Let's post here the features we'd like to have by default in our WM6 rom.
Just to start mine:
1) Ability to print every printable file, by BT or WIFI or Active Sync, directly from Trinity, either on a lan printer and on a shared printer of a lan pc.
2) To have a shared folder on the device, accessible from the pc in lan, just to drag&drop files, a behavior like a laptop..
3) A working Voip program, with the option to store at least 2-3 sip accounts, and MAINLY with the audio working on the earphone, and not on the external speakerphone.

Make request to the cookers??? LOL
If you'd like this features then cook a ROM to yourself with this things...

well xmas is just arround the corner!!!
Wish u luck
The sarcasm is just dripping off this topic, you can smell it, lol
Mate, there are some things that just can't be done with a WM6 device, we have to face it.
Someone asked for Mac OSx to be put on the trinity a few weeks back, when told it wasnt possible, he said "Nothing is impossible ,try and try"
Then someone wanted a password screen on his bootloader, when told that wasn't possible, he said "where there is a will there will always be a way"
They are both very stupid and don't understand a thing about technology, I pity them, I see this thread going the same way.
Best of luck getting what you want for Xmas by the way I'm looking forward to getting a wooly jumper again, lol!
Well I think wish list is a good idea, it shows the demand people needed that can help inventors/developers to understand and try to meet people's need. Some people will pay a lot of money for their demand and this can turn out to be a good business too!!!
As for my wishlist...
1. A pda phone that has widest possible screen, but also the slimmest possible, with all the ability of the up to date settings (qwerty keyboard,gps,3.5g, bluetooth, wifi, multi-touchscreen and etc)
2. A very good battery life on the phone (that can run 3.5g line for at days without charging, maybe?)
2. A good hardware-software performance that can maybe helps to get rid of the need of a computer while on the road/business trip.
That's all, cheers!!!

It's a very good idea to think about a "printer plug-in" for HTC P3600. All old hp ipaqs with windows mobile 2002/2003 version used to have this. I don't see why people criticize so much. There are more useless threads than this(asking for a solution without searching for example and repeating it for 1000 times). This is a good thread to express someone's demands. May/may not be rom cookers can have a different point of view.
I don't know what rom you have , but you've got already shared folders on BT or on wifi(network shared).
Ooopppsss
Didn't realize that the wishlist is about the wishlist for a ROM cooking, as I saw the thread title is too general, therefore I just put the general wishlist.
However, still not a bad idea to start for a wishlist thread though, as if we hope that it will be done and shows what we desire rather than asking someone to do it for us. Furthermore, wishlist is not asking directly from people to develop ROM for you, but showing a list from a lot of people that can help cookers to cook a suitable ROM that meet everyone's needs.
Cheers!!!
Best idea if it is considered !
1 - have a auto config to use trinity with the freephonie
2 - have a video conferencing/calling program
3 - have a OCR decryptor to export a photo in text
4 -...
I would like to have in HTC Home, the number of incoming sms-calls-mail coloured like red when u get something, just to distinguish easily when u have received something new.
And I'd like if in zoom sms the time of the received sms is shown ,as well as the number of the sender, and to have a reset of the counter of missed calls when u press the zoomsms key of lost calls (it can reset the sms counter in htc home, but not the missed calls one).

Main disadvantages
No system-wide file manager only a disadvantage to people like us, most people don't care
No videocalling
Limited third-party apps availability
No Bluetooth file transfers Without the file manager this is kinda pointless
No USB mass storage mode see previous answer
No multitasking it is there in a limited fashion, though right now only for the windows stuff (Zune, IE etc) but may be opened up to others in the future
No copy/paste slated to be in the first update in early (Jan) 2011
Too dependent on Zune software for computer file management and syncing I actually like this one, Zune can handle pictures, music, video, podcasts...what more do you need really?
No music player equalisers I'm sure someone will come up with an app.
No Flash or Silverlight support in the web browser it will be there eventually.
No sign of free Bing maps Navigation so far I hope this comes along soon, rumor is in the first update in Jan.
No DivX/XviD video support I'm not even sure what these file formats are as I have never needed them.
No internet tethering support this will probably have to be through an app from the carrier sadly.
New ringtones available only through the Marketplace I don't know where people heard this one...
Swapping memory card requires hard reset; cards not readable by computer from what I hear this is true, the memory is exandable, but not removable...
Which is true with is faulse ?
Which will fixed by later updates ?

alot of your answers hinge on things coming in the future. And on that note most done even have an exact release date.
this is true, but it is confirmed about the copy/paste, rumored about the nav. MS wanted to have a nice stable solid base OS before they went crazy with the options I am guessing.
can i record calls & sounds?

