[Q] HELP. Think I'm bricked... - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi people,
I was running Defrost 4.9 happily in the browser, when the phone froze. I pulled the battery and restarted, but now only get the white HTC bootscreen for an indefinite amount of time. I've tried booting to recovery but the same thing happens, I can't get to the red exclamation screen, just the white bootscreen indefinitely.
Ive tried clearing the storage on the fastboot screen, but no luck.
Please help guys. :'(

Prob best to go back to stock and start again...

Well did you S-OFF? If not, boot into Fastboot and flash a RUU appropriate for your device. Do you have a goldcard, slcd screen?

N00by qn coming up, what's S-OFF?
I can get into fastboot, but not recovery, how do you flash in Fastboot? The SD card I have in there is a goldcard.

Can you download clockworkmod and put it onto the sd card and then boot that recovery?

Security-OFF, if you don't know what it is. Then you don't have it.
Since you got an unbranded desire, get the 1.21 WWE generic ROM from here. Boot into fastboot and run that RUU from your windows computer(Make sure you connected it via USB).

I actually had the orange branded one, but unlocked and rooted it, so I'm guessing the unbranded one should be fine...
Thankyou so much.

I get the following message from the setup:
The ROM update utility cannot update your Android phone.
Please get the correct ROM update utility and try again.
As far as I know, there isn't one online for the orange branded ones...
Any other ideas?

Moved to Q&A as not development.

Eh you need to be in the phone to flash recovery via unrevoked.
@OP - Are you positive that the goldcard works and is inserted in the phone?

[Q] Bricked Desire plz help

hello everybody...
a friend of mine just gave me his desire, he bought a used one and tried something to update its rom, but now its bricked and its in my hand to be fixed.
the problem is that it doesnt boot at all... i mean when i press power button to make it on, the htc logo appears and starts again and again with a little VIBRATE. so i can say that its in a boot loop.
ok when i press vol down and power button it goes into the boot loader, where it is written that its S-ON with boot loader .93, and when i click on recovery it goes into the boot loop like i wrote above.
i also have a Desire HTC and it is rooted using unrevoked and i m running an HD rom over it. its a complete packaged phone...
i have a knowlege how to root and etc. but in this bricked desire case i dont know what to do. coz it never happened to me... i also searched the forum for a solution, didnt got any.
please help me in this matter... ask me question and please give me a solution,/

i tried to install the rom by downloading this RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00. 32U_5.11.05.27_release
i think it is working, but it says while installing that from image 2.33..... to imrage 2.29.... and then it tries to push everyting i mean tryies to run its setup and within 2 min it says Customer ID error, try someother package...
edit 1: i itried your way also by copying that zip file and then pasting it on the sd card... i sucessfully loaded in fastboot but i think the same error as above,,, CID error...
now what can i do?
edit 2: Have also tried unrevoked in fastboot mode... power on fastboot usb and then starting unrevoked, but unrevoked keep saying to connect device and enable usb debugging mode. nothing happens
thanks Hassan
1. Download this:
http://www.multiupload.com/LEJCW182AH
2. Follow this guide to get the ZIP out of the RUU and flash off the SD card:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10509780&postcount=102
Assuming the phone is unbranded it'll work, or at least get the phone booting again. If it fails flashing the ROM for any reason then it's a branded phone and you'll need to speak to the seller to find out where it's from

I think that easier way not loosing the root would be flash once again recovery were you using clockwork recovery? Beside if the phone is branded you will need a goldcard
so i think you should instal adb http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/06/how-to-set-up-adb-usb-drivers-for-android-devices/
then you need to recovery image which you can find here http://www.android-hilfe.de/root-ha...a-recovery-ra-desire-v2-0-1-27-11-2010-a.html
put recovery on c drive sdk folder and open cmd on your windows and put a command fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
U can try to put ur phone on bootloader, then plug it to ur pc and run the RUU from windows..It should restore all, after that u can root it with unrevoked and do what u want..

U cant flash the recovery on S-ON desire..maybe worth a try to run unrevoked again and see if its work, but i dont believe
i have written clearly that the phone is not going in recovery nor it is booting in to some sort of rom or recovery that i flash new recovery.but if you tell me or direct me to some tutotial to flash recovery in adb mode, may be i can unbrick my device. but c i cant boot into recovery. i can just boot into fastboot.

ya boot in fastboot, plug it to ur pc and run the ruu from windows.
if ur desire is S-ON there is NO way to flash a recovery...just unrevoked can flash the recovery if u are S-ON, but if ur phone doesn't boot, unrevoked will not work i think

And i think you have to use that one because of the hboot. the ruu you are using have a old hboot version and i dont think the ruu will downgrade hboot..
But if you can enter fasboot use that to flash a recovery and wipe youre phone then install a custome room on it.

