class 10 micro sd 3mb/s write speed??? - Desire General

ok,
so i bought an 8gb kingston micro sd card, tested it with hw id and got 8mb/s write speed,
partitioned the card using gparted (allign to mib) with a 1gb ext and the remainder as fat32,
used sd card tester on my desire and it says write speed is 3mb/s or under,
so i tried sd speed increase set to 2048kb, atill 3mb/s or less write speed,
any ideas?

He,
I got also a Kingston 8GB Class 10 in my Desire (1GB Ext4 & Rest Fat32).
My speeds just for your ref.: 6.2MB/s writing, 16.4 MB/s reading with 2048kb.
I tried nearly every setting in SD speed increase but could not get over 6.x MB/s
---edit
just saw that we are running the same ROM (same kernel). maybe its ROM related as I also not have full 10MB/s? or its the SD card?

well i reflashed the rom without repartitioning the card and now im getting 6mb/s write speed,
better but still not as good as when i test the cards speed on my pc,
im not that worried about improving read speeds, i was just hoping that the faster write speed would solve some of the video recording lag i am getting,

maybe the cards you guys bought is not genuine but a chineese replica. you know how many fakes ciculate in market.
I have class 4 Sandisk 16gb card and I get 5mb writing speed. 12mb reading...
if a class 10 card has 6mb then I would doubt either the Testing software or the genuineness of the card

but when i do a speedtest from my pc via a card reader i get 8mb/s when i test the same cards speed in my phone i get 6mb/s, where does the 2mb/s go?

Try formating the cards on a pc. Full format/ factory condition. Then insert them on a stock rom phone to test the speeds. It's the only way to check them and be 100% sure.

SD speed reports my pny 8gb class 10 as writing at 8mb/s and reading 28 MB/s.
I have a 1gb ext4 partition after a 6.5 gb odd fat32 partition. Currently running leedroid latest R5 HD Rom.
Got it from play.com

A-DATA SDHC 16GB Class 10 Card

Hi there
i bought a A-DATA 16GB SDHC Card to improve my performance, but it seems to me that this card isn´t class 10 ,..
i tested with AnTutu System Benchmark and it told me
SD Card Write 7.4MB/s
SD Card Read 12.7MB/s
Could anyone with a Class 10 Card post here his scores and the brand (kingston, sandisk, etc.)
Thanks
Mine more or less has the same speeds and it's class 2. I bought it from play.com and it;s their own. That might be able to put it into context for you. Also, if you using A2SD then you can get away with class 4 or class 6 for DATA2SD.
...
Thx for your reply, but i m a little bit dissapointed that after over 100 views, no one posted his scores with an class 10 card or a different one.
so i cant be sure if the card is fake or not but i think so because your calass 2 card get similar results.
hope that someone can point it out with his results.
thanks to any help / result.
i really miss a micros sd/sdhc card review with recommened cards for the desire.
Gonna receive that very same card in 24/48h, gonna let you know my speed for reference!
It's said that the class level is actually measured by the block size of 8k, not the max speed.
ok just done mine 16gb class 10
results as follows
SD Card Write 12.9MB/s 129
SD Card Read 15.4MB/s 154
total score was 1696
whatever that means i dont jknow but i hope this helps

Are you guys getting speed using phone app? Which one? Did you also try in your computer maybe?
@teorouge
Read first Post, ... Antutu System Benchmark ... with this free app in market you can test your phone but the main part for me is the memory card writing/read Speed test.
@gav12345
Which brand is your sd card ? kingston, sandisc, transcent,... ? Please let us know, because there is a huge difference between your class10 and mine.

Please be aware that actual read/write speed deppends on applications and data2sd / app2sd scripts running. Anyways, A-DATA class 10 16gb is a very good card.
Maybe the card-reader in the Desire isn't fast enough. Anybody knows which class the card-reader is?

