Lol there's nothing like a best rom out there: you have to see which one fills your needs...my favorite sense rom is leedroid, because of the great reliabilty, the excellent battery life and the nice guy behind the project. If you're looking for an AOSP rom instead you should try open desire, it's fast and well made, plus it's imho the most stable of its kind. Just my 2 cents.

I've been swapping between CyanogenMod and VillianRom for a few weeks.
VillianRom is pretty cool. A clean and fast Sense rom.
No miui? I've been using that for a while now, love the new redesigned one!
Does that answer your question 3 people 5 different roms
Only way is to try them
"Best" is extremely subjective
Try and see what suits you, as it has been already suggested by others.
If you dont care about Sense, sense widgets and HTC stuff, go with OpenDesire.
the new desire hd rom are great! really fast, the only thing lacking is camera function but once thats fixed, it will be the best for me.
A brief comparison of what i like about the 3 main rom types:
MIUI: It is easily the smoothest of all the rom types. I love the notification controls (for pretty much everything - wifi, bluetooth, brightness etc). Great battery life. A zillion home screens.
What i dont like is the new menu that pops up when you press.....menu. I preferred the old one with the images (If any one knows a way or knows what i would need to do to revert it to the old school one, pretty please let me know!).
Cyanogen-based: I used to use OpenDesire, but after the arguments with credits and what not, and because of the faster releases, i use Defrost. I love how there are always new and sometimes surprisingly good features being added, like the coloured LogCat, for example.
SenseHD: I think sense is gorgeous, especially the dialler, contacts, messaging and personalisation apps. After using sense, i cant stand the stock android ones - they are so bland. I like the animated flipclock, too. I do not like how the (a tiny niggle, but it bothers me greatly) (when you press menu) menu pops up, and doesnt fade in compeltely, it kind of appears half way and fades the rest. It also happens with dialog boxes and things. This almost spoils sense for me (i am that sad...i know). Battery life is slightly less on senseHD roms for me.
As for the camera, it doesnt bother me toooooo much - the quality of the photos from the N1/Desire camera are pretty average, and if i needed a camera for something, i would take one. If/when the get it working, it would be a fantastic bonus. I always found that video recording with sense roms had a jolt every 5 seconds or so.
All those things aside, i am using senseHD because of its awesome dialler and stuff.
Josh.
I prefer Leedroid Sense rom for daily use. This is the only rom I've used long term and have never come across any issues.
For AOSP based rom, I prefer Defrost or Cyanogen. Both perform very well while keeping true to the stock android feel.
If you want something normal and you like:
AOSP - OpenDesire
Sense UI - LeeDrOiD
If you want something different and are a:
iOS fiend - MIUI
Desire HD wannabe - RCMixHD
If you want Sense, then it's RCMixHD. If you don't want it, go for OpenDesire. MIUI is also nice, but I'm SenseHD addict

Sense because the user interface is so much better than non sense roms in my personal opinion. It seems to give a much better look and feel to the usage of the phone.

