Kind of a silly question, but would you really use your phone to watch your movies on a big screen? I mean I guess if you didn't have ANY other solution. But these days it's hard to imagine someone who doesn't have a PC or a dvd/bluray player to watch movies on or something. Maybe if you were traveling or something...
I've thought about the hdmi cable but can't think of a single instance when I would actually use it....

I have lots of movies and tv shows on my phone and I have the cable and watch them when I go to friends houses or when I'm at work. It's nice to be able to do so.

I would like to stream Netflix to HDMI when its released. Kind of like a portable movie rental box. I think its a pretty reasonable question.

Im a bit of a perv, but there are s few adult only content apps that stream out via hdmi that look much better on a 55inch instead of a 4incher, some people say size dont matter, but they're all men
........lol

Video out cable

I have to wonder if the cable for the incredible will work with my phone. Mytouch. I have seen one for video composite and one for hdmi. Maybe if it fits someone could handle the software if needed.
Amp International Inc.
The mytouch doesnt have the hardware for video out, its not the fact of finding a cable, its the fact that the phone doesnt support it.
I suppose they abondoned that in favor of DLNA (UPnP). Of course the finest hotels are only now putting in composite video jacks. DLNA is a LONG LONG way in the future for the main stream.
Still, I did sit on the couch and streamed from my Glacier (via 802.11g) to a PS3 COMPONENT out to a 52" LCD. The picture was shockingly good. Had the occasional glitch, but that was as likely as not the LAN.
How do you set things up to stream from the my4g to the ps3?
Great DLNA Device
Just for those interested:
I bought a WDTV Live a little while back for about $65 on sale. Its an awesome little box, especially with the latest firmware update. (They are always developing firmwares improvements with added features and there is a sizable community of people running hacked firmwares)
Anyways, it runs all of my video files in Full 1080p (all of them that I use, but not every one that exists) and actually has some support for DVD menus for my rips. It does YouTube, Pandora, Flickr, MediaFly, pulls from my Central Axis (NAS), and most importantly to MT4G users, it does DLNA.
I'm actually going to buy a "WDTV Live PLUS" box which does everything that this one does but also handles Netflix (now) and Blockbuster On Demand (soon).
Here's a TV-out cable for those who don't have/use DLNA.MT4G TV-out Cable

Honestly, I don't know. The cable is HTC branded OEM product and is sold for the G2, Incredible, N1, and others. Amazon sells the cable for $17 and you could surely return it to them no problem. You could call HTC and ask about compatibility.
tv out
well i have a 52 inch flat screen tv,,with all sorts of connections on the back and side,,it also has a USB connection,,,,i hooked my phone right up to the tv,,and the tv actually see's my memory card,,,you can view your pics and videos < if the videos are formatted for the tv to see> and you can use the oem data cable that come with the phone.
Not trying to bring back from the dead, but have done much searching only to come up with mixed opinions. Does this phone have Video out capabilities via a component cable?

[Q] 1080p output from HDMI?

Hey guys I have been using the GN with 720p for a while and it's fine an all but I want to try and get 1080p output, is this possible?
I have been using the Samsung G2 MHL cables.
Thanks in advance.
Only if you play movies in 1080p i think. Not the homescreen itself.
Where do you guys get movies in 1080p for phones? Legally of course
Sent from my iPad 3G using Tapatalk
Depending on where you live, you could use something like MakeMKV to rip your BluRays (in sane parts of the world that would fall under fair use, in other parts the MPAA would track you down and beat you with your own entrails for causing millions of dollars in losses by watching a movie you bought on a device for which it was not intended).
However, since the MHL adapter mirrors the screen I highly doubt you'll get anything more or less than 720p without going through an upscaler which would kind of defeat the purpose.

If you just want a short for testing or demonstration, download a few official Angry Birds shorts off youtube with some extra programs . They are available in 1080p MP4 versions. I have a few of them on my phone.
Shooting off on a tangent here, anyone tried those MHL dongles off ebay?

[Q] t mobile|s II|2.3.6|TV Out ROM

I need some pointers for a good ROM/kernel which supports TV out for this device.
I am aware of the various uPnp and transcoding apps over wifi which not all the time stream lossless quality. Please suggest me a tested ROM or point me to a thread which lists a good ROM with TV out capabilities for gingerbread 2.3.6.
Appreciate your help.

Yeah, that's the only bad part about this. If you don't have a tv that streams, you have to buy the adapter which ain't cheap.
That's about the only thing I liked on my G2X, that it had a hdmi port.
Powered by the SGSII....
It can stream through my xbox or ps3 but you need a 3rd party app. I dont really care for DLNA its a great concept but its really choppy when trying to stream a movie from your phone..music and pictures are great tho...

yeah.. il need one.. i had one but still i have tried various roms but it still doesn't work. i have a Samsung tv for the matter... 720p resolution. the adapter it's authentic. so maybe it's a.bad adapter n not a bad Rom?

Darkside was my last hope and it has not failed me. I have been using this ROM starting 2.2a version. TV out definitely works.
Im using the Mx Video player which has capabilities to show subtitles out of the mkvs (most other players dont) which are not attached to the video. Both of these are a good combination. Do you guys know any other better player?
The audio however is a bit downscaled and the 720p is a bit pixelish. (you can see the bigger pixels if you get closer). Both stock player and mxvideo player did this. so im thinking it could be a phone limitation.
Still Darkside was the only ROM I saw for now which has been running stable for TV Outs..
And btw, Darkside just released Darkside 2.4 .http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473077

Don't know how to explain set-up but look into an app called Twonky. I searched Youtube on how to set it up. I turn my bluray player on and can play any file from my phone through a home network. My TV is older and doesn't have the capability but my bluray player does. Hope it helps
I think i figured it out i was looking at the pic and just found out you have to have a MHL to HDMI Adapter from samsung and you can view everything your doing on your phone to your tv just like that! I also found a video of someone using the HDMI adapter http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ej94ZiyQaVk&feature=related..... So cool i can stream anything i find online to my tv!
I can't wait for the wireless adapter to come out. I saw a Sprint rep show off the HTC Evo LTE's ability to cast phone content to a tv via HTC 's wireless adapter, it's a pretty cool feature.

