Hi I am currently on the hero and I wanted to know if the desire is worth or if you advise me to wait
Yes, it is worth to buy compare htc hero ... unless you want something else
Read the HTC Desire spec:
http://www.htc.com/www/product/desire/overview.html
And then compare it with your phone.
Well of course it is worth getting depending on the following factors.
1. You like the sense UI on your hero.
2. You are out of contract or due an upgrade or have the money to buy the phone sim free.
3. You are aware that there will probably be something better along in 6 months or so and would rather jump now then wait.
Keep waiting Every 6 months there will be new announcement, better hardware, better features, etc.
Then you will never buy a thing.
I could wait an Android phone with one of this:
- 4+ inch screen
- Snapdragon 1.3GHz or 1.5GHz
- Touch screen using ClearPad 3000
So, I think, HTC Desire is good enough, more than good in terms of OS and hardware.
Btw, if you curious about "ClearPad" Touch screen. It is the screen hardware that is used by all (CURRENT) HTC capacitive screen. It is not perfect, which you can probably heard issue with the Nexus One.
Explained here in much more detail:

Exactly what I say.. Problem is.. I keep buying each of these new phones every 4-6months.. Normally sell them on again for not much less than I originally paid for it.. But going to keep my HD2 this time.. Just so I can play around with some of the cool things that the xda guys make for win mob..
Just out of curiosity, how many of you are holding out on buying a new WP7 phone until 2nd generation? I know for the average user, these specs may seem amazing, but for the advanced/techy users, it seems under-powered.This is especially because they're using a 2 year old CPU when a more recent one that has better 3d performance and battery life is out in the market.
I, for one, will be holding on to my Touch Pro until 2nd generation WP7 comes out. Anyone have any idea when that will be?
would like to hold out, but the problem here is my touch pro's backspace, space, 1, tab, and fn key has basically died out on me
You should use the swype keyboard. I never went back to the physical keyboard once I started using swype.
tried it
don't really like it
i still prefer physical keys though
but yah, i'm looking to get the venue pro. but it seems to look like the tp's keyboard, and frankly, i do dread it a little
If i had a decent phone today i would wait for second gen, but i'm on an HTC Magic now, running Android 2.1 and everything is soooooooo slow i feel like throwing the phone into the wall. Can hardly scroll on this forum on the phone because it's so laggy.
Have set my eyes on an HTC Mozart.
I'll definitely be waiting for the 2nd gen. All the phones looks pretty ugly IMO, not to mention the old processors....and the AT&T selection sucks.
I'd like to wait, but my Fuze is on life support. As much as I would like for the specs to be better for this first gen of WP7 phones, they handily beat the Iphones specs and most WM phones. I am buying a gen one knowing that I will be buying a gen two next summer. I am considering my gen one as a 'get aquainted' with the OS phone while I hold out for a stunner in '11.
http://designfabulous.blogspot.com/2010/07/htc-1.html
Well, we can dream. HTC just needs to hire this guy.
I think people that hold out aren't as tech savvy sad they think.
Understand that android is optimized to run on various hardware specs. While windows phone 7 was designed for this specific hardware.
The same spec phone running both operating systems won't be comparible. The overall speed of wp7, the quality of the apps, and the games will be superior to android even after the dual core phones release.
The only thing that could bump the android back up is strong min specs of the new version of the OS and market apps that are only available to phones with those specs. Developers need to also commit to designing apps for a very small market of those top-of-the-line phones.
Those are the reasons why my rooted nexus one, car dock, and desktop dock will be on ebay within a month.
I love android, but I am always excite to test new things. After all, one could always ebay the phone and buy another extremely easily. I don't see any reason not to try wp7 unless you are locked into a contract and unwilling to buy an unsubsidized phone.
Nah I'm gonna get the HD7 as soon as my contract expires in late spring. Currently have the Moto Cliq with Android. If MS makes a Zune HD2, than I might think about getting a 64gb version of that and get the latest and greatest Android phone, Iphone, or Palm Phone.
Definitely not digging android anymore;
*sluggish, having to constantly kill apps and restart the phone
*Multiple OS fragmentation means I missing out on a lot of apps
*No app quality control (sick of buying an app thats sluggish or just plain buggy)
*No Easy Desktop Sync like Itunes or Zune
*NO AUTOMATICALLY UPDATING MUSIC PLAYLIST - A biggy for me.
Also I have a zune pass and hate having to convert my music just because Android doesn't play WMA DRM.
WP7 minimum specs aren't all that, but better than the minimum of Android which is still 528mhz processor for Android 2.1
The little angel sitting on the right shoulder is saying "Wait, wait!"
The little devil sitting on the left shoulder is saying "Get it, what are you afraid of? Offline Outlook Sync?"
Oh it is so hard!
But on a serious note, as soon as I am sure that it will Sync with Offline Outlook or I have a non cloud solution that I can trust, I will get it.
There isn't going to be an ideal phone for me in the first wave, but I'm gonna get one soon. Ideally I want the Dell Venue Pro but with Super AMOLED instead of AMOLED, and a MSM8255 SoC instead of the QSD8250's. But besides that, I think I will be happy with the Dell. "Dude, you're getting a Dell"
Also I really want WP7 to succeed. So in order to get a phone those next 2nd Gen phones with the Dual Cores and 32GB of memory, that means the 1st gen's need to succeed. So I'm gonna buy one to support my long term goals.
the QSD8250 has still more than enough horsepower to be used today. don't just look at what speeds and GPU does a processor holds but also take into the fact how well the OS utilizes the processor.
IMO its best to get the first wave. By the time the second wave hits (say this time next year), none of the apps/games will be fully utilising the power of the new processors anyway (since majority of WP7 handsets would have the QSD cpu and that'd be where the money for devs is). So you'll have all this power yet nothing to make use of it (basically like the Galaxy S). It'll take about 6 months imo til games start utilising the newer processors and run somewhat subpar on first gen devices.
So IMO that gives first-devices from launch about 18months of excellent performance, before it starts feeling 'old in the tooth'. By the time first gen buyers upgrade in approx. 24months, there'd be the third generation CPU's hitting the streets, and that'd be able to run second gen apps with ease, and the whole cycle starts again.
I'm definitely waiting until this gets jail broken. And if Htc comes out with a slide out keyboard for it. Not enough good phone options for me. When phones similar to the tilts come back wp7 has got my full attention then.
At the moment, I just can't justify giving up my HD2.
It'd be amazing if WP7 gets ported to the HD2 and I will, for sure, boot it up. I'm sceptical about some aspects of WP7 and so would like to see what impact (if any) these aspects have on my day-to-day usage.
If all goes well, then I will consider a WP7 device early next year. Hopefully, by then we'll have had a round of updates for stability issues (inevitable) and some missing features added.
So, in short, I think I'll hold out till wave 2 (or at least until the OS has settled a bit).

