[Q] HELP!! Phone won't reboot - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

On my EVO when I click on the the reboot I get a black screen with a picture of a phone with a red triangle. I need help!

Are you rooted?
Sent from my HTC EVO 4G with Tapatalk

Yea we need to know if you are rooted. If you are try rebooting the ph using on of the reboot apps on the market, (Rom manager, Quickbot)...

Yes I am rooted

Doesn't sound like you are rooted.
Black screen q/ the red triangle... I thought that meant you weren't rooted that results from quickboot and you are NOT rooted.
Can you atleast shut down, then boot?

I thought I was rooted. I have the superuser permission icon. I jus **** down and tried to reboot. Got the black screen with red triangle over a phone. ROM manager said error when attempting to run privileged commands.

You are not rooted. Installing Superuser does NOT = rooted...

Ok then what is the best way and easiest to do so?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

Ok so I need to root my phone fully. Need help!
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

It can't get easier than using unrevoked. Google it, and watch the instructional clips on youtube.
Once you are rooted, you can flash roms via rom manger from the market.

a quick fix: hold volume up and hit power while on the red triangle screen. then hit reboot. if that doesnt work, hit the wipe button on the same menu to start over. if that still doesnt work, take a hammer to it and say u fell off your bike

Do I have to download from my pc or can I download the unrevoked straight to my evo?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

Can I download it straight on my phone.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

If you can't read, follow instructions on step by step youtube clips, you should just live with stock.
What the hell do you think the choices given by the unrevoked site is for?

Windows (PC) Linux (PC) Mac OS (PC).

How to boot into Clockwork so i can flash.

I returned my phone to stock and re-rooted. Once my phone rebooted i download ROM Manager and flashed CWM for the Epic Touch.
I then downloaded Quickboot to boot into recovery but it won't through the app or manually. What am i missing?
I have an SD card installed in the phone. Thanks.

I cant boot into recovery that way or through quickboot. Its like its not installed. I've booted into recovery previously whenbi had this phone rooted so I know how
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Do you HAVE a recovery? If nothing is working, I sure hope you have ADB because that's all I can think of.
connect your phone to your PC
open the command prompt (anywhere is fine, you're not moving files)
run [adb devices]
check for your device. (make sure your phone has "USB Debugging" checked)
run [adb reboot recovery]
That WILL reboot the phone into recovery. If it doesn't, then my only guess will be to flash a recovery into your phone. You can actually try doing that now before ADB, if you want.

There was a way to dial up a number to have it check the server for an update, and you'll get it sometime in the next 72 hours... I don't remember what it was...

What software number are you on 4.06.605.3 ? If so download this ( http://android.clients.google.com/p..._WWE_4.08.605.2-4.06.605.3_release_222219.zip ) rename it update.zip and place it on your sdcard in no folders. Go to menu - settings - applications and uncheck fast boot. Power off the phone. Hold down the volume down button and power button untill a white screen pops up, wait a couple seconds and it should scan for some files and say update gift found or something like that it should then go to a black screen with a progress bar and install the update. If it does not find the file automaticly select recovery and then hit vol up and power a menu will pop up select install update.
Thanks. Did not work.
Had to do recovery then update from sd card. Then it said command not successful or something similar.
Yes it was renamed update.zip and put on sdcard/ no folder.

Dialing that checkin thing using the Dialer should pull the update to your phone sometime in the next 2-3 days, from what I've heard people say when they've done it. So maybe you'll get it sometime between now and tomorrow?
Well considering it doesn't work even though I put the update on my sd card, I doubt it will work. I don't know of course.

You could just ruu to the new ota but that would wipe all your settings and data. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357969)
Or call or take in to verizon and tell them it tried updating and failed and now it wont update. They should be able to update it for you. Your not rooted so they will give you no hassle.
Part of the bug in the first OTA GB was that the cache never got wiped. You'll have to do it manually to update.
If you're unrooted, pull your battery and boot into recovery by holding vol down while you press the power button > selecting recovery at the white screen. Then from there, wipe your CACHE partition... Don't wipe anything else!
Reboot the phone. Go to date and time, switch it to manual and set your date ahead by a week... You will get a prompt and you'll be able to actually install it this time.
I've already deleted cache. Nothing works.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Reboot now and install started. Then rebooted and said not enough free space to install this update. I've got tons of phone storage free space. Even the apps space has well over half available. This is utterly effing hopeless.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
You deleted cache from recovery? Or from the settings menu? You have to do it from recovery so that it's actually formatted and empty

Just do the Odin method sso you have access to everything. Testy me this phone is super easy to root and install recovery as opposed to other phones where adb is required. The guides in either general or the dev section are aupdated and will work nicely. 2.3.5 or 2.3.6 will both worl

Use the Odin method. I also came from the mt4g, in comparison, this is WAY easier to root. Welcome to the sgs2!
sent from the white unicorn.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1332103
here you go,
make sure you have the drivers downloaded.
Remembering you from the MT4g way back when.... i would just install CWM and then flash a ROM which will give you root.
so...
1.install drivers..
2.DOWNLOAD MODE: Hold +/- and plug in the phone (let it install whatever is necessary)
3.run ODIN
4.put in the recovery tar in PDA
5.Click START
this should be fairly quick flash like a couple seconds, minutes top,.. there should be a quick green progress bar
troubleshooting:
there are times when nothing happens when you click start.. it says initializing and stuff.. don't worry! restart the process but try a different USB port... you can leave it in ODIN/DOWNLOAD mode and try different ports but you should restart the odin APP
now you need to disconnect from the computer to get into CWM recovery
to get into CWM hold +/- and power
NOTE: +/- Power also gets into download mode when you're connected to a computer
so its a universal sequence but depending if you're connected or not.
good luck
Coming from the G2x much simpler.

im guessing you ignored everything i said lol.
i guess you're gonna stick with stock since you're trying to flash superuser?
always wipe both caches when trying to install a zip.
every ROM comes rooted, so yeah. once you install CWM just flash a ROM and you're good... you can flash the stock deodexed ROM too if you want to stay stock.

After rooting the device, did you install a custom recovery? you can download goo manager in the play store and install TWRP recovery and reboot to it. If you already have the recovery installed and cant boot to the recovery then use adb to reboot it. Or another way is download terminal emulator and reboot using command lines from you for...only if you have root.
are you on stock or non stock recovery .. And to get into download mode . As far as i know from a off state hold down vol down and power button . to get into down load mode and its vol up to recovery ..
Not tried on my note but its how it goes on the note 10.1 tablet and other samsung devices i have had

Negative, only stuff I installed after the root was superSU and titanium backup.. both of the paid versions. .. When I power up holding vol+ Home Power instead of any upload option I just get the following
Reboot sys now
Apply update from ADB
Apply update from external storage
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Apply update from cache
Tried wipe data/factory reset to clear the root mod (multi-csc), but basically just wiped my phone of everything else except the root, lol, so at that point I figured I should ask for help..

that is the stock recovery. You need to get root again since u factory reset it. Once u get superSU go to play store and download goo manager to install TWRP or if you prefer CWR then install rom manager.

reboot again and hold vol up home and power until samsung appears then let go of power, but still hold home and vol up until recovery comes up. from there you can select to install zip ,which would be your rom. make sure to do a clean install (factory data wipe, wipe cache) Then use the instructions the op has up from where you downloaded the rom. should be good to go.
