One X display puzzle - HTC One X

I was comparing the displays of One X vs Note 2 the other day and was very surprised too see that the display of Note 2 was much sharper! The same image was evidently blurrier and hazily on the One X's screen in comparison to that on the Note 2.
I'm not talking about vibrancy, colour reproduction, true black, true white but simply sharpness.*
I wonder if there is some sort of image processing mechanism built in the default image viewer of Samsung?
Given the size (4.7 vs 5.5), same resolution, higher PPI, true RGB, the SLCD 2 screen of the One X should have been equal or better than Sammy's?
The reason why I got the One X for my girlfriend was because she never likes the over saturated colour of SAMOLED (ie. Sammy S3) and much prefers the natural tone of LCD but looks like when it comes to sharpness there really is no contest.*
I have been a user of Samsung Galaxy line since the S1 and now I have the Note 2 but I absolutely love the screen on the One X, just find it a bit puzzling that the former is sharper while technically it shouldn't be!
This is in no way a troll or a wish to start a flame war or anything like that.

is not logical what ur saying..the big DIFFERENCE BETWEN SUPER AMOLED(Pentile) and HTC LCD2 is that the HTC ONE X is more sharper so is better
look at the difference between pixels

Dude, the note 2 ain't using a pentile screen, nor an RGB stripe. Its weird.
Sent from my faster than SGS3 HOX.

still LCD can reproduce images better and sharper..the thing with LED is that they are more " stable " and the colors are very " alive "..and thats a thing that I hate.

The note 2 is using the IPS OLED display. I find the note 2 screen overall less sharp than the One X. However, there may be cases where the note 2 may appear as if it was sharper, especially when looking at dark/black images. That's due to the more punchy color of the note 2. When looking at texts and in general I find the One X has sharper and overall better display.

[PIC] SLCD vs AMOLED

Here is a small picture to give you some information about the differences between SLCD and AMOLED. The AMOLED phone is mine and the SLCD phone is my friend's. Both use identical wallpaper and are set to 100% brightness.

Contrast and saturation of the SLCD screen was terrible compared to the AMOLED phone. It was actually even worse than what it looks like in the picture.
We didn't do any real testing, just this quick photo. Hope it's some use for someone.
I've found it quite interesting reading about this as I bought my Desire second hand today and wondered which I have.
Its on orange so there is no specification on the box as its plastered with orange stuff lol, but i'm pretty sure I have AMOLED from what I have read.
I watched a video where when using the camera in the dark with an SLCD display, you can see an awful lot of backlight bleeding around the edges of the screen so the camera image on the display doesn't look totally black if that makes sense. Have you tried that with your friends?
Oh yes. I haven't witnessed it myself but my friend said the screen has lot's of backlight bleeding. He said he noticed it the moment he turned the phone on for the first time. My AMOLED version doesn't seem to have any kind of backlight bleeding as far as I can tell.
Iv used both types f screens and i heard 50% of people say slcd is better, but when i used them that wasn't the case, the amoled was better...
No neither does mine. I think if i'm correct in what I have read (i'm still learning lol), AMOLED is not back lit as its LED unlike LCD displays.
I've gone in to bootloader, if thats the correct term (hold volume button down and switch on), and my device is dated march 2010 so I guess that would quite confidently confirm my device has an AMOLED display as I believe HTC have only started using SLCD displays recently?
EDIT: Just read through this thread discussing it here but no comparrison pics
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=777796
I have the SLCD version and I am quite pleased that I did. In the store when looking for phones I was a bit disappointed with the way small fonts looked on the amoled screen, the fonts looked very smudges or dirty on the edges whereas SLCD look crisp and sharp (also on the amoled screen I can make out individual subpixels whereas I can't on the SLCD screen). Maybe the amoled version has brighter colors or a blacker black but in everyday use (well when you use it to read text anyway) the SLCD screen is superior.

Galaxy Nexus has a 720p Super Amoled Display, as noted HERE. The Pentile display is on the "Photon"
I would say this device will be neck to neck with the Galaxy Nexus, once we have ICS
no actually cordell12 the galaxy nexus does use pentile.
its the samoled+ displays like taht of our phones that doesnt have pentile
I just compared my e4gt side by side to a nexus and the screen looked the same. I know the nexus has a higher resolution but I couldn't tell from looking.

pentile is the subpixel structure of the display. super amoled HD & the photon super lcd both use it. the super amoled subpixels are arranged in such a way that the blue & red are double the thickness of a single subpixel followed by a single green subpixel of regular thickness. the photon is a bit different that it also has a white subpixel alternating with the green subpixel, known as RGBW.

the one place you will definitely tell the difference is in the web browser. the smaller text will be readable at any zoom level, unlike the sgs2.
The Nexus definitely shows the resolution advantage. Hell, the iphone 4s shows clear benefits with a screen much smaller in size (pixel density is very important as well imo). The overlooked difference between the E4GT and the Nexus is the Samsung vs Google update thing.... doesn't anyone remember waiting tirelessly for Samsung on every device they "support?"
And LTE is ridiculous compared to Sprint 4G in Chicago.

