Just bought 2 from Mertiline... i'm new here and cannot post link so here's product code #0005278. Price is 9.99 but if you buy 2 you'll get at 8.50 each. They're working good, i've just watch 720p video that i took with my T989D and quality is very nice.
That's cool. Im thinking of getting one too. Didn't know they were so reasonable.

Im using the samsung one..really great quality. was $20.00 @ frys i think?..read somewhere that some third party MHL adapters messed the phone up so i decided to use the factory recommended one:good:
i remember seeing the mertiline deal...was about to jump on it, until i realize it doesn't allow me to plug in the charger. I think I'll be ordering one from monoprince that adds an inline USB charging port. But good to see the video quality is good via the converter.
Quality
How is the quality? I want to use mine to watch youtube and downloaded videos on my TV. Is the quality comparable to connecting my laptop to my tv via hdmi.
Thanks

Sorry for the delay, i could not say is comparable to HDMI with your laptop but it's still very nice to watch. I tried youtube videos, WMV, AVI, and 720P MKV Videos without problem,...You can notice some small blur when there.s a lot of movements in the videos. Maybe the Original Samsung Adapter is better than this one, i don't know i don't have one in my hand to compare...

I ordered an mhl adapter off eBay with inline charger ... but it doesn't seem to work... it charges my phone but I get nothing on my television... :/ I have it on proper input .... is there something I am missing?

I've read other threads saying the ones from e-bay it's a hit and miss... some works some don't!!!
Did you try to reboot while it is plugged ?
I bought the cheapest one I could find for like $5 and it works great. The adapter doesn't seem to work with any of the JellyBean roms, just ICS and lower if that helps.
whenever i use my sgs2 with a MHL adapter the phone goes into 'auto rotation out of control mode' when i switch inputs on the target device. i'm sure it has something to do with it losing HDMI sync, but i've never seen a fix for it which is so damn annoying.
other than that it's pretty nifty.

I need some pointers for a good ROM/kernel which supports TV out for this device.
I am aware of the various uPnp and transcoding apps over wifi which not all the time stream lossless quality. Please suggest me a tested ROM or point me to a thread which lists a good ROM with TV out capabilities for gingerbread 2.3.6.
Appreciate your help.

Yeah, that's the only bad part about this. If you don't have a tv that streams, you have to buy the adapter which ain't cheap.
That's about the only thing I liked on my G2X, that it had a hdmi port.
Powered by the SGSII....
It can stream through my xbox or ps3 but you need a 3rd party app. I dont really care for DLNA its a great concept but its really choppy when trying to stream a movie from your phone..music and pictures are great tho...

Darkside was my last hope and it has not failed me. I have been using this ROM starting 2.2a version. TV out definitely works.
Im using the Mx Video player which has capabilities to show subtitles out of the mkvs (most other players dont) which are not attached to the video. Both of these are a good combination. Do you guys know any other better player?
The audio however is a bit downscaled and the 720p is a bit pixelish. (you can see the bigger pixels if you get closer). Both stock player and mxvideo player did this. so im thinking it could be a phone limitation.
Still Darkside was the only ROM I saw for now which has been running stable for TV Outs..
And btw, Darkside just released Darkside 2.4 .http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473077

Both together is nearly impossible, but you are lucky!
We have a priceworthy and good MHL-adaptare (which i think yopu need): http://goo.gl/aD8T7
Shipping to UK is 4€ extra btw.
I got the samsung one from amazon at 13 euros. Decent enough but no HD video. Not with the somesung one or any other adapter i tried. Just keeps the Phones resolution. Fun to play games and maybe a movie though

that's for £15 and claimed to be official. Took almost a week to deliver but worked without fault. Going by few reviews of "cheap" adapters, it seemed hit n miss thingy. Thought price is in middle for something genuine.
I can't vouch for the quality of this as I'm waiting for mine to be delivered (only ordered it this morning), but for a tenner I'm not complaining...

Just got ICS on my phone and tried the HDMI adapter. It seems that it has better quality with ICS. Don't know if it upscales the resolution but it seems clearer.
edit: So the output is 1080p but the upscaling isn't always the best. especially in games where the downloades files are for 800x480. In movies and photos it works great though.

