http://www.sgscompilebox.dreamhosters.com/ should work well too.
As far as bricking, I don't believe it's possible for OCLF to brick a Tab. If anybody runs into any issues though, let me know so I can try fix em up. Or don't, I don't get anything out of this anyway, so less bug reports just means less work required.

2.2.6 Update is now in the first post, and contains a bugfix that was previously preventing the installation from completing on the Tab.

I tried some time ago

I tried it some time ago. I had to do something to make it install (I think creating or renaming a file, don't remenber). After the reboot Tab kept on going in a loop (black screen, Samsung logo, two vibrations) without rebooting.
After that, I almost breaked the device, but for a long story (I repartitioned I suppose with a wrong PIT, then when I was backupping the NAND I had a power fault, ecc ecc) not OCLF fault.
If you have ideas of the reasons of the loop, I can retry.

This is the man I was referring to ryanza. Bootloop!

That guy got the bootloop because he used the SGS version of the OCLF on his Tab.
Ryan has kindly decided to port his OCLF to the Tab, and I gotta say, that's pretty great of him, considering he doesn't even have one to test.
But I can confirm that this version he has released here does NOT bootloop or otherwise jeopardize your Tab. I've run it, and as far as I can tell, it doesn't work just yet. But it's close

Indeed, these are happy days for all.

Does the GT have lag issues to the same extent of the Galaxy S?
Hopefully the CM6 project will have a stable for the GS and with any luck it'll be an easy jump to the GT from there which should deal to the issue and then some.

SGT does not experience neither lag nor GPS issues SGS suffer.

Yep, I concur. The SGT doesn't lag at all or we haven't reached that stage yet.

[Q] The TyTN II on Android...

First of all, I'd like to thank all the super-talented people on this board that have persevered and have managed to create and tweak these Android ports for our devices. You peeps truly are amazing! Never would I have imagined running Android on my nearly-ancient TyTN II, but now I can.
Now that the praise is out of the way...
Are there any (or are there any coming soon) Android ports that would allow for full functionality on my TyTN II and actually be stable? For example, USB connectivity doesn't appear to work. As soon as I connect it to my PC, it starts and stops continuously. The Bluetooth functionality seems to be present, but whenever I attempt to connect a headset to the device, it only recognizes it for music playing, not for calls or as a hands-free device. In addition, it doesn't matter whether I overclock or not, I'm still hounded by constant application crashes and it seems to get worse the longer the device is on. These things (at the least) are constants no matter which port I install.
Any ideas or suggestions?
In the end, I'm still very thankful for all the talent here at XDA and am amazed at all you've accomplished.
Thanx again.
I have had my old Tytn2 running Android fast and stable for weeks now - details in my sig. Edit the nbh for Kaiser and your panel then you just need to do two extra things:
1. Run the wifi fix
2. Get hold of an app called SD Dual Mount for USB mass storage.
Not sure about BT. I don't use it on mine.
Like you I am in total awe of these guys getting Android working so well on our ancient devices.
u can run it but its not going to be as stable as a native android phone i dont think...
Eventually it will be.
So, nothing right now to stabilize and utilize the full functionality of a BlueTooth headset? Thanx again.
Question... is the 2.6.25 supposed to be better than the 2.6.32 ??

Nope, they are the same as linux kernels just ported to our phones. .25 is almost two years old lol. It is stable though as it is more developed for our kaiser.

What will i miss on using the .25 ? and what will i gain?
I've seen things like "2.6.25 users get the wifi patch here"
So we need a patch for wifi ?

Personally I'd go with .32 at this point. .25 isn't any more stable on my phone as far as crashes and lockups are concerned. And data loss issues with .32 seem to be mostly ironed out (I would still keep a /data backup in case tho).
Plus the performance increase from .25 to .32 is well worth it.

