Hello all
I have recently updated my phone with a new theme and now my messaging app does not work. The app loads, however when sending the message there is a forced close and the message does not send. The theme installed also has the HTC messaging app with a few tweaks. I think that the installed app and the new themed messaging app are conflicting, resulting to a forced close, but do not know for certain, can someone please help
The themed app will be installed over the old app, so theres only the themed one. Which theme did you use?
Thanks for your reply bud,
I used the eskodroid theme, which was in the themes section. I asked the dev, but he was not certain what the problem was but advised that one of his friends also had the same problem when they installed the theme

Samsung Messaging has a crappy theme but it's superior to the stock Messaging app.

Superior in what way?
Thanks a lot!
The standard samsung app is better than stock but graphically deviates too much from holo.
I immediately downloaded the application that you have shown me, but unfortunately doesn't work ... After having opened app it crashes.
In particular, he shows me the list of all messages (distinguishing read from unread) but when I try to go into a conversation stops everything.
I use GoLauncherEx on Samsung official 4.0.3 rom. When the application crashes, even golauncher crashes! For a few seconds the screen is all black (it show me only tray bar)!
I know that GoLauncherEx isn't optimized for ics but is the only launcher that lets me create folders in the program list (I have much application and I need it!).
Actually ICS isn't very stable on my device and I'm almost regretting gingerbread!
I can do anything about it?
Thanks again for your support,
I hope one day I'd help forum people.

That is very strange. Which firmware did you install? I installed XEO (polish version) and didn't get a single crash or problem what so ever. I had a few problems in rooting it, though (needed to wipe it first and re-flash the orginial ICS firmware before rooting to get the root rights recognized). But once that got fixed, everything was and still is perfect.
Or maybe it is because of the go launcher ex? I was using TW the entire afternoon (13.03) without crashes. At night I installed Apex launcher as system launcher and no crashes either (one day running), very low battery consumption and awesome looks. You can add the ICS Theme Pack from kovdev to get the ICS icons.
Hello element!
I've installed the XEO firmware, then polish, just like you.
I have not done the wipe but updated via OTA.
I had already installed GoLauncher. When I've upgraded I've selected Golauncher instead of Tw.
Currently I have encountered frequent application crashes and one total block of the system. The battery, to be honest, I can not tell if it lasts more than gingerbread why I used the phone a lot for various customizations.
I do not know if the problem is that I did not do a wipe.
If he continues to give me problems I do a backup. After I install the rom again.
Tonight I remove the battery and after power on. Tomorrow, we'll update on my test.
PS The biggest problem is GoSmsPro. it sends multiple messages at one time. If I send you a message, you will receive two. I do not know how to solve.
PS2 The root I did with Odin and had no problems ...
Thanks for the help,
Hello!
As I promised you I a write updates.
I solved the problem of low stability: I made a deepclean and then installed applications without syncing (I installed all the applications manually).
Now I have one problem, the phone crashes when I try to change the background. If you have any idea: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23727272#post23727272
For the rest new rom does not seem bad ...
Thanks for your help,

Hey, check it out: One so called Tim Hutt put the stock calendar, messaging, and launcher app in the market and they all work just fine for me. The apps are called "Android 4 ICS Messaging SMS", "Android 4 ICS Calendar", and "Android 4 ICS Launcher".
The only bug I have (and it's not a big one) is that the screen doesn't light up when you receive a text message... Perhaps this is because I disabled/removed the official Samsung messaging services though... If you leave the default services enabled, then the screen lights up like normal but you have to select a setting in the ICS messaging app to disable the message receiver because then both the Samsung app and the ICS app will both write the text message to the database and you'll have duplicate incoming messages. Just go to settings and scroll to the very bottom to see what I mean... Enable that option if you don't remove the Samsung services/apps.

I really like the ICS Messaging app but I'd like to be able to install it without replacing TW messaging. Anyone know how I would do this? I know there's an ICS messaging app in the market, but I don't like it for various reasons.

Name the ICS mms.apk to mms2.apk and push to system/app. Set permissions to RW/R/R and reboot. When its don't booting you should have two messaging apps in the app drawer.

I followed your suggestion but I still have only the Touch Wiz launcher in my app drawer. I renamed mms.apk to mms2.apk, copied to system/app, changed pemissions to rw/r/r and then rebooted.
I'm wondering if I need to install mms2.apk with package installer? I started to try this, but I get the message "Replace Application. This is a system application. Do you still want to replace it?"
I would back up the stock messenger then try to install. If it doesn't work just uninstall and replace it.

OK, I tried installing ICS messaging and let the installation replace TW messaging - ICS messaging wouldn't work...just kept crashing when I tried to open it. Tried a few reboots with no luck. Went back to TW messaging for now.

Hey, there is an ICS messaging app in the play store.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
Yeah. If you did all that and still didn't work then you may want to just try the one in the play store for now. Once all the leaks stop and an official build is released. I am going to make a touchwiz mms that mimics the ICS mms and release it. It wont be exactly the same of course but I have some really cool ideas to try out. Until there there is an abundance of themed mms apks around you can use.
I'll just stick with the touch wiz mms for now. The one in the play store has ads, and it looks bad even with the ads removed. I like the idea of a TW/ICS blend mms, so if you make it I'll try it.

