[Q] Phone powered down by itself - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Obviously I have a DINC, stock ROM and rooted.. the only change I have made is the HTC 1500mAh battery before this happened.
I was listening to music via bluetooth and it stopped. I thought the music app locked up so I tried to bring the phone back up pressing the power button but nothing happened. I could not power it back on with the power button. Also, the phone was plugged into the charger at the time (green light was on). I had to remove and reinstall the battery to restart it.
I have been using this setup for awhile except for the battery which I just installed a few days ago. (The problem did not happen at all yesterday with about 5 hours of music time). Seems to be working right now.. weird.

So if I'm understanding right, you were streaming music through bt while the phone was charging. Was your phone really hot?

Battery issue

The other morning I woke up and unplugged my phone and the "Unplug your phone" notification wouldn't go away and the phone thought it was still plugged in. If I rebooted it would just turn off and keep going from the green batter charging icon to a black screen and back. Only way I could turn the phone on would be to actually plug it in again. Problem fixed itself that evening and the phone was fine for a couple days. Today the phone started with the same thing.
I've tried searching but couldn't find anything on this specific issue. Any insight? Thanks in advance.
Brand new ept4g and I got 6hrs of battery life its so lame I have hack so much bad luck with this bad boy but I'm not giving up.

This isn't a battery consumption issue...

I'm having the same problems the last few days. Also when I unplug my phone I get a red exclamation point over my battery widget, when i open the widget it says that the battery is over voltage and the red led light won't go off. Think i'm about to go see what best buy does for me. Been dealing w/ this problem for a few days now.
Did you get a replacement? I haven't had any free time to go to sprint with my problem. It is still happening often though.
I had a similar issue the other morning. Though my phone would only boot back up in recovery mode. I reflashed it to out of the box stock but that didn't make any difference. When it did boot up it would show that it was connected to the usb port but it would not be plugged into anything. I plugged it into a usb port on my computer that I hadn't used with the phone before and it reloaded the drivers on my computer and "that" issue went away. After turning phone off it would start rebooting itself immediately or with in a few seconds of turning off. I let the battery die completely and then recharged it and the automatic reboot went away, at least for most of the day, but last night I turned the phone back off and it rebooted itself. I did reroot and restore my phone after I got it to not show the usb connected or the battery charging while the phone was off icon. Just wish I could figure out why it wants to automatically reboot itself when I shut it off.
Same issue here

My Battery Monitor Widget shows a max of 1500mah? Wtf? And a measured of under 1200?
No wonder my battery life is crazy low...

I figured a way to shut the phone off and not have it automatically reboot. If after shutting the phone off the normal way and once the screen goes black but before the capacitive lights go out, if I again press the power button, the phone finally shuts down without rebooting itself. Not sure why this is happening but at least I can get it to turn off now.
I found better battery life by determining which app or apps drain the battery. I used Battert spy, cpu spy and system tuner. My problem was Touchdown exchange for Androir 2.x. I switched to Moxier Mail. I would get hours on moderate to heavy use. I got 22.5 hours yesterday on moderate use.

Problem with ROM now I can't charge

I installed the ARHD 7.0.0 ROM on Monday everything was working fine, I also installed the SMooth Rosie MOD and still everything was fine. But today, I lost my phone signal and though oh well i'll leave it whilst I go to the gym, I came back and the bttery ws at 23% (Was at 91% when I left it).
I rebooted the phone and it would get to the lock screen (with no ring) then it would reboot and it constantly done that. I reset everything and formatted everything, I transfered the ARHD 7.0.0 back onto the phone but as I was trying to flash the image, from windows, the battery died, I can't seem to charge it.
All its doing at the moment is flashing the red LED. I tried resetting the LED with power presses in and Vol but it keeps coming back after a few seconds.
I really just need to know how to charge the phone, once its charged I will be able to sort it out. Oh and I can't even turn the phone on at the moment.
Thanks in advance.
Sounds like you didnt instal the boot.img
EDIT: put it in the wall charger for 10-15 minutes and dont touch it...
I put it in a wall charger and its stopped blinking. Cheers
Oh and I did install the boot image on Monday, i've been using the phone for two days, then it just lost the signal and then didn't work. Weird!
Thanks again!
Yeah....just pluggin usb charger and leave it for ~1h and U will see, it's charging.
Few days after buying HOX I was on a party with enabled wifi, async, gps ect. Lately this night my phone goes off and I wasn't able to turn it on. At home I plugged in charger but there was no charging led.
Yeah...thougt the new phone was bricked.
With plugged usb I just left it for ~1h and then...TADAA!...charging led!!!
Well tried charging it with the wall charger. At first the light when solid, I returned to it 2 hours later and the light was off. Tried to turn it of and its blinking again, I can't even turn it on Arghh!!

