looks like your just roaming to me.
LOS is actually a circle with a slash through it. No signal bars, no 3g or 4g. Just a circle with a slash.
that's roaming...
Ghostbuster emblem is lost of signal.
Well i get the circle with the slash through it whenever i airplane mode and un airpalne mode while roaming
Only fix id to rebbot phone and this only happened after rooting

I've been getting random "roaming" even when I typically have full signal strength at home. Enabling 4g and then disabling it usually fixes it for me.
I thought this was LOS too, but it isn't. The symbol would have a slash on it if it were.
LOS
Furthermore, just the circle with a line isn't LOS, that comes up normally in some circumstances I think. It has to also not come back even when you go into a good service area no longer how long you wait until you reboot.
When are they sending an OTA to fix this?
Not LOS, try going in and out of airplane mode, can help get off roaming if you care. A little airplane widget becomes helpful if its repeated.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
That can be considered LOS, but the more frustrating one is the one where the phone showes you have signal but texts fail, calls freeze the phone app, and internet doesn't work. Only way to fix is to reboot.
I live in the suburbs of Houston where the WiMAX coverage is kind of spotty. If I leave an area of coverage for more than like say a minute, my 4G will stop attempting to scan for a new 4G signal and never attempt to reconnect even if I enter a new area with 4G coverage. I have to manually toggle the connection in the notification bar.
I've searched the forums and noticed several posts describing the same issue.
Does anyone have a solution?

I have seen this issue as well, do you use bluetooth? I know its a random question but I have only noticed this issue with mine when I have the bluetooth on.

Bluetooth is not turned for on my device.
Bump. Anyone else having this issue?
I'm using the phone app so I don't know the link, but there's a link in general, I think, that describes increasing 4g performance. There's two simple tweaks to do and some involved ones. I just did the two simple ones. One is to change the retry interval down to 15 seconds and the minimum signal level for 4g lock is -110db. Those two changes made a noticeable improvement on fringe areas and inside for me.

I did those tweaks, that is not the issue. I have tried all the WiMax_Scan_Retry from 1 to 300 and the WiMAX will never reconnect.
For example: I do not have 4G at school and I have 4G at home. If I drive to school, the 4G will disconnect.
Then when I drive home back into 4G coverage and go to sleep even after 10 hours, the 4G will not reconnect.
Bump!!! Also have this issue.

Try doing what most people do, when you know your leaving a 4g area turn it off. Then turn it back on when you get home. No sense in wasting battery. That and it only takes a couple seconds to turn out back on and reconnect.

I have extended battery that will literally last days even with 4G on so that is not an issue for me. Besides, this is not a viable solution if I want 4G in the car and it moves in and out of areas of spotty coverage. 3G where I live is about as fast as 1x.
Mod? Rooted? Modem?
Is your phone software on stock?
What OTA updates/mods are you running?
Kernel/Modem versions?
It would be good to know of the people seeing these problems have similar software/mods/modems.

I agree. Post your setup in detail. It will help to narrow this issue down. For example I had similar prob's on EL13 modem but with 26/29 flash all is good.
So more info plz.

I tried these:
Stock/Stock+Root/Starburst/Caulkin
EK02/EL26/EL29
Rogue1.3/1.4
This may be an example where adjusting the WiMax settings in ##data# with MSL number will help. Try lowering minimum signal picked up from -89 to -110, you can also change how long it stays connected and how fast it reconnects too...and here's where to read about it all...I did it on my OG Epic, Nexus, and this phone but slightly modified settings..it could also be a kernel thing too. Some of the Nexus ICS ones do that and wont reconnect until you go into settings and toggle

Ok now it's time to go to your local sprint store. Im outa ideas. You have done morethan most B4 choking a rep.LoL.
I have this same problem.. Sometimes sitting in the living room. When im outside i get 4 bars of 4g but inside i get 1. if some reason i get disconected, it seems to switch over to 3g and stay there without scanning again. If i walk outside again, still stays 3g until i toggle off and on 4g again....
UNnamed with EL29 leaked modem flashed with Gunslinger kern.......

Anyone know of an app that will toggle 4g for us when it loses connection?
Or maybe a tasker profile? I tried in tasker, but I can't seem to get it to do more than basic things. There a couple spots in town that always lose 4g when I drive by and never reconnects as well. 3g is slower than when I use roam control on 1x verizon.
How's it going everyone. Just left sprint for T-Mobile. Even with the problems I'm having its still better than sprint crappy network. Anyways. For some reason no matter what ROM I'm on I'm having issues where the WiFi will turn off it will go to 4g than WiFi will randomly turn back on. Or I'll have great service than randomly I'll see an E near my signal bars and it slows down for a good 5 minutes. Any idea what may be causing the problem?

Make sure WiFi calling is disabled. Then go into Mobile Networks and change Network mode to WCDMA Only. See if that helps.

Well if you are getting the E, that's Tmobile's network for ya. It is quite spotty. I get the same thing and goes back to 4G soon after. One of my main gripes with Tmobile.
If you do what DocHoliday said, it won't work at all. Just won't have any signal at all. If you leave it to auto, you will at least get the EDGE network.
Did this do the same thing with your old phone? If not, not sure what the deal would be besides weak radio maybe.
Try using the Llama app to force wifi on and disable the radios when around specific locations?
That's a workaround though...