32 is probably better at this point. For quite a while, 2.6.25 would survive crashes better, but I think they're pretty much equal now in that regard. The 25 branch doesn't get attention of developers anymore.
Not to mention the .25 kernel is right about 2 years old now.

kernel update
sorry for dummies question, but...
I have tytn ii as all of you, and have same bug with all 3 versions of Android setuped on it.
The microphone not working at least, so when i call somebody, i hear him, but he isn't hear me.
All other, include wifi, internet working good.
I found that it's well-known bug, and kernel version change could help.
But how to change it?
All versions i downloaded, based on 2.6.25, it's 2.6.25-01106-g50cf5f2-dirty on my device.
I found zImage file 2.6.32 but when i change zImage in andboot and restart - it's don't help.
i found NBH file for tytn ii ( kaisimg-panel2-240x320-2.6.32-tilt-froyo-09-09-10_21.nbh) , but how to install it?
Pls help!
Try one of these:

If ur having problems look for a guy named l1qu1d, look at his signature it says something bout "atools" click on it and follow the guide....

[Q] Help needed? Please?

Hello!
I have stock EH06 Rom Everything working ok but very often my Epic 4G rebooting by itself. I've tried to find a reason why it is happening but couldn't.
Does somebody have this problem too? May be somebody know how to fix it? Or, may be you can give me some advice how to find a reason why it is happens?
Please, help me, guys?
Thank you very much!
God bless you!
wellllll its a leaked build with many reports already of memory leaks and random rebooting in the actual thread . I had bonsai b16 eh06 and never experienced it. I'd recommend trying one of the custom roms here instead of stock I remember while browsing I saw posts of less frequent/no reboots. meh

You are a victim of the infamous Gingerbread RAM leak you may have read about. The only options seem to be to add Juwe's RAM script or the V6 Supercharger script. That and try to limit the apps that are open. It seems to happen once available RAM gets below 100MB. If you can't find the scripts, let me know and I can get you the links.

[DEV][CDMA/GSM] Group Effort to Optimize Existing HoneyComb Ports

Full credit goes to Ssserpentine, SpaceMoose, and OldMacnut for their work on their united efforts to port Honeycomb to our tablets! It seems they are no longer working on it so I decided to create this thread and see what we all could to do together to improve what they have given us!
The point of this thread is to find ways to gather anyone with knowledge on developing, even if its just the "lowly 7-Zippers" like me, to see how we can remove minor bugs and small issues from the ROM. I know Oldmacnut was going to pick it up, but he has a lot on his plate right now and he has been in pain and is more interested in finishing the CM7 Port instead. I respect his decision, but so many people want honeycomb working on our tabs. So I am turning to the dev community here to see if we can group together and fix things in this rom together. If we cant solve the major bugs, lets address all the little things, cuz the little things add up.
Spacemoose made a list of suggestions from users earlier on how to solve minor issues, and little workarounds, but I would like to see if there is a way to roll up those fixes into one full updated ROM flashable through a zip/odin/heimdall file, and see if we can come up with more. You can see this post here, but I have added them to the second post as well in a more organized form.

I would really love a Honeycomb ROM for the Galaxy Tab. There are many reasons why I want to put Honeycomb onto the original Galaxy Tab.
Just see the difference for yourself: Blank space, single pane, one-category-at-a-time menus in Gingerbread
VS.
Less blank space, concise, dual pane interfaces in Honeycomb.
Gingerbread apps are just designed for smaller smartphone screens, so they look too big and spaced-out on the 7-inch Galaxy Tab for my taste. I would really love to see some tablet-optimized apps on the Galaxy Tab!
-------------------------
And yes, I respect the developers and appreciate them so much for the time they put into making custom roms a reality for us!
Please make the thread for GSM also.

