long time lurker, first time poster.
So I've had the EVO for about 2 months and really love it; however, from the beginning I have had people callign me, i answer and can't hear them....they hear me fine. Now, recently, I'll dial a #, phone's screen says it's ringing, but it's not, and then the call will just drop. Both situations happen w/ full bars on 3G and it's very, very frustrating.
Phone does everything great except.....ya know......when it needs to be a phone. lol!
Here's my current setup:
ROM: VaelPak 2.3
Kernel: HTC 10 (whichever comes w/ vael's 3.3_
ROOT: unrevoked
Baseband: 2.15.00.09.01
PRI: 1.77_003
Thanks a lot!
My GF and I have been having a very similar problem. Have you found out anything about it yet?
What happens to us is that the receiving person can't hear anything, however the caller can. I just tested it out, and I could call her phone, and hear sound from her phone, but couldnt hear anything from my phone. If I hung up and called my phone with hers, I could hear my phone but couldnt hear hers. This happened several times in a row. Once (while I was just testing it) I couldnt hear anything from either phone, then mine started ringing again during the call as if I 3-wayed called someone. This has happened before. I hung up, called again, and it worked. Then the problem started again.
We both have EVOs, I have google voice which I was bypassing when calling out, and both of of phones are rooted, hers with the stock rom, mine with myns two point. I have not had this problem calling anyone else except her phone, however I don't much of anyone else.
Do you have Google Voice?

When I am on a call and another person rings, most of the time when I try to accept the incoming call the phone will hang. If I wait until the incoming call give up then sometimes I can go back to the first call but often I lose both.
When the phone loses both calls, it shows no service for about 10 seconds then finds a signal and can then be used again.
I thought the issue was with the Black Edition ROM but even when I have switched to Schaps the problem exists.
I have never updated the radio on my phone as I am pretty sure I bricked my last one doing a radio update. It is still with the orginal T-Mobile UK radio stack.
Any ideas?
Cheers
Aidan
did you install some programs that might be conflicting with that? I had that issue before and I format the phone and start all over and the problem is gone now.
Twice in the last hour I've made calls on the phone, and twice the call has started fine, as you would expect, but then, the call goes completely garbled. An unintelligible digital mess.
Any ideas why, and has anyone else noticed this problem?
Sorry for the bump mods.
Has no-one else experienced this issue?
Could it be a carrier issue rather than the phone?
I just found it weird that yesterday two or 3 calls I made yesterday, in fairly close succession all had the same issue - ie garbled and incomprehensible audio.
Maybe I need to send the phone back?
I have the same problem on mine, but less frequently. It sounds like a Transformer and then I get cut off.
I'm with 3, so I just assumed it was a carrier problem rather than a handset problem.
Im on T-Mob and Ive got it 2-3 times as well!
I was using Google Nav on a roadtrip last week and I tried making a phone call. Now once the phone downloads all the maps over the data connection (which it already had), there's no reason you can't run GPS and voice at the same time. I do it on my wife's Motorola Droid all the time and never have an issue.
What happened with the EVO was strange. I understand that if voice and data try working at the same time it will cause an error and they won't work, but in this particular case, my phone rebooted itself.
I thought it was a one time thing, so I tried it a bunch more times and found that each time, it rebooted. Sometimes it took a minute, sometimes a few, but it always happened.
I am running stock 1.32.651.6 (not updating/flashing till CM6 comes out) with unrevoked (so I can use wireless tether).
Can anyone else test to see if they encounter the same problem?
I've had VZW Moto Droid and I now have the Sprint EVO and I can talk while the Google navigation is going. I know its still on because the NAV lady blast her voice while I'm talking.
not that you mention it, I remember this happened to me once couple of days ago. I was like WTH? my EVO never rebooted itself, that was the first time
since then I do not think I used the GPS while on a call so I will try it again and see what happens
i have not had this issue.
I've had this issue twice, only two times the phone has ever rebooted on me.
Both times I had pandora (or last.fm) playing in the background, navigation actively running, and then the phone would ring.. within the first 30 seconds of trying to take the call the phone rebooted itself
Yes Evo + GPS + Phone call + Unrevoked = REBOOT !
I have consistently experienced this problem and think UNREVOKED is possibly the culprit. I will attempt to UN-unrevoke my phone and see if GPS + Phonecall = Reboot or if it's only with UNREVOKED installed. I have experienced this reboot on at least 5 occassions while incall and driving.

