[Q] Flashing Radio's with fastboot. - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
Now that we have S-OFF and the ability to flash radio.img's from fastboot, I just wondered what follows the flashing?
What I mean is, when you flash a radio via recovery, it flashes, then you have to reboot the device using the recovery menu, it then reboots, does some more flashing, and then reboots again.
Does the fastboot method do the same? Just for future reference so I don't pull the battery (for example) at the wrong time.
Thanks
Stu

No just use the standard fastboot flash command and it should flash straight away, thats why recovery has to reboot because it has to flash from the bootloader....

cannot access recovery on DHD

hey everyone, i have an sim free desire HD that was rooted and s-off and has been running like that for a while. recently i tried to access clockwork mod to try and flash a new rom but when i did so the recovery does not load. Its just stuck on the htc splash screen, it doesnt even say quietly brilliant. The phone still works but i cannot access recovery. I tried the following procedure in fastboot to re flash the recovery
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot flash recovery recoveryCWM.img
fastboot reboot
after doing this it still has not worked. Any suggestions or a certain fix would be brilliant.
Thanks
You can put the PD98IMG.zip from my downgrade post to your SD card and reboot to bootloader, it will flash you the 1.32 stock ROM and you can start from a clean table.
use an older version of recovery

I had the same problem, with clockwork 3.0.0.6 ... I then flashed 3.0.0.5 (see the bottom of the Rom manager Menu that proposes you to use former recovery roms). I could solve my problem that way.

[Q] Unable to go into Recovery.

This is what I did before I have this problem with my 1X.
1. Unlocked using htcdev.com
2. Installed CWM from here.
3. SuperWipe.
4. I went back to Hboot after SuperWipe instead of flashing rom.
5. I went back to recovery but my phone will shut down right after HTC logo and reboot by itself and it will just stuck there.
Could anyone help me please? What did I do wrong?

You didn't flash another ROM after the Super Wipe that's what!!
You'll need to flash your RUU to go back to stock and start again
Ok I will help you out but you need to be more careful.
Also I would recommend against using superwipe right now.
That's my personal opinion....
get into fastboot
Connect USB
from your pc in fastboot directory type:
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot bootloader
now get into recovery and flash the Rom..
thank you.
I was scared and did factory reset from hboot. flashed CWM again and I can go into recovery mode now but obviously there's no rom to flash in my phone now.
downloaded Asia WWE RUU. it can't find my phone after the part when I turned on the phone to connect to pc because it's stuck in htc logo?
I'm in trouble now.
1. Boot into HBOOT, then select FASTBOOT from the menu.
2. Use the fastboot commands to flash the stock recovery (get it from the CWM thread)
3. Use the fastboot commands to relock the bootloader
4. Flash the RUU for your phone
Should get you back to stock
1) Flash stock recovery:
Grab it from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1579797
Then Boot in bootloader >> Fastboot and issue the following command (assuming that the offical recovery is named recovery.img): fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
2) Relock Bootloader:
Boot in bootloader >> Fastboot and issue the following command: fastboot oem lock
3) Find and run/flash the RUU for your device, find it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1543604

[Q] Cannot install any custom recovery.

I have successfully unlocked the bootloader. I flashed the cwm recovery by fastboot with the proper command and the command executed fine. I also erased the cache with fastboot. But when I select recovery from the hboot menu it gets stuck on to screen with the HTC logo with following text in red "this build is for development purposes only do not distribute outside of htc without written permission". I cannot access the cwm menu.
I tried the twrp recovery too but no avail. The same screen comes up.
I searched a bit and found that some have faced the same issue with HTC ONE X and had their problem solved by flashing an interim unofficial cwm built for their device. But I can't find any such interim cwm recovery for HTC ONE V.
Please help.

fastboot flash recovery nameoftherecovery.img
In my case it was fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Nothing wrong on my side. This is not my first time.
And the commands executed without any error.
I even relocked the bootloader and unlocked it again. But, still the problem persists.

If you take a ruu and remove the Rom.zip and from that take the recovery.img and flash that, does the phone boot into the stock recovery?

[Q] How do you put your phone is fastboot?

