Kernel suggestion needed - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm running fresh 3.3. What ever the newest one is. I'm looking for suggestion for good stable oc kernel
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

There's an entire section dedicated to Q&A.
EDIT: And just like that it got moved.
Check out the kernel comparison thread in the General section.

Thread moved to Q&A.
I am personally using Kings #9. However, I am using myn's and performance will vary from rom to rom. Your best bet is to either read up in Fresh's thread or try the different kernels yourself and see which one performs better.

Looking for ROM recommendations...

Hello all,
I am looking to move to a different ROM. I am currently on Cyanogenmod 7 Nightlies and have been for at least 4 months. Prior to this, I was on Myn's TwoPointTwo, but development seams to have stopped on that, although it was not bad when I was on it.
I would like a ROM that is mostly Gingerbread AOSP without a lot of mods. CM7 is nice, but I can't stand the WyContacts dialer/contacts/history app. I like them separate. I do like ADWLauncher, so that cooked in is fine.
I don't know if this is a CM7 problem or not, but WiFi Hotspot interferes with Bluetooth. Causes my calls to cut in and out like crazy.
Any suggestions would be great.
Deck. It's like CM without the extra bloat. Great battery life and blazing fast. Wrong forum, but no big deal.

My 2 cents is deck 1.2.1 with tiamat 4.0.6 with sbc. Blazing fast with regards to overclocking, not to mention a lot if free internal memory and available RAM. Battery drains quickly overclocked. Capable and stable at 1.226ghz (i think that's the setting) using Android overclock from the market. Also has built in advanced settings, similar to cm7's. A lot of nice tweaks in there. Just my experience. Hope it helps.

Thanks! I've just flashed to Deck.
However, the first thing I noticed is that it still uses WyContacts. Any way to go back to Gingerbread dialer/contacts/history apps?

If You Live In A 4G Area I Would Recommend Any Rom With 4G (its an essential for me). I would recommend synergy, mikg, or cyanogen. If not in 4g area or dont care about it get new miui. Looks awesome.

+1: the gingerbread-evo-deck has been my favorite AOSP ROM since it was released; currently at 1.2.1. I like the Go Launcher and Go Contacts so I've switched to them. Added Link2SD to utilize my Ext3 partition for apps, and that's about it. Throw all my apps on there, everything works and works great!
If you're interested, also works great with custom kernels by Savaged-Zen and Tiamat (currently using SZ 2.2.1). There are many great options, but IMHO you can only get different, not better.
Good luck, and thank you for your time.

Your post count is over 100 and you've been here for a year, and you could have just skipped over this thread completely after reading the title. So, the only reason that you opened this thread at all was to chastise the OP. So as you question why he committed the mortal sin of posting in the wrong area, you should also be asking yourself why it was so important for you to slam him with obscenities for it.
Personally, I'm far more annoyed when someone posts, "What's the battery life like?" in a thread with 500 responses including 60 responses to that same question that has already been asked 10-times in the same thread.
Yes, this was posted in the wrong area, but in my observation you get much better responses to such a question here than you will in Q&A because many users, myself included, rarely if ever go into the Q&A area. I'm not supporting posting in the wrong area, but I do understand why a question like this was posted here.
Thank you for your time.
this post removed, since thread was moved out of development.
Someone needs a hug. Anything you need to get off your chest? We're all here to listen. Don't be scared.
And I'm liking SynR2. No SBC but I enjoy some of the new sense.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. First of all, I didn't mean to put it in Development, but when you're in that forum looking for ROMs, the first reaction is to just click POST NEW THREAD. Thanks for moving me.
I have been on gingerbread-deck for almost 24 hours now. It is definitely fast.
That said, it still uses WyContacts. Do nearly all AOSP ROMs use that? Does Gingerbread not have it's own dialer and contacts apps?
If a ROM doesn't have ADW Launcher built-in, is the standalone version the only option or is there a way to kind of integrate it with Gingerbread? Any advantages to this?
My 2 cents for Kinged Kingdom RLS2

Synergy kernel

So, I have been on cm7 for quite awhile and just wanted to play around with something new for a bit. What is the best kernel to use with the synergy rom and why do you feel that way?
Sent from XDA premium Supersonic... CM7/GoDmOdE rules
The only kernel is the stock kernel until a dev cooks something up since the source was just released today. Why would you post this in the dev section as a new thread? You should have posted in the synergy thread.
Messing around at work and was not thinking..... Sry everyone should not have placed it here