[Q] Weird issue fixed? Gnex turned off after plugging out of charger

Hi,
I know some people already went through this and i'd like to hear from them how they solved it and what are your thoughts about this issue. (I'm not sure if i solved it yet...)
It was all ok yesterday night. Received calls, sent messages through Whatsapp, Facebook, read articles on Flipboard, and set up the clock alarm and left it on the screen (in that dark mode with blue numbers - my phone is set to never sleep when charging).
And no, the phone didn't drop/suffered a hard impact or anything liquid came near the phone.
Plugged my phone to charge on the wall, the charging bolt icon appeared on the battery icon and i went to sleep. (The battery was at 34%)
I woke up this morning, battery was 100% charged as expected, so i unplugged it. Just after that, the phone went off and i couldn't turn it on.
I plugged it back on the wall and the charging battery icon appeared. It was showing an empty battery charging all over again. I tried to power it on. Google screen showed up, followed by the loading X from JB, then turned off.
I unplugged again and left my phone quiet for a while and then i tried to turn it on again. Turned it on all the way until the lock screen, but the battery icon was empty (with a "!") and then the phone went off again.
I've tried to follow some workarounds i've found on Google but none of them worked for me.
-Hard reset, trying to remove battery, sim card
-Cleaning the golden contacts on the battery compartment/battery/sim card with dry soft cloth.
-Trying to plug it on pc without the battery (couldn't recognize the phone - weird, because i've connected it many times and it was ok with it's drivers properly installed - no beep after 5 seconds)
-Power it on after plugging it on the wall
What i've just tried and seem to work (i hope so)
-I took the battery and sim card off the phone for a while. Put it all back after some minutes and turned it on. After the JB loading screen appeared, i waited a while and then plugged the cable on phone/wall.
Looks like the phone is working now, all my settings, pictures, data, music still there and the battery is charging all over again, from 5% (!?!?!?) but i'm not sure if it's really charging. I don't know if the phone will turn itself off again if i unplug from the charger.... Anyone has any ideas?
Could it be any software issue? (I've installed "Battery Widget? Reborn" from Play some days ago. It's a really beautiful widget for battery info but i don't think it's the problem because i've charged the phone a few times since then and it was all working good)
And i don't mess around too much with the phone. Just rooted to change from yakjuvs to yakju and update from ICS 4.0.2 to ICS 4.0.4 and then to takju/JB 4.1.1.
(My GSM Nexus is running Jelly Bean 4.1.1 - JRO03C, XXLF1, all stock and rooted. And yes, standard battery that comes with it)
Thanks!

My G2 will shut itself off - any suggestions?

I'm looking for any ideas for the problem I'm having on my G2. I'm afraid it's a hardware problem and not much I can do about it.
I started having problems after upgrading from CM 7.1 to 7.2, but I don't think it was related to the upgrade. I started having battery draining problems, the phone took forever to get fully charged, and car mode would automatically start sometimes when plugging up or unplugging the charger. I cleaned the usb port with alcohol (with battery removed), let dry, and restarted. Now I don't have the car mode problem and the battery problem is somewhat better.
My problem now is that the phone will just die when I'm using it. Usually when I'm using the browser. I'll be scrolling on a page and the phone will just turn itself off. Like the battery died. I can turn the phone back on and it will start up, get all the way started back up, but while it is still loading the home screen widgets, it will go off again. I can repeat this several times. The only way to recover is to plug in the charger. I don't have to hit the power button again, just plugging in the charger will start up recovery mode automatically, I'll choose reboot and the phone will start normally then and stay on.
The phone never dies when I'm not using it. I'll carry it all day, making phone calls on and off, and it'll stay on with no problem. Mostly, I only have the problem when using the browser. Also had the problem while using my newsreader. Once during playing a game. But if I start up browsing the internet, it doesn't take long before it will turn itself off. A matter of a couple of minutes. I don't have the problem with reading emails with K9. Don't have a problem in downloading from the internet such as podcasts. Don't have a problem in sending text messages. Don't recall it shutting down while using the Facebook app. After putting up with this for a week, some troubleshooting and observations.
I never have this problem if the charger is plugged in. Only when it is running fully from the battery.
I've tried swapping to a different battery.
Turned down the overclocking with no difference.
I've changed to other recoveries, CM 7.2, CM 7.1, a CM 7.1 that I was running in May. No difference.
I've swapped memory cards.
I've reset battery stats.
No difference if running on wifi or just data.
Clearing caches made no difference.
So, I start thinking it must be a hardware problem, but then why does it only crop up when internet browsing. Must be power related since plugging in the charger makes it go away, but why does it not have a problem with using the phone in other ways?
Any suggestions on what I could try?
You could try to see if there is too much voltage drop when you start something power-hungry. Use a battery voltage logger and post the results. Start logging, let the phoneidle for a minute and then start browsing. Even if the phone shut off, the log should still be there after rebooting.
Thanks for the idea. I can't locate a logger that looks like it would work. It would have to capture a quick drop in voltage that is momentary. This problem happens even on a full battery and when the phone come back on (either momentarily or after a recovery reboot) the battery level is unchanged.
You might try as well an other way: first idle, then gradually step up to a more power hungry app to see when the problem actually happens. I have no other ideas...
Make sure that you dont have any contact with the battery and the door.
Normally batteries are covered with an aluminum wrap, and can cause short-cuts with the phone itself.
I searched it for a while with the galilio batteries.
You can try to put some saranhwrap around the battery.
I have the same problem with two different batteries. But I'm ready to try that too.
Battery graph
So here's a graph of my battery status. Long time to charge to 100%. Discharges pretty rapidly. Each downturn ends in the phone turning itself off. Notice that at 7:30 today, it turned itself off, I did a recovery reboot, then noticed it wasn't charging very well (green line turns to blue but doesn't increase), then I did a manual reboot and when the phone restarted, it showed the battery was at 100% charge (from about 60% before the reboot).
What do you think - hardware or software?

