dont mean to sound like a ****, but can anyone give me and ETA?
im a complete noob when it comes to the current root process and im much more familiar with the APK process, like the one with the MT3G.
so can any devs give me an ETA?
sorry to sound like an asshole
As far as I know, no one is developing a "one click" apk to root.

Correct. My policy: if you're unable to follow the simple directions currently used to root the Espresso, you have no business rooting your handset in the first place. Great root comes with great responsibility. Having a little background knowledge should be a prerequisite.

sorry bout tht
It may be supported on future universal androot apks but I doubt it to be honest
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
Ohhhh you can soft root with the new version of universal androot.
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
Isn't that explained in the S-OFF status thread that is stickied in the dev forum? It says once they get the S-OFF working 100%, they'll attempt to apk it to hide how they did it, only so official phone devs don't use it to make it harder to root on future phones... or somethin like that.
Yeah they should so they can't make them harder to be rooted indeed

Indeed. I too dislike humans.
There is no Root
There is no root out for 2.2 yet. A sticky are the posts that are always on top of the forum list you will see a pin icon right before the title. The XDA devs are working on finding an exploit for 2.2 but as of right now no one has made any or mentioned making any progress on rooting 2.2. I along with many other new EVO users bought it with the damn 2.2 already up an running. But worry not it may take a few months but no one has ever built a perfect un exploitable system. Some one some day will figure it out just give them some time until then cheers.
Sorry dude, there is no root method for Froyo yet. I'm sure its in the works. Not saying this to be mean or sarcastic, just a heads up, try to familiarize yourself with the search feature here and do alot of reading to make sure your question hasn't been answered yet. It will save you from getting flamed by other members for posting something that's been asked multiple times already. A sticky is basically a thread deemed important by the mods. It will always be at the top of the thread list. There's one that explains all the forum rules. Hope this helps and enjoy XDA.

I'm considering rooting my slide and was wondering if there was a method to reverse it for whatever reason? I know the original MT3G had the sappimg file you could load onto your sd card and it would automatically revert everything back to stock. I havent followed development for the slide much but have recently been reading up on it more. Thanks in advance!
Check The Slide Rom Bible... the answer you are looking for is in that thread. And in the future, this would go in the Q&A section.

Thanks man. I just figured since it was somewhat related to Android Development that asking here would be ok.

get my point if any of those where read before OP posted there would in fact be no new thread
Seeing how he used Google to get here, he might have never used this type or any type of forum before. If that is so, he probably didn't even know about stickies. Either way, now he knows.

yeah but its about the OP and where and just the plain principle.... OP has been a member since AUG 2009 ... if one years + thread membership and over a hundred posts... maybe he can read, maybe search and all but now we are all happy and everyone knows how to use search! Its great to be a part of such an awesome community! But please really search and when it says don't post a question in a section that probably means you shouldn't for a good reason. Thanks
Sorry thread police.
I actually tried searching before I posted. Prior to me staring this thread, the only results that appeared on Google were for the original MyTouch. Had I found the answer there I would've never asked.
Thanks again
Since the update I have not been able to overclock my G2, first visionary gives me abillity to still have root access (thumbs up) but I cannot lay the kernal used to overclock to 1.42ghz. any help appreciated.

same thing happen to me, i tried re-doing the process wouldnt work. so what i think the way i got it back to 1.42hz was by going to setting/ application/visionary and just clear out the data and either re-doing the process or go back to setcpu. im sure it had something to do with visionary

Are you in perm root? If u are, you should be able to just download the vision_oc.ko file around here and run the script in the terminal
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Why not post in one of the relevant threads, i.e. for the overclocking kernel or the overclocking kernel module ?
havent done the perm-root yet, im afraid i might mess up on something and then my phone wont work, but then again i do have insurance with best buy
please post this stuff in the right threads. this has been answered numerous times in the respective threads. so why not search those thread instead of making a new one in the DEV forum. thanks
1. You spelled "kernal" wrong
2. You are posting in the wrong section
3. There is a newly compiled kernel in the relevant thread. You need to run it each time you boot.
And to the people telling him he's in the wrong section: why don't you actually try help him. Its no better than posting in the wrong section when you make pointless posts like that

Doesn't that encourage people to post wherever they like though, because if they post in the wrong section then they'll get the answer anyway ?
Hahaha, calm down there high speed. I just came back to Android after 2 years. But thanks for the help with my on boarding, the info is useful.

I dont want to ask questions that have already answered and have searched the forum so hopefully noone has discussed this yet.

Is that website legit? Has anyone tried it? Just got my G2 and don't want to brick it with a dumb easy way out...although it looks tempting. Ive never tried to gain root access on the g2 and by the looks of the tutorials, its a bit more complicated than my former g1 and vibrant!
ANy suggestions??
Yea also curious.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I'm not sure what to think of that.
But, I do know that the safest and absolute best way to root your g2 is in the wiki.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
The reason you don't find any info on it here in XDA is because its boogus and all post with it in it have been deleted by MODs, they want you to do survey and then can't root your phone, do not use this, its not legit, I would erase the link.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
The easiest way I did mine was from xda it was the visionary temp root and perm root with gfree pretty simple
Sent from my Liquid Metal using XDA Premium App
All the info is in the wiki here. That looks a somewhat dodgy site. There's no need to be filling in surveys - everything is here and for free in wiki
I'm thinking of doing some scary phone mods (culminating in booting from an encrypted filesystem) but don't know enough about the phone boot process to know where to start.
Can anyone point me to some documentation about the android boot sequence?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using Tapatalk
I understand you want to make a mod..that still doesn't mean a question about it goes here.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA Premium App
So, a question like "how do I change how my phone boots?" Doesn't belong in the *developer* forum? That's a little counterintuitive. Would this be better in one of the general dev forums?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using Tapatalk
We don't make the rules or even necessarily agree with them, but this forum is for more final products/roms. Think tank type topics don't belong here. Our g2 forum is getting so busy and big that its already getting hard to keep track of all the roms on here. If this was allowed this would just becoming a flaming mess. Not being combative just stating what someone else is surely to say.

here is a great place to find info of the 'low level' life of the phone: http://tjworld.net/wiki/Android/HTC/Vision
talking to certain guys at #g2root might help too.
Thanks, that's exactly what I'm looking for.