Couldn't Vote.
Usability or Beauty.
Sense has things like teh beauty, the camera app, Rosie (which i never use), friend-stream, all of which are pretty great, and amazing usability.
while Android has the openness, the speed and stability, and allows you to do more things, but things can get ugly, like the borders of contact pictures, the camera app, and OJ death while it was an issue.
I find myself switching from OD to AuraxTSense and back about 3 times daily, because the camera can't take the pictures as sharp as I like, or because the sense is very bloaty and takes up half the screen on things like messages (reasons for today, tomorrow i think it's the theming for OD vs SYSRW in AuraxTSense)
The pros and cons of each are what is going to kill me. Can't wait for the new sense, and have realised I'm on a 16month plan so no instant Desire HD for me :'(
Which?
Hi
For me it's with Sense. The integration into Android is getting better since the early Windows Mobile days.
As long as Sense + the phone's operating system doesn't end up becoming so bloated that it brings about lag and problems (in an underpowered phone) then it will continue to be useful - in my eyes.
Cheers
Aussie
Non sense makes sense for me
i began with the nexus one using cyanogen and it was VERY fast. Sense however, seems to give it that certain polish giving a premium feel. Also, i have yet to see a more fluid flipping between homescreens than sense.
I'm on no sense now because many sense apps I don't use and no sense feels sharper.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
i'm staying with Sense cuz of camera and dialer app. Those 2 are the only reason. if CM got them i would gladly switch to it immediately.
I tried CM and OD and i love them both, cuz the devs and designers are using them a lot. and i want the REVOLution theme on my Sense-Desire!!! and they are on CM only~~
Sense. If I didn't want the Sense UI, why would I have purchased a HTC Desire? I could have gone for a Nexus One or... the Galaxy S
No sense for me cause it takes up extra ram and I don't like the black bubble browser menu and complexity of the UI as well as the lack of 3D effect like the launcher2 has. The simplicity of the AOSP nexus one like ROMS help work flow for me. After the new Desire HD rom is ported and provides better functionality, I may consider swapping
Again why is this in the dev section? And not general?
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
Am I the only one using sence because of speed? I love launcherpro, but on every vanilla ROM I have been using, launcherpro has been extremely laggy. Even if all benchmarks tell me the phone is faster, it still feels terribly slow. MoDaCo to me feels so much quicker.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
Sense is good in a sense that it makes the whole android UI more easy to use, more manageable, and makes the whole thing more beautiful. People always tend to put different themes on their phone to make it as their own custom look and feel. So for me I like sense... either that or install launcher and download your own preferred theme right? I guess it all goes down to personal preference.
sense purly because I could not live without HTC Sense widgets

Without Sense ... sense is slow
For easy klicking and social networks and so on its fine perhaps ... but i never need it ... so no need for sense. The Clock with weather is fine ... so i use Fency. For Calendar ... Purewidgets ... 3 Widgets replace the hole sense for me so enjoy the speed.

I have two Desires which I regularly swap between - one is running CyanogenMod and the other MoDaCo's MCR8 Sense ROM.
I'm sure that in benchmarks CyanogendMod is "faster" but in my experience, in real world usage, there is no difference.
Actually, there is one difference - CyanogenMod is way *slower* when copying files to/from the devices in USB storage mode.

As much as I love Sense UI, I'd rather have it optional, with a possibility to add/remove the components.

Ditto. Thus I ditched Sense altogether. I didn't use more than half of the components of sense. most frustrating is that it doesn't completely replace the base process, just runs on top of it consuming resources.
I posted this on the CM thread but i might as well ask you guys.
A question to a sense user switching to CM/Stock rom, how do you live without htc camera and htc phone dialer?
i mean for those that bought their Desire or starting to use their phone with sense without knowing a vanilla UI exist(like me). i just felt somethings missing without the htc camera and dialer. I've flashed OD/CM a couple of times but returning back to Sense cuz of that. Otherwise i would stay on CM, it is such a good rom.
I'm buying a Cybershot Digital camera but thats not so soon so i would like to have a decent camera app before that. i mean, the resolution is not wide as htc camera when taking pictures. and if i wanted a wide one i need to lower the resolution to 4.5mp? or is there any trick to that? cuz everytime i capture a pic, i'll get this right and left bar beside the pic using the 5mp resolution.
as for dialer, dialer one doesnt feel quite right to replace the htc dialer, though i may accept it sooner or later if i got my digital camera after this.
Just wanted an opinion for a Sense starter, not from pure stock rom user cuz you know vanilla UI from the start so you dont know how i feel. but you may post your opinion as well.
last question, can someone give a thought bout the 720p video recording? is it good, or better than sense's 720p?
and does this support A2SD+,i mean in this CM6, cuz CM6 RC2 doesnt have this yet and i'm on OD cuz of this actually. i want A2SD+ cuz i cant live without it...
I'm on Modaco R8 self baked ROM btw.
Thanks!
I mean, what will I lose if I choose to use a rom without sense?
Do I get less battery drain?
you'll lose:
Sense Launcher, Sense Widgets - this can be fully replaced by Launcher Plus Pro, or, if you don't like the look of Sense Widgets by ADW.Launcher
Sense programs, like mail, calendar, ...
FM Radio
HTC Sync - you won't be able to sync your Desire calendar with Outlook directly any longer. You'll have to buy third party software to do this via the Google cloud or you use an Exchange Server.
Because the HTC Froyo source got released now, as it seems, you'll also be able to undervolt Sense ROMs now.
However, non Sense ROMs are lighter, more customized and contain some essential features which I miss on Sense ROMs: Bluetooth HID support.
Why get rid of sense?, its amazing!!!
you will also loose htc dialer and htc contacts
I love sense because of the widgets I keep it for that.