Regarding Micro SD card

Hello...
I have a SanDisk 4GB class 4 micro SD card that came with HTC desire. I installed one of those ROMs that support Data2SD, and it was fast without lagging (actually, super fast).
I bought a Kingston 8GB class 4 micro SD card to replace it with the SanDisk, and installed the same ROM, but I noticed an annoying lag during the normal use, as an example, just after booting to the home screen, when I enter Settings, it lags for like 5 seconds (that NEVER happened in the SanDisk 4GB card). It also lags on different application such as when launching the web browser (a pause for 7 seconds, and again, that didn't happen with SanDisk).
I bought another card, this time Imation 8GB class 4, but it gave me the same results as the Kingston!!
I did a test on the three cards using H2TESTW, the results are as follows:
SanDisk 4GB Class4 --> Write: 4.5 MB/s Read: 11.3 MB/s
Kingston 8GB Class4 --> Write: 4.4 MB/s Read: 18.3 MB/s
Imation 8GB Class4 --> Write: 4.5 MB/s Read: 18.5 MB/s
They all share the same speed in writing, but the Kingston and Imation are faster in reading! which confused me! They both have faster reading speed than the SanDisk BUT lag annoyingly during the normal use!
To be very clear, I tried the Imation card with a ROM supporting App2SD not Data2SD, and it ran smoothly with no lags, but once Data2SD is there, it starts lagging! (I know that Data2SD ROMs are slower than App2SD, but I swear, the Data2SD on SanDisk is FASTER than App2SD on Kingston or Imation).
One more thing, I tried various partitioning for the 8GB cards, with and without swap (swap was always 32M) but with no luck to improve the performance.
If anyone has a logical explanation for this case please let me know, and if there is a certain fix for that (I don't know if increasing the swap size for the 8GB due to their higher capacity would help) please share it here.
Thank you.
Are you by any chance using starburst? Try the newer xe and we scripts on the beta section.they should eliminate lags for slower cards
Swyped with my Starburst based Desire. Forgive any typos!

But it seems that the both of the 8GB cards that I have are faster than the 4GB card, then why are they slower in ROMs?!!!

Well, from what I understand, 4gb are faster in real life than 8gb, all proper tests show that, look up test charts in Google. I believe its because it takes more time to search for info over the larger space. I'm only speculating on that, as I don't know this for sure.

Well, that is what I thought of too, take -for example- 500GB hard disk drive, it will take much time to scan than a 120 GB drive, which is logic.
I will do more research on this thing and will post back.
Thanks.

Big difference in writing speed of 32GB Class 10 sd card between FAT32 and NTFS

I got a Samsung 32 GB Class 10 microsd card today and formatted the it into NTFS in Windows 7, and copied a big file, the speed met the nominal value about 13 MB/s. But I found out later that android does not recognize NTFS format. Therefore I reformatted the card into FAT32 in Galaxy S2. But when I copied the same file into the card under Windows 7, the writing speed decreases to about 5 MB/s. Later I used the app called "SD Card Speed Tester" to test the speed, it told me the card is a Class 6 card!!!
Is there anyone having the same problem? The only solution I can come up with is to format the sd card into ext2 and try again. Can anyone tell me how to do it with the phone, is there an app for that?
Thank you in advance!
I'm sorry to be the one telling you this but you might gotten a fake one...Where did you buy your sd card?
I bought it from a German company. Nevertheless, I just test the card (still with FAT32) with the original SD adapter under Windows 7, the writing speed is about 10MB/s, which is more close to the nominal value. So I think it is the problem between GS2 and the card.
Any idea to format the card with ex2 by GS2?

You should see better performance with NTFS, that is normal. Still, your speeds are unusually low.

Finally, I test the card with adapter under Windows 7 on my laptop using h2testw for NTFS and FAT32 format, both of them have the same performance, about 10 MB/s for writing. And I also inserted the card with FAT32 format in milestone, the writing speed is still about 5 MB/s, I did not test with NTFS format.
The card costs me 30 euro, and it functions normally with adapter, so I don't bother to return it. However, I am warning you guys, do not buy SAMSUNG 32 GB Class10 sd card, it can only achieve around 5 MB/s with FAT32 format.
Derp.
If you can fill the card it's not a fake, the only problem here is your expectations from the i9100's sd card reader.

Class 10 UHS-I cards on Desire?

I am thinking of getting SanDisk 16GB Mobile Ultra Class 10 UHS-I Micro SD SDHC like that one.
I know I will not reach 10 Class speed but I need to replace my current card and this is the only thing I found from SanDisk.
Can I expect it to perform flawlessly with HTC Desire?

I am using the same card as well, and it works perfectly. With full class 10 speeds as well.
I am using this as well... No problem at all... Getting much faster speed..
Thanks all. The reason I need to change my sd card is because right now I have a Samsung 8GB Class 6 which is fast enough in transfers but slow in initialisation and newer ICS/JB roms can't even detect it.
What rom are you using with this card?
has anybody noticed a performance increase while using a UHS-I card compared to class 10 or class 6.
Desire needs sd with high IO because of the low internal memory. Now the question, which cards have higher IO? Class 6 or 10 or UHS-I?
Im using a 16 gb uhs class 10 and no issues at all

Well, I got my own card and indeed it is working perfectly fine.
Would putting a swap partition on it decrease its lifespan noticeably?
have someone tried the 32gb class 10 version? does it work well with int2ext+ or m2sd?

"Mobile Ultra" is class 6 and "Ultra" is class 10. I don't know if there are any other differences apart from speed.
The link you gave is actually selling an "Ultra", although the title is "Mobile Ultra"
Note, I would never buy an SD card on ebay because of the number of fakes (especially Sandisk apparently)
You can get 16GB "Mobile Ultra" on Amazon for £11.45, ie same price as ebay.
Or a 32GB "Mobile Ultra" on Amazon for £22.99
Or a 32GB "Ultra" on Amazon for £18.54
No, I don't know why the class 10 is cheaper than the class 6. However... "class 6" just means that's the minimum guaranteed speed, it might be faster.
NB from what I've read, most class 10 cards don't work on the HTC Desire at all, but some do* However I've also read that internally the Desire can't read at more than 6mb/s whatever you put in there.
*People seem to have success with ADATA 16mb class 10, but someone else said their SanDisk 10 worked, whereas others say the same card didn't work. YMMV

BUT from what I've read, the HTC Desire will accept a class 10 card, but only has a class 6 transfer bus, so it can't use it any faster anyway.

Not quite right since all sandisk mobile ultra micro sd cards are UHS-1 class cards fastest cards faster than class 10.
They run at double the frequency in a UHS-1 compatible device.
Will still work in the desire just much slower. I get around class 10 speeds from my 8gb .mobile ultra

That's interesting. It would explain why they're more expensive than the class 10 cards. But if you look at this amazon page, it's listed as class 6, which is confusing.
All this talk about speed and class isn't worth much to any a2sd script.
Class system is about sequential speed I.e writing a large file and you'll get the class speed.
Writing loads of small files and I doubt you'll get your class speed.
Plus the apps on your ext4 partition could well be reading and writing from both you fat32 and ext4 partition on your SD card slowing the whole thing down.

I suppose the hope is that the higher the class the higher the random read/writes as well as sequential speeds.
But the random write performance measured on Tom's Hardware isn't encouraging (November 10, 2011 so not very current unfortunately, but maybe shows that a class 4 SanDisk isn't to be sneered at)
I was using SanDisk class 4 sd card with InsertCoin-1.1.4 Rom. After upgrading sd card to Kingston class 10, it's really improved the performance of the same Rom.

[Q] sd card class 10 speed makes difference on speed of int2ext/m2sd scripts?

i have a kingston class 10 sd card but i feel it is not really a genuine class 10 card.. my speed on sd card tester(on market) is only 1.8mb/s write speed and 10.03mb/s read speed
my question is if i buy a true genuine sandisk micro sd class 10 card.. will it speed up my applications using int2ext/m2sd or any a2sd scripts? actually what is the speed of the internal memory of the htc desire?

ok mine must be fake then! will buy a sandisk one from ebay(anyone has a good experience buying microsd on ebay.. everyone seems to say they are all fake... even the trusted buyers sell fake ones?)
AFAIK Desire supports only Class 6, so your Class 10 SD will work as 6.
You will achieve Class 10 speeds only copying with USB from PC for example.

I doubt you'd get class 10 even through the USB.
Best way to check SD card speeds is to put it in a card reader and into laptop or PC.
Checking through the HTC desire is useless as speeds can vary.
I've just tested twice with sdcard tester and got 10mbps and 3.7mbps

Yes you get full speed thru usb as it's not using Desire onboard sd controller...
If you're not getting full speed it might be ROM issue for example.