I'm downgrade my modem to ZV8 so that I can run CM11.
So that I can run:
fastboot erase modem
fastboot flash modem modem-zv8.img
But I can't seem to get my phone into fast boot. TWRP recovery does not appear to offer it.
I-ve tried using ADB REBOOT-BOOTLOADER but it just reboots the phone when I try it. The same thing happens from TWRP when I select BOOT-LOADER.
Just tot to zv8. Easier and safer. No problems with a mistake. Firmware and radio would be needed I do believe

normally what i do is if i can boot my device to the stock rom i install autorec d802 version anf run the prompts and reboot to the recovery which then gives me fastboot

Only fastboot works on my zenfone.

Hi. I'm terribly lost.
I bought a ze500kl (z00ed) and played around with root, twrp and marshmallow. The last thing I did was installing marshmallow and then I wanted to flash twrp.
What I ended up with is a phone which you can't boot, you can't get into recovery and I'm not even able to flash any other recovery than the stock one. And even if I flash it 'successsuccessfully' I'm still not able to boot into it.
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
yields the phone starting back into fastboot mode.
As far as I understood my bootloader seems to be locked.
How can I get my phone working again?
The command fastboot reboot-bootloader only boots you into the bootloader, meaning to the fastboot. If you want to boot to recovery, you need to select this option in the fastboot menu. I don't remember if you can use a fastboot command for that, and I can't turn off my phone to check.
On the ze500kl, when phone off, press vol- and power to enter recovery.
some progress
Thanks for the info. I did already try to wrok with the vol- button but it just keeps showing the ASUS and android logos and doesn't start twrp. I've succeeded to install the system thanks to the following site: (I c'an't post it cuz I'm not here long enough) however now I'm again not getting into twrp.

If you haven't unlocked your bootloader then you can't flash TWRP. You need to unlock bootloader. I have the 551ML so can't help here. Try the search function and read...
Try to erase your cache partition in fastboot with the command "fastboot erase cache", this might get you booting back into Android but since you've been playing around without doing the necessary reading, no guarantees...
To get to recovery, stock or custom, you must go through fastboot or bootloader mode. You need to use the volume key until it says recovery then hit power key. It will reboot the phone and most probably show you a droid on its back with "Error" above it (if it's still stock). Hold down power and press volume up to enter recovery.

I did qutite some experimenting today. What I'm currently ended up with is:
1) I can boot into the system.
2) I can't boot into the recovery of the Phone
3) I can boot the StockRecovery via fastboot however I can't boot TWRP by any procedure (Although I was able to do so during my experimenting. I don't understand why it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't)
4) My Phone is Rooted (at least it says so)
5) I have run the Unlock.Zip via TWRP when I had TWRP flashed however now I'm again at a point where I can't start TWRP at all.
I find this very confusing and I can't see any pattern to it. For now I'm OK with having a more or less functional phone but I'd like it to be more reliable and predictable in behaviour.
First of all you can't boot directly to recovery the way you are thinking. Booting into fastboot (actually called the bootloader) then selecting recovery is the normal way. You can't have 2 recoveries on your phone. So you probably did the tethered version of TWRP the first time. I don't have the link handy but you need to get the official TWRP and use fastboot to install.

You HAVEN'T UNLOCKED YOUR BOOTLOADER...
No recovery or custom rom will flash successfully... It will say it will, but you will either go into bootloop or just get stuck at ASUS logo...
Nothing will stick until the bootloader is unlocked, if you use tethered TWRP and flash a custom rom you will softbrick your phone until you flash a stock rom back on.
If you go ahead and flash TWRP onto your phone using fastboot then you will have NO recovery on your phone.
You have been warned...

Well I disagree and I think you are wrong . I strongly assume that I have TWRP installed as I'm able to boot into it without having the phone connected to the computer.
Consequently I HAVE unlocked my bootloader and I DO HAVE a recovery on my phone. And of course I'm not able to install a custom rom seing that there aren't any for my model yet.
I think however that I've (for now) [SOLVED] my problem and we're drifting away from the original topic. Thanks for your quick help :highfive:
