[Q] Network settings - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all developers! I have one question - have anyone information about where home network information placed? As I see radio settings is independent from ROM settings. Also I see that some settings placed in ROM, for example Call section's NBPCD and Assisted Dialing settings. Problem is that I use Incredible outside from U.S. and some programs wouldn't work fine because it have some limitations in US - for example new Skype work only in WiFi mode. Then I try to run it in 3G network it's write attention like "In the United States you can only make Skype calls over WiFi". Can we fix it?
P.S. changing NBPCD and Assisted Dialing settings give result only for call making process, not for global network settings.
P.P.S. I found one way - we can change file build.prop in ROM image (system/build.prop). There is two sections - ro.cdma.home.operator.numeric and ro.cdma.home.operator.alpha. I change it to my operator's default settings and bingo, I have stock Skype.apk, that work in 3G network. Next step is change stock's backup image. So, have anybody information about OS files, where this information placed?
Last update - simplest way for change build.prop at installed image is SDK's adb pull and adb push commands use. It's checked and really worked.

I thought I had read somewhere that verizon is letting Skype work over 3G. If I can find it again, I'll post it here.

Found a hacked APK over at DroidForums. I'll try to post the link.

How do you enable the 3G in the chinese 2.2 rom ?

What the title says! I only get the "E" which are like dial up speeds
You need to manually set the APN settings of your network provider, which is found in settings, wireless settings. You will need to Google the APN details of your network provider to get the details to fill in, usually as simple as the APN name and all other fields are left out, but that just applies to my network, not sure about others.
Sent from my ME525 using XDA App
If you're trying to restore US 3G follow the steps here, but there are two files you do not want to copy over. I believe it is the build.prop and the default.prop. (can't find the original post I saw this on)

what option? if you mean "it's not there", that's the whole point, you need to add it >menu >new APN
you need to check with your telco as to what their MMS settings are
in mobile network settings what i get is data roaming, data roaming sound, enable always - on mobile connectivity, and system select (cdma roaming mode). thats it
i see the settings if i go to the messaging menu (inbox) then press menu - settings - connection settings. but they're inaccessible
Do you have a CDMA or GSM phone?
cdma...................
you really should have mentioned that, it's really very significant!
you need a ROM that supports CDMA phones, you can't just put whatever on there

[Q] CM7 and GSM settings: Can someone put it all together?

I read in the Development forum several threads that address partially how to get your Dinc2 to use GSM (even AT&T here in the US). The problem is that no-one has put a cohesive set of steps together to make it clear how to do this with a CM7 ROM. Even our "master developer" attn1 insists that it should be possible to use the phone with GSM. But I found:
a method to change settings inside the phone *#*#4636#*#*
someone mentioned to switch to GSM only with 2G checked
someone mentioned to use global setting
someone mentioned to use GSM/WCDMA auto and not prefered
and someone mentioned to use GSM/WCDMA prefered.
And then there were several iterations with reboot or turn off/turn on, or not.
But non of it seems to work consistently, something I not only notice now (back in the USA) but also while I was in Panama and Chile.
Can someone put a succinct set of steps together that is fail safe and works?
Thanks!

Trouble with sending MMS, and questions on setting up T-Mobile SIM card with G3

Hello all. Not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but no where else has come close to helping me find an answer to my questions.
----
Wow, that's quite a wall of text below. I'll try to summarize my three questions here:
Why won't my phone send MMS? It receives and sends SMS (after some tweaking), and receives and sends calls
What network do I choose under the Network operators menu? (RAT : LTE, RAT : WCDMA, or RAT : GSM)
Why is my phone's menus seemingly different from the menus in every G3 guide I've seen?
----
I'm having quite a bit of trouble getting my Verizon LG G3 (VS985) to work with my T-Mobile SIM card. Specifically sending text messages. Until a short while ago, I couldn't send any text messages. After playing around in the settings a bit it seems I can now send SMS, but not MMS. I can receive both SMS and MMS, I can receive and send calls, and I can use my data to browse the Internet. I'm utterly confused on how this phone is supposed to be setup and why it isn't working. While in my settings I turned data roaming on, but I tested sending a message after temporarily turning roaming off and it still sent. My APN settings should all be correct (though I'm not sure if there's something special I should set my APN Type as - it's left as "not set" as specified on T-Mobile's documentation).
Another question I have is what network I should choose. When I go deep into the network settings (Settings>More...>Mobile networks>System select> LTE/GSM/UMTS settings>Network operators) and choose "Search networks" it comes up with three T-Mobile networks. They have the following "RAT"s:
RAT : LTE
RAT : WCDMA
RAT : GSM
I'm fairly certain I'm not looking for "WCDMA" but what do I choose between LTE and GSM? As far as my understanding of cellular networks go, my phone should be using a 4G LTE network, but the network (T-Mobile) is also a GSM network. That left me thoroughly confused. Will one of these make my phone work better than the other? Will one let me send MMS?
Questions about T-Mobile network setup and MMS not sending aside, there's one other thing that's bothering me. In almost every troubleshooting guide I've looked up or been walked through, the menus all seem different. I've got software version "VS98535B" (if that's useful for you guys) and Android Version 5.1.1, which I assume is the default or should at least have similar options. However I've encountered two situations where my phone didn't have any type of the option that someone or some guide was trying to show me - once when looking for "WiFi Calling" in my settings (it's not there - "Advanced Calling" is in its steed) and once when looking for some spam setting in my messaging app (also not there). Any thoughts on this? Why does it seem my LG G3 has different menus from every Internet guide's G3?
Sorry to ask so much, but any help will be greatly appreciated!
Okay, WCDMA is 3G or HSPA. That's okay to choose but you'll want to set it to GSM/UMTS/LTE and let it choose it's own network automatically. If it's not letting you send MMS changing the network manually will have no effect. The easy way around this is to change your default text/mms messenger program and that will fix it. Either install Google's messenger app or use one of your choosing that's not the one that was included with the OS.

SM-G925F won't get every call but 4g is fine - VoLTE activation?

Hi,
I moved from Europe to the US with the S6 edge (SM-G925F) and subscribed to t-mobile. Internet is fine but I don't get every call.
I've been browsing the web a lot today to find a solution and the best I found so far was to root the phone, go in the servicemode to change the band selection from "automatic" to "LTE_GSM". Now the phone switches from "4g" to "e" when it receives a call :victory: but it doesn't work every time
I then understood it might be because VoLTE wasn't activated but the option is nowhere on the phone.
Voice and data services can work simultaneously only on VoLTE. (If VoLTE is turned off or the device does not support it, then LTE is only data.)

- Do I have to flash to a rom where it is activated? (sm-g925t stock rom for example)
- Can I just update the CSC to activate VoLTE? (if I check it is already set as "true" everywhere)
It seems the question of the s6/t-mobile compatibility is redundant since I've read a lot about it but I couldn't find any solution that worked and tbh it is kind of confusing for the non-experts. (My level: I tweaked a lot/all of my phones but always following tuto carefully)
Thank you for your help!
So I updated the CSC files I extracted from the latest sm-g925t stock rom and now I see the "4g LTE" logo and I can receive call in 4g BUT (and it's a big one) the phone app, message app and contact keep closing so its impossible to actually answer the call or read a message... any idea what could cause the issue?
I noticed it's only when I overwrite the "others.xml" file. If only the "customer.xml" it doesn't change anything and apps still works.