then you should wait for the htc 7 pro this looks amazing and i don't think it will be long before someone jailbreaks it.
Both
Gonna get the new WP7 phone out of the gate, for sure. Then I'll be in a great position to sit back and wait for a 'dream device,' which I'm not sure will make it out before the holidays next year. If it does, I'll get it, but if not I'll have gotten my money's worth with the phone I'm going to get shortly.
I have no choice but to wait. I am on Sprint, so I can't even begin to think about getting one until they release theirs. And "sometime in 1st half of 2011" is pretty vague. So for now, I have to sit back and read about everyone's experience.
So hopefully, I will be reading good reviews.

Microsoft updates WP7 so any exploits will be patched in record time.
You can prolly refuse the OTA, but it can suck if that fix is bundled with a fix/enhancement you need...
Clear ur jailbreak and get copy and paste, or go without? Lol...

That's a truth with some modifications. Yes, the 8250 is more than powerful enough to run the OS and any games/apps released for it - it is however not powerful enough to playback [most] HD video and this is the reason why I'm disappointed by the current wave of devices.
I have terabyte upon terabyte of [mostly] HD video stored on my server which I am unable to view on the phone without re-encoding them. This is a process I go thru at the moment with my HD2 and I was really looking forward to a little more horsepower in WP7 devices so I could simply import then rather than spend a lot of time re-encoding them first.
Personally, I have to get a 1st wave device for development purposes, but I very much doubt it will replace my current HD2 or Evo as the day to day phone. Not only for reasons of hardware but also due to lack of services offered locally (no localized bing search, no XBL integration, no 'full' marketplace, no Zune pass and the list goes on).
Hey,
is it a good idea to wait until next year (approx. Feb) for a new WM7 Phone from HTC, or not? I do not know, if there will be a better CPU or else. I know that Qualcom will bring a new CPU Generation but it will be in 2012. And for 2011 I read something about a 1,3GHz or a DualCore 1,5GHz CPU. Is it true? Is it worth the wait?
ne0n
There is always reason to wait. If you wait for 3-4 years more you even can get a WP8 with quad core 3Hz CPU.
Wait
Wait, while Windows Phone 7 is easier to use... they've limited it like an iphone... so u gotta use Zune, no easy internet sharing, no expandable memory, etc.
Also remember that Windows Update program on your mobile... when has Microsoft EVER issued an update on it. It's worth waiting till feburary to see if Microsoft do deliver on their promise to easily allow updating of the phone OS. Also to see if they've made is a feature rich as Windows Phone 6.5 (or even 5.1 ).
New phones will prob be out in Feb too... fingers crossed they have expandable storage as thats making Windows Phone 7 a 'no, no' for me straight away... plus I'm enjoying Remote Desktop and drag and dropping of audio/video files on my TouchHD still (something you can't do on Windows Phone 7 as it works like the annoying iphone system... your forced to put everything though Zune ....) . Zune is a great program but I don't wanna reencode vids etc or Microsoft forcing me to use a particular program... I thought only Apple do that!
Anywoo, i'm babbling. Wait till Feb- new phones, you'll have a better idea of what is hacked for us power-users, you'll know if Microsoft use their own phone update system or not, and if they add expandable storage... as it looks like they've removed removable storage to make it more likely you'll pay to use their 'Zune' monthly subscription to stream it over the internet.
@agentnobo
I know, this is the reason way I say until Feb 2011. I talk about a period of a few weeks. It will be very annoying to buy a new phone and in 5 weeks there will be a next generation or something else. As an example: It wasn't important to wait for a new Core 2 Quad becaus it will be 2,88GHz and not 2,66GHz but if you buy a C2Q and 4 weeks later Intel drop the new i7 Generation it will be annoying.
@acecooper
Thx