The only "file manager" is the zune desktop app which manages media. There is no way to access files/folders on the phone. Each app has it's own isolated file system.
Email/SMS. I've never heard of anyone ever using bluetooth file transfers.

On rare occasion I have done BT file transfer, usually when I am sending a .cab from my phone to my sisters or something, but that is a rarity.
You're joking right? I use BT file transfers pretty regularly. From my phone to my laptops and other phones. In fact last time I used it was just a few days ago to send some ring tones to a friend's mobile.
So I guess by saying there is no BT transfers means MS have gone down the Apple route of locking down the BT to just headsets and handsfree kits or am I mistaken in that assumption?
Never used it, never had the inclination to use it, never heard of anyone using it. Why not just email or SMS whatever it is you're trying to send?

I think a major disadvantage is the fact that they have not even integrated HTML5 into their browser as even the iPhone has that. Hopefully more sites will use HTML5 instead of Flash as I have an Android device and I find flash to be quite slow and buggy at times. Its good that they have announced that they will be bringing c&p as thats a needed feature.

I am sure the html5 and silverlight will make it's way into the browser, they just want to get it functional and solid first. Can't have EVERYTHING right away. I think what is there now is a great foundation.

I don't see how that's a major disadvantage given that we live in real reality and not Job's reality. HTML 5 will be important one day...today isn't that day. It's not ready for primetime. IE9 will start to be ported over into wp7, I'd be shocked if it's not up by the end of next year, and HTML5 still won't be a prevalent force on the web by then either.
Also, once they expand the API or allow other browser developers to get native access, then we may very well see HTML5 via those browsers.
I wonder what kind of security apps Microsoft will allow. I would like an app like Throttle lock on my phone over a pin # lock.
No USB mass storage or being able to swap out sd cards without hard resetting is an inconvenience. I'm often at a friend house and may want a file that's too big to email. It's easier to insert my card into their laptop, drag & drop a 5 gb file in the proper place on my sd card & take it home to place on my pc later. If some takes a long hd video with a flip cam, I rather them place it on my sd card than have them burn it to disc or shrink it & email it.
Copy & Paste is supposed to be available by the time Sprint gets a WM7 phone so I cant complain about that.
Too dependant on Zune software is an issue when wanting files from someone else PC that doesnt have Zune software.
No internet tethering support is a big issue for me.
Flash support isn't an issue if they allow 3rd party browsers, I would use Skyfire for WM7 if there is one available by the Sprint launch.
Dvix/Xvid support would be a plus but not a deal breaker.
Silverlight would be a plus as well but not a deal breaker either.
With no system wide file explorer, does that mean there will be no way to hide certain pics & videos from being found by someone else looking into the phone?
USB mass storage and file explorer are very important on my list. This is quite a disappointment.

Sorry mate but what kind of idiotic argument it is??!!
If I stand next to somebody or next to my own computer and want to send a file
why the hell should I email this?! I send it by BT! It's simpler, faster and OBVIOUS SINCE WE HAVE 2010, and bluetooth is known for ages!
It's hilarious you're trying to justify every stupid limitation by MS,

Hi all!
I have been wandering around the info we have, and even with SPST we get not much improvement since a while.
I'have been thinking on purchasing another unit (device) to try to keep on the testing, without messing up with QPST or NVitems this time. But as all you know, that would cost money (would rock if not!).
So, in short words, i would want to know what's the interest on an opensource sync/browse software (similar to zune but without playing features) as donationware to relief the device cost and time spent over it.
The above means the "Connected" label on the kin screen and way to upload/download files manually, since the kin supports libMTP operations and just needs that "label" and usb status to transfer. Not meaning a OS change to android/meego/[enter other OS here] or a hacking attempt. If it later allows some kind of recovery for bricks or improvement on the device OS changing attempts, it's welcome from me.
Just as notes of what i had previously to the brick phase:
- Current supported OS: linux (the experts here could know if the libs below work on windows through mingw32 or native compilation)
- Libraries used: lib-usb (headers), libmtp (with libmtp-tools) in command prompt / terminal.
- Kin set up in normal mode ("Kin" device in windows).
- Language C++ (OO code).
- Raw access to the Kin through usb bulk transfers (requires sudo / root privileges).
Also, alternatives on the purchasement would be thanked .
so from what i understand, this program would be capable of accessing music and pictures and things, but not system files? am i on the right track there?
as long as it has you think you can give it more functionality than zune has, i'm in full support and will gladly donate to the cause.
i would offer to help, but my programming experience is pretty limited, especially in C++. i'm reasonably competent in C#, but it doesn't sound like that's gonna be of much help.

Yes, totally right there. access what's called "Storage" at "My computer" on windows pc's, when you connect to the zune software having the registry hack (images of that can be seen in this forum).

