HTC Releases Desire HD Source Code - Desire General

HTC Releases Desire HD Source Code
For those of you with an HTC Desire HD, today is a good day for you! HTC has released the opensource bits of the Desire HD's source code on their developer website (see below for link). The most important parts of this release are the kernel and the drivers for the phone.
With the kernel and drivers code developers and tinkerers can start building custom ROMs for the device, making it go faster, the battery last longer, and who knows what other sorts of cool stuff! This won't happen over night, but now that the code is in the wild, it's just a matter of time.
And for you guys that would never, ever run a custom ROM on your phone, you've got good news, too! The more sets of eyes looking at the source code, the more likely it is that bugs will be found and fixed. This means that your devices will likely get more stable and bug-free the longer the community digs into the code.

has anyone played around with the desire hd rom and got it working fully on the desire yet ?

Check the development section, there are already ports, only the camera doesn't work but other than that everything is perfect.

But with this Source Code we will maybe se more stable HD roms + working camera?

Kernel 3.0?

Hi there,
I've just join this zone for haft a month and wanna to do something with this `Dev Dream Phone`. (I'm talking about G2 & Desire Z in this thread)
I see there are many ICS ROMs ported from CM9, MIUI v4 but not see any kernel 3.0 for it.
I think this thread could help to discuss and help to merge current branch of kernel 2.6.35 to 3.0 then we will have more features from v3, compatible with ICS, less problem and good performance since inherited many improvement from v3.
So, for get started with, I will need someone who know exactly current state of development / port for this device. It will be more easy after we have a clearly view.
Some questions:
- Which is best kernel implemented / tweaked / modded known work for ICS or GB on this device ?
- Where are there repositories?
- Any effort to port kernel 3.0 to make it work on this device?
- Anyone success to boot a ROM with kernel 3.0?
- Any problem we are facing?
Update 1:
- Sensation HTC Kernel HTC 3.0.16: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1448799
Thank you for reading and wishing we will have success with this update.

We need to wait for a leaked version of a 3.0 kernel for our chipset, don't we ? Maybe the leak of the Sensation XL ROM that was posted about recently might help (Sensation XL has same chipset as DHD, i.e. same as us).

Yeah, I think so, it is easier for us while Sensation has same chipset as our devices.

good luck

Looks like the release ICS base from HTC is out for the Sensation. Will be working on updating Virtuous Sensation this weekend.

The Sensation is not msm7x30 and will not help in anyway.
Just check Sensation and see it is using difference chipset: Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8260, but at least it is HTC & Qualcomm so, hope it will be not very difficult!
Sensation is a different chipset, but Sensation XL is the same as ours

What's wrong?
I browse specs on pdadb.net and see that all Sensation phones are using MSM 82xx while our is MSM 72xx
FYI, http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=3094&c=htc_sensation_xl_x315__bass_htc_runnymede

Not all MSM82xx are the same as ours. Sensation (Pyramid) uses MSM8260, which is a different chipset (e.g. Adreno 220 GPU vs our Adreno 205). Sensation XE uses that too. Sensation XL uses MSM8255 and that's the same as Desire HD and Desire S, which is also the same chipset (just different clock speed) as our MSM7230.
So ICS for Sensation XL will help us a lot (same chipset). ICS for Sensation or Sensation XE doesn't really help us at all.

Forget about getting kernel source from HTC. It isn't going to happen. This work has to be done the HARD WAY.

Nope, I have to disappoint you but once htc releases the kernel for the Sensation XL, Desire S or Desire HD, we will be able to reuse most of that for our devices. Also the leak of the XL will be a great base to start building a fully functioning ics rom (with proper gpu and camera drivers). So chin up and be positive

HTC has already released kernel source for previous releases, so they'll do the same for ICS. Maybe you were referring to the source for proprietary drivers which they won't release, but that's fine because we don't need that anyway, we can just use the compiled libraries etc (e.g. we don't have HTC source code for some of the drivers for Gingerbread for our phone, but we still have lots of great GB ROMs).