Agreed. I love everything about sense. It makes the phone great. If I wanted senseless I could have bought an N1.
Sense is the reason desire is the best smart phone! I would not dream having a smartphone without it...
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Sense is very nice but I see that there are many roms that don't contain it. So, I was wondering if it realy is neasecery, or what is better in a non-sense rom, and if a non-sense rom is less hungry for battery
I have two Desires - one has a Sense ROM and the other is running CyanogenMod. There are one or two small things I prefer about the CyanogenMod ROM, but a great deal more I prefer about Sense, but there are others on this forum who will tell you the opposite, and be equally correct because it is just an opinion.
One thing I will say though is that you will often hear that non-Sense ROMs are "faster" than Sense ROMs. In my experience, if there is a speed difference, you can only really tell in benchmarks - in general use I feel my Sense phone is every bit as fast as my CyanogenMod phone. The same is true on battery life - both seem to sip about the same amount of power.
I don't think there is any real alternative other than trying out a non-Sense ROM for yourself and making your own choice.
Regards,
Dave
You can undervolt Sense roms of course. Also now with S-Off you can remove the Sense apps you dont need easily from the phone.
After playing with a non-Sense rom I am back to a Sense one mainly because I cold not live with the battery drain and I can now customize the Sense apps.
On Alex 1.7 and with light use I can almost go 3 days on a battery... with a non-Sense rom I could barely make 24-36h (wipe before flash and few apps installed, no sync), so it's clear in my case which rom type drains more battery.
Also this Alex 1.7 Sense rom is smooth as silk and I never get any apps or the whole phone crashing (daily occurence in aosp rom for many people?).
Aosp roms are great if you like messing around with your phone all the time, but you cant get away with the fact that Sense roms just work.
Respect to all the rom makers Sense or non.Sense.
Thanks for all the responses, you helped a lot =]

Mhh, something wasn't working properly then. With very light use I can also get 3 days battery life.
Else it's difficult to compare, because it heavily depends on how you use the phone. Playing around, surfing, ... drastically reduces battery life.
However, at the moment I use DeFroST 5.0 with HAVS kernel and the battery life looks perfect to me.

Somehow true, sometimes, but sense roms also have bugs often, and a not working revision, which gets fixed in the next release.
So if you want a stable ROM use the stock. If you want some customization, use a custom sense rom. If you don't use sense features, replaced it with other apps/widgets/tools, and need some AOSP rom features, then get an AOSP rom.
i dont have a Desire atm, but i plan on getting one soon (or possibly the DHD). I like sense, especially the new one which allows you to theme it. But something i've noticed with sense compared to stock is that HTC have removed a lot of animations. Like when opening an app or closing it. It instantly opens or closes with no animation. Stock android has a sort of zoom in zoom out animations.
From what i understand, HTC have set the options to "Some animations" in the settings by default. Could someone here go into Settings, Sound and Display, Animations, and set it to All Animations and report here if they see any changes?
htc contacts, gallery , dialer , camera and video , radio, weather ,friendstream are light years and galaxies far away from the aosp android ones...
...Since the last Poll started a long time ago, I thought it would be nice to see whats the most favorite Rom on the market at the moment.
So please vote for your Rom and maybe describe your choice...

