Hey guys.
I tried to flash my HTC Desire with ROM Manager.
I DL'ed the Cyanogen mod 6.0.2 and did a full recovery backup of the system in clockwork mod before continuing with the flash.
I left the phone alone for 20+ minutes, but it kept booting to the blue cyanogen mod bootlogo/flash. It still does that.
What have I done wrong, and can I fix it?
It boots nicely into the HBOOT menu, but I am unable to select the recovery button, it simply doesn't respond.
Is there any way to wipe it and flash the stock 2.2 FroYo ROM & 5.x.x Radio back to it?

Hello! While flashing RA recovery on my rooted stock 2.1 Desire, something went wrong (got stuck on Waiting for root... message). Phone powered off, didn't power on again, so took battery out. Phone booted as it usually does, but when I boot to recovery, I just get HTC screen, and nothing more. Looks like I've erased recovery.
YES, I've tried reflash with RA mod.
YES, I've tried to reflash with Clockwork mod.
YES, I've used unrEVOted last version (as of 18/11) to flash my phone.
How do I return standard recovery or flash RA? I need to install new ROM, and I can't do it without recovery.
Try this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=673277
its the original way to flash a ROM before clockwork mod and that where created.
Hi,
when I rooted my Desire I flashed Amonra on it with Unrevoked and it works fine. Now I am using the Gingervillain rom and everytime I want to install something from the Villain Setup I have to do it twice. e.g. I want to install adblock for S-ON. On first install it boots into Clockwork Recovery (I never flashed that one??) and it does nothing. After a reboot I checked wheter it has overriden my Amonra, but its still there. So I tried a second time to install Adblock just to be sure and it install, but it uses Clockwork again.
So my question is: why does it need 2 tries and where does the Clockwork come from?
Stop using Rom Manager. That's where its coming from. Just boot into recovery manually and do it that way /sigh

earlier, i managed to brick my defy by first deleting google talk and then using terminal emulator to push the google talk back in system apps.
after flashing a stock sbf through rsdlite, i got my phone working again. my problem started when i flashed another rom (followed instructions from pay's rom tutorial). i was able to flash the sbf file, then root using superoneclick, then install clockwork mod (downloaded the apk and installed manually). i rebooted after cmw install just to be sure and when rebooting to cm recovery only a blank screen shows. i was puzzled as on m original 2.51 rom before, the clockworkmod recovery screen shows up when i reboot in recovery. i tried installing other stock roms (nordic froyo), the problem still persists (blank screen). it also seems to have affected the standard recovery (volume down+power), after showing the exclamation mark with the android guy, no matter where i press on the screen nothing happens, whereas before pressing on the lower right hand screen brings up the menu. what did i screw up this time?
i needed cm recovery to work for i can't flash custom roms without it. any help would be much appreciated. thanks
I had the same problem with clockworkmod so I installed the 2nd init recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1032212 and used clockwork mod from its recovery menu.
I think the problem was caused by installing clockwork mod with USB debugging enabled.

Click to collapse
so should i try uninstalling clockworkmod and install again? this time un-enabled usb debugging?
what exactly is a 2nd init recovery?do i just flash this over the existing sbf?
sorry for the questions, am still a newbie when flashing defy.
to access stock recovery when the android appears press vol down + up at the same time, my touch screen didnt work in recovery before either
once you can access stock recovery wipe data/factory reset, and flash a new ROM fresh
hey everyone,
So i just rooted my phone using the wiki cyanogen mod, and everything worked great... afterwards I downloaded rom manager and used this method here
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Vision:_Radio_and_CyanogenMod
Method via ROM Manager
Launch RomManager.
Optional: Choose the first option in the app, Flash ClockworkMod Recovery to update to the latest version.
Select the Download ROM option from the main menu in the ROM Manager.
Select the CyanogenMod option, and then choose the latest version of CyanogenMod from the menu.
Optional: When you select the latest version of CyanogenMod, check the Google Apps* option.
Once the ROM is finished downloading, it asks if you would like to Backup Existing ROM and Wipe Data and Cache.
If Superuser prompts for root permissions check to Remember and then Allow.
The HTC Vision will now reboot into the recovery, wipe data and cache, and then install CyanogenMod. When it's finished installing it will reboot into CyanogenMod.

After this the phone rebooted and now it's been stuck on the white htc screen... I'm completely clueless on what to do now.. any help would be great thank you guys
So did you flash a 5.x.x.x recovery from ROM manager? People are having issues with this.
Pull the battery and try booting up again. If this happened on your first attempt (aka it hasnt actually wiped or anything) just go back to your ROM, and flash a previous CWM recovery. 3.0.2.4 works. THEN try to do the process.
All ROM manager is doing here is automating a process you can do yourself. I'm assuming what happened is you're having a problem with the new recovery when it reboots to go to the recovery, it hangs on HTC screen. ROM manager and CWM haven't even had a chance to do anything yet.
Another option is to pull the battery and boot with vol. down + power, then enter recovery. See if it enters. If it does, then you can reboot and run the install from ROM manager and it should work this time. You could also do it manually at that point if you wanted.
For me (and many others) when using a 5.x.x.x CWM recovery, the first boot always hangs at the HTC logo, and after a battery pull and a 2nd attempt to boot into recovery, it works.
if i was at your position and cwm is installed, by look at your post it is installed.
i pull battery out and put it back in. turn on your phone whilst holding volume down.
it will scan for pc10img if there's any dont install it...
then there should be an option for recovery, use the volume rocker to navigate gate and your on button to select.
your phone will restart and hopefully load cwm manager.
if you've got there then you can wipe data and cache then install a different ROM or another cyanmod rom.
thank you guys for all the help! it was much needed, I have successfully rooted my phone and I have cyanmod 7, i'm so glad i didn't brick my phone hahah
Gratulations
Hey guys, so I am a bit of a n00b with HTC devices, I just got my HTC Inspire, I rooted, installed CWM with glevitans tool (with S-ON) and I attempted to install the Viper ROM. I put the zip in my sd, I fastbooted the boot.img after wipeing cache etc. and then I installed the ROM. Device gets past the HTC logo but it ends up in a black screen (no boot logo no nothing). I thought that I failed, so to make the device usable for a while until a next attempt, I booted into recovery and restored my previous NANDroid backup with the stock ROM. Still goes pass the HTC Logo but black screen again, I am going crazy! IDK what to do please help! Phone's new but no warranty!
You have to flash the boot.img using fastboot after installing the rom and not before installing the rom.
Thanks doesn't hurt....
if you choose full wipe in Aroma then boot partition is formated, so you have to flash boot.img again
when you restore a backup the boot is not restored(the same way as you can not flash boot from recovery, you can not restore it. s-off needed)
Issue solved, IDK, it has to be something with my device, I tried a few Sense roms on my device (flashed rom, then flashed boot.img) and all failed with a black screen. Then I downloaded an AOSP ROM (Revolution) and the phone booted right away. I prefer AOSP from Sense (it's much lighter). Anyways thanks guys, you both earned your thanks!