HTC have GB upgrade via OTA then we have a lots of GB ROMs is of course, ICS is a bit harder but we have many ROMs here anyway
And this device is absolutely open everything then it is not very hard to get something work except when we reach limit of technical like memory size, Internal Storage or CPU power...
So, be positive

[NOTICE] CyanogenMod 7 Official Support

Finally the wildfire S is going to have official support for this, andthee devolopers of cyanogen are working on this.
Here is the notice:
It’s been nearly two months since we released the initial 7.2 RC1. Since then, the team has been working hard to identify and fix the issues reported to the bug tracker. We are nearing our release of CyanogenMod 7.2, based on Android 2.3.7 and will be releasing…….soon! You didn’t think you were getting an ETA did you?
Users may notice that some devices that received RC1 will not be graduated to a stable release. This is due to bugs we consider as showstoppers, but we feel there is no reason to hold up working devices for a few stragglers. The stragglers are not dropped, but will play catch-up to receive a 7.2-stable release.
What’s Next?
Many people have wondered what will become of CyanogenMod 7 now that Ice Cream Sandwich work has begun, and likewise, what happens to all the devices that won’t make it to CyanogenMod 9. We aren’t just leaving you behind.
The 7.x branch of CyanogenMod will stay open, available, and active beyond 7.2. We may switch to a more weekly drop of the infamous nightlies at some point, but they will continue as well.
In addition to that good news, we have a slew of new devices being merged into mainline thanks in part to our developer relations initiative and the greater Android community.
After CyanogenMod 7.2 is released, we will be merging in and welcoming aboard maintainers for the following devices (with more queued):
HTC Status (chacha)
HTC Wildfire S (marvel)
LG Optimus Chic (e720)
Motorola Photon (sunfire)
Samsung Galaxy 5 (i5500)

[Q] One X and CM9...

I'm so, SO interested it swap my SGS2 with a One X. It looks so gorgeous.
My only concern is about the Tegra thing.
I guess how much control / development the amazing CM team will be able to obtain over the phone.
I briefly looked around and only found a port of CM9 for the OneX, while still no official.
If I'm not wrong, US saw the OneX only very recently, so perhaps it's simply too early for that.
What do you guys think about it ?
You feel like Tegra (which is nVidia, one of the most reluctanct player in the market to open up things) could be a major issue for custom developers ? Thinking of CM9 and future CM10...
Best regards

I dont think its a big issue, considering the transformer prime is running CM as well.
Plus, the current inofficial CM9 build has full hardware rendering enabled already. There still some small issues with RIL which causes volume issues with the earpiece and non-functional WiFi Hotspot, but everything else works just fine so far.
Thank you for these consolidated infos !
Those made me some more confident
I don't know why it doesn't have cm9 just yet, I think HTC as already outed the sources

One X's future updates

Hi everybody, I'm considering buying an One X and was wondering what's the state of future updates as far as AOSP/AOKP goes.
I'm asking because I currently have Galaxy S2 which gets all the new Android releases from cm/aokp but has some problems due to the kernel source code not being published for the Samsung made Exynos chip - from what I understand it makes coding very difficult and a lot of rom coders stay away from the device and move to newer and easier phones to code for.
Does One X has a similar problem making it's life span shorter in terms of Android releases or no such problem and I should expect new Anroid releases for the next few years (not official but AOKP)?
Thanks ahead!!

[Q] Why havent we seen any source built ROMs thus far?

Hi All,
Seeing as the source code for the M8 sense and GPe's various open source components has been released for over a month now, why havent we seen any source built ROMs yet? Things like a Paranoid port or a CM11 port would be welcome on our devices (i know not all of you want it but some of you certainly do). I ask because i am considering building something from source for the M8 and modifying various aspects in order to solve what i perceive as the problems with Android on our device.
Kind of half expected a Tizen or Ubuntu Touch port in the pipes at this point also. But its probably early days for that.
Cm is being worked on for the m8. Most of those roms are based on or use components of cm so I imagine once cm puts a working rom up many more will follow.