Well, I just took the cover off for awhile and tried it. Played crosswords (Shortz) for awhile with no problems. Started my newsreader (Newsrob) and it shut itself off in about 15 seconds. So, no short to the battery cover.
Same thing is happening to me. I use poweramp or the browser and the G2 just shuts off. Then I restart it and it tells me that the battery is low. Once I shut it down and reboot in recovery and wipe the battery cache it's back to it's normal battery level. I disabled data and set my phone for 2G networks only and it didn't shut off after. I'm assuming this is a wireless issue? I'm running mimicry 1.3.0 on my G2.
Had the same problem. Swapped out batteries and problem gone.

Did you swap the battery and immediately have no further problems? I tried swapping my battery already and still have the same problem.

I'm having the exact same issue, screen isn't responding and won't switch off, despite how long I hold in the power button.
Anyone got any suggestions?
Same here. Someone can help?
Ok, mine eventually died.
Whatever happened was draining the battery as the watch was warm the whole time (instead of my normal 2-3 days, it died in around 4-5 hours).
Plus point is that after plugging it in to charge, it switched back on and is currently working fine, it's sitting on my desk charging now. However am more than a little concerned about this happening again.
I've had same issue twice - first time when installing TWRP recovery (understandable ) and today having a lot of saves to watch creating a watch face. Both times reacting like,

I think there is a memory leak in software.
I've had a major issue where the watch turns off local Bluetooth after getting hot. The only way to turn Bluetooth on again is to turn the watch off and then charge to 100%, last turn on again and then reconnect.
This started after the 5.0.1 Update.

The same issue
Hi!
I have the same issue. Sony SW 3 is connected to Sony Xperia Z Ultra. This issue is the second one, the first time I managed to reset SSW 3 by long pressing (about 10-20 seconds) the button on the watch.
I've got the same problem but screen is off. I cannot wake it (or turn it ON). I was charging it, it was turned off, after 30 mins of changing it vibrate, I unplugged it and now it seems dead. What can I do? t
Try long press the power button?

yes i do. Probably solved the problem. I don't know why but, also if in charge, my watch reached 0% on battery, so it wasn't unable to load up. This morning tried to turn it on (yesterday it woke up for 2 sec, after it died, plugging in into charge was a waste of time) , and in the few second it turned on (in the bootlogo), i put it into charge. Now seems to work but that's quite strange because yesterday i put it on charge when it was about 10%
My SW3 hanged again this morning, i charge it overnight and when i unplugged the charger, it hanged.
as usually, nothing can reset the watch until it burn out the battery. it really annoying and i hope google or sony will fix this soon.
I had it happen once to me too, I wonder if there is some sort of memory leak or some other issue.
I have not been in the habit of powering off my watch but maybe a good idea?
I had the exact same issue was skipping through song then it froze waited 4hrs for battery to drainn
drain turned it back on and it said 0% battery so I reset it and it said 2% battery but every now and then it freezes and I have to reset it holding power for 15 sec also I notice more lag in lollipop and it did freeze on me not too long ago
The 5.0.1 Lollipop Wear update is a piece of sh!t. My Smartwatch3 was rock solid until it came along.
- Currently waiting for the battery to drain so it can come to life again...
