So i just ordered a desire from Halebop with 2 years contract.
I don't know if the phone will be branded/locked but i think it probably will be.
I have read that some people have had problem with rooting branded phones and now i need to know if it is more complicated/risky than root a unbranded desire.
My Wildfire wasn't branded and i rooted it two days after i got it and within a week i had tryed "all" (there are like 3-4 good) roms available for wildfire.
I never had problem with it, rooting, rom changed etc was realy easy. (only android sdk took some time to learn)
Well to the point already...
Well how much more difficult is it to root a branded desire compared to an non branded wildfire?

I had a similar question 2 days ago and am now running froyo (thanks to my own help really though)
Here is my thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=748105
Hi,
All just got my HTC Desire this morning and eager to go, but not sure how to start.
Can someone let me know in what order I should begin?
My phone is locked to T Mobile and I have 8gb memory card and would like to have gold card, A2SD+ and Froyo 2.2.
Hope I aint sounding too amibitious for a newbie, just want to do things in the right order.
Please asume I a total numbskull (wife does)
Reagrds
I'd wait for UnrEVOked 3.2 to be reposted (it has been removed for a short while to sort out some issues).
If it works for you, you won't need a gold card which makes the whole process much easier.
Regards,
Dave
first thing is just use the phone, get used to it, enjoy it. If you then feel you need to look into custom ROMs then read the posts from the Chefs and see which one is right for you. TBH, stock 2.2 is more than adequate unless you wanna install an obscene amounts of apps

True that, just enjoy the phone! Right now you havnt really got a reason for upgrading, unless you really want 720p.. 2.1 is just as fast, just dont mess with the phone too kuch for now.. do you have an amoled or an slcd version?!

Don't worry about the iPhone4, the desire is better imo. Even if it is unrooted, and the iphoney is jb-ed.At least you can hold your phone and call at the same time ;-).

I also have to agree with EddyOS.
And keep in mind, most applications coming out now including updated applications have the option to be moved to SD.
So Unrevoked 3.2 will root my desire which was updated OTA with stock froyo 2.2? I have unbranded device btw. Software number is 2.09.405.8, and HBOOT is 0.92.0001
me too has chosen the HTC desire for enleghten my contract with T mobile,.its not a tmobile phone but my provider is ,.i started searching some themes last night ,. and found out i need to root ,. and put a new Rom on it like Leedroid or cyanogen rom for applying some stunning Themes ,. so i dig in deeper all day long today founding out there is not 1 program yet except for unrevoked 3.2(wich is taken due some bugs) that would possible root my android 2.2 phone ,.tho i came across many links from this site,. and enjoy the loads of info on here .
OK I am going to sound really stupid now.
In my eagerness to download apps (some do not have the option to send to SD card) I have used the internal memory up.
How do I configure the phone that all apps get moved to the SD as routine?
Yep a totally dumbo I know, you can beat me up later

Yes, you are dumb. Not for downloading too many apps, but because you don't understand that almost every forum has a search function. Even asking the almighty google would have given you the answer without being flamed.
Apps2sd. The app in the marked, not the root-mod. But don't put widgets on sd.

Hi all.
Not an XDA newbie, but I am a 100% Desire HD newbie.
I've owned a HD2 for the last 18 mths and been flashing stacks of Android builds etc etc....and HD2 has been great, but wayyyy to many irritating problems to continue......so i've sold it and bought a Desire HD and taking delivery of it tommorow.
Couple of questions if it's ok:
1: I owned 2 x HD2 and both of them, along with STACKS of other HD2s suffered a big problem of completely freezing up when either mobile data was turned on, or GPS was turned on, and if the phone got over 33 degrees......I know I shoulda checked before I bought the Desire, but does this happen or is it a common thing with the Desire HD?
2: It's a used phone, but only a few weeks old an in as new condition, BUT, i'm on THREE network (UK) and the phone is locked to Vodaphone........are there any tricks or any recomended, pretty cheap places to unlock it online etc??
(did use search, but found nothing)
Any info, be very much appreciated and looking forward to being a fully fledged member of the Desire HD forum when I get it tommorow
cheers
Matt
Hi Matt, welcome to Desire HD section. I would be glad to help you.
As far as I know, there is no issue such as phone freezing up when using mobile data or gps. The only related issues are either reception or driver's error. But they are kernel and radio related problems.
Depending on the phone's Android OS build, you can either Gingerbreak or simply downgrade to achieve full phone unlock, including the sim unlock that you've asked before. The guide to do so can be found in the Desire HD Android Development Section (stickies and some thread for downgrading).
Have a nice day reading all of it and good luck.

