whenever i mount my phone via USB, it scrambles my ringtone settings. so thinking of storing my ringtones folder on device memory, want to know where to store it so it shows up in the system ringtones. don't want the ringtone files to show up under music.
any ideas? i currently have it mounted in the root of whatever folder shows up when i mount the device via USB.

I'm using xdandroid 2.2 and can't hear when my phone rings due to the very popular issue that there are no ringtones besides "Silent". I tried deleting everything off of my internal storage except for the andboot folder and a music folder containing one mp3 which has no special characters, then rebooted, yet it still doesn't find my internal storage card.
In windows 7 it shows up as fat32 so I didn't bother reformatting it with the hp usb formatting tool, but I wouldn't have been able to even if I wanted to because it didn't have my phone listed in the dropdown of possible options to reformat, even though it shows up fine in My Computer.
I can't see how special characters in folder or file names could be an issue unless there is an issue with the andboot folder, which I even looked over and didn't see any abnormal symbols in the names. The character scanner program could browse the folders and files on my phone but when I select the internal storage drive (or any drive/folder on the phone) the OK button is dimmed out so I can't select it to scan it.
Someone please help, I've tried everything...
I fixed this by backing up my internal storage and then formatting it with the HP disk format utility. FAT32 and do a full format, not quick. Took a while.
Now copy your backed up files back to your internal storage and your ringtones, wallpapers, etc should show now.
Thanks for the reply but you missed a part of my post:

I ended up getting this to work by:
1. In Windows Mobile, go to settings > system > clear storage and clear the internal storage.
2. Plug phone into USB and it'll prompt you to connect via activesync or file transfer mode, choose file transfer mode.
3. Now the internal storage of the phone will show up as a separate drive in My Computer rather than it showing up as "Touch Diamond Device". Use the HP USB tool to reformat the drive as FAT32, which will now see the internal storage as a drive.
4. Copy andboot back over to internal storage, reboot into droid, can now select ringtones!
hey guys any one tell me how to add new notification sound in htc desire??????????????????????????????
Put it on your SD card in the folder
Code:
/media/audio/notifications
Be sure to rescan the media after you do this (remount the SD card may work or use dev tools if you're rom has it).
It won't be available when you mount the SD card and if you set an app to use it, it may reset every time the SD card is dismounted (this may also happen when you restart). If you're rooted and s-offed and you can put it in
Code:
/system/media/audio/notifications
to avoid this.
how can i find this folder??????/
i have to join my mobile with computer?
You may connect you phone to a computer and mount the USB storage using the 'UBS connected' notification that should pop up and then you sould be able to access the CD card as if it were a USB thumb drive.
Alternatively you can use a file manager like 'ASTRO File Manager' or 'ES File Explorer' (both on market) and create the folders and move your music files there without using a computer.
Is there any reason that I can't move Ringtones folder from the sdCard
to Incredible's internal storage seen when connecting USB cable to windows
computer and choosing Disk Drive option? Thanks for any thoughts on storage options....
Confused...
The Ringtones folder is in /system/media, which is on internal storage. Moving it to SD you'd need to browse to the ringtone each time you wanted it, it wouldn't automatically pull up since the system looks to the default location.
The only way you can see it is by using adb or Droid Explorer.

Thanks for answer
But the Inc can actually find them on the sdCard: I have different ring for
each phonebook entry, and it finds them without pointing.
I was asking because the internal drive doesn't seem to have much more
on it than DCIM, and I wondered if there was any reason not to put ringtones
on the internal drive. I don't ususally adb, only visualize phone's drives on a
windows setup with windows explorer.

You can copy the ringtones folder to emmc (internal storage) and the phone should find them on reboot.
Below is where they can be put.
Internal:
/emmc/ringtones
/emmc/alarms
/emmc/notifications
SD Card :
/sdcard/ringtones/
/sdcard/alarms/
/sdcard/notifications
I tried moving my mp3s (songs, ringtones, notification, & alarm sounds) to my internal EMMC folder since all that internal memory seems to just go to waste. However, my phone was then not able to read/play them and the ringtones, etc could no longer be used either. Through these forums, I found out that's somewhat of a known issue, that internal memory on the Dinc was kinda wacked and has never worked as it should with media.
However, exploring my internal memory via Root Explorer, I realized there's an "audio" folder in the system/media folder which then has folders for alarms, notifications, & ringtones. This is where the stock sounds for each of those is housed. I'm wondering if I transfer my mp3's for each of those into the folder if the Dinc will then recognize and play them - this of course is something I can just try myself and see. But my big question is if I do that will that use the "open" internal memory (which is really my only reason for transferring any of those off the sd card) or will it take away from some other precious system memory of which there is so little extra on the the Dinc?
Thanks for any info in advanced!
it will be stored on the root partition of the phone. it will not really take anything away from you because you need to flash to get anything on that partition. i take all my ring tones and put them into that folder to have them in one spot. one thing is that you will need to reboot the phone before they show up for selection.
Ever since I rooted my note 2, I keep losing access to the external SD card. Trying to access through file managers or apps (music or video player) results in freezing/hanging. If I unmount then mount, I will briefly have access and it will play files as normal. After I watch a movie, I will not be able to open another file. I have to unmount and mount again.
I've tried just about everything I can think of. still need to reformat the card. Any other ideas?
Can you see files on your ext sd with a file mgr? If you are only having issues with media players finding music or videos, there are a number of free "rescan" apps in market. This just happened to me (i.e., alarm clock xtreme and stock music player couldn't find my mp3 files on ext sd)... Only took 30 sec to resolve by running "Rescan SD" app... now all my apps can find my media files stored on ext sd... something to try at least...

I'll try that. But the problem is with all apps including file managers.
I have the same problem. Everything worked fine for a month after root. Today i plugged in using a 3rd party charger and now the card wont mount or stay mounted. Ive used other 3rd party charges without problem. Could thisbe the problem?

Sounds like you sd card is going. Backup all data on the card to the pc if possible.
SOLVED!!!!!!
FINALLY, THE SOLUTION!
I scoured all over internet trying to solve the issue of any media player finding music from neither SD Card (internal nor external), even though file explorers did, so I will be posting this on every relevant thread I find.
This method worked for me, so results may vary:
1- Download Rescan Media (I used the root version):
2- Download Media scanner:
3- Go to Settings / Applications / All / Media Storage and clear data
4- Reboot
5- Open Rescan media and disable the media scanner
6- Now re-enable it
7- Now, open Media scanner and tap Start scanning
8- Voilá, now every player will recognize the music stored on both SD Cards.
*As I said, this method worked for me, so maybe just some of the steps above were necessary, but... anyway.
Good luck!
