So have the most recent nightly update cm, always shows low signal bars, but have most recent radio, any idea?

+1. I also saw my phone go to 1x for the first time while running nightly 104. Not sure if it's actually worse signal or if it's just a different interpretation of the signal strength. Suppose you could verify the actual db values from one to another.

I am running CM 7.0.2.1 with Chad's 4/19 kernel. My Dinc gets 2/4 bars signal strength on 3g and 3/4 on 1x at home while my wie's Env 2 shows 4/4 on both. So I decided to try a the new 2.15.10.05.06 radio and the 9.01 radio. Both updated with no problems. My dBm changed little, if any. (77-85%) I'm now running 2.15.10.05.06 and seems to be snappier. The signal strength bars are still less than my wife's though. Why am I not seeing the same amount of bars as my wife? (I don't know how to check her dBm) I did a *228. I get four bars at work but not at home like my wife. (Same problem at our lake house) Is there anything I can do to make sure I get the best possible signal strength? Should I try more radios?
How many bars your phone or her phone has doesn't really mean anything. It varies from phone to phone and signal strength isn't reported properly just by looking at the bars. Checking your dbm is the only way to really see where your signal is and some people seem to report better reception with different radios although it never seemed to make much of a difference to me. I'd check out www.dougpiston.com for radios, try em out, and look at your dbm, GPS lock speed/accuracy, and data speed to determine which works the best for what you need.

Is there any way to update the PRL on CM 7? I'm at 52297 and I've seen where the latest is 52299.
I think the custom menus might only be accessible from sense roms, so #228 might be the only thing you can do in cm7. You could restore a sense backup, update prl, then restore your cm7 backup? There might be another way to do it, I'm not sure cause I've never messed with my prl.

Hey I was wondering why whenever I make a phone call my bars indicating signal decrease to 1 bar or none and my 3g symbol goes awayt any suggestions?
Currently on calkulins 1.8 rom,
El29 modem and i do update profile and prl atleast once a week, but no matter what modem or rom I am on this happens regardless

3g goes away cause you cannot run data and voice at the same time.
As for it going down to one bar? That could be because you are no longer connected to 3g.
Are you having a problem?
Correct.
When you're on a call, you're using the 1x network and you're seeing the signal strength for 1x. When you're NOT on a call, you're seeing the 3G network and it's signal strength.
What I find REALLY odd is that for most folks, they see the opposite. 1x has stronger signal than 3G.
I've noticed over the last couple of days that my phone shows that its not receiving Signal, its not los because I'm able to send and receive phone calls its just the gray signal bar that isn't working. How do i fix it? I need to be able to see my signal strength. Thanks ahead of time!

t is a known issue with most of the leaked builds that have come out recently. The bars for Wifi, 4G and 3G are all effected by it. It is purely visual.
If you'd like to confirm your actual signal strength, I'd recommend using a third party app to see what your actual signal is.
Supposedly it was fixed in FC15 or FC18 but I don't remember which it was.
Hope this helps!
That sounds about right to me, I appreciate the response. ^^

Can anyone help with an issue I get using AOSP/ICS roms. On a GB rom I normally get 1-4 bars of signal in my house, 3G speed is fairly rubbish but it does work. Whenever I flash any version of CM9 or AOKP I get 0-2 bars of signal, and mostly no mobile data.
The phone can be sitting on a table and show 2 blue bars, often if I pick it up it will change to none and give me network errors. I can normally still send texts and make calls when it is like this, just no data and things like Play Store fail to connect.
Calk's ICS rom may be a little better, but not much (the signal meter on Calk's bounces between 1x and 3G along with low bars).
Switching back to a GB rom I get all my signal back and the slow but actually working 3G. I have tried several modems on both GB and ICS and they show no difference in behaviour (I have tried EL29, FD10, FD16)
Since I have wifi at home it's not a real issue for data, however it seems to kill the battery searching for a signal. The "Time without a signal" shows 20-30% most of the time on ICS, vs 0% on GB.
Any ideas on why ICS roms are giving me no signal?
Cheers,
Richard
I've been getting the same thing but the connection seems to be the same as when I was getting more bars on GB. This is especially true when I'm using Wi-Fi. I'll get one bar of signal strength but it is still fast and I'm nor having connection problems.

i'm having a similar problem, only difference is that mine on ICS was working fine untill i softbricked and restoring back to ICS using CFRoot.. now i (just like you) have 0-2 bars, and have tried dozens of modems and kernels to fix the problem..
eh, maybe i should go back to GB too - see if that fixes my problem
If you search around these forums you'll find something bout getting rid of proxies that the sprint server uses... some people have reported great success and increased service while others have had no noticeable difference, I myself haven't gotten around to trying it, bit I still plan to, sorry I'm mobile right now and can't find the post, I'll see bout linking it when I get home

I've done this on a couple phones and I've gotten good improvements each time. It will only affect your 3g speeds and not 4g, and it's not a guaranteed improvement.. there are many factors that can affect. Check your speeds before and after to see if it helps you or not! =)

Hello,
I am running AOKP JB v1 on ATT Gnex. I havent installed any other kernels or radios. My issue is that, while i have full coverage in an area i know i have data, while my signal bars show full with "H" above them, i cannot get data. Cannot send picture messages or go to google market or use browser. I think i need to flash a different baseband or radio but i have no idea which one i should be using or what is compatible. Can somebody please point me in the right direction. It is rather annoying to loose data constantly.
Well I really need help now. I flashed a radio but obviously it wasnt meant for JB. I have signal enough to text and make phone calls but no data at all now. It shows all grey bars with the H above it. Can anybody link to a working JB radio/baseband for GSM please?
I believe i should be use 9250XXLF1 but i cannot find a download for it
Edit: Found it here:

Try going back to stock completely. I do think its rather a network issue. Do you have the correct data plan for it?

I have been using the UGKL1 radio on ATT in Northern California - has worked well for me. Obviously, radios are very dependent on location but this radio was a big improvement for me.
They changed something with the network, allot of users reporting issues of data drops because its switching from umts to hspa and hspap constantly.

I see it constantly changing between the listed signals although the status bars show full w/ "H" above them. Tried multiple different roms. I switched from lumia 900 to this phone so my plan is good up to LTE. Shouldnt have an issue w/ that. Would flashing a different radio help?