Unless the computer/phone has ESP, yes, both adb and fastboot need a cable connection!
If you dont want to do it over cable, find the corresponding PB99IMG and follow the PB99IMG method

Use the attached file.
Put it in the root of your card (not in any folder)
Reboot by pressing Vol- and Power button.
When asked to update, confirm with Vol -
This should give you a working recovery. Then you can flash any rom as you usually do, and at that instance, your bootloops will be solved too.
After this, if you still wish to return Hboot to Stock (without losing S-Off), you can use this PB99IMG. <Make sure you rename it to the same name as the previous file after deleting the former.

Trying to unroot

Okay, so S-OFF on my phone. I tried to do the forever unroot zip, but that didn't work..so i flashed the stock PC36IMG.zip file. Now the phone doesn't boot at all..it gets stuck at the white htc evo 4g screen. Recovery mode is inaccessible (has the evo with a red triangle). Is there anyway to fix this?
Yes, but need more info from your bootloader, especially your Hoot version and radio numbers.

You can't flash that zip, because your HBOOT is a newer version than the one which you're trying to flash. Red triangle, is the recovery, stock recovery. If you push vol up + power, you'll see android recovery system. Try running an RUU of the stock ROM you want.

Only way of doing that is from within an operational phone, Android environment. Or via custom recovery. Since yours isn't booting. Boot your bootloader, choose fastboot and flash a custom recovery via cmd prompt. From within the recovery you can mount the phone, turning the SD card in your phone into a flash drive on your computer.

A RUU is an executable file that runs on your computer environment which will push the ROM to your phone via sync cable. RUU= ROM update/upgrade utility.
Must you have S-On, to switch carriers, or do you just need the stock ROM on your phone?

I didn't see that you had clockworkmod as your recovery before. That's probably why it didn't work. I agree with the above; I'd just flash a stock rooted ROM. Just download the PC36IMG.zip for RA-supersonic v2.3 and put it on the root of your sd card (you can take it out of the device and connect it to a computer using a card reader) to flash in bootloader.
My phones touch screen is acting up..and i think it was the rom.
Fastboot > RUU > PC36IMG (hboot 2.16.00001 S-ON) > RUU. Best way in my opinion.

[Q] [Help!] Bricked One X

I wanted to flash LeeDroid's rom. After I flashed the boot image I realized that I haven't put the rom into the root of the phone's storage! silly me. I tried rebooting the system but it won't boot. What country are you in, which network are you on and did you buy your phone sim free?
If you go into fastboot mode and then boot into CWM using the command:
fastboot boot <CWM img file>.img
You'll then be able to use adb to push the rom zip onto your device which you can then flash with CWM.
If the RUU says you have the wrong version you probably have the RUU for another region/carrier.
It's pretty much impossible to permanently brick the one x (without s-off) so don't worry, you'll get it working eventually.
Thanks man. I am in Hong Kong and i am pretty sure it is sim free. after I tried running the RUU i have relocked the bootloader. for some reason I can't even get into recovery right now! When I try the RUU it saids the image version is 1.28.708.10 and I get error140

You can't install the 1.26 RUU after you've updated hboot with the 1.28 OTA.
Try installing this RUU: http://hoxroms.serveftp.com/RUU_END...Radio_1.1204.103.14_release_257077_signed.exe, it's the same region but a newer version.
Flash the stock 1.28 recovery image and relock your bootloader before trying to install the RUU.

If the RUU runs successfully then don't worry about it, if it throws another error then flash the stock recovery and try again.

Have you installed the proper drivers on your PC?
Before installing RUU, try the command "fastboot devices" to see if it's recognizing your device.
Edit: You'll have to do that from a folder with fastboot in it or you have to have fastboot in your PATH info.

Looks like you are connected, so I don't know why the RUU cannot find your device.
I have tried it again, and Ruu found my phone, but bootloader error appeared:
The ROM update utility cannot update your android phone. Please get the correct ROM update utility and try again...
Any ideas where to get the corect one for vodafone UK???

Yeah, but actually this one still seems like doesnt sort out my issue, I did find the right nandroid backup and I would flash it in recovery if I had any..
Don't forget that right at the beginning I was about to go for stock Rom, so I did flash stock recovery and I locked the bootloader.... So the question now is if I can flash again some recovery (which one) while my bootloader is relocked. Or should I go ahead and do relock the bootloader again and than flash recovery...? Sorry but I am still a bit lost, and I dont wanna my HOX to become a brick.... Thx

Looks like you can't go back to stock, there is no RUU, no nandroid backup.
You could still ask if somebody is willing to post a nandroid backup for your CID and version, and in the meanwhile you can unlock your bootloader again, flash a custom recovery and flash a ROM (+boot.img) of your choice that fits your hboot version.