Why no mention of ssserpentine?
In op or thread tittle?
He worked on the GSM version.
Moose did the major part of the port and the cdma version.
That other person stumbled, or so he claims, on a audio fix. Never saw a release of this apparent audio fix.
Wonder how many donations he got on open thread with no release posted.
Hmm.
Makes ya wonder why that thread is even there.
Dole out the credits properly.
Just know it needed to be said, and go ahead and get mad. Truth hurts.
alot of angry responces coming, maybe, but dare ya to point out a single lie in this post. Even an exaggeration.
Moose did hc for MONTHS and noone offered any valid help, except ssserpentine, why do you think anyone is gonna get off their but now?
Why don't you, punkrock?
Cause I know how utterly hopeless this task is.
Why don't you all just wait for the leak of the next os?
That so much closer than some random Joe, or Joe's on xda getting hc ported at this point .
is the dead horse braised yet?
Still, hope is eternal, I suppose

Easy man, in my frenzy of trying to organize the thread, I forgot to credit Ssserpentine in the OP, youre right he did contribute a lot, no need to be rash, I will update it right now.
EDIT: btw oldmacnut did make an audio fix, im running his rom right now, I downloaded it when he had it posted before he took it down, and Im sure some of the bugs I mentioned are fixable on the rom level rather than through adb. My goal wasnt to debug the rom completely, it was to incorporate all the existing bug fixes and workarounds into one rom, while possibly solving others. Also the GSM devs are aplenty here, while we barely have any CDMA, Im sure we have enough talent to make it better than what it is. It might not be flawless, but Im sure we can squeeze more functionality out of it.
Its weird,
Honeycomb is more or less froyo based, obviously as we had hc long before gb, so at the time when I started getting into this whole dev thing hc/froyo seemed just different to me.
But after working on the abortion called gingerbread, and working onbthe kernel stuff, froyo to me, is starting to look like a much more viable and dev friendly option.
Alot if the work Dan did in hc was from scratch, or from the sdk, etc. The audio fix I did was from both.
The big issue on getting hc up and going into a usuable rom is source, we really really need that source for hc. Otherwise, its going to be a long drawn out road of trial and error building with alot of these issues never really getting fixed.
Truth is,
No device with our hardware exists with hc, so no drivers that we need.
We need Google to release the hc source.
I liked hc on my tab just like y'all, but.......I know its just a novel weekend fun toy till we get better resources.

Yeah I know, the lack of source sucks along with the fact we dont have drivers. I dont think we'll have everything working anytime soon at all, if ever even, but I think some of the minor annoyances like the disappearing quick settings toggle, sdcard mounting issues, and graphical errors can be solved without that kind of stuff. Me personally, Id just like HQ Video Playback and 3D Graphics working a hundred percent along with orientation, but as you said no drivers so idk how easy that'd be. Still, Im sure we could solve some of these minor issues. I keep browsing over the Nook Color Forums trying to find hints to solving some of these things

Nice to see something happening here. I love my Tab but would like some advancements in OS to address specific issues. I am very new to the dev side of the Android OS but would like to get involved.

What blows my mind is that they have created an almost perfect HC port for the $150.00 walmart sold viewsonic g-tablet by means of the flashback roms so why is it so hard to get HC working on our tabs? And why can't someone just dump the Rom from the gtab10.1 and use that as a starting point?
On a different note, the alpha 2.5 HC Rom for gsm, the sd cards will not mount no matter what, I've tried The terminal and the mount instructions many times all I am able to do is get the tab to recognize my external sd as the internal sd, and if you try to go to settings applications and clear data for the gallery you get a force close as soon as you tap manage applications

