I'm more than happy with this phone. I'm not getting very good battery life, and can't last a day, but I'm not too concerned because I'm sure tweaks will be found to increase battery life and a bigger battery will probably be available at some stage.

i would like to see how desire hd will get bigger battery life if it goes inside the phone hardware unlike the HD2 with its own cover.

Battery life is not a problem nowadays with any device. Just get a couple of $5 batteries from hongkong (eBay) with a charger. Keep a full charged battery in your pocket and you will see that you don't give a d*mn about how fast or slow the device is draining the battery.

YES!! Got everything I need!

I still can't make up my mind on my DHD, afew things bother me about it, the battery life, the sound, and the weight of it. Im thinking about changing it for a iPhone 4 as I've had my heart set on one for awhile now.

Totally agree, the desire HD already weighs a ton...lol we don't need any more weight added! :0s

The battery seem to be very good I've charged it once like in two days and been using it all the time. Weight well I just think it show quality lol and noo don't get a iPhone you will be one in a million with the same phone. Lol

Battery is better then I expected but dies fast under heavy load. the text input can be laggy and difficult due to the extremely sensitive screen, just need to be near it for it to sense an input! With there being so little boarder round edge of the phone it often thinks I'm trying to do something else when I'm just trying to hold it in my big hands :S annoying when trying to type!!!!!!
The camera is a massive step up from my TP2. Haven't tried video in daylight yet, got the DHD and went straight to a wedding.

Im totally the other way, typing is a joy, no lag at all, never touched something I didn't want to while holding it.
The camera and video are almost unusable indoors, going from light to dark, very bad, not to bad outside but still this is the biggest problem with this phone, Im hoping this can be sorted out.
All in all very pleased with it but Ill be upgrading to HTC next phone next year probably....if its any good haha

Again no one mentions the camera and video going from light to dark, very bad, I thought this would be the number 1 complaint.

I guess it depends what you want to use it for. I have a digital slr for photos, am happy with something that takes adequate spur of the moment pics.
I've never understood taking videos, just not my thing, even dating back to when camcorders first came out. I recently had to sit thru a video of a friends 40th. They were sitting there laughing away and I was thinking to myself 'i was there, I know all this already!'.

Having just moved from a jailbroken iPhone, if you want to customise your phone in anyway I would highly discourage anyone from the iPhone. The iPhone is a great piece of kit as long as you use it the way apple intended and no other.
Android and HTC are so much more flexible and cusomisable

Hi I've had my DHD for about 4 days and I'm happy. The battery doesn't last more than a day but I'm playing around more than I normally would so sort of expecting it.
The screen is really good and as far as pictures and videos go, they are as good as I would expect from camera phone. To expect more would be silly I feel, like one of the other posts said there are dedicated cameras if you want really good pictures.
The software could maybe do with some tweaks but I'm sure with updates they will come.
Cheers muzzy

What's Problem also with Sound?

Happy
Battery life is on a par with my previous 3 devices!! Why are people going on about this. Give the phone at least a week for a few recharges to condition the battery and you will get a day's use out of it under normal use. I keep the charger by my bed and it's all set to go the next day.
My only gripe is the external speaker. Otherwise very happy

[Q] Are you bored of your HTC Desire?

Hello
After flashing, re flashing and re re flashing so many times.... now atleast i have gone bored of the HTC Desire. This is mainly because there are not many good quality apps specially games. I am no Apple fanboy but the app store is something that android doesnt looks like achieving pretty soon.
The main things i like in HTC Desire are as following:-
1) Wifi Hotspot. WOW! thats so cool
2) being able to customize it as u want it to with widgets.
3) FRIENDSTREAM WIDGET its simply awesome
4) weather animations
Thats all.
The major things i dont like are:-
1) Camera. its just ok, not that good.
2) battery.... it drains battery as if its hungry all the time
3) no good games/apps
So what do you have to say? Are you still happy with the Desire or are you planning to go with something else?
As far as i am concerned i have decided to sell it very soon.... but wifi hotspot feature is what i love the most.
If you want to play games get a DS
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Angry Birds, Doodle Jump, Abducted, Alchemy... they are the best games I've installed on my phone
Kept me busy for a good while!
On top of that there's all the emulators - now they aren't so hot for action (but probably better with wiimote add in) games, but for some others they work just fine!
I love my Desire - before that I had the WM HTC Touch HD, now that has a serious lack of games... the best I found was solitaire or ScummVM...
I have to agree, there are not so many really good games in the market right now. But I'm sure this will change. Many surveys etc. suggest more and more developers of mobile application and games are considering developing for android, and seeing as the number of android phones rises continually I think the growing market will attract more and more developers. So I guess you just have to hang in there untill then
Yes I agree there are few game the ones u listed. But they completed and then what after that? Same boring things. When will we have more stuff. Android platform is awesome but.....

