hi,
how do i edit connection settings in the messages folder to make my ROM usable with my provider's MMS settings? everything is greyed out and inaccessible.
i have the info needed from a working phone...
you need to check your APN settings
i dont have that option in wireless & networks

what option? if you mean "it's not there", that's the whole point, you need to add it >menu >new APN
you need to check with your telco as to what their MMS settings are
in mobile network settings what i get is data roaming, data roaming sound, enable always - on mobile connectivity, and system select (cdma roaming mode). thats it
i see the settings if i go to the messaging menu (inbox) then press menu - settings - connection settings. but they're inaccessible
Do you have a CDMA or GSM phone?
cdma...................
you really should have mentioned that, it's really very significant!
you need a ROM that supports CDMA phones, you can't just put whatever on there

i saw this one post a couple days back where someone edited a file inside the cell which gave him access to these settings. sadly i did not copy or bookmark the page but it was on xda.
Still stuck here fellas... Using pre rooted stock froyo cdma rom from this site.

I flashed my Xperia PLAY last night, with a UK .ftf. I originally had a US .ftf (or I assume, I live in canada). It's asking if I'm on Rogers or Fido whenever I try to use my data network and it didn't before I flashed it. I don't seem to get 3G network anywhere, except very few places in my town, when I used to get it everywhere. I'm not sure if coincidentally the Rogers 3G networks are down or not. I'm downloading a supposed "rogers branded 2.3.3" .ftf, hoping it solves this. I just want to know if the reason I'm not getting 3G is because I flashed with a UK .ftf?
Oh, the reason I flashed was because my Xperia PLAY somehow bricked itself. I hadn't done any modding or root attempts whatsoever before this. I had only learned of flashing yesterday.
If you haven't set your APNs yet, you'll need to do so. Generic UK didn't get a 3G signal before I did that. APN settings are in Settings > Wireless Controls > Mobile Networks.

Ah thank you, that fixed it. I have a question though, I found on the internet the APN settings for 3G and for MMS. However I can't enable both. Or does the 3G one include MMS?
To be honest, I'm not sure. MMS on my phone has always been hit or miss. I think the 3G APN works for both.

Hm, alright. Thanks for the help!
There's two sets of settings floating around out there. One has both Data and MMS. The other has two, one for data and one for MMS. Only the data one of the two needs to be selected. MMS will just work.

Help baseband is unknown
I can't connect any networks.
How for I update radio?
I have just started a T-Mobile contract in the UK on the Full Monty plan that gives unlimited data and includes tethering.
The handset used is unbranded and unlocked but I couldnt tether with it for some reason, either via wifi hotspot or USB Tether. The internet on the handset worked fine.
I couldnt call 150 customer service as that dept shut at 10pm so had a play with the apn's.
The three APN's set up as default are all locked and uneditable so my plan was to edit the broadband one in someway.
So, I copied all the settings, set up the APN's as another network, deleted them and added the three default APN's manually.
Once I did this, tethering started to work, with no actual change to any of the settings.
Just a heads up if anyone else comes across this and a fix that worked for me.
Steve
Yep rename apn to consumer broadband, people with many HTC s will known this, glad you figured it out

Many thanks for this post. Would you mind expanding / elaborating on the above steps at all? Not sure how to do this. Have tried creating new APNs with the same settings with no luck. Any pointers much appreciated, thanks.

Yeah - I'd like easier steps too listed please - and thanks for sharing!
I made a mistake in my original post.
Seems that what was happening is that I was using the T-mobile Orange signal and not been able to tether. After messing with the APN's the phone went back to T-Mobile and so started to work. Nothing to do with the messing with the APN's
But, what does seem to work, is to re-create the APN's as they were, but on the first entry, change APN type from 'default, hipri' to 'default, hipri, dun'
That works on T-Mobile and when roaming onto Orange it seems
To do this, copy the info from all three APN's and then with the APN screen open, select menu and then 'reset to default'
This deletes the APN's and then gives you the choice of carrier to use. I used Virgin I think (doesnt matter which you use) but once the new APN(s) are there, just delete them. Then, menu and add APN.
Set up each of the APN's as they were before, except the above change (adding dun to the Apn type)

Smashing thanks. Tethering working fine now on T-Mo only, will try the solution you suggest for T-Mo/Orange when I get a chance. Much appreciated!
I don't have any problems tethering whilst on Orange on Android handsets. I'm not on Full Monty though, if that makes any difference. It is impossible to tether on an iPhone whilst on T-MobileOrange though. The hotspot option is just greyed out. As soon as you switch back to TMobile you get the option to switch it on again. Orange 3G is utter crap anyway. Unfortunately I pretty much roam onto it whether I like it or not at my new address.
as usual i'm stumbling at the first block...
'copy the info from all three APN's'...
when i click on any of them all the settings are greyed out, i wonder what i'm doing wrong?
edit:
sussed and working fine now
Just about to do this.
Out of curiosity what is the Broadband APN for??
Is it a tethering only APN? e.g. Now tethering is removed from NEW Full Monty contract connections (of which i have one) If i tether, thus using that APN, will they be able to see that and have a go.
Or now tethering is removed will that APN not work?

