Well, im ready to upgrade from my 3125 (which is starting to fail after 2 years) to a touch screened WinMo phone (despite several friends/co-workers trying to get me into the iphone) I was strongly for the Touch HD for a while, then the Touch Pro II was announced and i started looking into it. Its not a bad phone.
Question is, which would be better overall?
The biggest selling point for the HD is the 3.5mm audio jack (why HTC or other phone manufactures dont make this standard ill never know, given the high demand and how pretty much every phone plays music now). My 3125 does play music, and has front audio controls (which ive discovered are more of a hassle than a bonus) ive found i dont use it to play music as much as i hoped i would. This is, in majority, due to the lack of a 3.5 jack. I managed to get a Bluetooh Stereo receiver, however the sound quality is sub-par, and it creates severe lag with the phone, and so, i rarely use it.
I do sync it to my outlook, use it to update appointments, notifications and contact list (im super forgetful of events, so it helps remind me)
Now on the flip side, the biggest selling point for the Touch Pro 2 is the hard keyboard (obviously). While i messed around with a soft keyboard on an iPod Touch, and im pretty sure i could get use to it, ive read that the HD used a resistant screen, so it wouldn't be as responsive as the ipod touch/iphone. Plus it would be nice to have hardware keys for fun stuff such as playing mobile games.
Outside of those two unique features, they seem like identical smartphones. I just have a couple questions about them..
1. This may be a stupid one, but since im in the U.S. i have to ask. It looks like the Touch Pro 2 will be able to go on the AT&T network (seeing as how T-Mobile is bringing it in), but Will the Touch HD also be accepted on the AT&T network? (i do understand it will NOT do 3g. I have no plans to use the network in that fashion, and if i do, non-3g will be enough)
2. Does the Touch Pro 2 have a G sensor for screen rotation and the like? From videos ive seen, it only shows it switching the screen orientation when they pull out the keyboard. And the G-sensor is something i would like to take advantage of.
3. Do both devices use the 'standard' (i use that term loosely) mini-usb connection? (same that's on the touch pro). I ask to see if the Mini-usb connections (such as the 3.5 jack converter) will work on it. It looks like the touch pro 2 does use it, but i haven't seen the jack on the HD as of yet.
3. I know the HD doesn't have IR, does the Touch Pro 2? (not essential, but it would be fun to play around with and make a remote out of it)
4. On the Touch Pro 2, will it play Media files using the 'Straight Talk' loud speaker? Additionally, hows the sound quality of that speaker?
Now, the TP2 looks pretty nice, and very functional & business like. However im not much into business (aside from programming) and will likely not use the conference feature much, if at all. The HD is more of the multi-media phone which is more or less what i want, but i cant ignore all the features and the hard keyboard of the Touch Pro 2.
Opinions? Comments?
ALL HTC devices made in the last 2 years or so have used the extUSB connection proprietary (although the spec is in the open) to HTC. It combines Audio/video with the usb port. You can use a standard mini USB cable in this port though.
TouchHD will work on AT&T 3g.
There is an accelerometer in the Touch Pro2.
IR has been deleted from later HTC devices if I have my facts correct.
Audio is played through the speaker unless you have headphones connected.
cheers.
i also wanted the htc hd but had my reservations about no hard press buttons. now that the TP2 will soon be available i will get that for sure!!!(qwerty)!!!
I would DEFINITELY go with they touch pro 2, sure the screen is a bit smaller but hardly, and also it does ahve a g-snsor, and also I here are specs for the touch pro 2 from htc website
http://www.htc.com/www/product/touchpro2/specification.html
and heres teh specs for the hd:
http://www.htc.com/www/product/touchhd/specification.html
also a slightly higer capacity battery in the touch pro 2
I know it has the hardware keyboard, but can you still use the softkeys if you didnt want to flip out the other one?
I am leaning toward the TP2, tho it means i have to wait for IT to be released, and my 3125 is quickly falling apart. :\
I think im going to stick with AT&T tho rather than switching to T-Mobile.. Anyone have any estimates on how soon it will be available to the US (unlocked)?

Definitely.
Dude go for the Touch Pro II, i currently have the HD, but i need a physical keyboad since i tend to type alot on it, mails & sms's
Th eonly up side for the HD against TPII is its 3.5 audio jack, camera and slightly bigger screen of .2''
Don't forget the HD is a much slimmer phone, its even thinner than the Diamond 2 and only a little bit thicker than the original Diamond. May not be that important to you, but if you carry your phone around with you it can make quite a difference.
I have HD and ...
I have HD myself and it works OK in US. I'm using GSM only (no 3G) as you are going to.
Both phones are quad-band GSM phones, so they will work on TMO and ATT (GSM only).
TP2 also has TV Out which HD lacks.
Previously I had HTC Wizard with slide-out kbd. If you type a lot - physical kbd is a MUST. I'm ok with soft-kbd on HD, but I do not type much. But when I chat on ICQ ... man, I miss that kbd from Wizard.
Also HD seems much thinner (at least from videos I saw). That could be a factor.
Both miss front D-Pad - it turns out - big drawback for me Too many games rely on d-pad. I mean - real games It started to change though.
Bottom line ... if you type a lot and play games a lot - get TP2. Or need TV Out. Otherwise - get HD.
Personally - I'm staying with HD.
Basically the situation is a little funny. The Touch HD, Touch Pro 2, and Touch Diamond 2, are all pretty much the same exact phone. All the hardware is the same, all software is the same, only difference is the exterior casing.
Between HD and Diamond2, I have no idea what they are trying to do. You can buy a HD and flash it to the new topaz ROM, and bam you have a touch diamond2, like out of a time machine from the future! In fact the HD casing is nicer/thinner than the Diamond2, so it's even better!
For Pro2, it's exactly a touch HD/Diamond2 + a keyboard. For this you can say it's better if you don't mind the extra thickness, it's up to you between how much you want a keyboard and how much you want a thin phone. All the small keyboards from no matter what phone I don't like, they are too small to be used seriously, if I need to seriously type, I would bring a foldable full-size BT keyboard with me in pocket. But this is my preference. If you want keyboard, get pro2, if you don't, get HD.
I don't know where diamond2 fits in, it's same as HD but worse, it's thicker and smaller screen and no headphone jack and you have to wait to buy it while HD is out now, does that make any sense?

