Anyone attempted to do it? There's no option to alter them in settings so I found where they are they are located in system/media/ui I tried deleting it through astro but I didn't have sufficient permissions -_- any suggestions? Id love to have my own little lock sound instead of that barely heard sound. And yes I got the idea from the ipod touch ability to do that when its jailbroken. If its possible on that I know it is on android

Yes, that option should be possible on a rooted device. I think once your rooted (which you are) that you find the file that contains the sounds and simply add your sound to the list. I think the only way to do so might be through usb. Plug in the phone via usb and drag the sound file onto your phone and it should work. I've never done this before, but I've read about it with past Android devices. Hopefully it will work for you. If it does or does not work please be kind to let me and others know.

I haven't seen any way where you can choose, but the unlock sound is found in /system/media/audio/ui/
idk if mp3's work, but I'm assuming replacing the Lock/Unlock ogg's with another one of the same name would work. It's easy to convert to ogg anyway.
I've always wanted to do this with some old school 8 bit sounds or even metal gear codecs but never got around the time to trying.

How do you convert it to ogg? And of course ill post if it works or not no problem. Ill try it through adb I guess since astro doesn't let me do it. Anyone else know a method besides adb and terminal that will let me get to root folders? I know droid explorer and all that but I'm 17 which means no credit card lol

An easy way is using a website like media.io
As far as I know, no root explorer apps work on our phone. I could be wrong.
Easiest way is going to clockwork recovery, mounting system and pushing.
I can confirm it works. I just have to lower the volume of my files because they're WAY too loud lol.

Ok sweet! Can you tell me exactly what you did?
Wait lemme take a guess
Adb pushed the lock sounds to the directory? Or pulled them first then pushed them?
Sent from My Rooted Htc Espresso
I just pushed, it overwrote the original. Don't need to backup if you still have the zip for the rom.
Just make sure when you're in clockwork recovery System is mounted so you can get in there through adb.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFAO6T6GNvk
Here's a vid to see it in action. Sound is still a bit too loud for me, going to edit the volume again to lower it. I want to sound cool but not obnoxious lol.
EDIT: Keep in mind your Unlock sound flickers on/off when you lock your screen with the desktop clock on.

Alright cool i guessed that. You think maybe we could tell Cyan what we found and he could make it an option in cm6? And you think it would work with a regular MP3? ill test if you like but man thats nice and loud. At the website what level of volume you put it? high, medium, low or what? and dude where do you get your sounds from? google is not working with me right now lol i could just use ringdroid and make an Mp3 then convert but ehh idk.

Couldn't hurt to ask Cyan. But if he's busy working on CM6 I don't wanna bother lol.
I put the highest bitrate on the converter website. Shouldn't matter anyway, the file is still going to be like 20 kbs unless you use a long ass sound. (Which I don't recommend lol)
Personally I use Acoustica MP3 audio mixer to edit my ringtones. I lowered the volume in there, then converted on the website.
As for where I get my sounds, I google lol. "Videogame title here" + sound effects or sounds.

Hello,
I have a full rooted EVO with Stock ROM. Is there a way to remove the sound during boot? I have seen some of the post on modifying boot animations but they are a bit too much. I would like something simply.
EDIT:
(Just stumbled on this one).
- Removing the Sprint apps(bloatware) using adb also got rid of the boot animation sound. Specifically, I think it may have been Sprint Promotion.apk.
- Someone else may need to try this in order to confirm.
Boot Animation Lite from the market. Its free.
Does require root access tho, i know you said you have it, but for others that dont have root, and see this.
While it doesnt just take the sound out of the Sprint startup, changing it to the Nexus start screen is cooler to show off anyway.
Requires no knowledge of how to change stuff, just screen size, which EVO is 480x800.

Thanks, looks like a cool app. I only want the Sprint sound out though. Anyone has a better idea?
You can delete the sound using adb. The file is /system/customize/resource/SPC_animation_final.mp3
I hope that answers your question.

Hey guys I'm just now getting my feet wet with rooting and adb and what not.. Is there a way to replace the lock and unlock sounds through adb so I can replace it with my own sounds?
Swyped from my 2.2 CM6F EVO
The files are
/system/media/audio/ui/Lock.ogg
/system/media/audio/ui/Unlock.ogg
Replace these with adb or root explorer, whichever is easier for you.