good point, but as you said its a multimedia phone, emphasis being on a phone, you say there are no good games but what are you comparing this too? a ds? a psp? these are dedicated gaming machines and therefore will always have the upper hand, as other mobile platforms go the games on android are quite good, just check out the gameloft HD series and others like NFS Shift
Rooting and installing a custom ROM is the answer, that is what makes the desires one of the best PDA's on the market nowadays even better than the iPhone I would say.
I have been an iPhone user for the last 2 years I just love how many more things I can do with my desire.
And if the battery issue is a problem try custom kernels, they work great
have tried custom roms... almost all good ones. but the battery problem still persists. actually by reading at various sites like engadget i came to know that the battery drain problem is actually of android os itself. hmmmm....
I was happy until the random reboots started and I cannot send it to service so I am stuck at using it as rare as possible since every time I use it to much it reboots and then gets stuck at the white HTC screen and I have to reinstall the ROM to be able to boot again.
I like(d) it alot, and am thinking of getting another Desire. Or getting a completely different company device. Still confused
Battery drain is not a problem at all. Just compare to other os and you'll see that the situation is better on Android os due to custom kernels and cpu dynamic speed adjusting.
I agree with the battery drain issue, and the touch feeling of screen is not better than IP4
lots of nice games on android you just need to know how to hunt them
with froyo the touch responsiveness is equal to the iphone 4, SLCD desire is pretty close to IP4 screen quality too, a little less density but better colors, the IP4 screen is also much closer to the surface which is nice but ours is a little bigger
my fav game is asphalt 5 but i keep loosing my save game due to messing with my rom
another very impressive game i'm hooked at is panzer panic
also minisquadron, hyperjump, meteor blitz, heavy gunner, backbreaker, need for speed shift and hero of sparta all very impressive

I am atm using Deforst with 1113 HAVS kernel and setin SetCpu to 1113 MHZ and I can tell you my battery life is much much better than when running stock froyo
one more thing i'm taking great pictures with the default camera app, you just need to know how to handle it's settings, for example i set sharpness to -2 which removes all the digital treatment ie over sharpness, also set colors and brightness + 1 and of course choosing correcting ISO at night
people are often just blindly impressed by the iphone 4 pics but compare them side by side and you will notice horrible performance at night from the iphone 4 and horrible of noise even at indoor daylight, even the colors produced by the iphone 4 camera are unreal
only two wins for the iphone 4 cam for me, the flawless 720p and HDR

desire is still good. but just now had a look at winphone 7 devices. awesomeness redefined

oh REALLY!!!! i dont get more than 1 day... even i have to charge 2-3 times a day. well... very soon, maybe, i will get a new phone. maybe windows phone 7. but it has lots of limitations just like iphone....
lets see.... what happens

Clarify a mistake i made on the new Evo.

Hey, I just want to clear something up so people dont think I mispoke before. I know I said "I think the new evo has a 4.5" screen". I was careful in my wording as I wasnt sure but I thought I was. The only thing I could base it on was a side by side comparison. I didnt have a tape measure in my pocket. But alas, now you will understand.
The new evo has a 16:9(5.33:3) aspect ratio. The Epic Touch is basically 5:3. The epic's screen is 4.52" and the evo is 4.7". I thought it was smaller. Here is why.
The width of the epic screen(when using some trig) is 2.32" and the height is 3.87". The new Evo is 2.3" by 4.09". So, the width was almost exactly the same and is was .22" longer. It is hard to tell especially when the phone appears smaller and it really is thin.
Now, you want some stats that you wont find anywhere else yet....
We all now know that the Evo has a 720(x1280)dpi screen. The Epic is 800x480. So for every inch there are 206 pixels lined up side by side on the Epic. The Evo on the other hand has 313. That is a huge and I mean a really huge difference. The iphone 4s has 329ppi but as we all know it is on a 3.5 inch midget screen.
At this level you would need a magnifing glass to see the pixels. I cannot speak for contrast. But this new screen is pretty great. It also blows the Nexus Galaxy out of the water.
Now for the other features. Specifically the processor, this processor is a whole generation past what we are on now. You can readily access the internet and see this. It outperforms all the quadcores available in the US as of now handily. It is about 2 times as fast as the Nexus Galaxy and our beloved SGS2. The only thing it might have a hiccup on is its comparison to the GPU on the iphone but not by much.
Now, I can not speak for build quality or styling. I just want to give some facts. Maybe even give you guys something to discuss. The same goes for the OS. That is where you guys come in.
I hope you all can appreciate the math that went into this. So, in short the screen is 50% clearer and the phone has the capability of being at least 50% faster. Makes you wonder what Samsung has up its sleeve.