I'm gonna do it for sure. I have all the pngs ready and just want to wait for the final build. Plus I am having trouble getting it to decompile properly so I can edit smali. But that's another deal entirely.
I tried this and pic messages don't work so I had to go back to TW messaging app

Aokp has stock ics with no tw mms app. works fine.
aokp rom is awesome. Check it out
I ran AOKP for about a week and it's cool, but I missed the little things about TW. Like the split mms and email apps.
I'm really not into the whole pink unicorn thing either.

I like Touchwiz at this point for the full functionality of it. Once source drops and TCP and the others can build from source. AOKP will be may favorite. I like many aspects of Touchwiz and will always mess with it. The wife will not run AOSP ROMs so I have to for her little tweaks. But if I had a choice between fully functional Touchwiz and fully functional AOSP. I would take the AOSP. But I understand what ya mean about the little things on TW
Hey guys, especially devs,
Is anyone able to do a flashable zip for Custom App Notifications like Whatsapp, Facebook Messenger etc.?
So that it pops up on lock screen like a sms notification?
I want to use it on all roms, so please dont write "USE VIPER".
Thank you

I join this movement. +1 Somebody should be able to look into it, this really has been my main point of dissapointment from the HTC one.
I'd like this too. Stinks we're limited to email, phone, sms and calendar.
Yep I also would love the tweak. really. It makes those apps more integrated into system.
Would be kind if these devs who already did it, will share it for the community.
Please post it in the threads!!
If I'm not mistaken.. viper have this feature.. and if I noticed right only they have it back in HOX day..

I don't like pop-ups that much so I use NotifierPro Plus from Google Play. That works with basically any app and is similar (but better IMO) to iOS' current banner notification system.
+1 ...
even i liked it when i was using the viper rom. Currently i am use trickdroid and i would love to have that feature in this... I have requested for that feature in the trickdroid thread. You guys too come and request. hope he gets convinced by the demand and adds in his next release...

Hi!
When you receive a new message, does sense home show a small number badge on the whatsapp icon like on previous HTC devices?
On my 10 i dont get the badge...does the new sense home support it for third party apps at all?
Newsest whatsapp version is already installed. Didnt try a reinstall yet, wanted to hear your experiences first.
Thanks!
I haven't got it

Same issue here as well
Same here. This might be a Whatsapp specific issue though, I do get the unread count on Mail, Telegram and Gmail apps.
Hm, when reading the FAQ on the whatsapp page im not sure that this is an issue with whatsapp, cause they are "blaming" the launcher, if it doesnt work.
Same problem here with whatsapp. I use typemail for email and that does show a unread badge
Same here. I use MS Outlook as Mailclient and it doesn't show badges as well. How is the chance that this will get a fix soon? ^^
It was working on whatsapp for me until I did a factory reset... Now it doesn't work

I didnt do a reset, it just didnt work out of the box. Maybe lets wait for the next Whatsapp version. Any other ideas?
Doesn't work for me either. I have send Whatsapp-support a message about this.
I believe this is an issue with Sense Home as I have the same problem with WhatsApp and also with truecaller. For true caller, I once got 1 notification and now it just wont go away or change.
Got the Sense Home update, but still the same problem. Can anyone who has the icon badge work on Whatsapp confirm it? Is it not working for all HTC 10 owners or only a few?
I got a sense update and a whatsapp update yesterday and now I can see the notification number on the icon
Whatsapp update version 2.16.98 fixed it.
Fixed on my end as well ????

Still no little number icons on my icon...
I see the same yet I see it also with Facebook app which might be the app issue.

Can someone please check their Widget list and see if the stock messaging/ SMS widget is there. For some reason mine is missing, i use nova launcher and thought that maybe the issue, but its not there in stock launcher either.
Thanks.
I don't use it but I just tried to set a widget and it doesn't appear in my list of widgets.
What the heck. The widget used to be there for me on my S9. Can someone else confirm if they see it or not also. It makes Bo since why it would be removed. On my work phone galaxy S6. It is working as usual.

Same reason they removed image resizing from the photo editing app, replaced "keep screen off in a dark place such as pocket or bag" with "touch is disabled in a dark place", screen will now happily come on and stay on though... and other dumb changes that make no sense
At a guess for the messages widget, stats probably showed it wasn't used much but who knows with Samsung
anyone get a previous version working? i really miss a widget..

Use a different SMS app that contains a widget?
Android Messages has widgets and is a much better app in my opinion.
i really like to keep my phone minimalist with no extra apps unless i have too.. also it's nice having one that respects the theming engine of the phone.

Then there's no reason to even buy a high end phone especially with Samsung's less than stellar apps. Just my opinion, but like a**holes, everybody has one.

The widget is gone for me also. Happened when I updated the Google Android Messages app on Google play store yesterday. I've tried to uninstall and reinstall the Google SMS app several times which was not stock on my phone, have cleared my phone's cache a from the safe mode screen, and also cannot find the SMS widget for stock messages app or Facebook Messenger.

After toying around on and off all day, I found an older version of the Google Android Messages app that works and has the widget. I do not promote installing apps from unverified sources outside if the Google Play Store as it can be a risk to your device. Here is the application that I found to be working:
