Screen on Mozart & Trophy - Windows Phone 7 General

I know they differ in size being 3,7" and 3,8" but i thought they both had S-LCD screens!? Now i have read comments and reviews here and there where people are saying that Trophy only has a regular TFT LCD. Is this true? I have pre-ordered a Trophy but i really want it to have an S-LCD.

I think its a S-LCD display.

I mailed HTC and got this reply:
"
Dear *********,
Both have Super LCD.
Sincerely,
********
HTC"
Some people that's been testing them side by side says Mozart has better black levels and more vivid color but i guess the settings must have been different on the two phones.
Now i can keep my order for the Trophy. I'm just wondering when it will arrive!?

It's probably a cheaper screen. The Trophy is a much cheaper phone, Vodafone are able to offer it at a good £10-15 a month less than the other networks are offering their WP7 handsets. We already know the build quality and camera aren't as good as the Mozart so it really wouldn't be a surprise to find out that the screen isn't either.
Personally it doesn't bother me. The Trophy is cracking value for money. It feels really nice in the hand and personally would be my second pick after the Dell (the Omnia is pretty awesome too, but I didn't think it felt all that great to hold). The Mozart is probably my least favourite on account of the broken camera.

Is it true that the display of Mozart have more vibrant colors than the display of Trophy and it looks then better than the Trophy one?
Thanx.

i can compare my mozart's screen to my previous galaxy i7500 amoled screen, and i cannot see any difference

I learned from elsewhere Trophy changed screen material.

Wow, looks interesting
It looks that the European version have brighter display but worse viewing angles... Am I right?

I think it's the later manufactured one not getting a SLCD display.

Youre probably right. I think that its true that Mozart have better display and Trophy have only TFT LCD display.

my family household has both the Australian Mozart and Australian Trophy and I can confirm that the Mozart screen seems a bit more crisp. That said, it's only slightly more depth of colour, nothing that you would say would wreck the experience if you had the trophy.

TP3

i remember when looking for a new phone that around jan this year the first details of the tp2 came out and from then on we got to see more videos etc of it from phone shows
can we expect the same in jan2010 for the TP3
for me if they make it slightly slimmer with the spec of HD2 then i think it would be perfect
no way should they tamper with the keyboard
heres hopeing jan 2010 brings us our first look at the tp3
how about touch pro 3 with a capacitive touchscreen that supports multi-touch?

I kind of doubt it. They still have a lot of money to make on the TP2. I guess the timing wouldn't be that different compared to where the TP1 was in its lifecycle, but that device seemed spent much sooner to me--it also sticks out a little in the product line as the TP2 probably is more of a tytn III than a TP2. I think we'll see the first leaks on a TP2 + snapdragon in late spring or summer. There might even be an inclination to delay it for a rollout with winmo7.
On the other hand, an HD2 Pro could be justifiable before then. I suspect the distinction doesn't make a difference to you, but a device with a 3.6" screen really is in a different category than a device with 4.3" screen. I'm not totally sure what that category would be exactly. Business for people looking for an OQO replacement? Multimedia for people looking for a better video player/gaming experience? Big-handed people?
HERE at the bottom of the page. But a keyboard and a tilt mech on the HD2 and I am in. Dont get to excited though when you look at the specks you'll know why
I can´t see this as an upgrade for our TP2
Ok, yes it has a slightly faster processor but with smaller screen! WQVGA...no way!
I don´t think we will see a real upgrade for Rhodium till 2011
So let´s enjoy Rhodium!!!

I think HTC was targeting the n97 mini with this one. Although I think the n97 mini has the same resolution as the n97.

The first WM7S prototype phone from LG, with a full keyboard [with video]

Not much information at the moment, apart from the standard headphone jack, 5 megapixel camera and the usual three button configuration.

The guy from Microsoft refused to answer a direct question: "Is the HD2 getting the upgrade?", his answer was "Come to MIX"
very ugly hd2 is the best
Cool ... but how big is the screen?
3.7" .... ?
It looks smaller ...

HD2 MAKES THIS LOOK LIKE A MOUSE... i believe hd2 will get upgrade
From what I see is that LG already has the Software..
and the HD2 looks 1000% times better!!!
The front reminds me of the enV Touch, but it's pretty nice overall. The keyboard is meh, not quite as nice as the TP2's, seems decent.
Nothing amazing design-wise, but we are still questionable with these specs.
What is that screen size though???
Unless my eyes are completely deceiving me, it really doesn't seem that big: 3.2", 3.4" maybe??
I don't recall a physical size minimum, and it is really not necessary.
Yes, the HD2 looks nicer, but it is a different style phone.
Remember we still have hardware choices with WinMo.

Didn't HTC say it was going to get the upgrade?
I love looking at all the new cell phones. I haven't liked LG because the quality hasn't been good in the past. HTC is my favorite and before them, HP.
I don't think I'd ever buy an LG product..it'll have to be HTC or nothing, hopefully I can just upgrade my TP2 (I know, I know, it may be too slow..but we'll see!) I'm surprised this has a keyboard..that is a must have for me and everyone I talk to says they are "out"..guess not!

Some grunt in their Russia tech support dept "announced" that a while back. HTC head office immediately issued a statement saying this was incorrect.
very simple phone (old styled)
He looks like as LG Monaco but the buttons are new(search, windows flag, back) maybe it is Monaco but created for wp7s?
actually i like the style and especially the keyboatd layout. curious about how the next htc wp7s phone will look like.
I'll be waiting on the Touch Pro3 or whatever they decide to call the next landscape slider.
and where can we download this leaked rom LOL .

Its actually interesting you say that, Windows Phone 7 Series may not be possible on the HD2 because of the actual button configuration.
Guys/Gals, please see post #28 via this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=637919&page=3
Let me know your thougts/opinions.
Thank you.
I don't like this phone too. It's typical LG-phone and there is nothing new in the phone.
It's really ugly. Can't wait for the first HTC WP7 phone (with a qwerty)
what is with WP7s and the words coming off the screen???? they are trying to be trend setters but it just looks tacky and unfinished!

T9 Multi tap Input?

Does anyone know if this is supported (old style 'real keys' texting)?
Like the image in this site (5th one down).

I've never had an Android phone before so I don't know if it's QWERTY only, many thanks for the help!
I have done a search but can't find anything, plus for some reason the XDA side goes a bit 'wonky' on my work computer (links/image/searches` not showing).
You get 3 Options (much like on windows mobile) :
1) Full QWERTY (which works absolutely great btw)
2) Mini QWERTY (like on the blackberrys)
3) Keypad/T9
I would highly recommend the swype keyboard.
As a G1 owner I was convinced I wasn't going to get a phone without a real keyboard untill I used it - and it's only because I find it so easy to use, and fast, that I am now going to upgrade to the Desire.
See I went from a 'normal' phone to the X1 so I'm used to a 'really' keyboard or T9 multi tap and was worried about not being able to text correctly!
The other question I have (not really related to the keyboard) is about the resolution difference between the Desire and the Legend.
I prefer the look of the Legend and it's size however after having an x1 with it's high resolution (though tiny 3" screen) I'm worried that I would find the Legends lower resolution inferior to the x1, which had naturally lead me to the Desire, however I'm concerned about the overall size.
What do you guys think, does HVGA look rubbish on a 3.2" screen or is it fine compared to the like of the Sony Ericssons x1 3" WVGA?!?

Obviously, the pixel density is significantly higher on the X1 compared to the Legend so you will notice a difference. I suppose the best thing for you to do is to go to a store and play with the Hero which has the same screen size and resolution. See if that's ok with you. Keep in mind that the Legend's screen will be supposedly crisper due to the AMOLED.
Personally, I think the pixel density on the Legend/Hero is fine. This is coming from someone who's used to high pixel density of the Diamond and Touch Pro2.
Many thanks for coming back to me, I might nip into a shop when the phones are out. The only problem is that I live in Northern Ireland and sometimes it's hard to find a shop which sells 'smart' phones, it's usually just iphones and nokias!

[PIC] SLCD vs AMOLED

Here is a small picture to give you some information about the differences between SLCD and AMOLED. The AMOLED phone is mine and the SLCD phone is my friend's. Both use identical wallpaper and are set to 100% brightness.

Picture taken with Canon EOS 5D - Tamron f/2.8 28-75mm - ISO400 - F/5 - 1/80s - in poor lighting conditions
Contrast and saturation of the SLCD screen was terrible compared to the AMOLED phone. It was actually even worse than what it looks like in the picture.
We didn't do any real testing, just this quick photo. Hope it's some use for someone.
I've found it quite interesting reading about this as I bought my Desire second hand today and wondered which I have.
Its on orange so there is no specification on the box as its plastered with orange stuff lol, but i'm pretty sure I have AMOLED from what I have read.
I watched a video where when using the camera in the dark with an SLCD display, you can see an awful lot of backlight bleeding around the edges of the screen so the camera image on the display doesn't look totally black if that makes sense. Have you tried that with your friends?
Oh yes. I haven't witnessed it myself but my friend said the screen has lot's of backlight bleeding. He said he noticed it the moment he turned the phone on for the first time. My AMOLED version doesn't seem to have any kind of backlight bleeding as far as I can tell.
Iv used both types f screens and i heard 50% of people say slcd is better, but when i used them that wasn't the case, the amoled was better...
No neither does mine. I think if i'm correct in what I have read (i'm still learning lol), AMOLED is not back lit as its LED unlike LCD displays.
I've gone in to bootloader, if thats the correct term (hold volume button down and switch on), and my device is dated march 2010 so I guess that would quite confidently confirm my device has an AMOLED display as I believe HTC have only started using SLCD displays recently?
EDIT: Just read through this thread discussing it here but no comparrison pics
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=777796
I have the SLCD version and I am quite pleased that I did. In the store when looking for phones I was a bit disappointed with the way small fonts looked on the amoled screen, the fonts looked very smudges or dirty on the edges whereas SLCD look crisp and sharp (also on the amoled screen I can make out individual subpixels whereas I can't on the SLCD screen). Maybe the amoled version has brighter colors or a blacker black but in everyday use (well when you use it to read text anyway) the SLCD screen is superior.

One X display puzzle

I was comparing the displays of One X vs Note 2 the other day and was very surprised too see that the display of Note 2 was much sharper! The same image was evidently blurrier and hazily on the One X's screen in comparison to that on the Note 2.
I'm not talking about vibrancy, colour reproduction, true black, true white but simply sharpness.*
I wonder if there is some sort of image processing mechanism built in the default image viewer of Samsung?
Given the size (4.7 vs 5.5), same resolution, higher PPI, true RGB, the SLCD 2 screen of the One X should have been equal or better than Sammy's?
The reason why I got the One X for my girlfriend was because she never likes the over saturated colour of SAMOLED (ie. Sammy S3) and much prefers the natural tone of LCD but looks like when it comes to sharpness there really is no contest.*
I have been a user of Samsung Galaxy line since the S1 and now I have the Note 2 but I absolutely love the screen on the One X, just find it a bit puzzling that the former is sharper while technically it shouldn't be!
This is in no way a troll or a wish to start a flame war or anything like that.
is not logical what ur saying..the big DIFFERENCE BETWEN SUPER AMOLED(Pentile) and HTC LCD2 is that the HTC ONE X is more sharper so is better
look at the difference between pixels

Dude, the note 2 ain't using a pentile screen, nor an RGB stripe. Its weird.
Sent from my faster than SGS3 HOX.
still LCD can reproduce images better and sharper..the thing with LED is that they are more " stable " and the colors are very " alive "..and thats a thing that I hate.
The note 2 is using the IPS OLED display. I find the note 2 screen overall less sharp than the One X. However, there may be cases where the note 2 may appear as if it was sharper, especially when looking at dark/black images. That's due to the more punchy color of the note 2. When looking at texts and in general I find the One X has sharper and overall better display.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