I have but one issue with the phone, that being the non accessible battery. I have yet to have an android phone that I didn't need to pull the battery on once in a while when the phone locks up or starts acting weird.
How would one handle this with a battery that it not removable?
I am especially drawn to the sound quality of the earpiece if it's as good as I've heard, mainly because I wear hearing aids and every bit of additional clarity helps.
Lastly, the camera sound great but that remains to be proven in reality.

I know they've already rooted the HTC One X.... This happened like a week ago, I think before the phone actually hit market: I don't know if it was s-on or s-off, but root access is already there.

the main thing i hope for is the firmware is going to be the same between all the us variants as far as asop goes. same drivers that sort of stuff.

There must be a reset button of some sort, or a combo of hardware keys to reset. A lot of electronic devices have a recessed button that you have to press and hold for so many seconds with a paperclip to do a hard reset. I cant imagine htc would overlook this. My wife has an Evo shift (stock) and we have to pull the battery on that thing at least once a month
Pardon my ignorance here but if the screen is bigger and more pixels and a more powerful CPU and LTE then is the extra 200 compared to the 1800 battery we have in our phone going to be enough to make it last all day? I have to make a good decision when my NS4G line upgrade hits in late June and my head is already spinning with the GNex, new Evo and hopefully true specs on the S3

You should be able to hold the power down for 10 seconds to reboot.
Wait till aamikam gets his hand on it. He optimizes the **** out of Sense so battery life and performance are amazing. I was able to get over 20 hours of battery regularly on his ROMs with moderate usage on my Evo Shift.

I think the point is you shouldn't have to optimize your software to get a day of use out of a phone. 10 years ago my phone lasted twice as long as it does now. The new kindles last like 2 months. But, on my smartphone i can't play a game for more than 30 minutes without having a charger close. I would take a phone twice as thick as this one if the battery would last longer.
Sent from Team KC's founding member HTC Evo 4G LTE.
Eh on the evo 3d I was easily able to make it through a day. Pretty much the same as on my Epic touch.
Twice as long? Hardly, I made it 5 days on one charge.

Smart phones do so much more than the old phones did, which leads to a shorter battery life. Higher resolutions, higher levels of brightness, more powerful components, more advanced radios and features, etc.
Your phone 10 years ago is nothing compared to your phone now.
And comparing the new Kindles battery life to a phone is a faulty comparison, as the Kindles that get battery life of that magnitude use E-Ink instead of full on LCDs/AMOLEDs/etc.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA Premium App
i kmow that. I also know they make batteries twice as large as the one in the phone. It would be nice if it came from the company that way so you didnt have to add a beer belly to the back of the phone.

I wasn't trying to disparage anything you or anyone was saying. I certainly hope manufacturers make a focus on better batteries and battery life, but in the mean time developers have managed to squeeze every drop of juice out of what we've been dealt.

All good points. Don't forget the kindle fire does not have a radio and I believe it is wifi only. We could get way more life out of our batteries if we disabled the phone and turned 3g off too. I could live with a non removable battery if it was a giant one like the RAZR Maxx has in it. That phone is heavy but still pretty thin. I think HTC did their homework designing this phone and hopefully Sense 4.0 won't be a battery hawg like the older versions.

It would be great if they would add the battery to the back cover.. make it all in one, it would give it Much more room for more battery or they should just take the overall design off the slim phone, add just say 10 milomiters, still incredibly thin. and have a 3x size battery

On 4th OneX should I give up and get an S3

I really like 95% of this phone but I can't get one with no major issues. These are the things that are making me considering switching to an S3
- battery life still isn't great on the latest update. S3 should be much better
- inconsistent wifi - I don't have the hardware problem on this one (previous ones have) but staying in the same spot, I still a signal which fluctuates alot, where other devices recieve a consistent strong signal
- Chrome browser - really like this most of the time but I frequently just get a blank white screen and no amount of reloading works - it affects any website and all open tabs.
- overheating..especially when on charge (playing games) it flashes red/green or even just browsing (on low brightness) it gets very warm to touch (high 40's degrees C shown on Batter Monitor Widget)
I'm on stock BTW and am not a root-er so I'm not considering other ROMs. Had an S2 previously, liked it but not too keen the gingerbread look which the S3 seems to have stuck with on their ICS touchwizz) Any advice appreciated.
The S3s wifi is awful I have both. The S3 also gets very warm when playing games and charging. The issue with chrome is the app not the phone. Mine does it on the s3. The battery life would be better of you had more than one battery. As far as a single charge goes they are about the same.