Well, in fact, there is no much more you can do, but the libmtp tools already let you format the storage and do the common operations, so the thing is triggering the right usb status to write.

Not right now, but the raw usb access can be wrapped as dll to call from c# where, of course, would be a lot easier to develop a gui. Actual code is pretty much abstract, so i call to "writeData(dataArray, length)" instead all the low level codes. But it has console mode only (not much to do hehe).
I may post what i have at the moment but as it just tests to talk to the kin... it's pretty lame hahaha.
It may be just me, but I don't quite see the point in going through all the trouble to only get the same result.. A quick sync through Zune works and there's nothing more we could get out of it, is there?
But if it can possibly increase the chances of this thing being hacked, I'm in..
(I'd love to be able to get the text message logs to my computer, but ehh.)
First of all yes.
Second, you cannot "customize" what to sync. You sync what's OK for zune, and what you could add to the zune software. Zune software is not Kin specific but added as supported (limited) device.MTP protocol allows you to get what the device is capable of, i will paste it on a txt file, as it's kinda huge for "our" device. Not all is done on zune, like "firmware files" support (whatever they are).
Third, apart from macspace app for mac, there is no support for linux (even for the Zune hardware) to get synced.
Fourth, we dont know if enabling the usb status for the transfer you can get the explorer to write on the device (that's on the air).
And last, logs files, pinned-apps, etc should be on the storage but they are not accesible to us or could be on another partition. That's one of the questions we still have floating around.

Furthermore, if you try to make a lame hijacking test, renaming a mp3 to image or the opposite (like "image.mp3"), the Zune software detects it, before you sync, so outta luck.

i pulled this from a different thread, but it's more relevant here.
if the zune software automatically detects hijacks, would it be possible that the phone itself has no security in place to detect it? because if so, a third party file explorer could theoretically sync hijack-type files to the phone, no?

Not quite sure of that affirmation. We dunno if uploading a file would work "as is" pasting or you need to go through a usb protocol (within MTP protocol) which says "it's a photo, and it's named image.jpg" and upload it accordingly.
The answer to that would be to get the thing working and testing.
As promised, i posted what lib MTP said about the kin two capabilities (before it became dead). It's a bit specific & technic, but it's more public information now .
Just to give more info on this topic (syncing software):

It means that the MTP protocol (standard and in the kin) would allow us to write non zune files (mp3, image, playlists) on the storage, even if it has no use in the kin itself.
This means placing exe files too, even if we cannot run them anyway.
Of course, this doesnt happen in Zune or Kin Media Sync, even using MTP (or MTPz) because companies dont want you to write dirty things in the device, so they let you sync normal (multimedia) filetypes only.
I wonder what would happen if i could have some "read All files" code which doesnt filter non-multimedia files... !
Hey John, I had noticed that installing Songbird (for Windows, as it includes native MTP support), it's able to read a LOT of information about the phone, more than I've seen the Zune software do. The only problem comes when I try to read or write files to the phone, that Songbird is getting some unexpected response and simply fails or crashes during the process.
Also, when it's connected to the Kin, Zune is unable to access the phone.
Since I'm still new to MTP, are you aware of why simple data retrieval would work, but file I/O would be a problem?

Get the file i attached on the 1st post. Has the info provided by the libraries used by songbird (probably same as mines on linux).
Of course, MTP was designed to get public properties from the phone, just when they are standard (name, manufactured, battery state, ....)
For that thing, you dont even need to initiate a mtp session, i think, but for some specific commands you must do.
I'm far from an expert on MTP, just read what i got in the specification (and some sites), and it's a easy yet effective way to communicate with a device.
From what i have seen, mtp session and communications go in a half-duplex mode (walkie-talkie way to do) where only one host (PC) talks to a device(Kin) one at a time.
I guess that also applies to applications using the kin MTP. just one, the other awaits till the mtp session ends. And that's why songbird may be blocking access to it.
That could explain why we can't see files in explorer with zune open or that weird random things we got using registry hacks.
Anyway, it's just a matter of time till we write a lame image/file to the device.
Yesterday I stumbled across a curious error. Zune told me that I had reached the maximum allowed amount of media on my HD7. It's not that my SD card was full or so, there's still 15 GB left on it. I had about 3 GB of music, 2 GB of videos, 400 MB of podcasts and 5 GB of pictures on it. I removed the media and am currently synchronizing again, since I can't believe that WP7 limits the amount of media in any way. Did anybody else ever experience such an error?
Just in case somebody else may face the same situation as I did:
there doesn't seem to be a limit for the total amount of media on a device. The issue I had was caused by a folder containing about 12000 pictures. Apparently WP7 can't handle or doesn't allow that many pictures in one single folder. I solved it by making several child folders containing 3000 images each.