i would say it has to do with development in the aspect that we can see what roms are most used and that might help the developers deside what ppl want in there roms and maybe add some features that other roms have to there´s to get it more popular.
would also help new ppl decide what rom to take since they will prolly start with the one most ppl use couse that must be allround good and pretty general appealing also it gives a better oversight of what roms that there are.
I use Defrost now cause I like the AOSP Rom, but when I do use Sense, it's LeeDroid All the way..
Both are super stable, have almost all features people require, and if they dont, the dev's are usually able to include it within a couple releases. Also, both dev's spend alot of time interacting with the communities on the forums, which is a great sign of ANY rom!
My own Rom Based on the HTC Stock Froyo 2.10.405.2...
Many of us been using leedroid... I wish there's a leedroid version of non sense super fast stable rom... hope oxygen makes it perfect ^^ i love everything about non sense, but sense dialer is just owning...
I'm running LeeDroid 2.2f because for me, it's a good ratio of classic HTC Sense feeling to root and modding options. Or, to put it like this: It allows me to use all the good things about Sense without restricting me too much. Perfect for a user who, like me, is pretty new to Android.
My prerequisites are sense, UI close to stock, normal battery consumption, a2sd+ and UVOC.I have tried the following over the past couple of weeks:
Leedroid 2.2f- too much bloatware, monstrous battery consumption but the most reliable
dj droid 1.8 - closest to stock, has battery z mod, stable, doesn't have OC, a2sd doesn't function properly.
AuraXTSense 8.0- I'm sticking with this one, it is not bloated, a2sd+ works, fast. Clock with weather widget acts strange but working most of the time. I wouldn't call it unreliable but I managed to freeze it two times [email protected]
Cyanogen 6.0.2. - no sense.
Rom by ieftm - I was planning of sticking with this but it needs to get fixed. One time it installs properly, the other I'm in a boot loop. Changing between recoveries doesn't help here.
Hope this helps.

I'm using LeeDroid, in part because it's close to what i was moving from and because i also sync with Outlook. I've not yet been brave enough to remove Sense completely, as i'm guessing the HTC sync will go with it.
originally i used sense roms and tried various others (had to go back to sense as aosp roms stuttered and were laggy in comparison for me with 7 full screens). now i go between open desire, oxygen and miui (but with zeam launcher).
really at this point, it's a toss up between the latter 2 - at least until gingerbread comes out

It does seem to have a lot of bloat, but I could not say it slow the system down.
But the Sense Rom approx 240MB, where as CM7 Nightly is approx 80MB, IMO it a No Brainer.
Take Care

It isn’t a good question, because it is preference related. You should try both and decide by yourself.
Imo, sense has good things (like camera app, phone app, browser "windows", keyboad) but most part is pure bloatware. So i decided for cm and i'm not able to back sense again.
But of course, it's only my opinion. A LOT people would say i'm wrong...

.I for one like the social aspect of sense but then DSP in CM is to die for .
Sense roms have better intergration with Facebook and the like. Not a problem for my self as I don't use social networks, but was for my missus. While sense roms are nice they do feel bloated compared to cm and they lack the configurations options of cm too.
Depends on what you want really, try both and see how you go. Nandroid and titanium backup are your friends.

Once you see how easy installing and backing up an installation is you will be a ROM addicts in no time
And then you can start playing with themes. there is some good work here done with that as well.
Used cm7 for a week or so. I kept going back to sense roms, bot for the social integration, but because to me, it simply looks much better, and the layout is nice, and the HTC apps are much better for me, than their aosp counterparts.
Gallery, camera, browser, keyboard, messaging, connected media, the themes themselves for me are better functioning, and better looking than the cm7 counterparts.
Sense widgets are nicely made also.
You should try them both and see which you like, it's all preference.

You have to give them a try!
I like changing ROM often: up to now I like and use a lot the Spike_M ROM that is a lighter version of cynogenmod, fast and smooth. It needs a few to be totally gingerbread.
Otherwise I use Android Revolution 3.2 that is a stock ROM but incredibly fast, stable and long lastng battery (maybe is the best all over). I've to say I like many Sense widget and do not totally dislike the beautifull integration with socials and messaging. HTC is born with touchflo and now with sense. For sure the stock rom gives a sense to the phone itself.
In a few word?
Try....
Ah a very nice question I wanted to ask myself... I started with the xperia x10 and am now with the HTC HD2 forum... there are so many roms available for my HD2
Okay comparing the two ... I would say the integration, look and overall feel of having a sense rom makes me actually like my phone...
Cons.... battery life could be better... I get about 9hrs daily with heavy usage on mornings and evenings before having to charge again
My experience with sense roms are good, but every now and again I get slowdowns. Does this happen with cyanogenMod?
CM is awesome and would be running it on my inspire if the stock htc music player worked on it lol. Sucks cause that's the only reason I just can't make the move lol I love the srs sound on my inspire . So like others have said it ends up coming down to what ya like.

