[Q] Back speaker broken - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sadly, after root and upgrade my desire with Leedroid and new radio its back speaker broke.
My last chance is here. (Or un-root, Orange ROM and Service )
All follow was wafter root and upgrade:
I was listening radio with the headphones (original ones) I unplug and when I tried to listen anything the back speaker don't work. No music, ringtone, initial bootsound (after restart), nothing
I have found hardware failures of speakers and jack connectors but in differents model, not in Desire.
Main points:
- I have set all volumes to max, min, mute... with no results.
- It isn't in headphone mode, I think, because there are no icon indicating it.
- It's possible make and receive calls, front speaker and mic works fine.
- If I plug and unplug headphones the icon goes on and then off. Plugged they works.
Is a hardware failure? Could be caused by Coocked ROM or it is just bad luck?
could a reflash the ROM help somehow?
I could unroot and flash original Orange ROM to try service guaranty, what do you think?
Thank you

WOW Now work, why? how?
Suddenly it starts to work, the back speaker sound is back
I put sound up and down on Settings and using AudioManager and. First with click and finally with full sound it started to work.
Maybe it could be the soft shocks, or maybe not, because I am trying everything (including shocks) and the speaker doesn't fail.
Any ideas?

[Q] Problem with headphone connector

When I connect headphones or a cable between headphone connector and a sound system it seems the phone don't recognize it. If I try to start the FM-radio I got a message telling "Headphone required To listen to FM radio you must plug in headphones to the headphone jack."
If I start webradio or something else that plays music I get the sound from the built in speaker instead of the connected item.
If I restart the phone it works again but onlt for some time(a few hours) and I don't know what or when it fails again.
It feels like a software problem but I'm not sure at all.
Anyone that have a clue what I can do to get rid of this most irritating fault?
(The phone is equipped with rooted Froyo 2.2.2 Swedish version)
I was listening to FM-radio when making a call. Radio was muted and after I hang up the headphone connector stopped working again.
So it seems I'm the first one with this problem. To bad...
The problem persist. Should I return this phone or do anyone have any idea what to do about it?
Every time I get a call the headphone connector got disabled and only a reboot enables it again.
I believe you should return it. Especially if it's on the original firmware. That way you'd know for sure that it cannot be your fault.
If you already flashed something, try a full reset flash again (maybe some other rom) and reset again.
This looks very much like a software problem to me.
Just my 2 cents...

Do anyone think that at factory reset could solve the problem?

[Q] HELP Audio/Headphone totally messed up, hardware or software problem?

I have tried almost everything to fix this problem but i just can't.
When i connect my headphone (beats and normal Samsung one) to the phone and click on play or next/previous button, nothing happens. The phone wont recognize the buttons. 4 days ago everything worked perfectly. It just suddenly happened. I was on AOKP milestone 4.
When it happened the first time, 4 days ago, i thought it might be a problem in the ROM so i wiped everything and rebooted phone. Still the same. I then re flashed the ROM several times and it was still the same. So i just got angry and put phone away. Then after 14 hours or something i plugged headphone back in the phone and opened up poweramp. Then i hit play button on headphone and suddenly it worked. I was happy, but after 1 minute i hit pause button and phone wouldn't recognize it. I kept plugging and unplugging the headphone and after several tries it worked again for a minute or two, then it didn't. This made me think it is a software problem. But when i had headphone plugged in and let music play and unplugging the headphone, the music kept playing, with no sound (Music was playing when headphone was plugged in, but then i unplugged it, but music didn't stop like it usually does when u unplug the headphone). Now the speaker didn't work. After some minutes later it magically worked again.
Now i was wondering if it is a hardware problem. Another thing to mention is that when this happens(no sound after unplugging the headphone) the phone sensor in dialer wont work. When i make a phone call to someone, the phone sensor wont work, meaning, the phone wont go black when i lift it up to my ear. Also no sound from the front speaker. So i have to use headphone to call someone, until the phone speaker works again. Then the dialer sensor will work again.
I have tried about 3 ROMS and they are all the same. I have now flashed stock Google 4.0.4 and it's still the same. Now unrooted.
Please if you don't understand some parts of my problem, ask and i will try to answer in a better way.
Will take a video soon, hopefully it will be easier to see what problem i have.
Video 1: Here I have just rebooted the phone and opened music app to see if the button on headphone works. As you can see it works the first time i plug it in. But after that it doesn't work. You can also see that once i remove the headphone, while music is playing, the phone speaker wont work. !!! Something i forgot to show you... You can see that phone speaker wont work when i unplug the headphone, but when i click up and down volume button on the phone buttons, you can hear them. Its only the music/movie/dialer etc that doesn't work.
Video 2 : Here i am testing the beats headphone, just to show you that it isn't the Samsung headphones fault.
Video 3: Here i am showing you that the phone sensor wont work in dialer.
Video 4: This one is very strange. I have plugged in the headphone, but when i click volume buttons on phone, you can hear it from the back speaker. This shouldn't happen right? I mean when the headphone is plugged in, then all sounds should be coming from the headphone, not the phone speaker.
Bump. Any suggestions?
*For the last 2 days the buttons actually worked for several hours, but as soon as i take them out, they wont work for god knows how long...
Ok if no one knows anything, can someone give me some advice on what to say when I return the phone? I still have warranty but don't know if this will be covered by it. Also i have just flashed stock google 4.0.4 ROM, but is there anything else I should before returning the phone? Phone is bought from Netcom Norway.

HTC One X unable to switch from earbuds to speakers, please help!

Hello,
When I boot my phone without my earbuds plugged in, the speakers of my phone are working fine. But I don't hear sound from my earbuds when they are plugged in.
When I boot my phone with my earbuds plugged in, my eadbuds are working fine. But when i take them out, my speakers aren't working. (both the speaker on the back and the speaker for calls)
I've searched google and this forum for solutions and both didnt work.
(I checked if my volumes were muted. but they were not.)
I'm using this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1786696
Things I've tried:
- Wipe Dalvik cache and cache and update to the latest version.(08-11-12) Problem still exists
- Complete wipe of my data/cache/dalvik cache. flashed boot.img and installed rom again. Problem still exists.
- Different kinds of headsets. ALL of them give the same problem.
- Different kinds of apps for playing audio. All give the same problem. (Even the phone app)
Anyone got any ideas? I'm new to this so please be noob friendly.
Thanks
Forgot to mention: I use Hboot 0.43
Something is probably screwed up in system and I don't see it wiped from your list. Try factory resetting from cwm recovery AND format /system in cwm mounts and storage. Then flash cm10 nightly. Since none of the above will wipe boot partition, you may choose to not flashing boot. Img. However I would from your pc using
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
Fastboot erase cache
Then reboot.

Thanks for your reply, unfortunately this did not work. The same problem still persists. Could it be that my hboot version is causing the problem?

Don't think so. But... Check your PM in 5
Did you try it with a different ROM to see if you have the same problem?
I tried installing another rom. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1784185)
This has not changed anyting. I also found out that when someone calls me (When I have booted with eadbuds plugged in) I can hear the other person speaking through my earbuds. But when I put the call on speaker (Earbuds still plugged in) the sound does go over the speakers. But when I unplug my earbuds and try calling over the ear speaker I hear nothing.
I also forgot to mention that this problem occured randomly. I did not make any changes to my phone, or installed any new software/apps before it happened. From what I can remember I was listening to some music over my earbuds, and when I got called i plugged out my earbuds and tried to answer the call. From that moment the problem exists.
Also, when my earbuds are not plugged in (and i booted with them plugged in) and i plug them in, my music starts playing. When i dont have them plugged in, start playing music and plug them in my music stops playing. And when i'm listening to music over my earbuds and take them out my music won't stop playing like it's supposed to but it keeps on playing (even though i dont hear any sound from my speakers)
Try an ics rom please. Not a jb.
Tried installing an ICS rom. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1601408) This unfortunately didn't fix it.

Try reversing what caused the issue?
Long shot but could work.
So by the sounds of it this would be.
Play music through speaker,
Call yourself.
Plug the headphones in and answer.
Then restart the phone or whatever and let us know?
Hope this works

Too bad didn't work. Also tried playing music through headphones,
call self
Plug out headphones and answer.
No sound :\
Okay it just got even weirder.. I found out that when i plug in my earbuds halfway, the phone opens the google thing where you can speak what you want to search.. When i plug them in normally it does'nt. And now when i dont listen to music over my earbuds and i change the phone volume, I hear the preview beep over both the speaker and my earbuds. I Really dont get what got into my phone
Bump, Still didnt fix it. When i boot with earphones plugged in, and take them out all sounds work, but music and phone calls only give sound over earphones. So this means nothing is physically broken. You guys got any more ideas? Installed Hboot 1.39 and Blade V4.0 rom. Didnt change anything
Bump
So I had something similar with my previous phone, Palm Pre; plugging in headphones caused intermittent speaker/headphone issues that was very inconsistent as well as triggering apps when half-in/out. In my case it was a physical issue, the jack had some pocket lint in it. I removed the fluff from a Q-tip, dipped the naked tip into isopropyl alcohol and cleaned out the jack. Other Pre users also mentioned that one of the contacts on the side-wall of inner part of the jack is "button like" in that it is pressed when the headphone pin enters the jack. When fluff builds up, the pin can force crap behind the contact and prevent it from being pressed properly.
Swabbing out the jack helped once or twice, but ultimately I gave up on using the headphones. Now that I'm jaded about it, I really wish the One X had a cover.
Thanks for the reply, but I dont think it's a physical issue, Since my ringtone still plays when i'm getting called (after booting with earbuds plugged in) and i can still call over the back speaker. Just not the front speaker. The issue is only there with media/music and calls. But how is it a software issue if updating my radio, changing my rom, and updating my hboot wont work
Bump
Bump, Anyone got any ideas? this is really annoying, having to reboot my phone every time i want to listen to some music and every time i want to make a phone call :\

