[Q] does any one know how to set up sdk on ubuntu? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I already have downloaded sdk for linux but cannot find any instructions on how to install that plus correct drivers so that ubuntu recognizes my evo. Any suggestions please?

Click me if you want to install the Android SDK on Ubuntu Linux

From Android SDK site
http://developer.android.com/sdk/installing.html
I just went thru this yesterday. Need to install the jdk first.
I believe Ubuntu has the USB drivers and will recognize the phone when you connect it. It did for me.

[Q] USB tether

Hi all,
The cable/Internet went down for some time last, week so I thought I would try the USB tether... But I got a driver not found... (Wifi hotspot worked fine without any problems)
The computer is Windows 7 64-bit.
After some searching I found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=793102
And I fixed it that way, as in the instructions there. Thought I would make a note of it here, to save people the problem of searching.
Basically - I downloaded the USB driver from the Android SDK, then went into the inf-file and updated the vid/pid from what the device manager presented (under the amd64 section): VID_0BB4 PID_0FFE
I had to set this up on another computer, and I thought I would just package up the stuff, so that anyone else that needs this won't have to go through the same hassle (install Java SDK, set up Android SDK, download driver, edit install file...)
Attached here is the google-usb ADB driver from the SDK, as downloaded December 26th. The INF file is edited to support the HTC Vision (or at least the Desire Z).
Use Linux. :3

[Q] Correct (latest?) drivers/ADB for Vision

Hi guys
I did own a Sapphire/Magic back in the days and came back to Android after some skipping done during the last year. Back then installing usb drivers and adb was easy: plug in the Sapphire, point Windows to the drivers folder, done.
With the Vision/Desire Z it was much more complicated. I did use the old drivers from back then and ran into problems. Device manager had an ADB device listed, ADB couldn't find it though. Once I got it working in Android, it wouldn't interface with the recovery adb though. Once I got that working, it wouldn't show/mount the SD card anymore. Short: a huge mess.
Right now I have everything more or less working (still using the old drivers I used with the Sapphire) but it's not really right, I tried an RUU the other day and it would fail because my ADB/RUU ADB/Driver combination wouldn't match.
Long story short: where did you guys get your drivers from to interface the Vision with ADB/Fastboot?
Update the SDK ...this time its in platform tools. run the sdk update and download the usb drivers. Refresh your SDK.
If you don't want to do that...then install pdanet just to grab the drivers
Or go to cyanogenmod the drivers may be avail in a post from ciwrl in vision.dz download section.
All right, I'm d/ling the Java JDK as prompted by the latest SDK installer
Thanks!
I did this too (SDK + Platform tools) to get ADB/shell. However, I never got fastboot to work (even tried fastboot-mac). Not sure what I was missing, but flashing via SD (including radio) has been working thus far for me. Any recommendations on where to get more info on "fastboot" process, specifically on a Mac?
Hmm... you did notice that the fastboot binary is - at least on Windows - in a different folder than ADB, right?
On Windows its two different paths pointing to either ADB or Fastboot.

[Q] Computer won't recognize One X

Trying to root my phone...
I'm on a Windows 7 64 bit machine. I can't get Device Manager to recognize the device. It only recognizes "HTC Android Phone USB Device" under "Disk Drives".
The phone is in Charge Only mode
I am able to mount it as a drive
I've installed HTC Sync, and the uninstalled the software, not the drivers, to see if that worked (this was necessary with the Inspire 4G). Nothing.
ADB from the command prompt can't find the phone either
Any ideas?
Go into settings and developer options, enable 'USB Debugging' and it'll pick it up.
Make sure you have the Android SDK and Java JDK installed. Once that is done (you need the JDK installed before the SDK will install) open up the SDK manager and click on Install Packages. It'll put all the necessary drivers on.
You also need to set up Windows command path to accept commands from the SDK. Follow this guide and you should be fine...

usb drivers for windows 8 64

had trouble getting drivers for windows 8 64 to work when trying to flash ruu update. could not find drivers online or a thread on xda, eventually downloaded the google drivers from sdk, and they worked perfectly after manually installing them for the android phone and then again for the android 1.0 device when it boots to hboot.

ADB/Fastboot + SDK on Windows 8

I cant get SDK Tools running, installation keep saying Java JDK is not installed. (but it is)
Fastboot drivers wont even start installing. (and phone is not recognized in Device Manager which is main issue)
Did anyone managed to get it running on Windows 8?
Optionally i can get ubuntu but it would be kind of annoying to switch OS just to change hboot etc.
Edit:
Got SDK working using this: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Setting+the+JAVA_HOME+Variable+in+Windows
Edit2:
Got ADB Interface in device manager running aswell, more info here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24487308
Everything is running for now, maybe someone will need this. :good:

If you're getting a new pc, i recommend sticking to windows 7, mainly because of compatibility reasons.