well its smaller, also its got the sharpest screen, and also its not THAT much thicker but it is smaller and I think has better battery life but I see what you mean I want the touch pro 2 but if not that then the hd
I´ll definetly take the TP2, it has a physical keyboard!!!
For me is a must
Found 2 cents in my pocket, let me add it to the mix a roo
Ok, so I battled back and forth between the Sony X1 and the HD, I live in the US and my girlfriend in the UK so she was doing the shopping and the guy at the store was telling her go for the X1 if it were him thats what he would choose. That would be great coming from a TyTnII then a Kaiser, BUT i was SOOOO sick of all of the Iphone fantards that there was no way I was gonna pass the opportunity to get a killer device that would shut them the F up so i got the HD. I worked in mobile phone sales after high school in the mid 90s so I have been around them for ages and the Motorola flip phone was the greatest thing on earth. The Touch HD is by far the greatest hand held mobile device I have ever had. Looks great, works very well and even the Iphoners were saying well I dont need to record video and and and well I can read my MRIs on my phone and play slot machines to decide where to have dinner. Umm ok shut up and go play with your little toy in your room right. All this aside, i HATED not having a keyboard/D pad. This phone was the toast of the Beverly Hills Hotel and I broke the no mobile phones on your person rule and my manager never even uttered a word. No way I was leaving that beauty in my locker right! I tried every program for keyboards and still after all that, I sold it! Shipped it out yesterday as a matter of fact, and almost cried (not really but i almost told the guy i broke it and was gonna refund his money). SO with that said when the TP2 comes out, I WILL be back to typing fast and not screwing up and taking 2 min to type Ok ill be right over, do I need to stop off and pick up condoms and vodka!
Things I will miss
The look of the phone, its cool and sleek, but I felt like it was a little cheap feeling, i like feeling that my phone can stop an assasins bullet if need be. With the HD im a dead muthasucka
The 3.5MM headphone jack, BUT there is a tiny little adaptor i found online that looks kinda cool and not long and silly looking.
WAP vs the HTML internet, but I was assured by a post on another page that with Opera Mini (geesh) i should not have any concerns with surfing the net
.2 inch larger screen. This microscopic difference is so insignificant that even that much growth on my anatomy would be un noticed right, so who cares.
Not sure if there is a stylus but I like using that at times but we shall see about that.
Anyway I guess if you couldnt tell Im leaning way towards TP2, even though there is no D pad (wtf) and i need an adaptor to use my headphones, taking less time to type emails and such is very important and that is why i have to buy!!!!
This is the link for that headset adaptor, i think its like $7

I have an adapter that's kinda like that but more of a squarish shape. Also yeah I don't think the diamond 2 is that ood of a phone comparedt to the other 2 but it is also the cheapest, but im not sure but it does have a few advantages over the diamond like battery life, size, and yeah the thickness isnt that much of a difference anyways, so it baiscally depends on how much size on a phone you will sacrafice for a bigger screen

Yep, I am like you. I hesitated between TD2 and HD (I do not like keyboards, I do not do enough typing on my phone/pda to accept the added thickness, soft keyboard is enough for me).
I am more leaning to TD2: cheaper, smaller so more pocketable make it my number one pick over the HD (although would miss the 3.8'' screen, 3.2 is just a little bit small - my perfect device would be TD2 with a 3.4/3.5'' screen (it is possible keeping the overall size, just reducing screen borders, especially the empty space under the buttons...), and either thinner or, even better, with a larger battery...I have seen pics of the batter of the TD2 and TD1, and TD2 batter seems 2 times as large as the TD1....why is it only 1100 mAh is beyond me, by the look of it I would have expected at leat 1300-1400 mAh, it is either thinner or HTC is being conservative with its battery capacities....
3.5mm jack is a little bit annoying, but I seldom listem music on my phone anyway, so either an adapter or the included earphones would not bother me too much
I had both the Touch HD and the Xperia X1i. I love the big screen but i miss the keyboard. I would have stayed with the Xperia but the speaker sucked and I often missed calls. I'm looking to get the Touch Pro 2 as it seems to be a combination of both phones to me. i hope the speaker is as good as the Touch HD, if not better.

