Hi All,
Just searching Youtube for WP7 vids posted today and I stumbled across this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RH1AvnhqMPc
I can't remember whether this handset was WM originally or if this was the Symbain one but it's an interesting video.
Is this new news, or have I found an old vid?
DC
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RH1AvnhqMPc
It depends, if this is the result of an actual port then this is news. We all know Microsoft has used the Samunsung Omnia HD as a prototype device to test WP7 on so if the video shows one of those devices, it isn't news.
The date of the vid says it's posted today so it would be weird that this is one of those prototype phones.
Good point about these being used a Microsoft prototypes. I'll assume that this is one of those rather than a port. I'm still at work, so I've only looked at teh vid without sound. There may be some sort of audio commentary on there, I won't know until I watch the vid at home.

No audio and I'm afraid it's one of those prototype devices cause it has a Windows button at the bottom.
well if someone finds a leak of that, it could be really cool!
Am I the only one noticing that the device has the 3 standard WP7 buttons?
Isn't that one of the early demo devices?

no you're not, fact is: if that's really a omnia HD with just different buttons, a leak of that could be used on an actual omnia HD, making it a great device even if with symbian is a ****ty one
Moving to General. PLEASE stop posting things that don't contribute to the development of WP7.
Thanks,

Well maybe this means that wp7 can be ported to similar devices.
Also, the i8910 is supposed to have a 360x640 display, which would make porting much harder. Even if they would get the OS working (I still think it something fishy about that video), the Apps would probably not scale properly to the new resolution.

Android OS - the Google OS
It would be funny if they called it the gPhone.
HTC Dream
I am very very very excited for this phone to come out. It will be running Googles OS called Android that will be Linux based. Most of the Android OS is open source and you can download the SDK pack here: http://code.google.com/android/download.html
The specs on the phone are unclear. I would recomend watching any of the videos of Android OS in action like this one.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOSk9TW7z-4
Also there are some Nokia phones with Android OS running on them over the top of WM6. I guess the biggest problem they have run into is supporting the kernal drivers when trying to port Android onto other handsets.
Dream...
im dieing to know if it will have a qwery keyboard and if it will run on 3G tell you the truth after messing around with a phone that runs on windows mobile i dont think ill ever buy a phone that dont run it... but this phone is an eye catcher so i think ill buy it just to try it out and see how things go from there. cant wait to see the spec's on this phone very excited to see the specs. question is how many of you guys are really gonna buy it? UPDATE: just finished watching the video on youtube wow this truly is an amazing phone... i must say.
Cannot Record Video
This super phone cannot record video, oh no, and just imagine yourself in a emergency situation, where you need to record a little video, that's one dream I don't want to have. Man, that would be more like a nightmare to me and they call this super phone the dream and it cannot record any video at all, yeah right..........!

Well if it has a camera and the ability to view video.. also being Linux based.. there has to be a workaround for this.. i also felt it was a disappointment not being video ready out of the box..
Cannot Record Video
I didn't know it couldn't record video This is the first I have heard of that. Oh well I am still going to purchase it so that I can test it out.
These are the only specs that have been released that I can find.
HTC Dream will apparently be rocking 3.6Mbps HSDPA, 128MB RAM / 256MB ROM, and a capacitive touchscreen (!) - all powered by a Qualcomm MS 7201A processor clocking in at a speedy 528MHz.
When do I ever record video as it is . . . . NEVER! haha

didn't you forget the "crystal clear uber quality HD WOWZZ!!! Blue-Ray!!!one!" of the playback?
....Seriously who really uses a cellphone to record anything, maybe it shows that i just don't care to waste my time with it but all the 3gp videos ive ever seen are complete ****. not to mention 90% of the photos ive seen taken on a cellphone are just trash.
This Phone Does Not Camcord Video!
Let me make myself perfectly clear, I'm not talking about 3 gp video web site, movies, YouTube video clips..ect or snap shots with the camera. Example, suppose you are in a accident, an emergency situation and you need to document the event with video, well with this phone you would not be able to do that, because this so call super phone does not camcord video, That's a dream I don't want to have, that would be a nightmare for me and for a lot of other people too.................!

I have not read any official statement that supports this claim.

Actually, Google's Android is the name of the operating system, not the phone.
The phones name is the Dream.
Unfortunately, this is something that also confuses the general public about the phone..
Those unofficial blog sites you refer are missing some other key features such as GPS...
We will find out the real truth when Tmobile or HTC release official specs.. Until then, its all still rumor.

Will not *have* or will not *come with* a camcorder feature? That's a bit like saying "You can word it any kind of way you want to, bottom line still, the DASH will not have WM6.1.....!" Fact is, you really don't know yet, because you're trusting blog sites that don't list sources and can't even spell "roll out" or "two" correctly.
All this negativity coming from someone who claims there's no limit to what he can make his current phone do...even surpassing the physical limitations of said phone. But when it comes to having an application written (even if delayed) that's well within a future phone's capabilities, you scoff? Truly amazing.
The thing about Android is that, being Linux-based, there's no overhead for potential developers to join the Microsoft club to develop software for the phone. The SDK has been available for a while now, giving interested people a jump at learning the internals of the new OS and trying their hands at coding applications for it. It can be downloaded and used in just a few minutes' time. Try that with WM or whatever Apple uses on that other phone. The vast majority are volunteers who do it for the challenge and the love of the code, not for pecuniary interest. Their work is freely released so that everyone has access to it and can modify it to suit themselves if need be. They don't hold their programs back and laugh at others who don't have what they do. Also, it will be so much easier to get simple apps that do one thing, and do it well. It should be a boon for end-users.
So whether or not the Dream actually ships with a camcorder application, it won't be long before it does get one. That's the beauty of a system where anyone with the know-how can write beautifully functional applications and get them to the masses for free (really free, not pirated-free.)
I like the way Beartard thinks.
It Still Does Not Change Things, No Video Recording On The Dream!
Guy, well said, still it does not change things with the current Dream, their will be no camcording feature, but I never said their would never be a camcording feature added to the Dream in the future.........!

they're also fakes. none of these UI's have ever been released. they're video clips made for entertainment purposes
Yup they only film it like it's an UI but actually they haven't released anything so it's just colourful ideas. If they make something that actually works would be better than their "dreams" on video that get a lot of people confused
Anyway, on the videos the UI looks damn cool, if any of them become available in the near future it will be nice to have them
Guys, TAT is not in the business to provide entire user interfaces, especially not for WM - ever heard of proof-of-concepts? Well Google and Nokia were impressed - if you hold a Android or Nokia FP2 phone in your hand you are using TAT technology. So check you facts before you put troll posts in this forum.
And what about this???
http://www.throttlelauncher.com/portal/Downloads/ThrottleLock/throttlelock-07
See the video!
if such a UI would be released, I wonder about the battery life with the camera constantly tracking and actively using the g-sensor to adjust the screen for holographic views.
isnt it about time they cranked up development for g-sensor appz?
which rom shoul be the best one to be used with ThrottleLauncher ?
i've made some test with the Energy on cooked for Android, but didn't work, maybe missing OpenGL driver dunno -.-
maybe try a HTC (not carrier) stock ROM with neos driverpack. never tried it myself but it should be lightweight and fast. but in terms of cooked ROMs, i dont think you can go wrong with topix (no need for driverpack then).
which is the one that i've on board ^_^
I just seen a demo/preview of the Windows 7 Mobile Operating System and I must say it looks very nice (take a look here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7IOTrqlz4jo)
I am curious if it could be used on the TP2/Tilt2 devices once its release in November?? If so, I am very excited.
Does anyone have any insight on this??
Thanks!

Until we can get a working version of 7 Series, I find this discussion pointless.
All we know is from one conference, and a bunch of videos demoing it.
From what we were told at the recent conference:
- Needs capacitative screen for multi-touch with at least four points of touch
- Needs 1Ghz processor or equivalent (the demo device had a Snapdragon)
- Accelerometer
- 5-mega-pixel camera
- FM Radio
- WVGA screen (480×800 not mentioned as a requirement, only WVGA)
- Every phone will have a Bing (search) button, Start button, and a back button.
What the Touch Pro2 is lacking:
- The 1Ghz speed
- Capacitative screen
- 5-mega-pixel camera
My guess is that it will not be a complete rewrite as history has shown time and time again. The restive screen code might still be there for some smart person to re-enable but I highly doubt that all the features of the OS will work through resistive. Also the screen size has not been listed as a requirement, only WVGA was stated. I know all current WVGA devices have a resolution of 480x800 but higher resolutions exist on paper. So at 480x800, is that enough?
My final thoughts: many will try but the screen and over all speed will be a major issue to deal with. If it does get ported to the TP2, the over all experience will be poor enough to fall back to a 6 Series OS.
i dont think it will be well received. it doesnt look like it runs any current windows mobile apps.
From looking at that youtube vid who cares if you can run it on a TP2! Why would I want to ?
Not very impressive. What's the bet it's the same old thing with a different gui ?

I couldn't help watching it and thinking "I don't see anything yet that I'm willing to pay $600 for." It looks nice, but I say wait and see how Microsoft turns it into a pile of crap...
Hey, maybe it'll come with glasses and be in 3D. Seems unlikely though.

I doubt very much that Windows Phone 7 Series will come to any older devices excpet for possibly the HTC HD2.
A big part is it requires a GPU for the animation, and unless WP7S has drivers for the TP2 (if the GPU is even good enough) your not gonna get anywhere.
Also Capacitive will be a stumbling block. There will be plenty of new phones out that will run it very well. So it will be a perfect time to upgrade to a CPU that is atleast 1Ghz.

As you've seen, Redmond anticipated your wish, and officially granted it a few days ago lol.
I should probably state my position on this a little better than I first did:
While I don't argue that this new OS is indeed advanced (perhaps even revolutionary), and seems quite capable at what it does...I still feel strongly that this is not the spiritual successor to the current evolutionary path of the windows mobile platform. I know that's why they played semantics with the marketing name, tagging it with the "7" as if it was the next logical step from 6.5...when in reality it's only a timely branding tie-in to the success of the desktop 7.
Let me put it this way...if the desktop 7 had been a flop, they would have called this new gadget The ZunePhone, because it's that much more than it is WinMo7.
Can I see a show of hands for who else is seriously concerned that what we love most about WM is not likely to be around for very much longer...? I know there's been remarks made that 6.5+ will still be supported, developed for, etc...but until I see some confirmed roadmaps and such, I still think the natural life expectancy of my platform of choice looks a lot more finite than it did a little over a week ago.
EDIT: Right after I wrote that, I found some news that makes me feel a little better about some of this

Actually, I'm old enough to think of a different comparison:
Years ago Coke came out with "New Coke" with a new taste -- more like Pepsi...and the backlash was so strong that they had to bring back the original recipe as "Coke Classic" in parallel with New Coke.
Unfortunately, I think MS is trying to attract the majority of potential customers who don't [think they] like WM...so they're coming out with something that's not WM.

I'm pretty sure that you'll be able to do this, from what I've read already. Plus, think about what you mean when it comes to multitasking because it means different things to different people.
STOP BELIEVING things that have no evidence behind them.
MS has NOT said that multitasking won't exist.
MS has NOT said that backwards compatibility won't exist.
MS has NOT said much more than the little said earlier this week. Stop believe what WMexperts has told you, it turns out MS was just taking you for a ride with those rumors.
Stop being an idiot and wait and see what happens when it comes to the release date.
You guys are basing your opinions on what you saw 8 months before the actual release of the product. THINK ABOUT IT. Just because your dumbass thinks this and that about a premature product, doesn't mean anything. STOP jumping to conclusions. It's really making you look dumb. MS is not going to sit there demoing a new product and talk about copy and paste. Why would they? Ohhhh, because SOOOOOO many people care about that in the world. I appreciate copy and paste and backwards compatibility just as everyone else does, but the truth of the matter is, you just don't know anything about Windows Phone 7.
Hey guyz just check out the video running windows phone series 7 here

This could just be a trick performed with remote desktop. Look:

But who knows, could be the real deal
Hmm. yeah even I thought so when I got a tip off from people at HTCPedia. But this Diamond has really moved us a bit due to certain reasons which we are ofcourse going to discuss..
But I am quite hopeful that be it anything we at XDA will find a solution to it
Obviously fake, you can see where parts of the frame are drawn before others as ALWAYS happens with remote desktop. This would not happen if the phone were simply slow.

Think the speed of boot suggests it's definitely running from SD card... like Android at the mo.
Also no HTC hub - bloatware I know but it's oh so pretty!
Anyway great step forward and surprisingly smooth for an initial port. I think from this video it is pretty clear this is not fake and is not a theme as well....
I also don't think this is a fake port, and to tell the truth, even if it is, bring it on anyway, I have never seen any fake thing running this smooth and would like to try it anyway.
This only looks to be an old port, not a fake one.
Great work.

I do not think it is running from SD card cus the boot text is in the top corner where normally it would be in the bottom corner. Also if it was running from sd card it would have to be lauched from within winmo 6.5. So it looks like a nand boot.
This is real, but is a VERY old beta version that was designed for testing on the HD2, they abandoned it as it is missing the hardware graphics acceleration. You won't see much higher than this on the HD2

Pure speculation..... all we've seen are some very convincing videos that are most likely not fake. We still don't know who is behind all this porting and the exact details of what has been done.

It would be nice to be able to boot into it to play around with... as long as it doesn't copy over winmo on nand. Also hopefully they can find a way around this or find a way to side-load apps.

This is such an old build that any way they find will probably be patched or completely replaced/done away with in an RTM build.

All we need now is just to manage how to boot the wp7 on hd2 (never mind which version), and then we can boot whichever wp7 on it, even a cooked one, it will means better than original one! End!
PS: we can also get all drivers from hd7, the twin brother of hd2... if hd7 could be updated, its' rom will also could be dumped and ported to hd2. so, if you want to stop it, just don't put hd7 in to market! ahhhh... it's too late...