So in theory the Sumer Amoled pentile screen (720p) is better than the one in Samsung Galaxy SII Epic 4G Touch?
Have you seen both phones side by side?
I am afraid because Droid Bionic (piece of crap), had a pentile screen and MAN it was HORRIBLE

Camera Comparison Shots

I know we have all heard about how 'bad' the camera on the Galaxy Nexus is. Most of the negative reaction to the camera is purely based on the megapixel count, not actual comparison shots. So, I thought it would be neat to actually see how the camera does in comparison to other smartphone cameras. I had a chance to test the Galaxy Nexus in comparison to the Samsung Galaxy S II, HTC Rezound, and HTC Droid Incredible. I took a picture of my cubicle wall with each, and then cropped each pic to a portion of the flag on my wall. I did not zoom in or out, merely cropped. Here is the result of my test:

Granted, this was a limited test in just one scenario, but I thought the Galaxy Nexus held it's own here. Anyone have any comparison shots they can share?
I could post a comparison, but it would be between the GN and nothing and the GN would win.
As it's the only phone and camera I carry everywhere with me and therefore it's the best one at any given time that I need a camera.
Gnex photo looks the sharpest. The stars are a little washed out compared to the GS2 though.
Wth is with the yellow tint from the Rezound?
I think people are basing the quality of the photos on Mega pixel alone. They see 5MP compared to 8MP and just disregard the actual quality of the picture.

i don't have a direct comparison, but here's a couple of panoramic shots.

Yeah, the color on the Rezound, at least indoors under artificial light, is a little off. I took several shots and they all had that yellowish look to them.

HDR Camera. Give it a try.
Wow, the colors are really off on the Nitro shots.
i'll be glad when the galaxy s III comes out so we can have a whole new set of baseless comparisons threads.

ok, i'llplay. i want to compare my nitro hd to my canon 5d mark II
on the left is a picture i recently took with my mark II (my mark IIIs are arriving next month!!;-))
on the right is a picture of that picture i just drunk snapped in a dark room , blur and all
godd nite
Yo dawg I heard you like pictures,
So i took a picture then put it on my monitor, then took another picture of the picture.
Also, if your job is taking photos of babes all day, WAY TO GO MAN, LIVING THE DREAM
wow never noticed the colors were that off either. i mean, quality wise, its just about the same but the colors is what drives the eyes to perceive better quality. interesting. its cool thought. i dont take too many pictures, but good to know. i have about a year left with the phone. i can survive
This is a picture taken with the ProCapture camera app while on ICS. Pretty darn good app.
I use ICS Camera(App), it takes pretty good picture.
The one x photos looks crisp , but its the one x that made the pink hat red not the nitro.

I believe a little tweak on the white balance and exposure will give you better pics with correct colors.
Does an app like procapture change anything with the camera/encoding quality? Or does it just give you more options to tweak?
hah! i completely forgot i hit this thread, where'd the op go?

Simple image test for One X users

I need a One X user to look at this chart and tell me where the One X display falls on the gamma curve (its not a contest so dont embellish numbers, it just tells you what the gamma is set at). The One X display is known as being the best so Im wondering what they set the gamma to.

To use this chart zoom in enough so the lines arent garbled, blur your eyes and reply with the number value of where the grays blend in with each other the most (it doesnt have to be a perfect blend). You must zoom in enough so the lines arent being blurred together by the software, you need to bea able to see that there is a pure white line and a black line. My guess is the One X is around 2.0 and 2.2.
Here are some AnandTech display figures that may be of interest:
http://www.anandtech.com/Gallery/Album/1926#3
The HOX uses 3 different screens so results may vary according to which screen is in the unit.
I'm not sure if I understood correctly how to test. I'm supposed to look for the square which is closest in colour to the lines on the outside, right? I'd say it's around 1.2, though I have no idea which is better

yes but you must zoom in close enough to the image so that the lines can be seen without being jumbled together. If you look at it zoomed out then it doesnt work. The lines are just black and white, when you blur your eyes they create true 50% gray so it is important that the image is zoomed in enough that the phone doesnt blur the lines together itself, the plain gray square that matches up with the lines will tell you what gamma the screen is set to.
Slightly less than 1.2
i just zoomed in on the pc and the lines are all black and white...
For me its 1.2 too..
Tryed outside with 100% backlight and indoors with minimal backlight..
