Hi
I type a lot of SMS in Portuguese, and every time I use a special character, like ç, the max length of the message drops down to 70.
I read in the forums this is because it changes the encoding to Unicode.
Is it possible to disable it using handcent sms, or maybe Rom wise? Or maybe chompsms has that option?
thank you!

In the Greek Rom from Qtek devises in Greece, there is an application witch converts the characters wenn you typing an sms, and you can write 160, and not 70 characters pro sms.
The foto shows witch application is that.
I am also uploading two files, witch i think is a part of this application,
but it not runs on other non Greek rom devices. It's locked.
Can anyone help me, and maybe all the Greeks to solve this problem?

When I send SMS in Chinese, the receiving party only sees ***** instead of Chinese character. However, the sent message characters displayed normally on my phone. I saw some posting with similar problem on Galaxy S. That can be fixed by setting the input method to Unicode in the SMS app, but I cannot find this option in G2. Anyone has any idea?
Does anyone experience similar problem? Or you don't encounter any problem sending SMS in Chinese?

I don't know about Chinese but I have a problem with Portuguese. When I type an accentuated character the number of available characters decrease. As an example, when I start a new sms I have 0/160 characters available. Then if I type an 'á' the counter reads 1/70 but if I type an 'a' it reads 1/160. I think I had the same problem in my old Nokia phone and I solved it selecting unicode charset or something like that but I can't find that option on the desire z...
I don't mean to offend anyone by saying this, however, wouldn't it just be easier to type in english?

I'm Portuguese, I live in Portugal, all my friends are portuguese and in Portugal we speak portuguese. Why the heck would I want to write in english??
Greetings friends!
A short description of my problem is as follows:
When typing Greek language in SMS, a factory default DHD would normally automatically change characters typed, in order to maintain the max character limit to 160. When flashing a custom ROM, typing an SMS with Greek chracters will, under some certain circumstances (by typing specific characters), lower the limite of the max characters per SMS to 70.
I am trying to locate this personalized ASCII map, or software, that helps converting these "strange" characters to "normal" from a NANDROID backup, made while I was on stock ROM, without success.
Does anybody have experience with this matter? Any help would be appreciated!
Thank you very much for your time!
Kostantinos
I'm facing (along with many, many others) this problem.
Some background: ACE Hellas (HTC's vendor in Greece) has a history (since WinMo days) to sell phones with modified software to battle this problem. However, extracting the relevant IME apk from a stock Greek device and replacing the apk of custom ROMs in system/app produces nothing - the keyboard doesn't even appear in the KB list!
Another detail: when writing an SMS in Greek, strangely so, the limit stays at 160 characters if you type greek characters. Once you type a character that is common to Greek and Latin keyboards (M,N,O,T etc) it switches to a 70-char limit.
Any help would be much, much appreciated by the entire Greek community... I've tried every suggested solution out there to no avail.
...bump? Anyone?

as for the camera, you can use this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.moblynx.cameraics&hl=en
and about the MMS app... i was just wondering, im using a keyboard with a polish dictionary, so as plbubu pointed out, because of the character set, the length of the message is limited, is there a way/app of converting the message to one with no special characters (ex ć -> c etc)
i know i could achieve this by modifying the dictionary OR by not using a dictionary, but I'm searching for a legit and easy solution.
i think our revolution is in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22209188&postcount=2
"messaging app without restriction package" i think this what we need
but i can't find someone who give me this package.
