[Q] Adobe Flash 10.1, Gmail 2.3 and space requirements - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I am wondering why the Adobe Flash and Gmail 2.3 updates are taking up so much space (12 and 3 MB respectively) - as if the previous versions (those that came with the HTC 2.2 OTA update) actually arn't uninstalled - its not like there too much room for Apps on this phone. Is there a way to fix this? (apart from just ignoring the updates, which Im doing at the moment)....

Is your phone rooted?
if not, then root your phone & get the updated ROM from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773997

[Q] OTA Update ota_bravo_htc_eu_2.10.405.2-2.09.405.8_release567cypyi0feo4th5.zip

I'm running (at the moment) a copy of Pinky's ROM on a rooted Desire. So I was quite surprised when I got notified this update was available for download:
ota_bravo_htc_eu_2.10.405.2-2.09.405.8_release567cypyi0feo4th5.zip 25MB
Anyone know anything about it? And no, I wasn't stupid enough to download and install an unknown update from HTC onto a rooted and non-standard Desire. The Least that would likely happen is having to reinstall my OS; the worst is a locked and bricked unusable device.
It's too small for a new version of the official HTC set up - but it might be a substantial update...
So, anyone else got this? Know anything about it? Too new for google...
- Update : Android OS update patch
- Enhanced multi inbox Gmail support
- Improved RUS keyboard layout
It can't be applied to a custom ROM, it's been said a number of times

[Q] How do one update an Android device?

I have a Desire HD with 2.2, and im assuming 2.3 will be released for it some time (does anyone know when?) - Thing is I dont know how updates work on Android (first smartphone). I've only had experience with iPod Touch where as it updated via iTunes.
Do I manually have to update with a 2.3 rom or is a program gonna do it for me? Also, when going from 2.2 to 2.3, will it wipe my phone clean, removing all apps.?
Android 2.3 will not be around soon...
and the updates can either be installed via htc.com or if the updates are released as over the air (OTA) update, your phone will notify you when there is an update. You just have to press update when you see the notification on your phone. You can manually check for updates via Menu ---> Settings ---> About phone ----> system software updates.
An update is likely to remove your contacts etc. But that is yet to see. HTC will mention if the update will erase your data or not.
But 2.3 is on Nexus S and many more already, how long are they gonna wait before letting other devices get it? Im not an Apple-fanboy, but I like it how they let all their devices get the latest update, and not just the newest ones.
Unfortuneately its not as simple as that.....google may release the latest update but each phone is different and cannot use the single one update that has been released....for example if you have a desire hd then you will have to wait for htc to modify the update to include sense ....or if you have a xperia then you will have to wait for Sony ericcson to modify it to include mediascape and timescape.......where as apple control their own Operating system and devices on which it is released on as such they dont need to implement other third party phone manufactures modifications to their update....hope this helps...
Feel free to correct me if im wrong

I didn't even think of the fact that each manufacturer has their own customized android-system. Suddenly open-source makes more sense . In my head I was waiting for Google to release it, not HTC . Does any HTC devices officially have 2.3 yet? (Not hacked/pirated download) Cause then at least that'd be a sign of it coming - hopefully - soon.
Sounds like you shouldn't mess with the phone, like rooting it and get 2.3 now, I say wait it out til htc release an ota update to 2.4, I'm guessing at least 2 or 3 months from now.

Havent had plans for it either. Rooting and customROMs is just too technical for me, and I fancy the stock rom alot (first smart phone... I'd be happy with any ROM )
2.4? Then I guess it would only make sense for HTC to skip 2.3 (well... or at least if 2.4 is coming in April!)
Thanks for the stuff, guys! Gonna wait out for 2.4!!!

By the time Gingerbread is out for this Phone, it will be Snowing at your place.
Meant, HTC plans for Gingerbread is not so likely, if so do happen, likely around in 6 month or so. By that time Desire HD2 is out already with Duo Core and 3.2 MP Frontal Camera / 10 MP Rear Camera w/ Dual Flash.
Just read the Bible on Rooting, aint so hard, had a 2nd grader done it on my extra phones. Once Rooted and Custom ROM, you will LOVE all the Extra Speed and Bumps the Factory RUU had all this time.

[Q] Is there an OTA killer and stable/working 4.2 gapps pack for 4.1.2?

As per title, I'd like to go back to 4.1.2 from 4.2. It's a total fail for me, even after a full flash it lags. Those who say it's not true simply are not able to spot the difference (like people who can't distinguish between 40fps and 80fps, guess what? I can...). Anyways, is there any pack of gpass 4.2 (photosphere and gallery at least) that works and is stable in 4.1.2? Before the arrival of 4.2 I've tried the transformation pack taken from Android Police, but it was not so stable and works only when system language is eng-us.
Thank you :good:
EDIT: just to be more precise, I'm stock & not rooted, full flash, 37 apps installed and 1Gb disk space used...

[Q] HTC DESIRE HD Illegal_Viper.zip

Hi,
I recently rooted my desire HD and installed viper 4.0.4 sense 4.1 ... The main reason was to be able to get the latest app from play store ( google keep etc no longer supported on standard HTC software).
Anyway, I recently received a system update and when i try to install it fails with the message illegal_viper.zip. I would like to either install the update or remove the update notification from the top bar and live with what I've got.
Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks MW
I assume you mean ViperDHD 2.3.0?
OTA is evidently borked & this project is evidently dead. Translation is don't do the update and IMHO do whatever you can to prevent any OTA activity at all since it is dead.

N5110 Stock stagefright patch info?

My wife's fully stock (4.4.2) N5110 started getting update notifications from Samsung Software Update.
Per the info, it's a 7.61 MB 'device stability and bug fixes' patch that includes security enhancements and StageFright fix.
Is there information on everything installed with this patch?
Will installing this block any future attempts at root / installing a custom ROM? (If she ever lets me; this is solely her device and doesn't care about root/ROMs )
Since this is a wifi only note8 - how vulnerable is it to stagefright if I don't patch? Everything I've read says 'stagefright is more than an MMS vulnerability' but then the details only go into the MMS vuln :|
Thanks in advance and sorry if this has been covered elsewhere - I searched and didn't find anything.
I noticed the update today and decided to install it. It did not take very long to install and the Android version number is still 4.2.2, so it doesn't seem that there is anything major. I have yet to notice any changes, but I haven't used my tablet much today I should note that I am also using the wireless version of the Note 8.0 and I have never rooted this devices.
If I learn anything else I'll post here.
It's too bad that they didn't decide to bump things up to 4.4.4 (could use those Bluetooth fixes that were introduced in 4.4.3) while they were at it.
Anyway, I just noticed that there's a new stock rom posted for the USA variant on Sammobile.com and samsung-updates.com. So this is officially "a thing." Haven't flashed it myself yet and I probably won't; I've moved on to Cyanogenmod 12.1. But it's nice to know that Samsung is still pushing out updates for this thing.