Hi mate
Well, seems I was wrong. There really appears to be a limit to how many images you may have stored on the device. Even though I splitted the folders, it synchronized only 1300 images back to the phone. So around 10700 pictures remained unsynced. I'll try and contact winphonesupport via twitter. Maybe there's some workaround. I have tons of images of my family I use to carry around on my device. And I want to keep it that way.
I had a nice chat with the WinPhoneSupport on Twitter. It appears that Zune uses a database on each device which is quite limited concerning the amount of media it can handle. That means that - totally independent from the storage space left - it's possible that you just cannot sync anymore files if you have a huge amount of pictures on your device. I can't exactly tell what that limit is, but I had the error at about 35000 files. The support told me they'll escalate my report to the team, whatever that may mean. Let's hope they simply increase that limit.

First of all it's my decision whether I want to carry my pictures with me on my device or put them somewhere on the net. Secondly having all those images stored on a server would require a fast internet connection if you want to quickly browse through the (sorted) images if you're looking for something specific. Sadly you don't always have such a fast connection. Third and last: I consider it an issue when the amount of media - whatever kind it may be - is limited by a database with a too low capacity rather than the storage.

Put your images on skydrive. Smartphones aren't media PCs, and I simply cannot even fathom a reason why anyone would want that many on a phone nevermind waste support's time dealing with a non-issue...

If he has enough space on the phone then why not keep the pics there? skydrive is not always accessible and could end up costing you if you don't have an unlimited data plan...
Hello,
I am developing an App, which should provide some NFC functionality. This app will run on an Android device with Android 4.2, with an NFC-Reader attached via USB. (Link - ACR 1252U Usb NFC Reader) The NFC-Reader comes with an Android-Library, that gives me access to it. (Link - ACS Android library).
The goal is, that every Android User can hold his phone to this reader, and then gets a small file on his device. That is the functionality, that the app should do. Just send a little file to the smartphone.
The connection to the reader works fine. I also can use the libraries classes to provide some basic functionality like information whether an NFC Card is attached or not, or getting the Cards ATR.
But unfortunately thats about it...
For the desired functionality I need "P2P-mode" or "Card Emulation-Mode". But I could not find any example on how to do this with this library. Is this library even capable of these functionalities?
Has anybody ever used this library for something like this?
Is it somehow possible to use the Android-Builtin NFC-functions together with the USB Reader?
Has anybody any tips for me?
Thank you in advance.
Hi,
I'm in the same point as You, I'm too use Android 4.2, I'm to use ACR1252U, and I'm stuck at same functionality problem yesterday/friday

Well, if you find something out, please report it here. I will do the same!
I'm not sure exactly what you are are trying to do. But you could use and nfc tag to programmed to a url to download a file. When the tag is brought within range of the nfc enabled phone the tag will send the url activating a web browser and download the file.

I'm trying to read/write data to nfc tag-card. But I'm have a problem with implement sending any command to my nfc adapter - ACR1252. Found interesting project created by Guru of NFC in Android @skjolber github.com/skjolber/ndef-tools-for-android but tries of implement additional adapter outgrows me or I'm doing it wrong

Hi,
that is exactly what I have done so far. I put the reader in card-emulation mode, and stored a URL on it.
The browser of the phone than successfully opens, when approaching the (emulated) tag.
Do you know if there is a possibility, that the image-link (e.g. "https://www.google.de/images/branding/googlelogo/2x/googlelogo_color_272x92dp.png"), that is stored on the tag, gets opened in the image-viewer-app ("Gallery"), instead of the browser?

I think you might have a conflict there, I have been only working with the tags for a few months, but your passing in a URL, the default handler will process that as a browser based request and thus open up in the browser. If you have an application, other than the browser that can open pictures from a URL you may be able to do that
I went around the problem:
- On the Tag I am storing a link to an HTML-Site.
- This HTML shows the picture, and prompts the user, if he wants to download that image (via JavaScript)
- If he confirms, the image is saved in his gallery, like I wanted.
Still the basic question remains:
Can I send this image to the user without the detour over the internet? Meaning just sending him the image via peer-to-peer?

Unless you were to chain alot of PC's up over a long distance in which could be used they would be acting as hosting servers for the files, then no. Also, if you are asking if that NFC could potentially transmit the file to other phones without the use of a connection, then technically, yes it is possible, yet the plausibility of the idea sufficing is low. NFC has a very limited connection span, and in order to transmit files over a long distance using NFC would require that everyone would act as a hosting server, and that if a user would request for the file download, then the rest of the phones would act as the sender, sending chunks of the file.
Nice idea