I think that some companies make unofficial batteries that are like 2 times the size so u might want to get one of those then

I am pretty sure it will be amazing since it has 2 speakers
Yea, the 3.5mm jack is getting to be less important over the keyboard. Mainly due to the fact that their is an adapter from the usb, and if i got the HD, i couldn't do much about the keyboard.
I know their is no D-pad, but the TP2 Does have the hard keyboard, with Arrow keys.. couldn't you use that to play games?
As far as uses? I dont know. I dont much experience using a phone with a keyboard so i couldn't say if i will use it a lot until i have it available to me. I could very likely get use to the soft keyboard, but if i had a hard keyboard, id like get use to that over the soft. My 3125 is a normal number pad so either the hard or soft would be an improvement for me.
The headphone jack, ive been thinking that i likely wouldn't use quite as much. The only time i get the opportunity to listen to music is when im either driving, or waiting on something and frankly when im out in public i dont like putting on headphones because it makes me oblivious to whats going on around me. Plus, as stated, i could easily get an adapter now that their are several available.
Even tho ill have to wait that much longer (2 more months.. meeehh) i think im falling in the TP2's direction.
Here's a cahrt comparing the features of the Touch Pro, Touch Pro 2, Diamond 2 and Touch HD: http://www.fuzemobility.com/the-titans-compared/
I thinkt he HD does very well actually...in fact if it gets a software update it may be the winner with the largest screen (it's really great to type on).
I know its kind of biased posting on this thread but I wanted your guys honest advice. I am a US AT&T subscriber and have been saving and waiting for the Fortress (TP2) to make its long awaited release. But recently I have been reading reviews and awing at the specs for the Samsung Omnia II and now it has grabbed my attention due to the awesome AMOLED screen, 800 mhz processor, 1900 mhz 3G at&t band etc. In fact the only two faults i can find with that phone are the lack of a hardware keyboard and built in stylus. I was hoping you guys could (unbiasly) voice your comparison of the two devices so you can help me make a definitive decision.
Thanks
Omnia seem to be a very good phone for regular consumer (graphics, gaming, multimedia, 5mp camera). TP2 has been design for business customers (keyboard, noise-cancelling dual microphones and speakers) ...
IMO, both phones are outstanding phones but their purposes are different.

And its for this reason that I am having difficulty choosing. I would most likely use the phone for web surfing, hulu, email etc. (multimedia) but I would also use a stylus frequently for taking quick handwritten notes. So essentially I would be happy with the omnia II if it had a built in stylus (since it can do pretty much anything the TP2 can do except screen tilt).
Have you heard of the Omnia Pro? It doesn't address your stylus concerns, but it does have a keyboard.
Have you considered the Touch HD or Toshiba tg01 (snapdragon but same OmniaII stylus concern)? The 4"+ screen might be nicer for taking handwritten notes. I believe the Touch HD also has a successor on the way, though I can't keep track of all the names out there.
Personally I would never consider one of those keyboardless devices, but different strokes... If multimedia is a big concern of yours, you might wait to see how the TG01 and current devices fare with real flash once it is finalized for winmo (hopefully) this fall. It's hard to know if current processors like TP2/Omnia's will really be able handle Hulu in a pleasing way because Adobe's promised mobile flash solution isn't here yet to test it out.
I just watched a video about how bad the omnia 2's screen visibility is under the sun. here: http://pocketnow.com/hardware-1/omnia-ii-outdoor-screen-visibility
that's one thing that would stop me from buying the omnia 2. and also the fact that the stylus isn't built in so I'd have to carry around that little cylinder thing.
on the other hand, from what I hear about the screen sensitivity, it's almost as good as the TP2 and the TD2, so I feel like the stylus wouldn't be necessary at all. especially considering the fact that samsung has done a great job of skinning WinMo and making the Tocuh Wiz 2.0 UI so finger friendly.
but, despite the faster processor, gorgeous screen (indoors, at least ) and the dual LED flash, I'd still pick the TP2. the TP2's form factor and design (and the fact that I've been waiting 6+ months for it to come out to the states) make it an easy decision for me.

I'm not sure about the omnia pro, but the omnia II will likely only see a release on Verizon in the fall. The current unlocked model has the 1900 mhz At&t 3g band though.

I don't think so. I'm pretty sure verizon still has exclusive rights to the omnia family. I say AT&T should propose a trade: give up exclusivity for the iPhone in exchange for exclusivity of the omnia family
screw it, I will probably grab the ATT Fuze (touch pro). It is $99 right now, don't want to spend 200+ on touch pro2

Yes, agree. The stylus hanging outside the phone is a stupid design and that puts me off since the first version of Omnia when it is launch some time back. Guess the N97 also follows the similar stupid design.

