Screen has bleeding look - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I rooted my wifes phone and flashed cm6 nightly 10-12 and stap 7.6 with turbo. Set her phone up the same as mine. only difference is im on ra recovery and she is on clockwork. Now her screen has a flicker and bleeding look. I had a app that would alow you to change some settings to fix this and for the life of me cant remember what it was. Can someone help me to find this or fix issue.

Ya my brothers phone had this, we got scared ! We ended up flashing a stock rom and everything was back to normal. He then decided to wait on trying CM6 again. The only thing I did diff was installed without downgrading the hboot to .76. Which hboot you on?

Thread moved to Q&A.

I flashed cm w hboot of .76.2 and my phone ran fine w it? Whats the diff between .76 & .76.2?
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk

hboot .97 used the one click unrevoked. im on 87 i beleive unrevoked but the version that you have to do all the typing. My phone is fine.

i mean im on .76

I had a similar problem when installing a new kernel to my Fresh install. Screen got all messed up. I went back to just the stock Fresh and it worked fine. If I had to take a stab at the problem, it might be a voltage issue. Do you have the same problem if you use *just* CM6 and not a custom kernel?

Don't know. I will try to use stock rom or maybe 7.6cfs instead of bfs

I used CM6 by itself without issue. Fresh also. Wasn't until I mixed in Netarchy that I started having screen troubles. Going back to stock kernel fixed it.

AOSP (cyanogenmod) kernels arent compatible with sense and vice versa

Unable to flash any roms except cm6

I am unable to flash any roms except cm6 ( I can also flash any nightlies. )
This is driving me crazy. I have tried to flash fresh 3.2 to no avail. I have also tried to install the new virus rom. I attempted to install the rooted version off the newest ota with the same results.
After each attempt the result is the same. It will just hang on the HTC evo 4g screen.
I have downloaded the roms a few times each to ensure they were completed correctly.
I have pulled the battery and waited.
I have deleted all data / dalvik / Cache several times in a row.
I have attempted to flash using a different version (earlier) of clockwork with the same results.
I even attempted to flash with RA recovery. Same results.
I am completely lost as to why I can only flash cm6 roms
Please let me know any suggestions.

From what I have read...................
You need to restore a 2.1 or a 2.2 rom you have, boot to that, then you can flash to a 2.2 rom.
You can't go from CM directly to another rom.
I am on 2.2

An HTC rom.
CM is not a typical ROM.
Restore your original backup, and try from there. If you don't have one, you may need to RUU

Ok, so basically I am going to unroot - reroot?
I just flashed from cm6 straight to baked snack directly with no problems. Not really helpful but you shouldnt need to flash to a stock rooted rom first. Note sometimes you have to wait a good 5 minutes for the htc screen to go away. Probably took about 5 when I moved from cm6 to snack.
I just tried again, attempted to go to fresh. I let it sit for 10 minutes with no results.

I unrooted- rerooted with the same results, I cannot flash ANY roms other than Cm6 it seems, this is very frustrating..
Anyone else have any ideas at all??
Thanks!
Try flashing a new recovery. If you're using the newest amon go back to the last one or vice versa. Or even move over to clockwork. But I would ask about that I know clockwork doesn't play well with cm6. This could get you in trouble but I guess you always go back to amon.

Nothing worked, tried going to different recoveries/versions. Nothing.
Anybody? Any advice?
if you flashed cm6 and have it working... its my understandung that you cqn not just go and flash a different rom. there is a process that needs to be followed.
but i have never and never will use cm6 so i could easily be talking from my rear.

I flash from cm6 to rooted stock rom when I need to update prl and stuff.
After you flash wipe dalvik and cache again I had that problem when flashing snap.
Im not sure if these don't help. Maybe you can send a tweet to cyanogen himself to get it resolved. If fix pst your findings

Also check your kernel, you shouldnt have to flash anything but the rom you want when switching from cm6

How do I go from pershoots kernel to stock kernel?

If Ive flashed Pershoot's kernel and CM 6.1 and for some reason i decide i want to Nandroid back to my stock setup....how would i go about it. Do i have to use the PC10IMG.zip because of Nandroid not touching the kernel?

Well if you didnt do a Nandriod Backup of your stock rooted rom before you flashed CM6.1w/Pershoot's kernel you will not have an available Nandriod backup to use. Also when you do a Nandriod backup it's of the entire system including the kernel, so what ever you back up it also backups the kernel, so to awnser that question it does restore the kernel.
Next and most important you do not ever want to reflash the PC10IMG.zip image on your rooted HTC Vision unless you have true permroot with gfree, if you rooted the old wpthis.ko file way and did not run gfree, and you would know if you used gfree, then you dont have true radio s-off and if you flash PC10IMG.zip you can brick your phone, here is a link to the thread discussing the problem I am talking about:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=838484
Next if you have gfree'd your phone then you should be able to reflash the PC10IMG.zip(T-mobile G2) onto your phone without any problems, I have not personally tried to reflash the PC10IMG.zip myself and I am gfree rooted, because never found a need to, but I have found a link to a post where someone has flashed the PC10IMG after gfree with out any problems :

Joemm.....couldn't have asked for a better explanation. I did indeed use the gfree method outlined in the wiki and I did Nandroid my stock rom. I truly appreciate your help and happy new years!
By the way....on my Vibrant I've always read that nandroid does not back up or restore your kernel. Is that specific for only that phone?

I really dont know about the Vibrant, but I would think any nandriod backup would include the kernel because its like a snap shot of the entire system.
Happy New Years
Hmmmm. Now I'm worried. Can't find if the Nandroid issue with the kernel is Galaxy S specific or not. This verifies the Vibrant side.

Now I'm still wondering about the G2.

Ok , I read your links the radio and kernel are two diffrent things, the nandriod backup restores the kernel not the radio. But unless you specifically flashed a new radio your phone still has the shipped radio even with a diffrent rom, like me right now Im running Enom's rom w/ 2.6.32.27 kernel, before this I was running Virtuous with evils kernel, but even after all the diffrent roms I have flashed and kernels I have flashed, I still have the shipped radio, I never flashed a new radio. So again unless you specificlly flashed a new radio you still have the same radio the phone shipped with even though your on a custom rom. And you would know if you flashed a new radio. Custom Roms do not come with new radios they use your existing radio.
So nandriod backsup the kerenl not the radio.
Correct you are Joe. Must be vibrant specific (Nandroid not restoring kernel).
Any problems with pershoots kernel for you? I just flashed it and my battery is awesome. I'm just using set CPU with no profiles.

I didnt notice any benefit or real difference from the two, plus when they first started coming out with the OC mods 1.5 and above always seemed to give people problems, so Ive always ran my phone at this speed or even a little less. Just being cautious I guess.

Kernel Troubles

Not sure if its the fact i am running CM 7 or what but whenever i try a different kernel then there stock everything boots just fine but the touch screen doesn't work. I am lost and have no clue what to try.
What kernel are you trying to flash?

If running cm7, ya gotta flash a gingerbread AOSP kernel - try that.

I believe it was the AOSP kernel part that i was missing. I finally got a Invisiblek to install. Thanks for the help.

Invisiblek is the way to goon Gingerbread roms. I've flashed his newest with OMFGB 1.1.1, and it is awesome. No problems snappy, excellent battery too!
Sometimes people (including me) mix up AOSP and Sense, sadly they don't like to play with others if you install them with the wrong rom. Racists, pft.
I have only had the phone about a week now so I have had a lot to learn. So far everything seems good now and I am happy. Now if i could just get better battery life lol.
I was trying to install the following http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=972746 I am getting same issue installs fine boots. Then when I try to unlock screen I get nothing. I have HtC incredible running cm 7 rc 3

The link you provided is the EVO kernel. Have you tried the Inc kernel?
Evo: http://www.thebcblends.com/cayniarb/Kernels/evo/Tiamat_Evo-v3.3.3-sbc.zip
Inc: http://www.thebcblends.com/cayniarb/Kernels/inc/Tiamat_Inc-v3.3.3-sbc.zip
The zip files have different contents.
EDIT - I just realized the thread you linked has both the Inc and the Evo versions. I saw that it was in the Evo subforum and jumped to the wrong conclusion. In any regard, make sure you are flashing the right one.
I just flashed
Inc: http://www.thebcblends.com/cayniarb/Kernels/inc/Tiamat_Inc-v3.3.3-sbc.zip
and i am still having same problem. Any ideas ?
Edit: Messing around with rooted phones is something I have just started so it maybe something simple I am missing.
Not sure why my cell doesn't seem to like other kernels but
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905873
seems to be doing just fine so i will leave it alone.
Thanks for all the help.
Have you tried Incredikernel? Kernels are really a matter of personal preference, but Incredikernel seems to be one of the best. (And also my favorite.)
I gave it a shot a while back and had trouble. My issue is that he touch screen doesn't respond. Incredikernel is recommended in several places but i had zero luck with it supporting the screen. I have started to wonder if its support for slcd.
I will try it again and see what happens.

[Q] [q] i messed up my phone...can someone please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

first off i love this foum and all of its members it has help me numerous times before. I recently rooted my phone HTC Evo 4G with stock Gingerbread. Used revolutionary got s-off, rooted m phone put a few nice apps on there also flashed a new kernel b/c it was necessary for HDMIwin to work.
But then my mp4 files on my SDcard would only play sound and no video...and my camera wouldnt display anything just a white screen
please help me xda....your my only hope
thank you

Every one of those problems points to a bad kernal. Try flashing the same kernal again, make sure you wipe only cache and dalvik before flashing.
It that doesnt work, then that means that kernal isnt compatible with your hardware/rom combo.
That's a great thing about kernels, you can flash them without destroying anything. Try a few different ones out and with each one try to demo every feature you phone has and you'll see that certain kernel-and-rom combos leave you with or without certain hardware or software capabilities. But there are enough out there where you'll find one that lets you use everything you need.

HDMIwin is for Sense 2.2 ROMs. They have yet to update it. Flashing a 2.2 kernel onto a Gingerbread ROM creates problems, such as your white screen camera.
If you want HDMIwin for Sense, then you will have to go back to a Sense 2.2 ROM. I think you can run some sort of app with the Tiamat kernel on an AOSP ROM like Cyanogenmod

[Q] Broken 4g and Wifi, please help!

I've got an evo 4g, I've been rooted for about a year. i flashed cm7.1 and it was running for about 3 months and last week wifi and 4g just stopped working. i used rsa checker to check my keys and they're still there. i think the problem is my ip address. its unavailable on wifi and 4g. i dont really know where to look. can someone point me in the right direction?
Did you just flash a new kernel?
Try flashing Tiamat... see what happens.
i just flashed savaged zen, but that was after the problem. i reflashed clockwork again, as well as cm7 again. how do i update my ip address? i think thats the prroblem. by telling you i already flashed a kernel, do u think it will help? how?

Just flash Tiamat and see what happens. This is almost definitely kernel related. Make sure you wipe dalvik cache and cache (preferably with Amon RA or TWRP recoveries).
I love you man, I'm talking serious bromance! Can you explain why that worked? Did my old kernel go bad? Thank u so much!

Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Try a different version of CM7. You can also try an entirely different rom for troubleshooting purposes. Generally 4G & wifi issues stem from the kernel. Are you flashing any mods or running anything that makes system changes, like V6 Supercharger? If you're using V6, undo the kernel tweaks.
Best bet is to flash a different version of CM7, even if you have to downgrade. Do a full wipe - data, cache, dalvik, system, boot, SD-ext, .android_secure - and flash only the rom and gapps. Try 4G & wifi before restoring anything. If they work, you can then restore anything you've backed up with TB, just try to avoid restoring system apps/data. If the problem comes back then it may be something in one of your apps or the data you've restored... though unlikely.
If this doesn't work, do a full wipe again and flash a fully stock rooted rom. Update your radios etc with the combo zip. If that fails, RUU.
There are plenty of options, but I don't think you'll have to go as far as running an RUU. Start from the top and work your way down.
