I have a Class 4 SD card of 8 gb. I read that an sd card of greater speed can match the NAND in terms of speed thus letting you have your Android rom run as fast as if it were installed on nand.
If that's so, what class of sd card equals the speed of nand?
Thank you.
class 6 is the best
My class 4 SD form SunDisk (4 GB and 8 GB) are very fast even if not the fastest!!!
They excedeed class 4 specification a lot and when I did tests using
Card Speed, a WinMo software, I found it comparable with class 6 specification.
When I put Android on NAND I didn't got real speedups...

Hi,
I've been following the discussion on faster IO here by mounting extra stuff back on the SD card. I believe that to take advantage of this a faster microSDHC card can only help.
My card is a SanDisc 16GB Class 2 job, I just transferred it from my old N97 mini.
Looking around I noticed that generally the fastest is a class 6 although Kingston now seem to produce a class 10.
Of course Class increase == $$ increase.
I noticed that one site mentioned low speeds with a class 6 when using a benchmark tool, SD Card Speed Tester from the market.
Of course I just had to download it and see what my lowly class 2 card would do.
B***dy H*ll it exceeded class 6 cards and achieved:
Write Speed is 9MB/s
Read Speed is 15MB/s
Screen shot attached.
So my question is, how likely is it that it really is a fast card or just that the BM tool got it wrong ?
the "class" mentioned is actually the minimum r/w speed rated for the card, and branded cards often have speeds exceeding the rated class easily, so yeah, it is a fast card, no doubt
Thanks,
This was a "bounce my thoughts" type of question. You've confirmed my thoughts.
Just as a sanity check I later tried my other class 2 card, a 4GB job that came with the phone. It was 3-4MB/s write. That improved my confidence that the SD speed app was producing reasonable results.
Hi there
i bought a A-DATA 16GB SDHC Card to improve my performance, but it seems to me that this card isn´t class 10 ,..
i tested with AnTutu System Benchmark and it told me
SD Card Write 7.4MB/s
SD Card Read 12.7MB/s
Could anyone with a Class 10 Card post here his scores and the brand (kingston, sandisk, etc.)
Thanks
Mine more or less has the same speeds and it's class 2. I bought it from play.com and it;s their own. That might be able to put it into context for you. Also, if you using A2SD then you can get away with class 4 or class 6 for DATA2SD.
...
Thx for your reply, but i m a little bit dissapointed that after over 100 views, no one posted his scores with an class 10 card or a different one.
so i cant be sure if the card is fake or not but i think so because your calass 2 card get similar results.
hope that someone can point it out with his results.
thanks to any help / result.
i really miss a micros sd/sdhc card review with recommened cards for the desire.
Gonna receive that very same card in 24/48h, gonna let you know my speed for reference!
It's said that the class level is actually measured by the block size of 8k, not the max speed.
ok just done mine 16gb class 10
results as follows
SD Card Write 12.9MB/s 129
SD Card Read 15.4MB/s 154
total score was 1696
whatever that means i dont jknow but i hope this helps

I get SD Card Write 5.4MB/s and Read 15MB/s on my SanDisk Class 2 card.
Are you guys getting speed using phone app? Which one? Did you also try in your computer maybe?
@teorouge
Read first Post, ... Antutu System Benchmark ... with this free app in market you can test your phone but the main part for me is the memory card writing/read Speed test.
@gav12345
Which brand is your sd card ? kingston, sandisc, transcent,... ? Please let us know, because there is a huge difference between your class10 and mine.

Please be aware that actual read/write speed deppends on applications and data2sd / app2sd scripts running. Anyways, A-DATA class 10 16gb is a very good card.
Maybe the card-reader in the Desire isn't fast enough. Anybody knows which class the card-reader is?

ok,
so i bought an 8gb kingston micro sd card, tested it with hw id and got 8mb/s write speed,
partitioned the card using gparted (allign to mib) with a 1gb ext and the remainder as fat32,
used sd card tester on my desire and it says write speed is 3mb/s or under,
so i tried sd speed increase set to 2048kb, atill 3mb/s or less write speed,
any ideas?
He,
I got also a Kingston 8GB Class 10 in my Desire (1GB Ext4 & Rest Fat32).
My speeds just for your ref.: 6.2MB/s writing, 16.4 MB/s reading with 2048kb.
I tried nearly every setting in SD speed increase but could not get over 6.x MB/s
---edit
just saw that we are running the same ROM (same kernel). maybe its ROM related as I also not have full 10MB/s? or its the SD card?
well i reflashed the rom without repartitioning the card and now im getting 6mb/s write speed,
better but still not as good as when i test the cards speed on my pc,
im not that worried about improving read speeds, i was just hoping that the faster write speed would solve some of the video recording lag i am getting,
maybe the cards you guys bought is not genuine but a chineese replica. you know how many fakes ciculate in market.
I have class 4 Sandisk 16gb card and I get 5mb writing speed. 12mb reading...
if a class 10 card has 6mb then I would doubt either the Testing software or the genuineness of the card

but when i do a speedtest from my pc via a card reader i get 8mb/s when i test the same cards speed in my phone i get 6mb/s, where does the 2mb/s go?
Try formating the cards on a pc. Full format/ factory condition. Then insert them on a stock rom phone to test the speeds. It's the only way to check them and be 100% sure.

SD speed reports my pny 8gb class 10 as writing at 8mb/s and reading 28 MB/s.
I have a 1gb ext4 partition after a 6.5 gb odd fat32 partition. Currently running leedroid latest R5 HD Rom.
Got it from play.com

Did you try this tutorial?
Hey guys, I'm currently using a class 2 sd card with data2sd. My phone lags like hell because all the apps are stored in the sd card partition. I was planing to buy a class 6 card. Would that stop the lagging that is happening now? or should I go and get a even higher class?
Class 2 is way too slow for data2sd. Actually its even slow for link2sd.
Data2sd requires minimum class 6 card for average performance.
There isn't much price gap between a class 6 and a class 10 card.
If I was you, I'd go for a class 10 card even if it costs a little more. That'd be worth it.
Hey, has anyone used UHS-1 compatable sd card, I was thinking of buying Samsung MicroSDHC 16 GB Class 10 Evo.
Presently I use Scan Disk Class 4 , which give Read/Write speed as 15.07/5.01 on A1 Sd Benchmark tool
Please post your card details and read write speeds.
My main aim is to be able to play games without lag while using folder mount
I own Kingston 16gb class 10 UHS-1 and it is running normally, in comparison to Kingston class 4 4gb it is lightning speed according to Antutu, since i got higher grade