All AMOLED screens are basically useless in sunlight, not really samsung's fault. I have read this everywhere.
yes amoled screen is useless under direct sunlight....but it consumes less battery
omnia 2 should be compared to diamond 2, not touch pro 2 and i vote for omnia 2 compared to diamond 2..... especially if i have to compare the multimedia part.
tp2 should be compared to omnia pro to be fair.....
Wooh, In my opinion:
I do like the big built-in memory of OmniaII and hate the non-practical small built-in memory of Touch Pro2.
However, I do hate the shortcoming of OmniaII without built-in stylus. I do need the stylus for my Chinese handwriting, also for some traditional software which is not designed for finger friendly.
it's easy for me to buy the Touch pro2 at that time the OmniaII did not come up to market yet.
I'm waiting on both of them, but my leanings are to the Omnia II. The processor and ram put it far ahead IMO. I hardly use a stylus now so I won't miss it, and in regards to visibility outdoors I don't foresee that as being a problem either. The main concern I have is the touch screen keyboard, resistive vs. capacitive in that regard are worlds different. I love the hard keyboard on my titan but for everything else the Omnia II sports I would be willing to give that up...assuming the onscreen keyboard is efficient.
Omnia 2 vs TP2
Well under the specs, the clear choice will be the Omnia 2 in every way.
1- Faster processor for Omnia 2. 800 vs 528- hands down its the 800 processor. You can handle larger apps quicker and handle larger amounts of data quicker! Samsung wins that.
2- Better screen for Omnia. 3.7inch WVGA 400x800! AND AMOLED!! Its larger, brighter, and Amoleds are more responsive(1000 times more responsive), and you can actually see the screen under direct sunlight! Im not sure where people are getting the whole AMOLEDS are bad in sunlight but i have experienced both(cause i have devices with both AMOLEDS and TFT LCD and AMOLEDS are AWESOME in sunlight- you can definitely see the screen and its way better looking than your TFT LCD. Oh and both are resistive so you can use a stylus for both.(omnia doesnt come with one but they cost less than $10 anywhere or just buy a pen stylus or use your pen!) So hands down Samsung wins that.
3- Same wifi, Gps, accelerometer, bluetooth, FM radio, and handwriting recognition(even if it doesnt come with a stylus, just buy one online- like a pen stylus.) Both equal!
4- Internal storage - for Omnia 2 you get 2gb, 8gb, 16gbs! Vs 512mb for TP2....hands down Omnia! SAVE $100 for a 32gb sd card! Samsung wins that
5- Camera, video- goes to the Omnia- at 30f/s with flash and vga video conference features. 5mp with dual flash! You have HD, or near HD quality video- 480p!!! Amazing! And we all know what crappy cameras HTC devices make(not all, but most). Samsung wins hands down!
5- Both run windows 6.1 OS. Both have 2 unique interfaces that are both excellent and you can get the touchflo 3d cab if you do not like the samsung interface. Both equal.
6- Samsung has a 3.5mm headphone jack i think which is a plus cause then you dont have to buy an adapter. I have an adapter cause of my older HTC phone- The G1 and kaiser but having a phone that doesnt need an adapter is always a plus! Samsung wins!
7- TP2 has dual speakerphones which is awesome and dual mics for noise reduction. And TP2 has an amazing slide out keyboard with tilting screen! I fell in love with the kaiser screen and keyboard. I really do not like onscreen keyboards. TP2 handsdowns wins that.
8- Battery life for the Omnia is around 10hrs on 3g- which is 4hrs more than the TP2. Because of the AMOLED screen you get a way better battery. Samsung hands downs!
So you see, the Omnia 2 is a better device in almost every way possible. Better screen, better cpu, better internal memory, better camera with video, and better BATTERY! To say its a more business like phone is just silly since they run on WM6.1 and you will get the same apps in either phone. Because the Omnia has an accelerometer you can have the straight talk function on the omnia since that sort of software has been out already. If you really cant live without a keyboard and dual speakers(which btw, is only practical if you are in a conference...and lets face it, how many conferences do you really have?) then maybe the TP2 is for you. But since i run a business and use phones like these frequently, having a pen stylus on hand or just using the end of my pen for instant input is more handy than a built in keyboard. Oh, and because the omnia is supposedly a "multimedia" device im sure the speakers are amazing. So all in all Omnia 2 is a better device is every which way. It is more business like, more social, more multimedia and because they are both WM6.1 you can get all the same apps for either phone.
And i was planning on getting the TP2 when it comes out in tmobile but given the raw data and specs, youd be crazy NOT to get the OMNIA 2. Almost like picking a Nissan than a BENZ. If it comes out in Tmobile i wouldnt think twice about trading in my TP2 for an OMNIA 2.
Samsung Omnia is a better business and multimedia phone. It looks to be an amazing device!

3.7inch VWGA 400x800! AND AMOLED!! Its larger, brighter, and Amoleds are more responsive(1000 times more responsive), and you can actually see the screen under direct sunlight! Both are resistive so you can use a stylus for both.(omnia doesnt come with one but they cost less than $10 anywhere!) So hands down Samsung wins that.
3- Same wifi, Gps, accelerometer, bluetooth, FM radio, and handwriting recognition(even if it doesnt come with a stylus, just buy one online- like a pen stylus.) Both equal!
4- Internal storage - for Omnia 2 you get 2gb, 8, 16gbs! Vs 512mb for TP2....hands down Omnia!
To say its a more business like phone is just silly since they run on WM6.1 and you will get the same apps in either phone. Because the Omnia has an accelerometer you can have the straight talk function on the omnia since that sort of software has been out already. If you really can live without a keyboard and dual speakers(which btw, is only practical if you are in a conference...and lets face it, how many conferences do you really have?). Oh, and because the omnia is supposedly a "multimedia" device im sure the speakers are amazing. So all in all Omnia 2 is a better device is every which way. It is more business like, more social, more multimedia and because they are both WM6.1 you can get all the same apps for either phone.
Samsung Omnia is a better phone.