considering these phones just came out, I don't think you will see new phones in february. My guess is they may announce some things at mobile world congress but the phones probably won't make it to consumers until summer.
The phones are really fast with the current hardware. I don't see any reason to wait for new hardware right now unless you don't like any of the current phones.
I'd wait for the updates...
I'm waiting until after the promised updates arrive... I sent my Focus back to AT&T because of missing functionality and will wait to see if the issues are resolved with the updates.

Maybe to get better multimedia experience (like better photo and video shoots), as usual it is always a weak point of our beloved phones...
Lol @ February, isn't the first update coming in January?
Aren't the second batch of WP7 phones (the Blackberry type) or 'chassis 2' coming in Q1 next year.
I doubt the internal spec's will change.
I will probably wait longer.
As WM user I hardly imagine working with this devices at this state,
it's not available in Poland anyway.
Today my carrier gave me X10/Android and I'm also interested in trying this
but bummer: I have to have Gmail account to use it, which I don't have (horrid!)
Probably will see new phones coming out in 3-4 months. Hardware internals will not change(processor, etc...). I'd expect to see bigger and better screens and more memory...
The bigger thing you have to ask yourself if you like windows phone 7...personally I think it completely rocks...yeah it's missing a couple of features that they have to fix but they will. I've been told there will be an update the first 2 weeks of January and continually after that.
I think MS is on to a winner, they just need to do a better job at marketing (so far I'm shocked at how bad they are doing with all the money they have) and they need HTC to put up their a-game and not release the crap they have released so far...

Decent phones have good cameras.
Maybe you want 1080p video recording? Lol.
It's usually a weak point of the phonse becaue the phones are phones first, miniature computers second, and cameras/video recorders third.
Better to have a crappy camera than drop 20% of you calls, or have applications force closing left and right, eh?
Hello ,
Currently I am using LG Optimus 3d and looking at moving onto a galaxys Nexus , What i am basically wondering is should i upgrade now and take the upgrade to ice cream sandwhich or wait for a quad core phone coming q2 next year.
A friend will buy my LG for $400 and then i will need to contribute around 200-300 for the nexus. Is this a good choice , or a waste of money?
Thanks ,
jordan
This discussion has been made many times over the last couple weeks.
Only you can make this decision for yourself.