I've connected to a Sony bdpbx59 and Samsung bd5700 blu ray players.
Both displayed pictures fine but streamed the videos very choppy on both usb and Wi-Fi connection.
I messed with it for a few days and couldn't figure out if it was the players or something i massed in configuration.
What kind of not ray player are you using?
Do you stream via Wi-Fi or are you connecting your phone to your blu Ray via usb?

Try this
This cable: amazon.com/Adapter-HDMI-EPL-3FHU-Samsung-Galaxy/dp/B0080CXSOU/ref=sr_1_16?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1345493155&sr=1-16
It mirrors everything and is available now so if you really want to be able to do that, this should work. If you can deal with it not being wireless it should work fine.

why does this have to be rediculously expensive? sure it would be nice to connect the cord and easily watch youtube video's and etc., but what other purpose would you need to stream video from ur phone to ur tv? i'm not a huge android gamer so that is kind of out of the question too.. $40 is a bit much to justify it's purpose :/ then there is business uses where people might use this at work for presentations, which i won't need to do.. this is a very expensive adapter

Nobody actually buys official samsung adapters, they are way too overpriced.
There's this MHL cable for $11 and an adapter tip for the SGS3 for $10 so it comes out to $21.
Hell, I'd pay up to $80 for it since other things you can buy for the same purpose are $200 or more - PS3, Bluray player, etc. These other devices can't even do nearly the same (no MKV, AVI, etc.).
With the MHL cable, I can just download a movie on my phone and watch it on the TV.
I guess it doesn't matter much if you aren't a huge TV/Movie watcher, but I ditched Comcast TV and now I watch usually 1 movie a day and a bunch of TV shows every time I discover a new (good) series. The way I watch these is with the MHL cable through the TV.
Another option
There is another option, if you are just looking to play videos on your phone on your television. If you have a ps3 or some other device capable of finding media servers you could just connect to your phone (there are some apps on the market that will let you do that). Only problem is that on ps3, cinavia protection might stop you.

Alright, I've found 1,000 walkthrough's for streaming video's through an HDTV, but what about for those of us that still haven't upgraded to one? I don't watch mainstream television, and I don't really play console video games so I've seen no need to make the upgrade. It would be nice if I could figure out a way to connect it via RCA because although I don't personally watch TV/WHATEVER I do occasionally have guests that do!!! My idea would be starting with the original cable, running it through HDMI, and then something like this: http://dx.com/p/greenconnection-hdm...campaign=124&gclid=COaks-_s5rgCFQE6Qgod7DkATg
It sounds good in theory, but that'd be a good $70 all together and an unnecessary amount of cabling... Any alternative/cheaper suggestions/anybody that's actually tried this???
Afraid you'd have to use the rca adaptor when going with an older tv. Had to pick on up for our tablet and my daughter's tv. Keep in mind (didn't look at the specs in your link) that you also want to make sure that your phone can get power *and* be connected through hdmi. Our tablet has separate power and hdmi connections. Not so much on the s3

Try using the Netgear PTV3000 Miracast adapter. It is compatible with Allshare cast. I've been using for several months and works great for mirroring whatever is on your screen and is wireless. I think it also supports 5.1 sound and 1080p.

mhl to hdmi adapter

Just bought 2 from Mertiline... i'm new here and cannot post link so here's product code #0005278. Price is 9.99 but if you buy 2 you'll get at 8.50 each. They're working good, i've just watch 720p video that i took with my T989D and quality is very nice.
That's cool. Im thinking of getting one too. Didn't know they were so reasonable.

Im using the samsung one..really great quality. was $20.00 @ frys i think?..read somewhere that some third party MHL adapters messed the phone up so i decided to use the factory recommended one:good:
i remember seeing the mertiline deal...was about to jump on it, until i realize it doesn't allow me to plug in the charger. I think I'll be ordering one from monoprince that adds an inline USB charging port. But good to see the video quality is good via the converter.
Quality
How is the quality? I want to use mine to watch youtube and downloaded videos on my TV. Is the quality comparable to connecting my laptop to my tv via hdmi.
Thanks

Sorry for the delay, i could not say is comparable to HDMI with your laptop but it's still very nice to watch. I tried youtube videos, WMV, AVI, and 720P MKV Videos without problem,...You can notice some small blur when there.s a lot of movements in the videos. Maybe the Original Samsung Adapter is better than this one, i don't know i don't have one in my hand to compare...

I've read other threads saying the ones from e-bay it's a hit and miss... some works some don't!!!
Did you try to reboot while it is plugged ?
I bought the cheapest one I could find for like $5 and it works great. The adapter doesn't seem to work with any of the JellyBean roms, just ICS and lower if that helps.
whenever i use my sgs2 with a MHL adapter the phone goes into 'auto rotation out of control mode' when i switch inputs on the target device. i'm sure it has something to do with it losing HDMI sync, but i've never seen a fix for it which is so damn annoying.
other than that it's pretty nifty.