That was terribly biased, you made specific points on the Omina wins and nothing of the TP2 wins. AMOLED is bad outside. You understate the importance of the keyboard and it is the best keyboard out there of any smartphone.
For me its the TP2. Once HTC get some better drivers for graphics and the cooks get to work **** is gonna be off the chain on the TP2

Biased? Whats biased is having this discussion on a Rhodium discussion board- thats whats biased. Im a huge supported of HTC devices but its clear as day to look at the Omnia 2 and Touch pro 2 and declare which one is better...OMNIA 2 in every which way and trust me when i tell you AMOLED screens are amazing in sunlight. Amazing. I can see some things with my kaiser or G1 when the brightnes is the highest but with a AMOLED, you see everything and your brightness doesnt need to be high at all. And i tell you this from EXPERIENCE, not some silly video review. Oh, and the keyboard is amazing for TP2 but you cant judge a phone just based on keyboard. But because the Omnia 2 has a 3.7 inch screen, the onboard keyboard is LARGE and will be better for guys with larger fingers, like me(which is why i always look for a phone with a large keyboard like my old phone- the G1 and Kaiser). lol- and the reason why the TP2 doesnt win in each event is because it doesnt match up with the Omnia 2. I forgot to add the OMNIA 2 has dedicated graphics processing for better video taking and gaming and watching video(beats TP2 in contrast- looks much better viewing videos from a larger, better, brighter screen) and with the faster processor you get faster multitasking! COME' ON!
OMNIA 2 wins all the way. HANDS DOWN!

Don't you think the Omnia 16gbs will cost more than 2gbs model ? Internal storage is not as important as you say... imo at least. I've paid 60$ for a 16 gb microsd 4 month ago (10 mbs transfert rate). But, considering that Omnia as more internal memoy, Samsung wins ...

I agree with on this. Samsung definitely wins this one. But I own a panasonic ZS3 digital camera (its a small point&shoot camera) that can record 720p vids with extremely good quality, so I don't really care about the camera on the cellphone

TELUS TP2 has a 3.5mm headphone jack (every CDMA TP2 might have one). So if you own a CDMA version, it's equal, and if you own a GSM version, samsung wins. (Mine is a TELUS' )

I don't know the battery life on Omnia so I can't comment this one. Anyway, the battery can be replaced by more powerful one. Both are not damn Iphones
So, if a little bit more colorful screen, faster cpu, more internal storage and better camera (which has only 1.8 mpx more btw) is every for you, go for Omnia. Otherwise, if a perfect keyboard with a tilting screen, dual speakers, dual mics with noise cancelling, CDMA & GSM on the same phone (woldwide edition which I own), then go for the TP2.
Both are extremely good cellphones ! This is only my opinion, nothing more
Did i mention, internal storage means faster loading of apps, files, music, videos, etc- way faster than any micro sd slot which is why flash memory devices are prefered over devices not built with internal storage. Combine the internal storage speed and the fast 800mhz cpu you have super fast rendering of pics, music, video, browsing web, opening apps, opening and editing word documents, excel, pdfs, powerpoint, inventory apps, etc(for business and multimedia freaks). And it has a micro sd slot! The camera also have dual flash and the amoled screen has a faster response time. But when i look at a phone the keyboard, dual speakers and mics, and tilting screen is somewhat important(keyboard is very important) but the dual speakers only work in conference calls.
So if you want people in the streets, malls, house, video store, etc to hear what you want to say then they arent as relevant as one may think. Since they both run WM6.1, the question is- do you want a faster, longer lasting, better, larger, brighter screen, with working FM radio(right out of the box), with better mulimedia functions then the OMNIA 2 is for you. If you want a slower(in compariso to the OMNIA 2), less multimediaish, with a keyboard(excellent), lesser screen (in comparison to OMNIA 2), without working FM radio then the Touch Pro 2 is for you.
To put simply, The Omnia 2 is an iphone with multitasking ability, and advance WM user interface for advanced calendar, to-do list, phone capabilities IMO.
I have read that OLED's are better outdoors, but the little I've seen from previews/reviews on the OMNIAII say that the screen has poor sunlight visibility.
Secondly, if you use a stylus, then having an external one is not the same. It means one more thing to carry, possibly lose, and using a normal pen isn't a good idea (they're not made to prevent scratches on touch screens and can leave ink stains which might take a while to remove). And if you choose to have a stylus dangling from your phone like with the Toshiba G01, it kinda ruins the sleek factor.
What's with the "Better screen for Omnia. 3.7inch WVGA 400x800! AND AMOLED!"? Okay, .1 inches larger, it's better, but not a huge difference, and the resolution is the SAME.
And a slight correction: the dual speakers only work in a conference call, sure, but the dual mics can do their noise cancelling magic in conference calls (you can even choose the level of noise cancellation) and on normal calls, meaning that they DO help in malls, streets, house, video store, etc.
The video recording might be better, but it is NOT nearHD, 480p is VGA or D1 (DVD quality).
I agree that the Samsung Omnia II is better in some respects, but one poster said you were biased, and though maybe you're not, it seems so due to the enthusiasm and slight exagerrations in some cases (I said slight).
And one thing that I find shocking is the observation on phonarena that despite the more powerful processor of the OMNIAII, the homescreen lags, a lot, regularly. As shown in the quote on wmpowerusers:
Despite the beefed up processing power the spinning WinMo beach ball still pops up at times and this is most noticeable on the homescreen. Within the menus we rarely saw it, but flicking from homepage to homepage produces a 5-10 second delay while waiting for the widgets to load, which is infuriating. The widgets are a great idea, and some of them (like AccuWeather and Google) are very helpful, but it’s just not quick enough. Furthermore, we often found ourselves pressing options two and three times to activate them and not being able to drag widgets around unless they were pressed just right. This problem was only in the homescreen (here we really missed HTC’s TouchFLO 3D), throughout the rest of the phone it was very responsive and accurat
The OMNIAII does have the advantage in various fields. But not in all, so in the end it will be up to the individual user what he or she prefers.
Tell me guys.