Hi, just want to start out saying that the Evo is such an amazing phone!
But.... there is this issue.
Sometimes (less then %10 of the time) and at random as far as i know, when i am making and receiving a phone call I only hear my voice in an echo. Like when you have 2 phones, you call one, and talk and listen to both at the same time. I can NOT hear anything else except my own voice, when obviously the person on the other end is talking. I have to hang up and try again. One time, this happened 4 times in a row, but usually its just once.
When I'm at home, Im connected to the Airave. Im not sure this has anything to do with it as I dont specifically remember having this issue when Im not connected to it. Ill try to remember if this happens again when im not on the Airave.
Anyone have this problem?
I am rooted and am running a Sense based rom (something thats almost pure stock Sense).
Also, on another note, is there someway to fix the calling lag? what i mean is: someone calls me, on their end it rings 3-4 times before my phone actually starts ringing. (with the GV integration it was worse, it would ring 5-6 times, sometimes go to voicemail and my phone would either just start ringing or just a voicemail notification would pop up)
If nothing can fix this, can I at least change the number of rings? Im think 10 would work.
Thanks!
Every phone I've ever had, and I've had a lot of them, at some point would ring zero to one time on my end while the caller has heard several rings. The same thing can be said about the echo. I assume there are a number of reasons why those things occur including but not limited to roaming, cell handoff, signal strength & fluctuation and network problems. If you are experiencing the things you mentioned on a frequent basis, you may want to notify Sprint.

oh i forgot to mention that the echo problem never existed on the HTC Hero I had.
there was a call lag/bug (on the hero), but that was a 2.1 issue that was solved with a software update. By the time the update came out, I was already on cyanogenmod, so those issues didnt effect me.
Im thinking of trying out some gingerbread roms that have the updated Sense rom for the Evo. I havent seen one that i like yet (tbh, i havent really looked yet).
Could be this modified Sense rom? i dunno. Maybe I can find where I got it. It was included in a root method i used back in December.
I used to have echo on my evo until I upgraded to the newest radio found here...

Of course flashing a radio is dangerous so follow instructions thoroughly
tim
is it the kind of echo im referring too? were you only hearing yourself until you retried the call?
I get the echo, on my us cellular phone for work, a razor. It must just be a cellular thing.........
this echo has never happened on any other phone before. this leads me to believe that its software based on my phone. hardware would almost always repeat the problem. one of these days im going to flash another rom and see if that fixes it.
Hey guys,
Something really random just happened to me today. I was sleeping with my VZN Galaxy Nexus on my night stand when all of the sudden I heard a noise coming from my phone. I woke up and looked at it and noticed it was making a call to some number that starts with a "+2" and it was about 23 seconds into the call. I heard it say something that sounded like "Please wait while we prepare your photograph".
Needless to say, I freaked out and ended the call... but when I went to the call log that call was not there!
Has anyone had this happen to them or know what could be causing this?
Curious that you mention this; I was about to make a thread on the topic. Mine made a call around 6:30 AM CST. The number is *22899 and it's a number that you dial to update your PRL ("Please wait while your phone is being programmed"); it's the same as dialing *228 and hitting option 2. That said, I've never experienced a phone making the update by itself before.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Very weird indeed. That's around the same time my phone made the call... I guess I could see how I heard "prepare your photograph" instead of "being programmed" since I didn't have the phone up to my ear.
Anyone else?
Just a quick note, I noticed on Engadget that Verizon is having some data outages across the US. Maybe this has something to do with it?
http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/21/psa-verizon-users-reporting-data-outages-across-the-us/
Same here but mine happened at like 4 am or something. I had no idea wtf was going on...
Might be. I was going to add that I wasn't able to connect to the network at all this morning (though I've had an intermittent 3G signal just recently). I didn't even know they could remotely initiate a call like that; sort of creepy.
This just happened to me. Call is not in my recent calls list, it just automatically conencted. FYI I'm in the DC area so maybe its just something Verizons doing in different areas.
Just happened to me as well @ 2:30am PST. Happened twice actually. I ended the first call and the second one completed activation and hung up on its own. Odd.
Just happened to me TWICE again last night at 3AM... I had Data turned off completely too.
So I ended the call and 1 minute later it did it again.
I ended the second call and put it in Airplane mode for only a few seconds, then it never dialed any more last night
(I turn off Data when I go to sleep at night)