Its worth a shot. I had issues with staying on 4G when I first got the phone. That fixed it for me.
Spotty service depends upon your area imo. Sounds more like a network issue to me. Could be a side effect from all the refarming work they're doing on the network. Its a nationwide project so it can hapoen anywhere.
@op
If you turn off WiFi does it work as it should? If so check that WiFi calling isn't enabled and set to WiFi preferred. If it is turn it off and test, then if fixed turn it back on and try Cellular preferred.

For what it's worth, I had this issue yesterday out of the blue. Nearly every time I would unlock my phone, wifi would be disconnected and I'd see the 4G icon. After unlocking the phone, a few seconds later it would connect up to wifi again. And yes, this is even with wifi set to always on in the advanced settings.
I realize there could be multiple causes for this symptom, but the fix for me was simply forget the wifi network and connect up to it again and the issue disappeared since then. Hasn't happened today yet either.
I urgently need a solution to fix a reception issue with the GNex,
I have tried multiple radios, ROMs, etc but I am still only getting one bar or no bars when my X10 gets full reception, sometimes I can get the phone to stay with full reception and it never drops, until I turn my internet on, then it disappears completely again. When I dial USSD codes, my reception is full again, until I end the USSD code, then it drops.
Thanks for the replis

I have tried 3 different Networks, all give the same issue.
The phone used to have reception, until the JB upgrade, rolling back to ICS didn't help either
Sounds like a hardware issue
Sounds like an area issue otherwise your bars would not fluctuate. Don't compare the signal on the phone to others, you will never have the exact same results. hardware issues would result in having no signal not weak signal.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
it could possibly be just an issue with your settings. try tinkering around with using either 2G, 3G, or 2G/3G signal. I had this same problem with my Galaxy Ace before, and now with my brother's Galaxy S3.
Thanks for the replies everyone, I have sent the phone in to Samsung, the area I am in has reception for all networks, the Nexus randomly loses reception, from what I've read it might be a deep sleep issue, I have been through all the settings, I'm not a noob with droids, anyway, I'm more inclined to believe it's a hardware issue

I did already, I tried the ICS stock ROM, and the JB Stock ROM, both gave the same issue, custom ROMs did the same, radios\basebands did not help, so now I wait for Samsung
When I am home I have little or no LTE coverage, and even though in network its set to LTE and CDMA, it never seems to switch to CDMA even though I have like no LTE coverage at home. I never have more then 2 bars, usually I have 1 or no service at all.
And WiFi calling is unreliable as well. Often it says it's logged in but it doesn't work, it it fails to login and then apparently doesn't try to login again. If I turn WiFi on and off, the WiFi calling usually then logs in.
Anyhow, if I can't get the phone to automatically switch over to CDMA or if I can't get WiFi calling to work reliably, I'm going to cancel my sprint service since my phone isn't really usable at home. I don't want to put the phone into CDMA only since I would have to reboot the phone every time I go outside to get back on LTE
BTW, I get great LTE signal right outside my house.

staying on wifi doesn't really help me since wifi calling doesnt seem to be very reliable. Right now staying on lte seems like a better option since at least i can see when i have no signal. Wifi calling half the time says it's logged in, but it doesnt work.
you may need to get an airave since you aren't having service in the house. Just call up sprint and let them know what is going on and ask for one. Hope this helps!
I'm just worried the airwave well be as reliable as the wifi calling since it's essentially the same thing.
I wonder if there's something in android I can tweak that will make the phone jump to CDMA if the 4g signal it too weak.
I've noticed that if I have one bar and make a call, it almost always jumps to full bars as soon as I started the call. I'm guessing it's jumping over to CDMA. But why doesn't it do that when the phone is idle?

I believe that the bars you see before initiating a call are the data signal strength. When you press the call icon the phone Radio switches to cell 1x signal. which is usually pretty good in most urban areas and that is why you would see the signal bars jump to full strength.
My wife uses WiFi calling at home and it works very well. Maybe disconnect your phone from the router and do a restart/reset of your router. Then reconnect.

I've tried turning the wifi on and off on the phone. That will usually get it to work, but I have no way of knowing if it keeps working since as I said, it will sometimes say it's logged into the wifi calling but not work.
I tend to think it's not an issue with my router since every other online activity works great, including skype or streaming 4k videos on Netflix

The Wi-Fi icon is also a signal strength indicator. When on Wi-Fi the signal bars to the right are mobile data, then when you receive or make a call they switch to cell tower reception strength. When I'm on wifi and see only one signal bar next to it I know that I'm on LTE. if I see full signal bars and I'm not ona call, I know I'm on 3G. if I turn off wifi I will see either the LTE with 1 bar or 3G icon with full signal. this is at my house so its always the same and its a easy way to check how the signal strength indicators work on your phone. make sense?

I have two signal strength indicators on my phone. One for wifi, and one for call (or data). So i don't really understand how the wifi icon is also a signal strength indicator since there are two separate icons for that. Why would the phone show an indicator of the strength of data if I am on wifi and not using the data connection? On my phone (note 4, rooted but stock) i pretty much always have full wifi signal strength, but i have have zero bars/no service on the signal strength icon and when that happens, if anyone tries calling me, it never comes through. I don't have anything in the missed call log - just no call. Can't send a txt either.
The next time the phone drops to zero bars/no service and i happen to have someone else with a non-sprint phone, i'll try calling myself just to confirm the behavior.
