Sounds like an SLCD screen. Use ROM Manager to install RA recovery.

Get rom manager from the market and use it to flash Clockworkmod. Then hit reboot into recovery and see if it works.

Thats what it sounds like clockwork isnt liking the slcd screen. If flashing the clockwork doesnt work. Install RA recovery that should work.

Ive tried flashing both types of recovery, using a few different methods. Terminal on the phone itself. Bootloader. Through Windows I use the Simpleroot and that didnt work. I get a Build RA 1.8.0 in the RA build and black screen with the Clockwork. Then if i push buttons it restarts. I cant do anything. Im stuck. Sigh. Ive tried asking for help but no one seems to answer.
Have you tried installing Rom manager? You can flash clockwork through it then use it to install ra recovery over it. That is if your rooted already.

Sigh. I thought that would maybe work, it was going find (tried mac installation) and said Done. But the recovery screen came on and it was still blank/black. Nothing happens.
(3.2 was down, so when it is back up I can try that.)
3.2.1 didnt work, got an error, couldnt find misc folder. am i stuck here then. no more roms for me?
PHEW
God damn. Im so happy. Lol. I was able to download clockworks and flash it through the bootloader. I dont know why it wouldnt pick it up before. But now I have access again. Feels good to have control again. If you have problems with recovery, i would say getting PC36IMG.ZIP on the root and going to the bootloader will be best. I just have to get use to clockworks instead of RA!
I was trying to install a kernel that wouldnt install and during the process i accidentally installed PC36IMG now my phone is stuck on the htc evo 4g boot screen and when i go into recovery it goes into the original stock recovery. how do i fix this?
So I take it you have no recovery, with the ! mark?
yeah exactly
When you enter the bootloader screen, does it still show S-OFF at the top? If it does not, you will have to re-root. If it does and if you're able to get into the stock recovery, is there an MS-USB menu? I can't remember. If there is, use that particular menu to transfer the PC36IMG.zip for amon RA v2.3 or whatever recovery you had. Afterwards, reboot to the bootloader screen and install it.

I've researched about it for an hour or so now..and the answer I came up with is to get this thing for the SD card, hook up on my laptop, and get sock stock image or something like that.
May anyone help me? I really need help.

Hey guys, my phone runs MIUI and Tiamat. Every time I would hold down the power button to select recovery, it would go into hboot. And if I tried going into recovery from hboot it would just go back into hboot.
I downloaded clockworkmod rom manager and tried getting into recovery from there and still no go.
What am I doing wrong?

Have you tried reflashing your recovery?
Sent from my PC36100 using xda app
The way they suggested to disable fastboot is for a stock system. I don't know if you can disable it that way with MIUI. I know you can't do it that way with CM7, which is similar to MIUI.
Do a battery pull, boot into bootloader, then try to go into your recovery from there.
Oh, and get rid of CWM. Flash AmonRa to your phone instead.
I encountered this today. Reflash recovery and then use rom manager to reboot into recovery.

If you are still using clockworkMOD recovery, flash an older version (5.0.2.0). I had issues with the latest version not going to recovery.

HipKat I love you so much for your guide.
Thank you to everyone who took their time posting.
Sorry for bump, very sorry. I had two threads open - one for the ROM what I was going to post a question for, and this thread because it's similar to my problem. I posted a Loooooong post in here by accident, and am trying to move it to the other thread. sorry for bump
Found another solution
Hey guys,
thank your for all your suggestions and sorry I forgot about this thread as I solved my prob weeks ago.
I just flashed TWRP and had to continue to hold the volume up button after the logo and boot a second time into recovery.
I flashed Cyanogenmod and now everything works just fine.
Thanks again.
Okay I rooted my phone almost a year ago and love it found a rom that i really like but the latest version says its best with Amon-ra wich brings me to my question here is the what i have now..
revolutionary
supersonic EVT3 SHIP S-off
Hboot-6.16.1002
RADIO-2.15.00.0808
Mar 8 2011,
and here is my current recovery if it matters...
Revolutionary CWM v4.0.1.4
And here is my problem i cannot for the life of me get amon-ra on my phone i have tried for weeks and spend countless hours reading and trying to get it work
I do the PC36IMG.zip on my sd when i go into my Hboot it does nothing i mean nothing it dose its little scan and nothing happens everytime i have tired about 30 DL zip of the same file ....lol
Can someone please shine some light on this for me.....Is there something im missing of not doing right.. Or can it even be done...
And I have serched for the answer on more than one forum....
Thanks...
Well the file is the PC36IMG.zip itself; open it up [not extracting] and make sure there isn't another zip or something stupid inside it. Also make sure its on the root [not in any folder] of the sdcard.
Also check if there is an extra unneeded ".zip" at the end. Windows has a setting to hide file extensions. I had this problem for quite a while. If all else fails you can always flash a new recovery using adb.
I may be way off here but can't you switch recovery in cwm app? I'm pretty sure (memory isn't so great) that's what I had to do because I was having the same problem?

You can, but rom manager has been known to not flash the alternate recoveries.
Just throwing this out here....I usually download using my browser of choice from market, over wi fi. Change default DL path to SD card. Using a file manager rename to PC36IMG.zip then power off/ power on using volume and power button. Let it do its thing when rebooted use file manager and rename the PC36IMG.zip to something else. Hope this helps you.

You can download Flash image gui found here on xda or in the market.
After you have that, just download the image of the recovery and use Flash image gui to install.
Flash Image Gui can be found in this thread:

Image of Amon Ra can be found here in this thread:

Yes, you should most definitely use this recovery.... as the recovery being a fail-safe to the phones we know today, this is by far the most error-proof, compatible recovery for the OG Evo. All others have given me at LEAST an error of some sort, some more than others (cwm I can't even look at as usable/dependable, not to dog on it, just my experience)
