You have two choices..you either have to start all over again or try different kernels
my phon.e use to do this i had to change the email update to once an hour no more problems
I went back to XDAndroid from Neopeek's Android and it has reduced the issue significantly... it only goes into SOD like once everyday now... (using android almost exclusively)

I have started this thread to point out a serious problem for a lot of us, the SOD. For me, ActiveSync is causing the SOD's, and for others there may be other problems and fixes for it. This thread is meant to explain the definition of SOD, and be a collection of all available fixes for it. So please contribute to this thread, together we can defeat the SOD!
What is a SOD?
SOD stands for Standby Of Death or Sleep Of Death, which means that when trying to wake up the phone from standby with the power button, it is unresponsive and the screen won't turn on. The only solution is a soft-reset.
What is causing the SOD?
There are many 'possible' reasons why SOD's could occur, and the precise reason isn't clear. With some ROM's you will get alot of them, and some are almost SOD-free.
If you don't know what's causing it, why this thread?
Because in this thread, all possible fixes that have been tested by XDA members will be gathered, and thus can be tested by other XDA members to fix their SOD's
Will Task29 fix my SOD?
No, Task29 doesn't actually fix the SOD's from occuring. It does however decrease the possibility of getting a SOD.
SOD Fixes
Fix #1: ActiveSync Schedule
Method:
If you are using ActiveSync to automatically retrieve your mail and/or calendar, you can try to edit the schedule to see if this reduces/fixes the occuring SOD's. To do this go to Connectivity -> ActiveSync -> Menu -> Schedule and set the "Sync During" to Manually or Every 4 hours.

Fix #2: Recently Installed Applications
Method:
If you have just installed an application and afterwards you're having SOD's, try to uninstall the application and see if the problem persists. If it doesn't, then the application is causing it. Wait for an update or report it to the developer of that application.
Programs that can cause SOD:

usually when i get SOD's its from installed apps.
Recently i've noticed elecont weather has been causing SODs for me. Uninstalled it and everythings back to normal. (forgot which version and haven't checked if theres been an update)
Alright thanks for the feedback, I'm adding all useful information to the first post.
on a new rom and decided to give elecont weather another shot. now on version 1.4.2p and no SOD's.
I think all those that have had SOD should let us know how they got it sorted.
I have spent days looking for a solution for my Touch Pro2 but no luck. This thread can solve alot of our problems if people report back what they did to solve theirs,

I started expierencing the SOD issue this morning out of no where. I haven't intstalled anything for weeks and I've been running the sprint stock rom for months. I think mine might be a hardware issue. I flashed to NRGs rom and still had the issue. I flashed back to sprints stock rom and it's still happening EVERYTIME the phone goes into standby. I push the power button and the phone won't wake up. I can slide the keyboard out and the button backlights light up but none on the buttons/keys work.
Try installing LUMOS to avoid SOD
i have a couple of TP2 with the SOD problem.
I read several post recommending LUMOS, so i did a quick test and it seems that it's really solving the SOD and also giving a little more battery dimming the screen.
Give it a try and let us know your comments.
Finally the SOD issue is fixed.
My 4 trials:
1. with no facebook auto update active, TP2 gets no SOD
2. with facebook auto update active, TP2 gets loads of SOD every day
3. download people application update from HTC and trial with no facebook update - no SOD's at all
4. switch on facebook update - since people application update installed - no SOD's at all!!!! and this has been running for quite a few weeks
NOT a single SOD at all. Fixed. Looks like SOD was related to memory issue consumption with facebook. Try it out.
Apart from a few speaker issues with Sense 2.5, my TP2 is pretty good for a slow phone compared to todays standard!
Too bad I don't use the facebook update.
I'm using the standard WM6.5 WWE Rom from HTC.
That has no update feature for facebook, but does have the SOD problems... a lot
Strange, only ever had sods with sense 2.5. And now they are completely gone. Memory usage is normal with the occasional crashes that comes with the underpowered tp2 but no black screen of deaths
I've never used facebooke, I disabled it in settings and still get SODs. In fact, much less after systemboard replacement...
Tried it all and still having the issue.
The problem for my device seems to be backlight related. I have noticed that I can not adjust the backlight settings at all...It always seems to be at 100 % no matter what I do. Tried Lumos and other backlight adjustment apps to no available solution. Tried even downgrading from wm6.5 go 6.1 stock rom and nadda. I wish there was a sound fix for everyone posted somewhere!! Any help would be greatly appreciated. When I boot into android...the sleep button will turn the screen on and off fine so the hardware button is working but I also notice in Android that the backlight is still lit even with the screen off. Backlight sensor works as when I answer a call it turns off but this dam SOD will never allow it to come back on unless a reset is done.
Telus CDMA TP2 with Sharkie Rom wm6.5 running.... Android Froyo 2.2 build as my work around but battery drains like crazy because the backlight never turns off! PLS HELP!
Thank you in advance, Kind Regards,