If it were that simple I'm sure someone would have thought of that To be honest I think the problem is that the Tab is an extremely fractured device; it was really the first Android tablet to directly compete with the iPad, so it was spread as wide as possible. That's great for Samsung who got a pretty large base of customer but sucks for devs because the GSM and CDMA are 2 very different devices not to mention the P-1000N. When I got my Tab last month the first thing I noticed in this forum was the fragmentation between the different versions of Tabs. More profoundly this means that the developers are split apart, usually when one dev makes a break through everyone else can take advantage of it (i.e. the amazing Voodoo Sound/Color hacks) but not here. I feel like everyone is by themselves and I truly feel bad for the developers because they must make their own breakthroughs on top of dealing with complaints from Tab users with other versions that they want this awesome thing on their Tab. As if its no big deal to go and buy a $450 device to develop something as a hobby and then release it for free for people on the internet after already buying nearly the exact same device.
Sadly I think the Tab is a perfect storm working against modifying it in any ground breaking ways. Don't get me wrong I love my Tab and will try to help getting Honeycomb running but I almost feel like it would just be easier to wait for Ice Cream Sandwhich. /rant
Guys, there is no reason to develop honeycomb, it is inposible to make fully functional honeycomb rom, wait a month or less for ICS, read this (quote from android police posted today):
Honeycomb is closed source. Nobody can make a tablet without Google's blessing. The reason given is that Honeycomb was rushed out the door, and the code isn't good enough for an open source release. They're right you know, setting the emulator to anything smaller than a tablet will result in about a million force closes. Honeycomb just isn't as supportive of hardware as Gingerbread was. To save developers the headache of supporting a platform that wasn't ready, Android's openness got shelved.
Luckily this is going to change. The big cheese said so himself on the Official Android Developers blog, "This temporary delay does not represent a change in strategy. We remain firmly committed to providing Android as an open source platform across many device types." Source code is coming back. This will make the modding community's life much easier. Cyanogenmod 8 (I got excited just typing that) and Ice Cream Sandwich will be able to get hacked onto just about anything.

Ok done some immediate testing on my GSM Tab for some of the known issues
A) Red Border Around Screen at Random Times
Confirmed
Solution: is the same as the CDMA
B) Constant Gallery Force Close
Confirmed
Solution: Cannot be fixed through Setting, crashes as soon as you try to Manage Applications
C) Stock Launcher hangs for many seconds at a time randomly
Not really was slow on boot but no major problems
D) SD Card Does Not Mount
Confirmed
Solution: Haven't tested fix yet
E) Youtube app does not work
Confirmed
Solution: Confirmed
F) Orientation Sensor is not functional
Confirmed
Solution: "Rotating Screen" flips screen incorrectly so that capacitive buttons are on the top of the device
G) Honeycomb thinks Device Keyboard is enabled by default
Confirmed
Solution: Must be set on each boot
H) When pressing Quick Settings, an image that is semi transparent that is supposed to cover the entire screen isnt scaled properly
Confirmed
I) HQ Youtube does not work (LQ does on the mobile site)
Confirmed
J) Quick Settings Shortcut on Bottom Right Side (Wi-Fi Toggle, Brightness Slider, etc) appears for a second but disappears afterwards.
The widget that display battery level, time, etc stays active however no settings are located underneath it. While this menu is expanded a press on the bottom bar will cause the settings to briefly appear but then the whole menu will close
K) Flash Player is not Fully Functional
Not tested
"New" GSM bugs
1. Wi-fi settings are not saved on restart
2. Manage Applications and Running Services menu causes force close of settings
3. Small thing but Tab's first start had language set to Spanish (Not sure if it was spanish but it certainly was not English)
And as always 3G does not work (tried APN settings but it wouldn't let me save)
Alright I'm back to MIUI until I can find some more time on my hands