Hey matt congratz on the DHD I know how you feel.
Well the HD2, I pm'ed you ;-)
Believe it or not the DHD has a GPS issue but that has to due to the GPS antenna being in the camera flash plastic thingie and that tends to have contact issues.
You can buy a cheap replacement http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Original-...K_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item20b8394272
Wow seems like the guy added £5 to the price I paid a couple of weeks ago.
There are some nice roms here too (I use the MIUI one) and most developers are very rapid to respond to questions.
As far as unlocking goes, wouldn't know as locking by provider is forbidden in Belgium
Hello, my girlfriend recently bought a cheap, off contract, Wildfire. I quickly got home and tried rooting it, the lag was making me squeamish . I tried the unrevoked method but was met with "The device "bee" is not supported at this time". I did my research but only found really old threads. Since I'm a complete noob at this I decided to turn to your services to see if you could aid me accomplish root.
The phone is carrying android 2.2.1 and hboot 1.30
HBoot 1.30? Are you sure it is a Wildfire??
They had it labeled as the HTC dragon, yet when I asked the clerk he called it the HTC wildfire (He might have mixed up the names?). A quick search made me realize that both phones look alike. So now I'm left with an uknown phone lol.
In that case, I am pretty sure the applicable root methods will not work. What is the model number and details which are normally written under the battery? Also, what is the first line you see in HBoot? (Google shows HTC Dragon is the first device with a 1GHz processor which was later renamed and released as the Nexus One / Desire!)
Anyway, FYI, Wildfire's with 2.2.1 can be rooted using Revolutionary:
http://revolutionary.io/
But, I wouldn't try it out on another phone / a device it isn't designed for. It may just cause worse issues.
Sorry for the late replies, as I don't have the cellphone physically with me at the moment, and I'm also at work lol; Gf fetched the details for me, she wrote it as follows:
Phone Model: ADR6300VW ADR6225
Model: BTR6300B 3.7VDC 1300mAh 4.81Whr
Hboot: BEE DVT2 SHIP S-ON
It's a CDMA Wildfire? That's why it's different. I don't think HTC Bee's on 2.2.1 can be rooted ATM though. Also, there's no custom recovery for it yet.
Still a bit confused though, ADR6225 is indeed a code for the Bee (Wildfire), but I wonder why it shows ADR6300 which is actually a Droid Incredible...
I wonder if I can fight this, or report them to the authorities. I mean clearly they are using misleading ads (which from what I remember didn't even have the specs on, I had to do a quick google search) naming it the dragon, telling me the wildfire and then actually being a bee. Oh well thanks so very much for your help.
For the general end user (i.e. someone who just uses it as a phone), they are indeed the same, with the difference being that the Wildfire is a GSM device and the Bee is a CDMA device. But, because of that, their internals (esp. baseband) are different, which is why rooting and other modding stuff for these phones are completely different. Since the Bee is not so popular, there is hardly any stuff for it available ATM.
Well, good luck, hopefully you get things sorted out.
i have a htc one x locked to the 3 network, so far i have only had 1 update a couple of months ago which upgraded me too software number 1.28.771.9 this update cleared the htc sence crashing and at first worked perfectly, months have passed and slowly the charge time has gone right up, while charging and doing other basic tasks various battery monitors showed me it was reaching up to 60 degree's, the phone its self seems to stop looking for network a lot and unless i turn flight mode on/off again it will happily sit idle without network. Finally general battery life is terrible, just general web/facebook browing soon after charge can rapidly drain it. As far as im aware un-branded phones have had 3+ updates for the one x so im confused as to why i havent.

I don't know which country you are in but my HOX is locked to 3Sweden. The case in Sweden is that 3 has their ****ty thing that they implement their bloatware in every update, hence the slow updates. Anyways, I rooted my phone after a week and currently has ARHD installed, planing to install CM10 when it's good to go for daily usage. ARHD is an amazing ROM, and great battery life to go with that. I recommend to root your phone and install a custom ROM, otherwise you don't unleash the true power of the almighty beast!

It's popular for the wrong reasons in truth. Only because it is the only way at the moment. To not root the hox, is to have a Bugatti in the garage, or riding with it in town. It needs the racing tracks, the same for hox. The hox needs the rooting and modifying in order to be truly unleashed. Sad but true.
There is another update coming for 3 users there is a thread on it
I'm on the same as you 1.28 but don't have the problems you speak of!
Three UK are saying the 1.29 update will be out this week. Don't know if I believe them but we live in hope!
I have considered rooting as well but I don't want to give up my warranty. In the last few days I am getting the "loading.." message every time I use the home button (sense is crashing). I have had to use a different launcher to make my phone usable for now (and to avoid me throwing it at a wall). I am waiting for the 1.29 update to come then will probably factory reset it and see how it goes.
Good luck whatever you decide.

Hi I've also got a 3uk phone which I unlocked to all Sims usable, I'm also still only running v1.28 desperately waiting for three to bring out an update I'm having problems with memory disappearing, WiFi problems, my phone keeps over heating and speakers and head phone got this crackling noise. I'm really hoping this update which people say is coming this week will solve all 3 UK problems on there hox
I am on Three too (unrooted), and I am having none of the problems you talked about - although I have just sent mine to HTC to get the GPS sorted out.
I suggest you send yours off too, 1.28 or not your phone shouldn't be having those problems.

Hi according to HTC I voided my warranty because I sim unlock my phone which means that now I can't return it now for repairs.
Don't worry, that's not correct.
SIM unlock is fine, it's the bootloader unlock that they take issue with.

You can now use a SIM from any network -> SIM unlock.