Argh hope it doesn't take a week to arrive, only ordered mine today
Decided at that price it just wasn't worth saving a couple of quid to get one that might work but likely have worse build quality.
Also ordered a HDMI to DVI cable from there for a stupidly low price of £2..
What's the actual conclusion on the SGS2s HDMI out? I've seen scattered reports of some people getting full 1080p out, others can't get any higher than the native 480x800. Then there's the Video Player app designed specifically for HD playback.
I'm getting 1080 with ICS but only on Videoplayback.
Tried several apps to resize the density for "office use" - everytime i had to reflash...

Used to be 480p but in ICS works like a charm. BUT the app you are running has to be in HD or the phone upscales it a bit but not an actual HD quality. In movies it rocks.

To me MX player works perfect, no problems with the stock samsung player.
Anyway even while the phone upscales the picture if you are at a big screen from the right distance you do not see bad quality. It is actually more than good. In photo gallery the quality is great, same on videos with any player. Only problem? Games. cause the downloaded files are for 800x480 which is low resolution if plagged on a 1080p tv.

Video resolution is independent of the phones native screen resolution. If the phone is 480*800 and the video is 1920*1080, then provided the media player can output 1080, and the tv being outputted to can display 1080, then the video will be 1080.

What if say the video is 720p and your screen only goes up to 720p
My 22" monitor can't do 1080i so I appear to be stuck at 720x480
I got this one from Amazon for £6.99 and a HDMI cable for £2.25, I've only tried it with my TV (which can only do up to 1080i) and I get 1080i on it, no problems at all.
I haven't tried it with my monitor yet (I got it mainly to watch films on my TV without having to burn any disks/buy a NAS or anything) but I can try it to see the 1080p output if requested.
From what I understood it doesn't support 1080p

I think i figured it out i was looking at the pic and just found out you have to have a MHL to HDMI Adapter from samsung and you can view everything your doing on your phone to your tv just like that! I also found a video of someone using the HDMI adapter http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ej94ZiyQaVk&feature=related..... So cool i can stream anything i find online to my tv!
I can't wait for the wireless adapter to come out. I saw a Sprint rep show off the HTC Evo LTE's ability to cast phone content to a tv via HTC 's wireless adapter, it's a pretty cool feature.

Both displayed pictures fine but streamed the videos very choppy on both usb and Wi-Fi connection.
I messed with it for a few days and couldn't figure out if it was the players or something i massed in configuration.
What kind of not ray player are you using?
Do you stream via Wi-Fi or are you connecting your phone to your blu Ray via usb?

why does this have to be rediculously expensive? sure it would be nice to connect the cord and easily watch youtube video's and etc., but what other purpose would you need to stream video from ur phone to ur tv? i'm not a huge android gamer so that is kind of out of the question too.. $40 is a bit much to justify it's purpose :/ then there is business uses where people might use this at work for presentations, which i won't need to do.. this is a very expensive adapter

Nobody actually buys official samsung adapters, they are way too overpriced.
There's this MHL cable for $11 and an adapter tip for the SGS3 for $10 so it comes out to $21.
Hell, I'd pay up to $80 for it since other things you can buy for the same purpose are $200 or more - PS3, Bluray player, etc. These other devices can't even do nearly the same (no MKV, AVI, etc.).
With the MHL cable, I can just download a movie on my phone and watch it on the TV.
I guess it doesn't matter much if you aren't a huge TV/Movie watcher, but I ditched Comcast TV and now I watch usually 1 movie a day and a bunch of TV shows every time I discover a new (good) series. The way I watch these is with the MHL cable through the TV.
Another option
There is another option, if you are just looking to play videos on your phone on your television. If you have a ps3 or some other device capable of finding media servers you could just connect to your phone (there are some apps on the market that will let you do that). Only problem is that on ps3, cinavia protection might stop you.