Never used a Hero.
The TP2 from T-Mobile is hands-down the best WM-based device I've ever had my paws on. You can pry it from my cold, dead fingers.....

Do you want a Windows Mobile phone with a brilliant physical keyboard and lots of neat business features that also does a reasonable job of multimedia, or do you want an Android-powered, multimedia-oriented device with a capacitive touchscreen that supports multi-touch, and which also does a reasonable job of business-oriented stuff? The two are really very different. It would make more sense to be having trouble deciding between a Hero an iPhone - they're much more similar in philosophy (IMO).
i dint really get the difference between the two types of screens...capacitive and resistive.
I played a bit with an iPhone 3GS today and it felt really good...i like the iPhone because everything just works... but I got bored after 3min of playing with it.
just the thought of not being able to flash new roms etc. makes me puke.
I like my RAPH but i would like a bigger screen, better(faster/smoother) handling of multimedia(pics/music/video) like iPod on iPhone, sort of.
so its down to winmo or android.
I was also thinking weather to go for hero or the touch pro2 but the touch pro2 has an amazing keyboard and watching movies on it look pretty impressive and i dont mind it not using a 3.5 mm jack as i use a stereo bluetooth headset. So i went for the touch pro2 and WOW im glad i did, im writing this from my touch pro 2 now.
It also has a reasonably good stock rom, the stock rom on my wizard was hopeless and if it wasnt for xda-developers i would never of had it for so long.
TP2 definetly, because the hardware keyboard that for me is a must!
The telephone conferencing and voice features are really good. Easy to setup and to use. Sound is good too. Credit to HTC for adding features that are fundamental to a what a good business phone should have.
I really don't like the way the Hero looks. Just for that I would go with the TP2.

capacitive screens are designed for finger-friendly touches. when you touch the screen with your finger, the press generates an electric stimulus that the phone reads as a press. capacitive screens can't use normal styli, so there is a loss in accuracy
resistive screens are designed for accuracy, due to the use of styli
I got the Tmobile Touch Pro2 and I am very happy with it - awesome screen size and acceptable thickness for a fullsize keyboard. hulu.com on skyfire for this screensize totally rocks. I have heard that the flash browser of Hero is slow, but then again - it hasn't been XDA-fied yet (not that I know of, anyway).
But I am in the same boat as you - want the Hero too!!!
Good news is that I have a work ATT phone that will be up for renewal in October, hopefully when the Hero comes in!
Can't really help you with your choice except say - go to the Tmobile store and see the TMobile touch pro2 in person.
And don't count out the diamond2 either.
It truly is a great time to have HTC shares....hmmm maybe I should be looking into that! lol!

Resistive screens need to be pressed quite hard, while capacitive ones only need to be touched lightly. Capacitive screens tend to be more responsive, so they will probably track your finger better when scrolling, and there's less likely to be any ambiguity about whether you've pressed something or not. But the most significant difference (aside from the fact that you can't use a stylus with a capacitive screen) is that a capacitive screen, given appropiate OS support, can support multi-touch - that is, it can detect being pressed in more than one place at once.
So, on the Hero and iPhone if you're running (say) Google Earth, you can rotate the map by putting your thumb and forefinger on the screen and twisting your hand. You can also zoom in and out by putting thumb and forefinger either side of a section of the screen, then moving them together or apart. This is much more convenient and intuitive than the TP2's zoom bar.