Wow now that is the kinda posts i like seeing on here! I will try to update the OP tonight with this info! Thanks so much! Definitely echo your sentiments about the fractured and fragmented development we have going on here, it really sucks =/
Ive found out that replacing the existing Gallery with Gallery3D should fix the FC that keeps popping up.
I think Ive found a working Youtube App (in LQ).
Ive also found a hint towards solving the sdcard mounting issue. Its not the vold.fstab its something either in the framework or ramdisk within the kernel, according to the Nook Color Forums.
This thread is interesting: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1062626 , actually the entire nook color forum is interesting for finding fixes.
Also changing the dalvik_heapsize to a certain value is supposed to increase app compatibility. Before I update the OP with some of these things, I wanna do a little more testing and see what I can come up with.
Sorry to bother for help,
Sorry to bother you guys for help, but I've been trying to install Oldmacnut's updated of Spacemoose's CDMA Honeycomb (2.5.1) for hours now, with no success.
I used Rodderick's awesome stock rom/kernel and got into clockworkmod (using 4.0.1.5 or 3.0.0.0), installed the zip from there, then rebooted the phone, but I would either 1) be stuck at logo for 10+ minutes 2) see the Sprint startup video loop over and over again, or 3) get stuck on a turned on, but black screen.
How did you guys install Honeycomb on your CDMA tab? Am I doing something wrong? Should I use Spacemoose's 2.5 rom instead of Oldmacnut's?
EDIT: NEVER MIND, IT BOOTED INTO HONEYCOMB. I am in a foreign language, haha, I'm guessing Portuguese?
EDIT EDIT: Google Translate detects the language as Catalan. Haha!

Hehe that happened to me as well
First Impressions and problems encountered
HOLY SHOOT THIS IS QUITE FAST!
Considering there is no graphics acceleration support, Honeycomb runs much faster than I anticipated. SD card support is fantastic, and so is hearing sound! (I love you OMC) The UI is awetastic and the standard web browser is blazing fast. Scrolling in web pages is faster on Honeycomb than on Gingerbread stock.
The jittery touch screen bug I have is still there, unfortunately. Damn bug drives me crazy sometimes. I'm sure somebody has this problem that many of us have but have not found a fix to: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970965
Basically, when I hold down my finger to scroll on white or light-color backgrounds, the screen shakes back and forth in a spastic, noticeable way, especially when I hold it in place. This happens on every single rom I've been on, froyo, GB, CM7, and now Honeycomb. Has anyone found a fix for that yet?
Anyways, I think all the known Honeycomb bugs are true to me too. Youtube force closes on me, GPS doesn't work, auto-orientation doesn't work. Strangely enough, Quick Settings doesn't work for me. Anyone encounter that?

[REQ] Photowall from the Galaxy Note

I have no idea how one would edit the APK to work, but I'm wondering if someone could patch this to work on the Galaxy S2, I fell in love with it on my Note

I've tried decompiling the APK to see what I can gather from it. At least based on what I'm understanding, I don't think the "primary" software is the photowall.apk itself at all. It appears to just be the setting screen, and configuration related things.
Perhaps someone with more knowledge could help? It might be embedded within Touchwiz itself though, which would suck, but ah well.
Oddly enough, I was going to close the thread, it wouldn't load in Gingerbread, or LPQ, However, on the new build of LP2 ICS, it loads without a hitch, so I don't need anyone to fiddle with it Thanks for your effort!
Don't mind me, just informing you that Photo Wall.apk from the SGS3 works just fine by installing it.
I must say that it is quite laggy, but I'm pretty sure it's the phone itself not having enough memory.
EDIT: You can't choose your own gallery, just tried it. It switches back to the default screens you get with the app itself.

[Q] Complete Action Using?

Some times when I try to open an apk, movie, etc., I get:
COMPLETE ACITON USING
(SELECT APK)
ALWAYS JUST ONCE
When I select the Apk
I select Always
Then I get the display:
CLEAR DEFAULT
OK
I select OK and that apk opens.
My question is even though I selct ALWAYS and CLEAR DEFAULT OK it never stays as the default even when I don't restart/reboot.
Is there some way I can associate an APK with a specific action/ext, etc.?
Apparently there is no solution for this? Thanks for viewing it.

I see where 119 people have viewed this posting.
Has anyone else found this to be the same on their Note 2 as I described?
This is really something that I think is annoying. Why can't the Note 2 OS accept that a specific ext. is always opened by a specific apk?
Would really like some opinions on this.
Thanks!
On my note if I choose always, it gives me information how to clear defaults and next time I open that kind of file it starts choosen app without asking.