Alright, I've found 1,000 walkthrough's for streaming video's through an HDTV, but what about for those of us that still haven't upgraded to one? I don't watch mainstream television, and I don't really play console video games so I've seen no need to make the upgrade. It would be nice if I could figure out a way to connect it via RCA because although I don't personally watch TV/WHATEVER I do occasionally have guests that do!!! My idea would be starting with the original cable, running it through HDMI, and then something like this: http://dx.com/p/greenconnection-hdm...campaign=124&gclid=COaks-_s5rgCFQE6Qgod7DkATg
It sounds good in theory, but that'd be a good $70 all together and an unnecessary amount of cabling... Any alternative/cheaper suggestions/anybody that's actually tried this???
Afraid you'd have to use the rca adaptor when going with an older tv. Had to pick on up for our tablet and my daughter's tv. Keep in mind (didn't look at the specs in your link) that you also want to make sure that your phone can get power *and* be connected through hdmi. Our tablet has separate power and hdmi connections. Not so much on the s3

Try using the Netgear PTV3000 Miracast adapter. It is compatible with Allshare cast. I've been using for several months and works great for mirroring whatever is on your screen and is wireless. I think it also supports 5.1 sound and 1080p.
I just had a question about the MHL resolution on the T989, will it output in 1080? I have a cheap MHL adapter and it wont do anything higher than 480P, any suggestions?

Here is a link to the crappy ones that apparently fall apart while trying to hook them up. On the one I tried to use the Micro USB Charging port connector ripped right out of the HDMI Plug in part. Pure Crap!!! Dont buy these!!

Another thing to note. While using the Netflix app.
It appears that Gingerbread has much worse resolution then Ice Cream Sandwich. My phone is up to date with latest ICS Rom and my Wife's phone is still on GB because I have not gotten around to updating it to the latest version. Her's looks like crap when using the same MHL cable whereas when hooked up to mine, it looks much better. I also notice that her phone will try to output widescreen 16:9 format while mine outputs what looks like 4:3.
Just info I have noticed since using my Samsung MHL Cable.
I have only tried a couple different things with the cable, couple games and facebook, those appear to render fine. I suppose I really need to try and play a video with the built in player or youtube next.
Finally bought the expensive mhl adapter for the s3 and after hooking up my phone to my samsung px2370 1080p monitor, I don't like what I'm seeing. Have you contacted Samsung? Just asking as it might be a simple setup tweak required.

Im thinking its because I'm rooted to be honest, it works by shutting off the device first then plugging everything in then turning it on and it's supposed to pick up from there but nothing happens. The same with my One S.

You're saying it works, but it doesn't work?? Are you using the official s3 mhl adapter?

It might just be my pc monitor. I can't even get it to work with my computer via hdmi (dvi works though, as well as with my 360 and ps3). The adapter looks legit to me. I'll be trying it on a different tv and/monitor in a bit

I bought the new MHL adapter as soon as it was available from Samsung. Output from applications like Netflix is reduced quality, this is intentional by the Netflix app. If you play a HD movie, you will see the quality is very good.
My only problem was lag. It looked good, but it was the equivalent of playing a video game with a framerate of around 20 FPS, it made gaming impossible and movies frustrating. I was told it may be my MHL adapter, but I haven't gotten a new one yet.
Saying it's the adapter is the easy answer. I have one that works perfectly on almost any LCD TV I have tried, but on LCD monitors, I have issues usually. I have used it with an HDMI to DVI cable, and got the exact result you described. I think it has something to do with the monitor not recognizing the native output. I haven't used it on an HDMI monitor.
I can confirm it works quite well on almost all TV's.
Ok I think I know what the problem is now. Seems like the s3 only outputs tp 1080i, that explains the flickering and fuzziness on my Led monitor. Is there no mod or hack to at least make it output at 720p instead (since 1080p would probably be to demanding)? Why would samsung stick to just 1080i? Was it the same with previous phones like the s2?

Now that I'm on the puter it's gonna be easier to explain, I bought a T-Mobile MHL kit when
I got the HTC One S and rooted the device but for some reason it wouldn't work with it so
about a month after I had the One S I bought the GS3 and rooted it (still have both) and
tried it with this one and still nothing.
I was told by a few that it might not work on a rooted device but after doing the research it
seems that I'm the only one having this problem but I figured trying it on a different device
should show something, I'm at the point now that I'm sure it's the MHL kit and not a root
problem.
AFAIK only 1 cable/adapter exists that works with the s3 and its an official samsung product. Previous mhl adapters won't work due to a change in pin layout to the connector so if you bought one that isn't marked for the s3, the most likely isn't compatible and won't work. Even official s2 mhl adapters won't work

It figures, I should just restore the One S to stock or sell it but on another note I just posted a tutorial for anyone interested on how to use the GS3 and the PS3 as a media server, connections and settings if you have a PS3 already. In the T-mobile general section.