[Q] Bad radio - can't track down the answer

Hi everyone, hope someone can point me in the right direction. Flashed OmniROM on an HTC desire (bravo) and it's working great. Only problem is when making a call, no sound comes out of the earpiece. If I put it on speaker phone it's fine, and apparently when it's not on speakerphone the mic works fine, people can hear me on the other end, but I can't hear a thing. Suspect the radio is the problem here so need advice on which radio to use (especially for internet use too) and how to install it. I have Ext4 bootloader installed too. This is my interim phone after my Samsung Galaxy S2 died completely (will not power up since it died during normal operation), which looks like it would need a JTAG burn to fix, right after I successfully replace the USB board. Anyway, any help appreciated. Thank you.
Can it not be that the earpiece is simply broken?
Does it work for instance over Wi-Fi calling e.g.Skype? Can you get any sound to come out of it?
Was it working before you flashed the ROM? If you backup and flash different ROM or better yet back to stock, does it work?
Just want to do logic tests before concluding it's a radio issue, which I'm not sure it is.
So confirm above before playing about with radios as they carry a but more risk. To flash radios, you need to be S-OFF, and use fastboot commands. Check the md5 sum of the radio.img before flashing because a bad radio flash= proper brick.
There is no recommended radio, though latest one should generally be better. Depends on individual signal quality so different people get different results
Good point. Got around to thinking the same myself. Found a replacement speaker on ebay (local seller) which I ordered (it's cheap). Meanwhile searching the market for a speaker tester.
Desire adr6300 running cooldroid
old thread, but I have a similar but slightly different issue and it doesn't appear to be the radio
Cant hear anyone on call, they can hear me
Works on earphone - can hear caller no probs, they can hear me ok
If i switch to speakerphone during the seemingly silent call, as soon as some noise (voice or otherwise) is picked up from other end, then the speakers start screeching - quickly getting to max volume. Goes silent again if speakerphone option switched off.
Hadn't flashed anything when it started to my knowledge, but had been installing various things. Nothing significant to my recall.
Tried re flashing cooldroid after clearing caches - same
tried installing mildwild - same
reflashed radio (it is the latest and been on ages) - same
Cleared everything except sd data but including ext partition and reflashed coildroid - same.
Oh - audio tracks play fine :/
Help.
Slight update on this.
After trying different roms and reflashing the later radio:
Flashed an older radio on it that i had on it before - same.
Radio_32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.23
Radio_32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.08
Seems like mic (others hear me) ok when used normal, but I cant hear them
but some sort of feedback squeal when i put it on speaker voice does come through quietly along with the screeching (no its not the missus), the screeching only starts as soon as some noise is picked up through sending phone
When earphones connected (hence mic and speaker on phone disconnected) - all fine.
So possibly some sort of short in the ear speaker unless someone who knows the hardware better than me can suggest something else
(Do these have noise cancelling mic which is disabled when earphones are connected? - must look that up when I have some time again)
Update
it does seem to be simply a failed ear speaker
Update
Got around to replacing the ear speaker (less than £2 delivered from ebay)
SORTED
dead easy job - 10 minutes to replace and all ok now.
No sound through ear speaker now sorted
This is for ear phone - but shows how easy it is
Speaker is just under the top board - no cable just prongs and stickied in place.

No sound, only BT audio works

Hi all,
I have a quite common problem as I see in Samsung forums (example). A few weeks ago I connected my A50 to a BT speaker, then as soon as I disconnected it, the sound stopped working (system sound, media sound, etc.) and the audio & video playback is on FastForward like 5x mode. So if I play a video, an audio message, etc, I see the seconds of playback go crazy, sometimes at 2X rate, sometimes at 5X, sometimes slowing down...
As soon as I connect a BT audio device, the playback is normal again and I can hear everything. Sometimes if I reboot the phone, the sound from speaker comes back for a few minutes, but then it disappears again. Lately even reboot does not help.
I updated to latest version (A11, Jan 2022 Patch) and did a factory reset via recovery. The problem is still there.
Rebooting in Safe Mode make the sound works! But not immediately, I have to reboot in safe mode, let the phone settle down a few minutes and then I hear sounds. I check the sound with secret code *#0#*. Then when I go back to normal mode, even without any google and samsung account connected, without all personal apps, without SIM, the sound does not work.
Will a custom ROM solve this issue definitely? Or do you know how to solve it while keeping the stock ROM?
I also tried to debloat the phone disabling 125 apps via Universal Android Debloater but it did not help.
Im facing the same problem , did u find any fix?
This occurred on default os - i did factory reset and it wasnt fixed - installed a custom os and stil nothing.
Have you tried cleaning out the headphone jack? Sometimes if there's gunk in there it'll cause an intermittent or long term short that makes it think there's headphones plugged in.
