[q] !!! Please help !!! - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am a noob when it come to the EVO and I was messing around in the boot menu and accidentally selected recovery...now my phone is on and the screen shows a red triangle with an exclamation point in it on top of a picture of my phone.
What is my phone doing? going back to factory settings? Should I pull the battery out? PLEASE HELP!

Pull the battery - and power the phone back up, it will be fine.
Gregg

Thanks! What was the phone doing in recovery mode? I was actually in the middle of this when I hit recovery mode:
1. Charge the phone to full battery; let it keep charging until the battery says it is fully charged. Do not just wait until the light is green, it isn't always fully charged, causing a lot of inaccuracies. (You can check by going to: Settings -> About Phone -> Status -> Battery Level = Full.)
2. Boot to recovery and wipe battery stats.
(To have the most accurate of battery stats, reboot the phone immediately after wiping the battery stats and wait for your ROM to boot completely to the desktop. Once your entire boot is done and you have full access to the phone, go ahead and pull the charger and continue.)
3. Do not charge the phone until after draining the battery completely, resulting in it automatically shutting off. Take out the battery, and keep trying to turn on your phone until it will not turn back on at all.
4. Recharge the phone completely and then use as you normally would.
Do you know how i would wipe the battery stats then? Do I have to be rooted?
Again thanks for the help!

Never tried it before being rooted, but I think you do.
Using Amon_RAs recovery, when you boot into the bootloader, go into recovery, scroll down to "wipe" and then you'll be able to scroll down to "wipe battery stats."

[Q] Phone won't turn on! Vibrates and Green LED only

morning guys/gals,
last night i put my phone to charge, woke up this morning and turned on the screen and it said "no sim card detected, reboot device". Now when I rebooted the device all I get is 5 vibrates and the green led light stays on. Screen stays blank!!. I tried battery pull several times, tried vol-down + power but all I get is the vibration with the screen off and the led on.
When I hook my phone to the laptop I can't access it via fastboot/adb, it shows up as "Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM" with a yellow exclamation mark in the device manager. I tried forcing different drivers on it (e.g. adb composite, bootloader) but none let me access the device via cmd.
Now I got clockwork, running latest android revolution 2.0.8, device is radio-soff and eng-soff.
What am I to do now? Is there possibly a hardware fault? If I cant get to access to the device to restore it to stock, I'm going to struggle to get the device replaced, isnt it?
any help is very much appreciated!!!
What ROM were you running on it Prior to this happening?
was there any apps running in the background?
the Vol - + Power should get you into bootloader, if you cant get into bootloader I would be tempted to say fooked, and take it back to the shop as they wont be able to boot it either,, but thats the defeatist attitude...

ok very strange, I was playing i around with the phone, now if I pull the battery and connect it to the usb cable the light went red instead of green and it automatically booted in clockworkmod (thanks to the "bug"). vol down + power didnt get me there so once I was in clockwork I thought let me wipe battery stats (eventho I wiped them when rom was freshly installed). I thought the device is unplugged but the green light stays on (after full charge), maybe battery issue. Now after wiping battery stats I'm able to boot the device again.
Thats weird but hey atleast my device is back on track. Either faulty battery or some software bug, either way if anyone experiences a similar issues (phone wont boot, just vibrates 5 times and green led), just pull battery, connect phone to usb cable on your laptop or wallcharge and clockwork should boot up, wipe battery stats and u should be fine
You gotta love that ClockWorkMod recovery image

4.) after orange light recovery should boot up.
5.) wipe battery stat.
6.) enjoy your phone again.

Thanks for your reply! this worked for me, allmost.
I did however had to press the Power button ONCE to start the phone.
- Plugged in charger, pulled in battery, (orange light was turned), then after 25 sec I pressed the Power button - and Voila! My Phone started as normal.
I diden't need to do any "Wipe battery status", but after reading about it I did it anyway. It was'nt necessery though in my case.
THanks a lot you guys for your replys! I thought for sure my phone was dead.
try sptool to format your phone except the boot loader then try to flash the phone, if its not working then change the mother board !!!!!

[Q] Battery goes from 15% to 1% in less than 10 seconds

Hey guys, so i was listening to some music, and i got the 15% warning. About 10 seconds after that, i get the less the 1% warning and the phone starts shutting down. What do you guys think the problem might be?
Which rom do you have one your device ?
Try to calibrate your battery:
Instructions
1. Turn your phone on and charge it for 8 hours or more
2. Unplug the charger
3. Turn your phone off and charge it for one hour
4. Unplug the charger
5. Turn on the phone and wait 2 minutes
6. Turn your phone off and charge it for one hour
7. Unplug, turn it on and use as normal. Your battery life should now be a lot better
You only need to do this once. If you keep experiencing issues with your battery you should contact HTC or your network provider for support.

