Nevermind. I'll just nandroid and find out for myself....again.

I'm presently running The New Guy v5, and liking it pretty well. I'm curious if someone has tried both The New Guy AND rEVOlution. If so, could you hit the high points of why one might be better than the other in your opinion. I'm just looking for some subjective feedback. These seem to be the predominant ROMs based 100% on the EVO framework. It would be really cool if you've tried the latest and greatest rEVOlution ROM (v9). Trying to decide if it's worth the trouble to flash it and try it out when I am already pretty happy with TNG v5.
Thanks in advance for your input.

I haven't tried the New Guy. But what do you mean, worth the trouble? Do a nandroid, flash Redemptive, and try it out for an hour or so. You don't like it, restore the New Guy.

Good point. I'm sure that's what I'll end up doing. I've just done that so much lately with other ROMs that I'm actually getting a little tired of it.

First of all, next time don't post a question in the dev section, that what q and a is for!
A little behind huh 2.1 lol. Just flash any Rom most are updated with the latest goodies. Don't bother flashing stock roms, flash a custom.
Youtube a few videos on flashing evo and read some text instructions. Then put two and two together.
Edit: If you what a pure google rom flash a aosp rom. If you are a Htc sense fan then look for custom stock.

please, please, please just answer me this. do you know where i can get a stock custom? i recently flashed cyanogen 6.1.2 and i love it, ****ing amazing. but i like htc sense, because i use the apps alot, and somethings i like more. and i miss my 4G. i dont think a stock custom will have 4G but idc, i just want one like that. a good idea would be something like cyanogen mod but have it sense.
Im running fresh 3.5, netarchy 4.3 no havs no undervolt, seidio 3500 and its great. Been off the charger for 12 hours and at 74% life...very very happy! Running 1190 is my sweet spot. 38ish mflops 1500 quadrant and been completely stableat the speed

I had to throw a thanks on that post. It may not have been a useful post in the general definition for the forums, but it sure was useful in getting me to chuckle out loud
And in the hopes of being somewhat useful to the OP, why not start with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=830153&highlight=sprint+lovers which is close to stock, get your feet wet flashing, then try the more "exotic" stuff.

Check out virusroms or mynns. Good sense or senseless roms that are constantly updated by devs that seem to never leave their pc's.
Threads are everywhere. Happy flashunting!

You're welcome...and ehh...technically yes and no..
Yes-If you needed to go to stock, you'd have to download an RUU, to run the exe to revert to stock
No-you really "technically" don't have to use a computer to get roms, because you can use rom manager premium [like 4/5$] and you can download from there. I personally find it easy using the computer though. The same for kernels, download the kernel, radio, ect, then put it on your sd, once that is done, boot into recovery and flash each, separately.

No problem. And it should be the same method, how you flashed roms, kernels, apks, ect. Just now you just need to make sure when you flash like a splash image, ect, to make sure its a PC36IMG zip [for the evo].

There are a plethora of ROMs available. It depends on your taste, if you prefer AOSP or if you want a Sense based ROM. Myn's, MikFroyo's, and Calkulin's are the 3 sense ROMS I use most frequently, and they are all fast and stable, just themed different. AOSP based ROMS you have CM, Evervolv, Liquid, MIUI...there really are a bunch, and everyone I've tried has been stable. You'll just have to go on a flashing binge for a week or two and see what suits you best! Kernels, there are tons of kernels as well. Lots of them. Lots and lots.

i went from a captivate to evo as well. agree with k2buckley on roms. regarding kernels, i would first start looking at roms then after deciding on one, go from there. you'll probably wanna read up on the thread to see if the developer recommends a specific kernel and which ones are most compatible with their rom. i personally recommend any of the netarchy ones, but it's up to you and you'll have to choose which build best fits your needs.

anytime. im a long time reader, first time poster. thats what separates xda from all the other forums; a genuine community willing to help each other out w/o bashing and a minimal amount of the oh so common "use the search button" response, when that person could have easily just provided a link to the OP's question. considering the vast amount of search results, its hard to find a definitive answer w/o reading every damn thread related to the topic.
even tho im rather new to the rom scene, that is the sole reason i feel the least i can do is try to share the small amount of info or advice i have acquired from reading the forums and personal experience and give back to the community.

helo with rooting evo

Hello guys. I was wondering if someone.could please help me with rooting my wife's evo. I'm not familiar with the evo. I've been researching it the.past couple days. My question is in the wiki I see the universal auto root but that uses unrevoked. I have just been reading that unrevoked causes problems so I was wondering if there.is a better way than using the unrevoked. My wife's evo is hardware 4 hboot 2.10 radio-2.15.00.11.19 and on software.version 3.70. So does using unrevoked cause.problems? Thanks for.all your help.
Nope unrevoked is the best way I love it, press a button boom follow simple instructions and your rooted!
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
no issue with unrevoked for me have used on 2 evos
if you want to get adventurous, try the link in my sig.
Thank you guys alot. I haven't been keeping up on the evo like I wanted to with the.epic finally getting 2.2 about time. Damn you guys had it for a while and are getting honeycomb to boot up. Amazing work. So if I use unrevoked forever and an update comes out how does that work? I know you get to keep root but what steps do you take? Thanks alot guys for the help.
Dkdude36 that rooting way.looks fun. Its alot.more involved.
haha ya that rooting method is 'fun' its not as hard as it seems though. to update, just flash a rom with the new software. if you dont know how to do this, then you probably should have used the manual root to learn, but i will tell you anyways.
Oh ok I got ya. Think you so much.bro. I appreciate the.help and support. One.more question. I know.its.personal preference but what is your favorite rom/kernel?

my favorite is the newest cm7 nightly (whichever is newest at any given time ) plus savagezen's newest nosbc. savagezen needs like a day of conditioning so you might get bad results the first day. just stay on it and you will be impressed. i get 30+ hrs battery and high 1550's quadrant scores.
Awesome. You guys have alot of options to choose from. I guess I'll look at what you showed me and show the wife and let her find one. Her problem is she loves htc sense. So I might be limited on what I can pick. I really just want to get that bloatware off and overclock it for her to speed it up. So if I use the universal script it flashes Amon ra recovery right? I've never used that before. I have always used clockwork Mod before.