Would I have to adb pull those files first? Then adb push them back with the one of my choice? And I wonder if the new sounds have to be a .ogg file? hmmm
You wouldn't have to pull them but a good backup is always nice or you can always extract the original sound from the Rom your using.
Let me know if they have to be .ogg format. I would assume they do but .wav might work. Thanks guys!!!!!

See I don't know.. Its not like there is an option to scroll through different Lock/Unlock sounds, its either on, or off.. So I if I just pushed a new sound without pulling the old one, how would it now which one to use?? At least thats my thought process haha... I guess I'll try it out, see what happens.. I would like to make the Lock and Unlock sounds the recording I made of my slide opening and closing from my Springfield XD40 subcompact!!

Keep it simple. Use ogg format and just push the new files to the same location as the old ones. Keep the file names the same too (case sensitive)

im using a glass crack keypress image for my themed swype & i have a glass crack .ogg sound file i want to use but it wont work
what i changed was the KeyPressAries.ogg found in swype.apk under assets, i found the sound file i wanted to use & changed it to .ogg renamed it to KeyPressAries, & replaced it using 7zip & all it did was lose the keypress sound...
I don't really know anything about anything lol but I have heard of things like this being sensetive to the size of the file especially something like the keyboard which may remain loaded and need to be cached. Try to get the size of the new file the same or smaller than the one you are replacing.
Again this is random speculation but it makes sense to me...

Yeah, I did a little googling for you. Try convert to mono if its not already. Beyond that I use audacity to do audio editing. I work on IVR systems and sometimes they are sensetive to bit rates and such so if you want to send me the file I can give it a shot, but if you are comfortable with audacity (free opensource sound editor) try the instructions on this forum for reducing ogg file size:

Ok, So the aries file was actually only 0.14 seconds long while the glass break was 0.94. Quite a bit longer...
aries was about 5k (4982 bytes) so I did a few things to try to hit those targets for length and file size.
glass_break_compressed.ogg is your original file, same length, with more compression. That got it down to 10k
glass_break_trimmed.ogg I actually cut content out of the file to shorten it, but it was mostly dead space and I think it still reflects the original pretty well. that got it to 8k
glass_break_trimmed_compressed.ogg is the trimmed version with extra compression, I can't tell the difference between the two on my laptop speakers, that got it to 6k.
If you can get any of the the above versions to work I would try them in that order so you get the best quality. Granted none of them are equal to or smaller than the one you are replacing in size or length, but they are down to around .24 seconds so its close on length. I couldn't get it any shorter and still have it sound nearly identical to the original.
That said... If none of those work, then this one is a little more than just trimmed (lets say chopped lol), and it includes the extra compression. Its not quite as robust as the original sound or my trimmed versions, but I think it sounds pretty good even though I had to chop out some of the meat of the audio and I got the file size down to just below the aries version.
it is called:
glass_break_chopped_compressed_5k.ogg
Thats as far as I could go and still get something resembling breaking glass. I sure hope one of them works for you! Looking forward to hearing how it goes.

i think it has sumthin to do with bitrate & i kno there cant be any compression. it might hafta be either mono or stereo. i kno its super specific, i got a few sound files that are downloadable on this post
Old rumor was that the file sizes had to match exactly to the kb. I don't know where I saw it and it was hard to do without getting sloppy.
Were you ever able to put the stock file back in and get it to work? I think that unless that works we won't be able to get any custom sounds in there.

Hey I wonder if it would be possible to have an animated lock screen of say, lifestream moving around?
Being that the limit breaks were never that long, I'd say the full animation from the game would be perfect.
And this is for Samsung Epic. Not CM7 (saw your signature, just making sure you're aware )

I'll see what I can do! Going to sleep will get back with you tomorrow evening
Omnislash Bootanimation FF7 (game)
Ok, so it's not quite evening yet but I managed to get one out... Because the videos in the game are usually displayed in wide screen format, it will be a little smaller than you might like in order to portray it in portrait mode (phone straight up and down). I've set the default frames per second to 30 but you can change that if you like. I'm not sure how long your boot animation lasts as there are countless variables that decide that. currently, at 30 fps, it should be about 40 seconds. I trimmed this up to get it that small and can trim it more if needed.
In the other file I'm including the sound file that syncs with the animation. It is in mp3 format and could possibly be off sync with your rom and/or settings due to either a slower or faster boot up. Thus, you may need to play with the fps to get it just right. Don't forget that THIS file needs to be extracted.
Now, as far as the animation is concerned, you will need to rename the zip file to whatever your current boot animation file is named. It varies from rom to rom, but it could be botanimation.Zip or vzw_bootanimation.zip, etc. It's going to either be located in the system/media folder, or system/customize/resource.
If you want the audio to work (and this is usually a shot in the dark getting it right) place the extracted mp3 file in the same folder you're dropping the bootanimation file in. You may need to rename it to like, android_audio or something. If most of your system's sound files are not in mp3 format, you may have to convert it to whatever audio format they are in using some sort of sound editor (good luck with that).
Let me know if you have any requests to change this animation and let me know how it works for you!
Oh one more thing.. If you don't want to lose your current botanimation forever, simply rename it to some thing else so my file won't over write it.. Don't forget to change permissions and ownership on the files after you drop them in the folder.

cant convert the .mp3 into .wav
I will do it for you tomorrow or you can do it by using the free computer program I use: Wavepad sound editor. Once installed, you can right click the mp3, click edit, and once the app opens, "save as" and you can select wav. I will upload it tomorrow if you haven't already done it. How is the bootanimation? I had to up my frames to 80 since my phone boots too fast

Hello all!
I claim no fame to this bootup animation. It's a CTOS Bootup from the game WatchDogs. I got the main animation zip from This XDA page in the G3 Forums. All I did was convert it to .qmg format so I can use it on my Note 4. it works perfectly on my phone using DynamicKat ROM.
Extract the zip and place the two files into /system/media and change permissions to rw-r-r- .
EDIT:For those implementing the sounds, it goes into /system/media/audio/ui
As always I recommend changing the original files to *.qmg.bak (* is the like files you are copying over) in case the world explodes, your GF dumps you, or the phone simply doesn't like being touched.
P.S. I shouldn't have to remind you, but just in case... Warranty is voided, do at your own risk, etc etc.

If you go to the link I provided in the OP, can scroll down the list of his available stuff till you hit the CTOS one. That's what I have here, just in .QMG format instead of a bootanimation.zip.
Looks pretty cool. I like the others posted on the op too. Is it difficult converting them? Thanks for this.

It's not that difficult, but depending on the size of the bootupanimation.zip and number of images, it can take a while to convert. I followed this guide and did it in a few minutes. Warning though, if you are doing this yourself the limit to this program is 255 images. The samsung converter seems to auto adjust the bootup size to the images used. Be sure to follow the guide to a 'T' and you'll be fine.
If you want me to I can do a few conversions or help you with some steps. Just let me know.
Thanks for the link. I'll check it out and I'll ask if I got any questions
Thanks works great on my side
It would be much cooler if theres sound on it

That's a good idea, I've never been much for sounds with my bootup. I can look into how to make that happen though.

Wouldn't you know it, MAJOR blonde moment. That site I linked includes the bootup sounds. Updated OP with the zip to extract it and copy it over.
Lol ? thank u btw
Well, I'm having issues with the sound on bootup. I changed permissions and all, made sure the sound work while in the phone, and nothing during bootup. Could be the ROM I'm on. Using DynamicKat. I'm mostly deaf though so it might simply be a quiet sound. Lemme know what's up.

The original bootanimation.zip had 265 images, I had to delete a few in order to get the program to render the animation. It's limit is 255. That's why the sound is a little off for you. In the ROM I'm using, there was no PowerOn.ogg. had to look at another ROM to see where the bootup sound was located. It's where it should be but I hear no sounds. No big deal for me, glad it works for you though.
I c, my sound is on system-media-sound-ui hopefully that could help
Works great man. Liked this game and the boot animation is really cool
Screen shots????