Fair enough on the Chrome thing. I thought the s3 battery is meant to be a fair bit longer lasting (it's more powerful for starters). Guess these phones will run hot, just didn't expect it to stop charging as it's overheating when just browsing etc.
Which of the two handsets do you prefer?

Flash siyah kernel, it.has.excellent battery life.and.extended wifi.range and you can undervolt or.overclock with.the.built.in.app. on average i.get just over 4 hours screen on time, some report even.five hours, i guess it depends how much you.under volt. I prefer the one x myself & I know you can mod it but I was basing this as if it was stock no mods. & the s3 lasts a bit longer but not a major difference. I was plugging them in the same time.

Have both s3 and hox. I use the hox over s3. The pros far outweigh the cons. Especially if you dont intend to root and use custom roms. Stock cheezwiz on sgs3 is just pathetic. Sense is miles ahead and with the latest update it rocks. Stay with the hox.

Because he has an HOX so of course he's entitled to be here. And enough with defending HTC and bashing the disgruntled customers. They're entitled to voice their dissatisfaction. Just because you dont have to change many times to get a defect free handset doesnt mean you can rely on that to claim that HTC has done a good job w the manufacturing process. You're HTC's customers, not their employees. NO need to get worked up when somebody complains about a real issue.

Good to hear that people have also problems with the Chrome Page loading and I am not the only one. Hope they will fix it soon since it actually lost the Beta status few weeks ago.

Make sure it's not a WiFi antenna disconnection, make sure that your router is not on a channel where there's loads of interference, make sure that your phone is on 2.17.

1. S3 isn't, AMOLED EATS battery compared to S-LCD2. Unless you get another battery, in which case you'll blow the One X away.
2. Make sure there isn't any interference on your router, and make sure that the fluctuations are not affecting actual use of WiFi.
3. Chrome does this for everything.
4. Overheating will happen if you charge while playing games. Don't do it on these phones unless you really want to destroy it early from overheating. If you're going to charge it, leave it alone and stick with light use. Undervolting can also help with these issues, but if you go too far you will cause the phone to randomly go into bootloops that require a power button hold down to fix, or having the phone fall into a sleep of death.
WiFi signal fluctuations may also just be the phone's signal indicator actually being more representative of true signal. The only way to really know is to look at something like WiFi Analyzer and compare the dBm.
It's the same problem I've had with all three phones, when I squeeze the top right of the phone the reception goes full, but the first few weeks of using the phone the WiFi is perfect.
I'm pretty gutted that I'm movin on because I really like this phone, I'm not the biggest fan of Samsung but its the only other equivalent at the moment, I've had the hox from day 1 and its been great while the WiFi works, that's the only reason I'm changing, other wise I'd be HTC all the way

This doesn't really make sense?
Are you asking a question?
Or telling us something?
For the battery, not much you can do could try getting an App such as Juice defender but alot of the time they chew more battery than they save.
For your router, buy a new one?
For a quicker browser experience I would try Opera
Hope I helped.
Congratulation, although I don't consider Nokia as a bad brand and actually I fell Nokia is more like a RIM and focused towards business users.
About your wifi, if the signal is consistent than perhaps like you said, it's your router fault.
Also, check this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1579392 (You better start from last pages).
Also, you need to be aware roots app won't work without it. For the core controlling wait Jelly beans it seems HTC had a similar app already bundled with it.
Good Luck
I just wanna know did u guys have any suggestion for me? And im using juice defender but i need a good program for closing apps on ram... On task manager i need to close programs one by one...

1115$ = 2000 Turkish Lira and its very much. Smartphones at turkey is almost twice as expensive as usa or uk(thanks to taxes). As a turkish person I always buy smartphones from non-gsm and trustworthy places:good:

For the battery, there are some simple thing you can do; but first you have to clarify what you mean by "what to do with the battery"?
Do you wanna treat it well to have a long lasting battery over months/years, or do you want to use it economically so that you can have a longer battery life for every re-charge.
The first one is easy. Never let it shut down due to no power, always re-charge before %10; and charge it more frequently during the day, not draining it all and recharging back to %100.
The second one is tweaky and after years, I've lost my faith since the time wasted to learn and use that battery saving stuff and also the brain damage, is not worth it. totally my own opinion.
Just try to use Wi-Fi is you're at home or at work for long periods, swtich to 2G during those times, lower the screen brightness as much as you can and shut down vibration where possible.
One thing though, as the word spread about HTC OneX+ arriving, most of the sellers have reduced the price for One X, around 1600TL (which is roughly $880). Did you but it from 2000 TL recently? If yes, that should better be bought on an agreement with Turkcell, if not then you paid a little more =)
Agree with all the battery advice above. This is good information.
Would also add to steer clear of task killers/ managers. Your phone will manage apps itself (though I know a lot of people think it is a bit aggressive on the one x). If you are constantly going in to shut down apps, your battery life will actually take a hit. Just leave it to settle down and do its thing.