that's what CM lacks atm. stock camera is not that good and keyboard aint that good.
Camera app of sense + keyboard of sense +FB htc sense+ CM = perfection
CoreDroid is also woth try...
if u wan froyo go for Android Revolution HD 3.3
n if u want gingerbread try CoreDroid HD GB 2.3.3 V4.8
Having a lot of choice is a much better problem than having no choice
Anyways, I'm a big fan of SENSE. I love the way they have integrated all the social media. Especially for me, since I don't visit facebook often. So I love the fact that updates are pushed to me.
Anycase, if you are into a lot of social hubs, then Sense People app is worth its salt. I also like the level of polish Sense brings on top of android.
However, if you are a purist ( as many over here are ), go with cynogen.
However, I believe the Cynogen Mod's battery life is not as good as some of the "SENSE" based ROMS, like Leedroid or revo series (Correct me if I'm wrong!).

yes found the sense roms are easier on the battery so far, but CyanMod have improved in this section a fair way in recent months
Basically I'd like to be persuaded as to whether to use a sense rom (e.g ARHD) or a nosense rom (e.g CM7). And if I use CM7 can I install the HTC dialer and messaging app?
--
Previously I was using ARHD (sense) and go launcher, and I've just updated to the new ARHD with sense 3. As much as I like it, it's not quite as minimalist as I liked with go launcher and my battery life is not as good (sense is a battery hod, no denying).
I'm tempted to go the other way; CM7 with no sense features. What are the advantages of this? Why do some people prefer no sense?
Can I install the sense APKs of the apps I like? The htc dialer is great, as is the messaging/
I can't answer all your questions however I recently went from RCMix3d 1.4 runny to CM7 and I'm loving the change. The battery life is excellent and it makes me wonder why I was using sense in the first place.
I don't even miss it that much, apart from the odd thing. I'll take longer battery life over flashy show off animations any day

I suggest giving MIUI a try. It is basedd om CM7,has great features and is very easy to customise!
Definately take a look at MIUI as well Its an AOSP rom like CM7 but with some very nice additions. If you like to try out different themes and lots of personalization options MIUI is definately the way to go.
But in the end both ways (sense or no sense) have their advantages. What i dont like about sense is that its so bloated up with stuff you rarely ever use. You can cleane some of it with scripts like rom cleaner but still we're talking 350mb rom (sense) vs 80-90mb rom (CM7 or MIUI).
On the other hand with sense you get one good looking theme and good to very good apps for all the features of your phone. On CM7 you might need to find another app to play music via DLNA for example and another app for weather and so on.
sense and see how you feel if you dont like then go for no sense .....simple really
im with sense atm and feel that it is good
you could try the better of both worlds by flashing DeDense from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1207645
Try Helios 0913 for a CM7 rom if you're gonna try one. It'll make you not wanna go back. These forums are crowded with sense roms that look exactly the same and offer nothing different, except some visual stuff, than the other 20 or so sense roms that are here. A good AOSP rom is hard to find on HTC phones now. Like I said though, try Helios or better yet, Hydrogenmod and you'll forget all about sense.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
I love Helios too but, more broadly, I went the way of CM7-based ROMs in general + Lord Clockan's amazing kernels and never looked back.
I never enjoyed such a snappy and responsive device when I was on Sense-based ROMs. Ditto battery life. I'm a massive CyanogenMod fanboy now, and will be flashing Nightlies (which are in a very good condition ATM) until Richfish updates Helios.
People on Sense ROMs have good things to report too, though, so my suggestion (which you've probably already heard a million times) is to try stuff out for yourself.
No one will be able to tell you what you would prefer. Test out a CM rom and a sense rom. Make your own mind up.
