What versions should I be running? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I havn't really run into many issues with the custom roms I've been trying until SkyRaider 3.3 when even after wiping several times I started running into random reboots.
I was looking at my versions and was wondering if I should be upgrading any of these? I Just flashed unrevoked forever for S-OFF, am currently running HBOOT-0.77.0000, and Radio 2.05.00.06.11. Should I be ok with these versions now or should I look at updating?

hboot should be at least .79 if running skyraider 3.3, and i would also update your radio too...

I can confirm. I have the same setup as you fiyawerx and 3.3 will not run. Radio and Hboot have to be udated. Still have not done this myself either.

[Q] Flashing radios, kernels, firmware after unrevoked forever

I've been reading through the forums since the release of unrevoked forever... Flashed it, I'm s-off and running. I was going to hold off until OTA released, but got bored today and decided to mess around with all of this now.
So today I flashed the 2.15 radio that was leaked to the board. After that, I installed SkyRaider 2.5.2 from Clockwork in recovery, which I believe also flashed a new kernel.
My question is... since unrevoked forever and s-off, I can flash between pretty much anything without issue, right?
I found a stock 1.00.03.04.06 radio flash file on here as well. So I restored back to stock 2.1, and then put the 1.00 stock radio on the root of SD card, booted into HBOOT and it flashed back the stock radio.
Is there any issues with doing this? I got excited to be back on Froyo (did this weeks ago with another version of SkyRaider, the leaked OTA, etc... But then went completely back to stock with RUU, re-rooted, etc)... I just want to make sure that doing this isn't going to cause any issues. I would assume at this point, with s-off, it doesn't matter... But, don't want to mess up the phone.
Also - Can someone on stock 2.1 who is also waiting for OTA confirm my versions?
Firmware - 2.1-update1
Baseband - 1.00.03.04.06
Kernel - 2.6.29-cc1c2268, [email protected] #1
Software - 1.22.605.2
I know from the unrevoked wiki they say that running different hboots, radios and kernels might result in an unstable phone.
Thanks.
If I'm reading this correctly it sounds like you bravely accomplished something that everyone has been speculating and wondering about since Forever was released: Downgrading a radio by simply flashing it.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think most were afraid to try it for fear of bricking.

Yes I would like to know also, are you saying that while being 2.2 with 2.15 radio you loaded the 1.x radio img and just flashed it in Hboot? Or did you go through the RUU downgrading method?
Haha... I didn't realize I was being brave. I thought I was just following what everyone else did.
My process was.... On 2.1 update 1 with 1.00 radio... I then flashed the 2.15 radio using HBOOT. It started fine, checked and saw 2.1 update 1 with the 2.15 radio. Booted into Clockwork and did an install of SkyRaider 2.5.2. That was running just fine... But I decided that I wanted to go back "stock" and would wait for 2.2 OTA.
So with that, I found the radio and recovery from on http://adrynalyne.us/. That zip contains just the radio image and recovery (radio 1.00). So with that, I did a restore in Clockwork back to my backup of stock 2.1... Shut down after it restored, booted into HBOOT with that zip of 1.00 radio from the adrynalyne website and it restored back to 1.00 radio.
I did not RUU or anything else. My understanding of s-off was that we could flash pieces one at a time without running into issues... That included radio, kernels, etc.
Everything seems to be running just fine from yesterday through today.

So maybe you just made history because I've been trying like hell to get out of someone whether that was possible? From that point you could I guess flash the ota to take you to 2.0 if you wanted? I am not interested in going back to 1.x but maybe 2.0
The following post seems to say the same thing (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7692494&postcount=190)

here's what i did:
my brother has a DInc as well so he let me use his phone to mount my microSD card. I removed the 2.15 radio and put on the stock one 1.00.03.04.06 back on the root of my microSD. put my microSD back in my phone booted holding down volume and power. installed the downgraded version and phone is working again.

I can't confirm re-installing the leaked OTA that upgrades you to 2.0 radio... But I don't see why it wouldn't work.
I seem to remember a post that warned about constantly flashing radios when s-off first came out though.
I have a new post on the 2.15 radio thread in the development forum for more clarification about going from 2.15 to 1.00, etc.

