keyboard effing up - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, the default keyboard has been acting up, it wont let me type fast, if i type too fast it erases some letters, so i am forced to type at a glacial pace. Anyone else out here expeience a similar issue? What are some possible fixes or alternatives besides Swype?

I (and many others) experienced the same behavior from the stock keyboard after the recent update. Not sure what caused it, but the stock keyboard has been flat out unusable for me. I switched to Smart Keyboard Pro and I'm loving it. The layout is much better, and I find myself typing a lot faster and more accurately than before the stock keyboard began malfunctioning. Smart Keyboard Pro in landscape mode provides the best typing experience I've ever had on any cell phone. I dare say it even beats out my old BlackBerry Bold's keyboard.

bug on the onscreen keyboard

Hi. i seem to have a bug on the onscreen keyboard. basicaly, whenever i press a key no animation is applied as if pressing a real key on a keyboard ie see the specific key pressed down.
It doesnt seem to work no matter what screen or app i am running. However, it does operate fine when i do the keyboard tutorial?
anyone having issues with this?
edit: seems to work fine when i switch the keyboard into numeracy mode
Another edit: fixed the issue by changing the keyboard layout completeley via the settings and back to full qwerty .
Not really linked to your problem, but I noticed a strange behaviour when setting up Copilot on my Desire today. Basically no matter what i typed, it automatically retyped some letters back again. Trying backspace too added the last letter again and then subsequently deleted it. I wanted to type say [email protected] and it would type [email protected]@y... It reminded me of similar keyboard issues on the Nexus One. Thankfully I did not notice the same issue when i typed in landscape mode.

I had exactly the same problem, didn't think of trying it in Landscape mode mind you, but it was only on the user name field and not the password field in CoPilot.

My screen is perfect. Absolutely love this phone. Very responsive, word prediction is sublime and I haven't had a single slowdown or crash. Check out my YouTube videos (misterleoni)

[Q] How to turn off vibrate when typing text on keyboard

It's annoying me that it vibrates on every keypress and it seems like it is not needed with how fast this thing is. It's just a personal dislike so if anyone can tell me how to change this I would appreciate it.
-- Well I found it under input settings. I just got the phone last night so I will probably be going wild all day today.
Ok now I want to bind a star trek sound to the keypress when typing... LOL
Also I really enjoyed my previous Droid Incredible keyboard. Has there been any work on a keyboard port to the Galaxy Nexus? I know the new one is improved on ICS but I still really enjoyed that keyboard.
Thanks.
keyboard ports are kinda rare nowadays, most people just go with one of the third party keyboards on the market.
as far as the sounds, that actually is possible, but requires root since you'll have to manually change the keypress sound.

[Q] What Key am I Hitting by Mistake?

Hi, all--
New to this phone, and new to touch-screen keyboards. I desperately miss the physical keyboard on my Droid G2, but that's the only thing I miss! I was able to type much faster. When I type--even paying close attention--I am hitting something that is switching me to "symbols" instead of "letters." Also sometimes it brings up another menu. But none of that happens when I type slowly so I can't slow down and figure out what I'm hitting. Any ideas?
(FTW, I have tried swype, etc, but still feel more comfortable pecking.)
Perhaps the Sym key in the bottom left?
That's what I thought at first, too, but my thumb doesn't go down that far unless I'm really trying. Hmm...
I'd recommend you get SwiftKey from Google Play. Hands down the best keyboard for Android, atleast for me.
OK, thanks. I will try that since it was another frustrating day typing slowly and correcting mistakes.

Best choice so far.

[Q] learning new words on Android 4.3 keyboard?

So here is my problem. Recently I upgraded from 4.1.3 to 4.3. I noticed that the Samsung keyboard now no longer seems to learn new words. Whenever I try to swipe "s#!t" or "[email protected]#$", or even a more modest word like suck, I can't use swipe. It never gives me such options. I can still type them letter by letter, but that's v slow and annoying. The Old keyboard learned the words. The new one doesn't, unless I don't know how, in which case please tell me.
Tapping the new word or clicking arrows doesn't seem to do anything.
Bump...
[SOLUTION for 4.3 Keyboard learning new words]
Found the solution by chance.
So I went into the settings once more, and I saw that auto replacement was switched off. So I switched this on and tried words that it didn't remember previously. And now it suddenly remembers the words! The more you use the words the better it seems to be able to predict them.
Happy camper!

Typing Issues

So I recently got the Pixel 4a 5G and all in all I am very satisfied. However, I got the feeling that typing is unusually buggy, meaning that when I type fast, the google keyboard identifies it as swype-style and enters a blank space after the gibberish it produced. At first I thought this might be a problem of the google keyboard, so I installed other keyboards but they showed similar behaviors. If they lack swype-features, it often happens that the cursor moves back into an already written word and such. Then I thought it might be the screencover I applied, but I got rid of it and the problem persists. Now I know that I am typing fast, but not that fast that it should be problematic and also I did _not_ experience something like it on my previous phone (which was a OnePlus One).
As this behaviour starts to annoy me, I'm just curious if someone experiences similar things with their phone or if it's something I'm doing wrong. Not really expecting any suggestions or solutions here, though if someone has a suggestion/solution/fix I'm probably up for it!
i haven't had this exact issue but i'm definitely having some muscle memory ones. my 3a xl had a nav bar so i'm having trouble adapting to a lower on the screen keyboard and my typing is messy. might be part of your issue but i've seen improvement over the last few weeks.
I'm having the exact same issue. When I type too fast, the keyboard registers swipe gestures.
Have you tried Settings, Display, Advanced, Increase touch sensitivity?

Yes, unfortunately it has no effect. And if it doesn't register a swipe, it will simply not register one of the keys being pressed. I can't replicate it if I slow down my typing