A jail-broken iPhone is actually pretty flexible.
I almost bought an iPhone rather than a TP2. It was really only the cost that put me off in the end. (Not the absolute cost, but it's too expensive for what it is). The user-interface design on an iPhone really is beautiful - it's not just that everything works, it's that everything works intuitively and quickly and neatly. The lack of a physical keyboard was also a problem for me (as I'm rather clumsy and have short, fat fingers) but the on-screen keyboard on an iPhone is the best I've seen; and the lower resolution of the screen (on iPhone or Hero) niggles a bit - for mobile web-browsing the extra screen res on a TP2 or Diamond2 really makes a difference for reading small text.
The call quality is also very good on a TP2 - I need phones to be clear and loud as I'm partially deaf. People hear you very clearly on the TP2 as well, thanks to the high-quality soise-cancelling microphones.
Hey folks,
I was just wondering which phone was overall better?
I know the Xperia X1 has:
Panels
Hardspl
3.5mm headphone jack
Optical joypad
However, the touch pro 2 has:
Much bigger screen
Better speakers
Much better keyboard with screen tilt
A little bit more ram
Moreover, both phones have:
Same 520 mhz processor
Same apps in a sense
1500mAh battery
So what do you guys think is the better phone and explain why? Which one would you folks choose?
it's about 2 new threads in a week, with same queston.... try using search
here it is > http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php
I think you've answered your question yourself. But being a Xperia user and also having fiddled with HTC pro2 for a few hours... my verdict is that if you can live without a digital scroll pad then HTC wins at every front. Panels are nothing to be jumping with joy about and within a week of careful use my Xperia looks like a weathered out 1 year old phone. The battery cover plate started getting scratched and metal base started showing through its edges the very day i bought it. Sony Ericsson should be ashamed of such cheap materials on one of the most expensive phones in the market. But hey... they're known for being shameless and giving a hoot to customers and value addition.
yeah i was drooling for a tp2 pro but i was kind of turned off with the lack of the scroll pad.
Is this a theme or an application?
I have decided to go Rhodium (TP2).
The things I base my decision on is:
1. The bigger screen on the Rhodium makes document reading, editing, Internet browsing etc better.
2. WM 6.5 is supported officially with new drivers from HTC. Sony Ericsson seems to have abandoned the X1.
3. A better keyboard.
4. The HTC RC-E100 remote control works with the Rhodium.
5. TV-out.
6. G sensor - the ability to measure acceleration and so on.
7. My X1 has the "classic crack" in the battery compartment near the volume control.
8. The screen tilt makes Rhodium to a better replacement for the Nokia E90.
tp2 tbh its the best choice in quality
1 ive owned 4 x1 and not that i wanted that, they cracked
2 screen and touch screen is way better than the x1
but if the x1 was good quality i would have stayed with my x1
why
well the x1 is more a phone that can do anything you want and the tp2 is more a pda that can call its to big and the power button is on the wrong side
everytime i want too type i push my screen off
Could someone take pictures with both phones so we can see the sizes.
like front pictures and side pictures to compare. the TP2 is much bigger than xperia but i like to see it.
I like the x1, it looks more like a phone that looks nice. i love the design of x1. it fits perfectly in my hand, not to big not to small.
X1 is much lighter than Tp2 and has a longer battery life. And the x1 has panels that i also love espacily the multimedia panel fore listning music.
this is the first Wm device from SE and i must say they have done a great job. ofcourse not every phone is perfect and have its faults.
And people don't forget the x1 is made by htc.
some functionalitys of TP2 is to much, like TV out you gonna use it in the beginning to impress ur friends but after a month orso you never gonna look at it anymore.
the only possitief thing i could find on TF2 was the screen size.
and am i the only one that likes the x1. i couldnt understand that people have cracks on theire x1. i used it fore 7 months till i got my first crack and that was because my phone fell very hard, every phone would had a crack if it fell down like that but the phone survived.
Ofcourse SE is very slow with updates that it looks like they abbondend use but you can't be sure. if they had abbondend use there wouldnt be R3 Firmwares. Fore now the R3 is fast an d responsive maybe there would be a new firmware when Wm6.5 comes out.
X1 looks coooooller than tp2 XD
anyway, tp2 is better choice good luck*
Because I want a phone which can put in my pocket then TP2 is too big for me, X1 is perfect, just the crack is disturbing, as long as U can live with the crack X1 is perfect (of course leave that original ROM, throw out the dam panels is useless, use the custom ROM, who our xda friends create to us)
Guys i just had a sneak preview of TP2 and i was impressed with the design and the body of the mobile. It has a very metallic back which gives it a sturdy look. Overall i would prefer TP2 for its bigger screen and metallic lookalike.

No you aint the only one. People just like newer stuff, but the SE X1 is doing just fine especially with the fine people of XDA-Devs putting out the latest builds of WM6.51. In regards to the TP2, the screen size is larger, but how can that compare to the loss of a d-pad. The d-pad is what is needed to ensure that the largest application library for Mobile devices (Win CE of course ) is supported.
I would stick with the Xperia if you had to. Or wait till WM 7 devices next year. All I know is even though I love my Xperia, I will never buy another Qualcomm device again. Tegra all the way.....

Thnx
with people wanting newer phones isn't the phones fault but the OS. most think if they get a new phone that it will be faster. but i'm using wm for years now and i must say the OS is really really slow. the speed difference between htc touch(elf) and the xperia isn't that much its a little bit faster.
for the screen a bigger screen is always nice but i think its only has affect if its 6 inch. not the little 0.6 inch bigger if you say you want to watch movies witch you phone the battery life won't less a full movie if it does it won't less the day. its nice fore visiting websites but how long or how many sites do you u visit its only more battery usage. the battery life on wm phones is already a day. Why do people want a bigger screen, 3 inch is really enough. thats the biggest difference between these two. they have the same cpu the same ram/rom. adn if you look at these two links at gsmarena. they say the battery life of xperia is slight better than TP2.