Finding out my RUU version

Sup,
I was just wondering if there is a way to figure out which ruu version my phone came with. I'm all rooted and aint goin back if Idont have to but just in case something goes wrong and I have to unroot. Thanks in advance.
Evo - Myn 2.2 RLS 3 - Clockwork - HBoot .76 - Netarchy 4.2.1 CFS HAVS
RUU's are an exe file that basically flashes things to your phone instead of recovery. if your rooted all you need to know is you never take any OTA's and you will never lose root, just flash the updated ROM of choice. The only reason you would really need to even have an RUU is if you wanted to lose root

Yeah I just been seeing people having problems going back to stock with some RUUs. And I seen around quite a bit that if you use the exact ruu that came with your phone you wont have any issues. Maybe I dont have to but rather take the "safer" route. So I rooted a long time ago and have no idea what ruu I was on. This is what I do know about my stock phone.
Hboot 0.93
Hardware Ver. 0003
Radio 2.15.00.07.28
Oh wait my phone was originally 2.1 then I did the froyo update then that was my info. So actually im noy sure about.my original build...damn...any help anyways?

You'll probably want to use the 3.29. The 3.70 may work for you but it's probably safer to use the older one and then let the phone update itself afterward.
Yeah that seems right..thanks for the help

[Q] New roms require radio update?

With all these new sense roms out im wanting to check them out. Ive been running CM6 and now CM7 nighties for a while. I flashed my radios when i first rooted and flashed fresh 3.4. Ive read alot about flashing radios messing up phones. So i have been real unsure on flashing them again. When you flash one of these new roms is it a MUST to flash the new radios, or is it preferred? Does a nandroid back up your current radio? and how important is it to keep your radios updated. I just want to be clear as can be on this issue. Thanks

It does seem that all of the new roms are suggesting to update the radios. In my experience, it has not been required to update the radios, depending on which kernel you use. (any custom kernel will work) I believe it has more to do with the PRI I did update my radios prior to flashing Myn's RLS5, because it was suggested to do so. I updated my radio, PRI, NV, and Wimax in a combo flash. No problems. Rom ran fine, but my battery life was terrible. I downgraded my radio back to 2.15.00.09.01, and flashed the htc 17 kernel. It gave me a wake lock. I then downgraded the PRI from 1.90 to 1.77, and have been currently running that on RLS5 with zero issues, and good battery life. Wake lock went away after the PRI. If I'm not mistaken, the reason you're suggested to update the radios, is because the newer HTC 15 kernel requires you to use the updated radio and PRI, and most of the current sense 3.70 roms come with the htc 15 kernel. As far as nandroids go, I'm 99.9% sure that they do not back up you're radios or anything. Amon RA, and I believe the newer clockwork will back up your Wimax RSA keys, however. I also flashed Mikfroyo last weekend, for a test run. I left my radios at the older version, and didn't upgrade, despite the suggestion. I ran the htc 17 kernel with that as well, and had zero issues whatsoever. So I'm not positive why it is suggested, other than I think the new HTC 15 kernel doesn't play well with the older radio/PRI.
Thank you. Yea I have the radio and prl versions u downdraded to. Im planning on flashing mikfroyo tonight. Just wanted to play with sense again. Do any of the kings kernels like #9 amd #11 work with the newer ota?

I honestly haven't flashed either of those kernels in a while, definitely not on any of the 3.70 software. I would speculate that they'd work fine, but can't confirm for sure. As long as you have a recent nandroid, you'll be fine. Just try it out and see how the phone runs. If it's no good, either nandroid back, or flash a different kernel. It is a neverending challenge, trying to find the perfect for a specific phone. I wish you luck!

[Q] S-off

My Evo has been rooted for about a year, and everything has been running great (free tether, sideloading apps, etc). However, since playing around with different ROM's and such, I have been having issues with the 4G and radio signal. I noticed that my s-off is now s-on. How do I change this back? I am running Sense 2.1 right now
Android Version 2.3.3
Sense 2.1
Software # 4.24.651.1
PRI 1.77_003
PRL 01115
Baseband 2.15.00.09.01
Kernel 2.6.35.10-gc0a661b
Much appreciated.
Go to the unrevoked site, download unrevoked forever, and flash it in recovery. Done

What version of Android do you have? If it's 2.2.1 or lower, you can run Unrevoked again. if it's 2.3.3, you'll just have to wait like the rest of us.
I was so hoping they'd have Root done for Gingerbread for my birthday (TODAY!)
Thank you very much. Worked like a charm

Possible Radio/RIL issue

I have a PVT1 GSM Bravo, hboot 0.93 and (currently) radio 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27, running InsertCoin 1.0.8. Basically, when I stress the radio (as in, download anything that's not tiny) the phone reboots. It's not particularly warm most of the time when this happens.
So, I'm after a new radio/RIL combo. I did flash the radio to the version recommended in the CM7 installation wiki, not sure if this is still the one I'm using or not (I've since flashed InsertCoin nightly, back to stock and then InsertCoin stable).
Any ideas? Also, which one is the latest radio/RIL combo for my phone? And can I use Desire S/Z/HD RILs as well or just Bravo ones?
EDIT: Actually nevermind, flashing 17.05.08 on there now, will do some testing.