I've always used unrevoked and then when its done I go into recovery and flash amon RA. Its worked multiple times for me. There are a bunch of different sense Roms out there. Warm and mikfroyo are most popular though. Plus a ton of themes and overclocked kernals to go with them. I myself use cm7 but its all personal choice.
If I use the universal root doesn't that flash amon ra recovery for me? Or do I have to do that after.I complete the root?

[Q]Help from people who know things ;) ROM question

A friend of mine has an EVO, I do not nor have I ever used an evo before. He wanted a custom ROM installed and asked me for help. I would greatly appreciate any help offered by the community.
1. What ROM is closest to stock(If gingerbread is out for it then a gingerbread build would be nice), just tweaked/debloated/deodexed/zip aligned etc.
2. How well is CM7 running on the EVO? I have a captivate and CM7 right now is pretty unstable this is going to be his main ROM and he isnt too technical.
3. What rom has a good/easy update flow. Maybe something with rom manager where he can just click update and all is well in the world.
Thank you SO much in advance.

There are plenty of stock roms and there is a couple gingerbread floating around somewhere i believe as well so your winning on that.
Cm7 i believe is very stable rom and many people enjoy it. Not me but people really enjoy cyanogens work.

Flashing a Custom (even stock) Rom and then not wanting to update to the latest and greatest...ya....ok....NOT. Your friend will get a taste of what this is like and BOOM...hooked. The Rom I linked has a great OP in support. Enjoy the fun that you already know is gonna take hold of the phone your about to set free!
EDIT: Thought I'm sure this goes without saying, but will do anyway. Remind them......DO NOT...accept OTA updates even if they can...just sayin..lmao

Update my rom

I am running Andi Bones Sense rom, 2.3.4, I was going to upgrade to another rom like UKB, but I see that many are having some kind of problem, and I don't have time for BS problems.
I don't want to be updating every week, or month, so maybe someone can point me to something that works, and has been working for more than a couple of months without issues.
Is there a newer bootloader I should have also, I look through here then I end up not doing anything , because what I have works, what does not work is my browser speed sucks many times, but I think this is a Verizon problem.
Don't refer me to read 400 pages of BS
What a great attitude.
Stick with Andybones stock if you want something that works. Either that or try Justin's SenseM ROM.
Hope this wasn't too much BS for you.

All depends on what you consider BS problems. I'm sure your infinitely busy schedule doesn't allow you to elaborate much, but what is essential to me may not be essential to you. UKB worked great for me for a Sense Rom, but I simply prefer the AOSP UI. I've had issues with the camcorder on most AOSP Roms, but I never use it, so it isn't an issue to me.
I have a small piece of advice for you though. You may see development threads as "400 pages of BS", when in fact there is a ton of valuable info contained within. It's a small wonder that you have enough time to post on here and tell us to help you, as well as time to flash Roms to your phone, but can't be bothered to read a thread to see what works and what doesn't work. Do yourself a favor and stay with Andybones Stock. If you start blindly flashing other Roms, you'll inevitably catch snags here and there and I'm sure people are going to not want to help someone who flatly refused to read any info on what they flashed.
I was going to suggest he flash the Chinese leak that specifically says "do not flash of a Verizon user", but I figured that would be too cruel.

Wow, I can't keep from flashing something new every week.......let alone every month.....there's just so many choices.....flashing ROM's is like being addicted to crack......and really, how long does it take to make a back up, flash something, test the features you want and then wipe and restore your back up if you don't like it..........it's not like you're installing OSX on a PC or something, now thats a chore that I've done on numerous occasions....lol

What isn't stable for you is probably considered stable by a lot of other people.

for those that need really stable (though even the stock rom could be argued against as being stable by some) working roms, they *need* to remain on the stock rom...its as simple as that (or at least stock based roms)
source built roms and rom ports are almost guaranteed to have some issues at some point, and if you cannot deal with that.....
just use stock rooted, and enjoy
400 pages of threads to read one person the camera does not work, the other has not data, another has a virus, someone else has rabies, I would spend days reading that thread if not weeks most likely, and in the end decide, no way.
This is my primary phone, and flashing roms can lead to hours of work.
I am definitely going to stay with what I have now, I don't have the time to play around with roms, there are more important things to do in life.
I will keep reading and maybe try something I like, but I mainly did not want bloat ware, and I don't like control from a carrier on a device I bought and paid for.

These guys do this for fun, and for free. They build something they like, then freely share it with us. To call their work bs us an insult. If you don't want bloat and just want stable functionality, buy an Iphone. You ask someone to tell you what to use. The only way we know is by reading. You ask us to do the work for you. Respect what these guys do. You don't contribute. At least show some appreciation.