the reason why i choosed xperia was the size its was not too big almost the same size as te SE k800. it has a neat design and it has a keyboard. i used a lot of pones en the xperia is on of the best phones i used till now.
Why do a lot of people bash a phone for having a Physical Keyboard? They are a lot better then the Software Keyboards. You can feel if you hit 1 or more keys when typing with a Physical Keyboard. When you type with a Software Keyboard, you might have Haptic Feedback, but you can't tell by that, if you hit more than 1 space. Also, with the Physical Keyboard you can see the entire screen while typing, unlike the Software Keyboard which only let's you see just a small part of the screen while typing. I feel that ALL Smartphones should come with the Physical Keyboards.
I have a physical keyboard on my quantum and I love it... Though I'm not sure what this topic has to do with wp7
It's about the only thing I miss from my old N97
I'm trying to hold out till there is a new WP7 with a phyiscal keyboard
Sadly, I don't see any WP7 phones with a physical keyboard in the pipeline. I was hoping for a replacement to the HTC Pro 7, but it doesn't seem so. :-(
Maybe Nokia will develop something.
Sent from my AT&T Samsung Focus using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
that's why i bought dell venue pro..excellent physical keyboard:X
simply because people are stupid. A hardware keyboard is much better tan the virtual one, and its stupid to say that it makes the phone thicker!!!! the key would be a keyboard phone with a W8-like OS, and with a mini touchpad like the Old WM6.1 phones. But, its only a dream, now we are in the dumbphone era, so this is only sci-fi. My Optimus 7 is much thicker than many keyboard-phones...
agreed, will be holding onto my quantum until a suitable next gen qwerty keyboard WP gets released.
7pro for me
keyboardless phones are a no-go for me
can nokia please cough out an E7 with wp7?

Phones with keyboards are generally thicker and heavier than phones without keyboards. Some people would not want a keyboard if:
- they can type just as fast using the on-screen keyboard or;
- they don't type much on their phone.
In this case, they would choose the thinner, lighter and probably cheaper phone.
Personally, I prefer a physical keyboard too. However, it's good to have a choice of devices as people have different needs.
Just so long as Sprint keeps up the WP7 "Touch Pro 2" Style phones, I will keep getting them
Though I would switch to a fancy HTC Titan if Sprint got that also.
If only Sprint got the HD2 way back when... Sigh..
yes
They need to make a WP with a physical keyboard. Dual core processor. 4 in plus screen. Front and back facing camera. At least an 8 mp camera and expandable memory. That would be a great phone. But for now I love my Arrive. And I don't ever buy a phone with out a physical keyboard.

believe me, you would love your Arrive even more if you tried a Quantum. OMG, it is a nightmare if you're used to the Arrive.
I think there are those of us who have used keyboards since the beginning of time and it is hard to let go, then there are those who have only recently jumped in to the smart phone arena straight in to a virtual one and they got good at it and know no difference. I have seen smart phone newbies with virtual keyboards typing just as fast or faster than I do on the physical.
When I just switched to AT&T (signal reasons) I was forced to get the Quantum and the difference is amazing. Not flaming the Quantum for those who have it and know no better. I wish that were the case, believe me. Those of us who started out on the UTC 6600, then 6700, then Mogul, then TP1 and TP2 were very satisfied with the Arrive. That is a very nice landscape slider. My wife and I just ordered replacement Focus S's to send our Quantums back (our text maniac daughter is hanging in there in fear of losing her text messages). Amazon says that we can have 30 days after we get these Focus S's and we are hoping that a landscape slider breaks for Christmas (there's rumor of a landscape slider from Nokia). Of course the expensive solution to the whole thing is an unlocked Pro 7. That's the dream. I would swap all of my former Sprint smart phones for 3 Pro 7's
I like my quantum..
What was your issue with it?
I hate how people say "at least an 8 megapixel camera"...
They can't seem to comprehend megapixel means size not quality..
The quality is dependent on the sensor.
There are 5 megapixel cameras that will destroy an 8 mpx one when it comes to quality....

i had a SE P900, then i swapped to an atom for awhile, before i got hooked on the tp1. on my 7 pro now. but oh boy would i kill to get a nokia E7 flavoured WP7
I was a sucker for physical keyboards too before and bout hp ipaq 614 just for that reason..
But after trying wp7 virtual keys.. i say its a good riddance..
WM6.5 screens had diff touch technology.. where we had to press screen hard.. thats why we had keyboards..
But wp7 has some new tech.. i dont know what they call it.. but we dont have to put pressure on screen with a stick.. it senses your finger using some electro-magnetic thing.. its way better than using physical keyboard, but still needs some improvement.

lol...
Resistive vs. Capacitive
this is the most realistic rumor I've seen around....

We now know its not the first out, but it definately looks as if it could be a prospect.

Agree, one of the best ever.

Phones with keyboards are generally thicker and heavier than phones without keyboards. Some people would not want a keyboard if:
- they can type just as fast using the on-screen keyboard or;
- they don't type much on their phone.
In this case, they would choose the thinner, lighter and probably cheaper phone.
Personally, I prefer a physical keyboard too. However, it's good to have a choice of devices as people have different needs.

I entirely agree with you, but what annoys me is there is no choice (in any OS).
You can have high spec, but only if you have a stupidly oversized screen.
You can have a small screen, but only if you don't want a decent spec.
You can have a decent keyboard, but only once every 2 years, which fair enough adds to the size (I don't care frankly), but what annoys me is you pay more than the highest spec phones but DON'T get high spec.
Why can't I have high spec in a small phone, with a keyboard. I don't mind if it's thicker. Any screen bigger than the one on the 7 Pro is just too big to be practical.