You are not alone. I had flashed handful of TW based roms on my Note 2 and this always occurs so I live with it. I am on Tweaked rom now and aside from this irritating flaw, it's perfect. I was a flashoholic and Tweaked rom cured me. I hope there is a fix but if not no big deal.
Edit: I had just cleared defaults for all user apps and tested and it works! OP and Dwitherell, I apologize for posting before testing. I had this issue for so long I always select "once" automatically.

Really...? Interesting. So no matter what the situation is, if you pick an app to act as default for something (like clicking a link have a particular browser used to open it) that default is not saved? If you go into Application Manager and go to the app you believe you set as default that is not behaving as such, is there an option to clear defaults there? Just curious - I have yet to experience such an inability to set defaults. I wonder if there is a common factor that is interfering in some way here. Do either of you have xposed framework installed? I remember there was one out there that let you choose the interface for selecting default apps (the jellybean/stock style or the ICS-based style) - perhaps that is causing an issue...? I'm really just stabbing in the dark here, I have little in the way of clues as to why the default selection is not sticking.
Been working on a solution for days. Thanks to all of you who have posted.
However, even when I rest defaults by going into:
Settings>Application Manager>Reset App preference (which will reset all preferences for: Disabled apps, Disabled app notifications, Default applications for acttions, Background data restrictions for apps.)
>Reset apps.
Then I go into a specific application and check to see if (Launch by Default is set) there are - no defaults set.
Tried this many times and it still has not solved the prolem.
I am running Stock Android version 4.1.2, Baseband version T889UVBMD1, Kernal vdersion 3.0.31-935627, Build number JZO54K T889UVBMD1.
Any other suggestions? Glad to hear I am not the only one who is experiencing this. It is very annoying.

It works on Tweaked rom. I didn't apply any fix cuz like you I couldn't find any fix. For a long period of time I lived with this annoying problem. It didn't occur to me to try clear defaults and test to see if it works until I saw Dwithrell's post. I believed only my phone had this problem. I highly recommend trying Tweaked rom after you back up. If you decide you don't like it, you can always restore back. On my Note 2, I installed Tweaked rom, Alexia's Theme, Perseus Kernel, Viper Audio, and Crossbreeder. If you need links, I post them for you.

Thanks for your help. However, I have flashed many ROMs in the past and never really found much value in doing so. always the possibility of bricking your phone. From what I read lately about flashing Note 2 ROMs there are risks which I don't think I want to take. Your opinion?

My 1st smartphone was Samsung Galaxy S1 Captivate. I was glued to Captivate Android Developement forum and flashed many roms, kernels, modems, and mods and tweaks. There were always risks and anything I had flashed then had problems. Nothing was satisfying. So, I would turn to the xda forums to seek fixes. It was a never ending cycle. Then I got my Note 2. The cycle started again. All the roms, kernels, and mods had issues. TW roms were more stable than AOSP based so I only flashed TW based roms. I wanted to try Tweaked rom when I first saw it but reading the first page was intimidating. I didn't want to come close to bricking my Note 2 like I have with Captivate. It's pain in the butt to fix and very time consuming. Finally after getting courage to flash Tweaked rom, I am glad I did. I still have the itch to flash different roms when update is available, I don't. Except tweaked rom update. It's stable and every feature that I use my Note 2 for works and works great. Tweaks the tweaked rom offers, correct color display by Perseus kernel, beautiful theme by Alexia, awesome sound by Viper when it works( still asking to install driver once in a while but worth it), and network tweaks from CrossBreeder makes an AWESOME and STABLE combinations. Stock is good and stable but once you take a leap and decide to try custom, try my combinations. They are STABLE and BETTER than stock. Lastly, I want to thank all the developers in XDA putting their time and effort into the deveolpement.

Thanks for the info. I just found an app that supposedly will ROOT any Android phone. It is called KINGO Android Root. I have downloaded it and will try it tomorrow to root my Note2. Wondering if anyone has tried this with any luck?

FYI - Just completed my Root and it took ~ 3 minutes. I know it is rooted since I can now use Titanium Backup Pro.