I reckon tethering will work…. but will get charged…. and its likely to be expensive.
Seems a strange decision on TMO's part TBH, as they share part of the backhaul with 3 UK you would think that they could cope with extra bandwidth needed.
I assume the broadband APN is for tethering but as I say, if used then it will be billed. Just cos the handset/set up can do it, doesnt meant it wont go past the billing systems.

every since i got my GN it has had trouble sending or receiving MMS, doesnt matter if i'm on 3g or wifi
i have tried clearing the cache and force closing, this works about 20% of the time
anyone know of a fix for this?
From what I've experienced and know, you can't only send/receive MMS through 2g/3g, NOT wifi. MMS is a carrier based service, which is why it won't work on wifi. Some roms have the ability to download on Wi-Fi though, don't know of any here, but quite a few on the G2x.
Anyways, how long do you give it to send/receive till you decide that its a "failure"? It would also help to disable "auto retrieve" in the Messaging app.

This issue is most likely related to the apn settings provided by your carrier. I had this issue too, and found out on two separate carriers that I needed data on one, even though it said I didn't. On the other carrier, I just had the APN settings wrong, and that my current carrier allows MMS through 3g data without charging for it.

+1. This.
You need to verify your MMS APN settings with your carrier.

So I need to call sprint and say "I need to verify my mms apn settings?
Or is this something on my phone?
On your phone.
Settings >> More >> Mobile networks >> Access point names
You can probably find the correct settings on Sprints website somewhere or by googling Sprint APN

Am I blind or did they vanish? I go to SETTINGS --> MORE --> MOBILE NETWORKS, and I have 4 options... Data Enabled, Data Roaming, Network Mode, and System Select. Isn't this where one previously would have found APN settings? Are they somewhere else now? I've searched like hell and haven't found any mention of them being moved.
Aren't APN's a GSM thing? I'm not sure if you'll see that on a VZW CDMA device. On that screen on my GSM phone I also have Access Point Names

Well that would explain it. Why am I thinking you had to add APN info for MMS on a Verizon device though? Perhaps I'm confusing myself.

Open Voice Dialer and say "open apn settings" and bam, your in. And us CDMA users do have and use these settings for adding MMS settings if necessary.

Another VZW GNexer here. I absolutely cannot send MMS any more. Tried using voice to access the old apn settings menu, no luck. I can manually go into /system/etc/apns-conf.xml or /system/build.prop without issue and can access all apn-related text, but am not quite sure how to go about tackling the problem from there (wouldn't want to change the wrong setting).
I've done a bit of searching, and haven't quite found a solution that works for me on 4.2.1...
***Update***
Turns out, the issue was related to Handcent. No apn editing required. Go figure...

My phone doesnt take a sim
I recently purchased a new Sprint Z2 Force and activated it on Ting (it has only ever been on Ting and never on Sprint directly). Both Sprint and Ting support WiFi calling on this phone, but WiFi calling is not listed under the WiFi settings or in the Call settings of the dialer. However if I search in the settings for WiFi calling, I can see a WiFi Calling Settings in the App Info section, yet there is no way to turn it on or open those settings. I have updated the profile multiple times and also did a factory reset.
Am I missing something or is there something missing in the software since it never got activated directly on Sprint?
Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.
I do the custom rom thing and i sort of remember it just being there however, if you have not already checked "Mobile Networks" - under main phone settings, select "Network & Internet" once there, select "Mobile Network" - you'll see your carrier stuff/APN there I believe if you select "enhanced 4G LTE Mode" (you may have to make LTE you're preferred network mode in order to enable and/or display that option, again this was already there on mine. But see if that opened up any new menu items elsewhere i.e. back in the dialer app settings under "calls".
Did your phone come with a sprint SIM? Do you have the other carrier bloatware on there like Sprint ID? I know what you meant earlier about a possible software bypass, but all of that stuff is deff on the phone somewhere like you observed in App info, it may just be a matter of popping in a sprint SIM card to unleash it..
I continued to look into this for you. Sprint's name for Wifi calling is, well was -"Calling Plus". I found this article that advises one of the recent update removed the feature;
https://community.sprint.com/t5/Buz...alling-PLUS-Service-Decommission/ba-p/1017775
Since you got the sprint version you still have lots of software modification options. I also have sprint z2 foce, but I get better coverage on a GSM netwrok so my device is half sprint\half tmobile and I can deff say the wifi calling works. There's tons of information on here I can always help direct ya, but at least you're not crazy it WAS there.
lastly just to be sure, this has to be done prior,
"Log into your Ting account online and go to Device settings. Find the device you want to enable Wi-Fi calling for and click the edit icon in the Minutes section."

Thank you for all the info so far! Here are some answers and additional info:
My phone did come with a Sprint Sim in it and that is the one I am using. Also there is not any of the Sprint Bloatware on the phone. If I search "Sprint" in my settings area, there is a My Sprint Launcher that is listed as Disabled and there seems to be no way to enable it, which is similar to the WiFi Calling Settings that shows up when I do a search for it in the settings. Also if I look at the Apps and "Show System" apps, Mobile ID is there which is the Sprint ID software I believe, but again it is Disabled with no option to enable it.
The WiFi calling is turned on in the Ting account.
The Calling Plus feature was disabled by Sprint in that link you shared, but that just disables WiFi calling over LTE. It does say regular WiFi Calling should be available.
On my phone when I go to Network & Internet > Cellular Networks> I see my Preferred Network Type which was Automatic, I switched it to LTE/CDMA. That does not seem to have opened any additional settings for me in the dialer or elsewhere.
Thanks again for all your support. If you have any other suggestions, let me know, but you have offered a lot already.