That depends. If you want sheer speed, you don't care about getting the latest updates the fastest, you don't mind having a phone with a custom skin pre-defined by the manufacturer (probably can be changed by changing launcher or flashing a rom) and you don't mind waiting a few months (or longer) for the quad core phones and if you game a lot: Get a quad core phone *which probably has a better gpu than the galaxy nexus*
If you like having the best updates the fastest, having ICS first, having a huge developer base and simply having a non-bloated launcher the answer is simple: Galaxy Nexus
My verdict: I'm getting the Galaxy Nexus as an upgrade from a Motorola Milestone. The phone can only be considered of viable quality if overclocked to 1GHz (from 550mhz) and have a lot of mods installed on it which in turn decreased the battery life significantly. I also live in Canada and since the Galaxy Nexus will be out for Bell early December I'm going to settle for that since I love customizing my phone, I want the ability to have a vanilla android, the hardware is likely to be very optimized for the hardware (+ theres hardware acceleration i think), there is likely to be a huge developer base and finally I want an upgrade for my phone and I don't want to wait 4-6 months for a new device with bloatware.
Note: I also wanted to point out that this is technology. There will always be something new around the corner (take computers for example this year sandy bridge, now sandy bridge E, then ivy bridge next year), you just have to be sure that you'll be set for a good duration of time (depending on your budget) with the phone you get. Also you can look here: http://www.theverge.com/2011/11/16/2565102/smartphone-buyers-guide
Edit: I would say your phone could last a little bit longer but its ultimately your choice.
As far as I'm concerned, a quad core nexus is at least 10 months away so the Galaxy Nexus is the easy choice. I've never had a phone nearly as good as my Nexus One, and extra cores aren't going to work a miracle for performance so IMO the GN will probably be the best phone until the Nexus 4.
Maybe not in certain areas (gpu, dual core), but as an all around well rounded, well supported good experience I'd take the GN before any phone ATM. My only issue is deciding whether to import from Europe or bite the bullet on the LTE version...
I'll go for whats available now, like what one of the post said, there is always something new around the corner.
the dual core is all you need now, although the quad cord sounds good on paper, but do you really need it, and there is really no need for it at the moment.
optimus porting ics really fast, all up to you if you want 720p?
you want 720p now then do the trade, if not keep your optimus 3d. its basicly the same thing but your not getting 720p. If i were you, i would wait for quad core, thats me tho.
And changing from a i9000 SGS1 is it worth? I listen to lots of music and watch videos, but i'm not sure if the change is worth.
Well i have an upgrade due next month and i have been trawling the web looking at new phones but dont know what to get.
Now ill not be going any bigger than lets says a samsung galaxy s11. Thats about as big as phone as i would get..
Ill be sticking to android but what brand does not bother me.
I have been looking at the htc one x, samsung galaxy s11 and the sony xperia s.
But im open to any option.
One thing the phone must have it good memory. More than the our Wonder has to offer.
well go look at here
I'm personally digging the HTC One series. As much as I love the One X, it may be too expensive for me and I think it's also on the bigger side that I'm sure you may not like as well.
The One S on the other hand are smaller and I would personally recommend it for you.
However, I don't think that now is the best time to buy an Android phone because there's not much choices out there for the newer generation of phones. Prices may drop when more newer phones are available on the market.
I'm rather interested at what the SGSIII specs will be when it is officially released.
Edit:
I'm sure 1GB of RAM would be enough for a lot of multitasking considering that we're doing okay with only 512MB(more like 150MB+) with the SGW. What concerns me though, are the fact that new phones like the HTC One series have non-removable battery and no external SD card slot. It would be a shame if all phones in the future has these.

Not worried about ram size, was internal memory was on about. But i see what ya mean by size of the phone. Also phone industry is always changing. You could by the best phone in the world today and in two weeks time something better is out. So im not to worried about that but as much as i hate samsungs strategy about there phones they make prob the best ones on the market.
SIII seems to be the flagship phone so and its ment to be released fairly soon..
Also price of the phone does not matter. On bill do most i think ill be payin is 200euro on the bill im on at the minute
My advice would be if you don't need the latest and greatest,go for the GS2.But if you are prepared to wait, hold on till the Samsung announcement next month and they will definitely announce a smaller device along with the GS3...I think they are calling it the I9300...it will have the latest Exynos.Personally,I don't quite trust HTC yet, already there are lots of reports of issues with the One Series phones.Sony is still playing catchup for now, still using last year's hardware.I think for a really good Android experience keep tabs on the next generation superphones from Sammy.

What provider you with snwman......
Like you can see, I am with Tesco Ireland...cheap and cheerful....but, shyte phones!!!
I actually also like cheap and cheerful in phones, so, if I mess up, no big deal....
I am waiting for delivery from Amazon, of T-mobile Vivacity[TMV], for the Missus, it was only about £100...maybe €125....
It is basically a T-mobile branded ZTE Crescent (Blade II)....
but, like with all ZTE, there is an active modding community, on Modaco....
already they have ICS ROM's CM9, and AOKP [Kang]....
ZTE are also going to introduce a big new line of reasonably priced ICS phones this year, so be on the look-out....
Chinese [ZTE] are going to rule the World...OK
My first Android was the original Blade[Orange San Francisco]....and it was, and is, a treasure, so easy to flash and mod, none of this Kies or ODIN stuff, really stock Android......no overlays, like TW.
Keep an eye out for cheap and cheerful Chinese produced phones, is my advice!!
Personally, I like the look and spec of this ZTE Mimosa X
2012 ZTE range
@Irishpancake I'm with meteor at the minute but can switch easily will look for the best deal.
I get impatient so I think I'll have to go try phones out. It's the end of may my contract is up so hopefully something comes up by then.
Be a hard choice. One thing is quad core phones necessary compared to a good duel core phone.
If you're not looking for the latest or fastest, I'd suggest getting something like the Nexus S or anything with Google Experience (or whatever you call it). I think it's worth because they most likely will have full support from google with the frequency of updates and everything.
I also remember reading something about Sony soon releasing source codes of their phones to the modding community so it's also something to take into account at least for me.