Is your battery health still "good"? Type *#*#4636#*#* in dial> "battery information">"battery health"
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I have stock froyo and my battery says its "good". thanks matdroid, im gonna try to calibrate it. ill post back with results.
If calibration fails try to wipe battery stats in recovery. This issue has been reported before so don't worry.
ok so the calibration didnt work, and i cant find the option to clear battery stats in recovery. is it possible on stock recovery?
Just uninstall facebook-app and tell us, if problem is solved.

hey, so i tried to uninstall the Facebook app, but since it came with the stock ROM it only allowed me to uninstall the updates and not the entire app, didnt work in the end.
Was wondering if you guys can help me get this thing rooted so i can get clockworkmod and wipe the battery stats.
Whenever i try to root, it just stops at "waiting for bootlodader, make sure you have driver installed". Any help would be much appreciated.
It happened to me once. I just rebooted the phone and it never happened again.
How to root
@androiderer:
I do not consume any accountability for any damage
First make sure, what hardwarerevision your desire have. To find out, start your phone in bootloader (press vol-button + power button for a while) and read the first line.
If you have a pvt4 desire, you have to download amonra:
http://www.android-hilfe.de/attachm...-0-0-14-11-2010-recovery-ra-desire-v2.0.1.zip (just save, do not extract)
Then do the following:
1.) Make sure, HTC sync is installed
2.) If you flash with windows, install necessary hboot drivers:
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/windows_hboot_driver_install
3.) When finished, disconnet the phone from usb
4.)Settings for the desire:
Menu>Settings>Appliations>check "unknown sources" and under development check "usb-debug mode"
Menu>Settings>Applications>check "unknown sources" and uncheck "ask for it"(or something like this)
5.) Reboot phone
6.) Uninstall only htc sync, NOT THE DRIVERS and reboot computer
7.) Download unrevoked: http://downloads.unrevoked.com/recovery/3.32/Reflash.dmg
Then install and start it
8.) If you have a pvt4 desire, press "File>Custom Recovery" and choose the downloaded amonra-recovery
9.) Connect phone with USB
10.) WAIT....WAIT....WAIT....WAIT until unrevoked says "Done"
11.) Congrutaltions, your phone is rooted
Important Notice: Do not install an OTA-Upate, this will remove root

Same problem, but at 10%, wiping stats didn't help, running Leedroid 3.0.5, S-Off. battery health is good in that 4636 thing.

[Q] Defy hangs on boot

Hi,
after installing cm7.1.0-RC1.5 and rebooting, I see Google (logo) on my display but nothing happens (waited for more than 20 minutes). The power switch does not work and I am also not able to access the boot menu by pressing the volume button. If I remove the battery and insert it again, I immediately see the Google logo again - as before I am not able to interact with the phone. Please I need help - hope I haven't ruined it.
Thank you
put off your battery, then charge your defy without battery.. after battery logo with question mark come out, put again your battery.. unplug your charger and you should able to access bootloader or motorola recovery... cmiiww
Thanks for helping, but this does not work. After seeing the battery on display and inserting it, it still hangs only showing the Google logo. I am not able to enter the recovery menu.

M9 failing to read battery

Basically, I was running S Rom (U ultra port one) and then my phone literally just turned off for no reason, when I tried to turn it on it kept turning off while booting so naturally I decided to just wipe cache and art cache, and then it stopped reading my battery all together, it is just giving the 0% sign while trying to boot it up even though I remember that it had 66% when I was using it and in recovery, its gotten rid of the battery sign all together in the top right where it used to be. My computer is also not able to detect my phone during recovery so I can't put a ROM on it to see if flashing some other ROM helps
UPDATE: It doesn't show 0% battery icon when booting up but it still turns off randomly during the booting up and still no battery sign in the recovery after a bit of charging
UPDATE 2: it now shows the 0% battery icon when I try to enter recovery or do anything at all like turn it on
UPDATE 3: It seems to be charging and gives me percentage but ROM still randomly turns off at boot and I still can't get into recovery without getting a 0% sign or use USB
UPDATE 4: I'm actually such a dumb **** my USB chord was broken, mods close this thread pls

Mi max 3 continuous restart (in normal and safe mode)

Hello.
while charging my phone, suddenly it restarted. From now and on, the phone restarts always after few seconds it is switched on: I can see the menu for a few seconds and then it restarts. I have tried in the safe mode, same problem as in the normal mode. Some suggestions are to clear the cache but I have no time to access to cache phone, cause it restarts. The only 2 mode that don't restart are : recovery mode, and bootloader. I would like to avoid to loose my data, using "wipe data" ... I have drained the battery till 2% ... and charged it again fully but still it restarts.
what kind of solution can you suggest without loosing data ?
Thanks.