Armenian here Speak turkish fluently, Parents from istambul also.
I have two HOX's both international, One is in repair, my backup though is wonderful when it comes to battery life, I also agree those battery savers, and task managers really dont do anything in my opinion, its more trouble then its worth. My HOX thats in repair didnt do very well with battery, its rooted and all, but battery really sucked, but when I get it back I'm going to do a bit of digging. My backup is amazing, currently 14 hours and still have 63% battery life, and I have really done nothing with the brightness or anything like that. The battery will really depend on your usage. If your going to play alot of games expect the battery to drain rather quickly especially with 4 cores. I dont play many games really, and heavily mainly talk, text, and play games maybe 3 or 4 times a month. From what I've seen, the battery doesnt take too much of a hit until you go past roughly 15 mins of playing an intense game, at which point the cores start to heat up and the constant screen being on which drains the battery quicker.
Also I would suggest dont use too many apps that sync in the background, thats another battery killer. And as great as live wallpaper might be, thats another one that drains it. If you use data as someone said try not to and use the wifi, I dont use data ever and have shut it down and just use wifi.
But based on my two Hox's I have to say I think build quality of the phone has a big part to play in the battery life, but I am going to do more testing on this once I get back my other phone from repair.

Battery life on android is way below the performance on symbian. But you have much more flexibility and apps on android then symbian.

You remind me the good old time with my Nokia phones (big like a brick) that could last 1 week with one single charge
Killing apps to "free RAM" (why do you need it free?!?) and preserving battery are two mutually exclusive things. My advice is to stay away from any automated task managers and accept the fact that the only way to preserve battery is to use your phone less.
BTW you could've come to Bulgaria to buy the phone - it would've cost you much less

What's the most frustrating thing about your GNex?

For me, it's how if I press a navbar key while an app is lagging, it registers as a long press. Since I have my navbar super modded out with custom long press functions, it causes my phone to do random unintended things!
I think it would have to be that it refuses to get up and bring me coffee in the morning. I mean come on, I don't ask for much, just get me some damn coffee.

Wish the camera was quicker in capturing unexpected moments. No matter what ROM is installed, it's just not fast enough. I'm speaking about time from picking up the phone, unlocking it, launching the camera app, and then taking a picture.

I've reverted from the latest 4.2.2 jelly bean ROMs (primarily MMuzzy) back to 4.0.4 ice cream sandwich, because I was getting horrible battery life. Back on ICS I'm getting almost a day of battery life with 2-4 hours onscreen time, and because of that odd backwards switch I lost that ability with the camera. Even then, there was still some lag getting the camera app running, and then it took a while to focus on the subject you were trying to capture.
Good suggestion to anyone who didn't know about that, though.
Probably the fact that I can't seem to find a good GLASS screen protector for it that will fit with my otterbox commuter case and that won't start to peel up after a few months.
Besides that with the phone itself....the radios. I've owned low end android devices with specs much worse than this phone and I always had better reception.
Oh and the USB port. Just got a insurance replacement and it has USB issues off the bat. Dealing with it as long as I can because I'm hearing asurion no longer offers the 32gb nexus.
Waiting for the next one.

Roam Control doesn't work
Let's see, I hate 4.2.2, its buggy and the lock screen widgets are slow. The battery life sucks, the camera sucks in anything but sunlight. Besides that, I guess I'll be able to put up with it for another couple months, already had it for a year and 5 months.

It's a 16gb version. That's the only difference. There was a thread somewhere in these forums about it not too long ago. Someone got an asurion replacement and found out it was only 16gb and when he called they said that's what they had now....found it kinda odd because I just got a 32gb version from them maybe 4 days before the thread popped up. If you search you can find it I'm sure, but I'm getting ready to flash a ROM:thumbup: One of my favorite things about having a nexus

Oh yeah I forgot how ****ty the radios are. This goes hand in hand with battery life, my school is practically a dead spot on the lower level with my nexus while other phone have no problem maintaining signal. The crap signal slaughters my battery, literally drops like 30%.