This question will probably be asked a billion times over once the kernels start dropping so this answer goes for everybody who is going to ask the same question.
When kernels do drop you will have to test each kernel to see which one fits your phone. No two phones are alike so the kernel (when they do drop) that I flash may be better for my phone than it is for your phone. Your phone may play nicer with a kernel (when they do drop) that isn't so great with my phone.
Basically it all depends on how you use your phone. Just flash each one (when they do drop) and see which is good with your phone.
I will be patient and wait..... Just want to be able to overclock and undervolt as I choose .... Good things come to those who wait..... By far and away the best sense rom I have come accross

I guess you really dont READ at all.
Go into the DEV section and theres 3 kernels that work with CM7 and Overclock. not that hard at all. Plus you posted a question in the Dev Section really??? Hence the Epic 4G QnA Thread.
Samurai Kernel which OC'es to 1.5GHz:

Shadow Kernel which OC'es to 1.4 or 1.5GHz not exactly sure:

Nope, its completely impossible. Absolutely cannot be done on this phone, don't even try searching for it. You won't find anything about overclocking at all if you search. Don't even bother.

The newest one cyanogenmod 7.2 with wimax . Look at the first page . All those kernels did the same thing .
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
I seen the first page. And there are a lot of builds of CM7 w/ wimax(nightlys). So for an example if I'm running cm7 RCO and try using a kernel for Cm7 nightly 12 it might break something such as wifi.
I'm thinking your on the first Cm7 wimax build which is stable, but kernel devs moved on to nightlys. You can get nightlys for the Epic in the cyanogenmod forums.
Check your about phone see which CM7 build you're on and go to any kernel thread of your choice and see if the description is similar to what your about says.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
yea all you have to do is make sure you got the right kernal for the right version of cyanogen. Im running cm7 rc with the samurai bushido7 overclocking at 1.4. If you do decide to use samuri kernal make sure you download and install bushido 7 and not seppuku, sepukku is meant only for the nightly build of cm7. Once installed you can eaisly overclock from cyanogen mod settings, voltage control or setcpu not needed
Literate in rooting one might not be.
But nothing gives anyone the right to insult a fellow human being. As much as it bothers you, at one time we all know far less than we do now. Aid your fellow man rather than degrade him.
In no way am I defending the disregard of forum rules but none of you are better than I am or anyone else for that matter. Keep that in mind.
Any who might read, read the rules and utilize the search accordingly. Good night gentlemen.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
This is why everyone should have to mod their own phone. If anyone who is running CM(any.vers) spent any time at all reading through the dev section for that ROM, they wouldn't ask that question.
It's not the accidental abuse of the forum - that is a newbie mistake.....not having read ANYTHING about the ROM you are running then wanting someone else here to do the legwork for you....
Very annoying.

Your answer:
Each phone hardware, app setup and battery longevity is different. Try them all out and see which fits your needs best.
You received that reply from Uber because this has been asked time and time again and it's the same answer. All it took was some time on your part to read through the general and q&a forums to find these threads a few pages back.
Good luck finding your ideal ROM and kernel.

checked the thread and it seems like video recording issue.
absolute best battery life? Go back to 2.1 with schizopunk's Epic ROM combined with the Pheonix kernel. That was some sick battery life. My best was over 3 days off the charger (no airplane mode shenannigans). Of course you'd have to be on crappy old eclair to get those, but all you asked for was best battery life

When developers come up with best ROMs I'm pretty sure they put the best kernel...do we have to still flash new kernals check permutations and combination s..its lame doubt...but id appreciate if somebody can answer..

Yes many developers do as you mentioned especially when tweaking a certain kernel to be very effecient with their ROM, but they still mention sometimes that their ROM is compatible with some other kernels. That means what the developer may have tested and found as best for that ROM could be totally different according to the usage of the user. So just try the kernel that the developer recommends and if you are not satsified then try other kernels until you are satisfied with one
I know this may not be the answer you hoped for but I have always read (and believed) that there is no best ROM and there is no best kernel, only the user can judge according to his/her needs
Your answer was apt..I ve been flashing Roms and have not really experimented with kernels yet..been extremely careful with my device ,dint really want to brick it. Thanks again..could you suggest a good kernel for P A 2.99 beta 7?

Check this to read a nice article about kernels first
Then go to the "Development" section of your Gnex type (maguro, toro, or toroplus) and read the first post of each kernel as suggested by bk201doesntexist to choose the one that suits you