Hi.
Which ROM are u using?
I have the same problem and i'm 100% sure too that it's the facebook update. When is turned off don't get any SOD. But if i try to update manually and the phone goes to standby it won't wake up.
Today i installed the people application update but no luck. Its getting SOD's every time i try to update. Dammmm
It's this www[.]htc[.]com/pt/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=250&cat=0&dl_id=1061 the update that you say, wright?
I'm using the ROM 2.07.410.1 (80303) PTG.
Can we see anywuere in the phone that the update is installed?
Thanks
Nuno Viegas
Get SOD's without Facebook installed!
I am using ROM 2.07.401.1 with Manila version 2.5.20121225.0 (the standard WinMo 6.5 WWE ROM and get a lot of SOD's (about 3 per week) . And I don't even have this Facebook update installed, since I don't have a Facebook account.
If anyone has a solution I would be extremely glad!
HTC is no help....
Hi everybody,
After running stock DK28 for a while, I decided to give rooting a try. I was able to root with no problem. However, after a couple days now, I have noticed that when my screen times out, sometimes it is unable to wake up. In other words, the screen turns off, and will not turn back on despite how many times I press the power button. The only way I am able to fix this is by taking out the battery and re-starting the phone.
The problem seems to be very intermittent and random at best. Any ideas what may be causing this?
Also on an unrelated note, I have noticed that if I leave my screen open and allow the phone to time out, the physical keyboard will light up and turn off several times by itself (this has been going on since I installed DK28). Not necessarily a problem, but kind of weird.
Thanks in advance for the advice!
Do you have setCPU ?
i know sometimes when people set screen off properties to low it freezes and needs a batt pull
Funny enough, I guess the problem started after I installed that. I cleared its settings and cache and uninstalled the program hoping it would fix it, but no dice. I figured that would fix the issue if it was related
i guess reinstall it and set the screen off properties a little higher maybe
400 max
100 min
ondemand
(My settings)
or play with the settings till it fixes since im guessing you never reinstalled the rom your on
I tried that once, didn't seem to help but I will give it another shot.
I am running stock DK28 ROM, maybe a fresh install will help?
o and you wouldn't happen to be on viper rom would you ?

Set it at 200 min.
not running viper ROM. I am running stock froyo with root access.
DiGi: Is that what you have it set on? I thought I read somewhere not to set it that low.
I was running on 200 min just fine. I haven't had setcpu on my phone for a little while though. I think 100 is too low and causing the problem. 200 didn't cause crashes for me.
I've been playing with the settings on SetCPU but to no avail. My screen still won't wake up at random.
Any other thoughts? I have again, un-installed SetCPU and am no longer using it but the problem still occurs.

Recently changed my phone to android and my phone wouldn't wake up every time it goes to sleep more. (Radio 2.10.50.2)
looked and tried a lot of suggestions (format SD, flash ROM, update setup.txt file and etc) but nothing worked until I flashed the new radio 2.14.50.
And it's been working fine for a day now (finger crossed).
Do you have adjbrightness? Theres a problem with it on galaxy s phone where it won't wake up that they haven't been able to fix and that may be your problem.
Did you ever figure out how to fix this "no wake up" issue? I had this problem out of the box with my mini. So does my friend.
For anyone getting reboot or shutdown issue try this.
If you applied any custom theme from the theme store, it cause reboot issue.
Either factory reset or choose the DEFAULT theme from the store.
I saw 2 people solving this issue on reddit by applying the default theme back.
i've tried one time, the default setting seems to mitigate (not solve the problem) but in my experience any change you make to the phone will make the problem start and is not reversible.
even though this is probably a Placebo effect, it means even turning on 120hz display, AOD or installing your own apps will make the phone start to behave badly.
After numerous experiments i've also tried to keep the phone on the "first config" page and it still shut down itself in around 10 mins. My problem was far worse than most of other users so i decided to ship it back
This makes me think that my phone had hardware issues or the problem lays too deep into the software to be solvable by the user.

My phone doesn't shut down anymore, since i enabled AOD. But they are aware of this problem.. and they will fix it in the next few weeks.. ;-)
You're supposed to know this issue has been occuring on hundreds of users' on K40's China forum, some of which reboot for several times a day.

For me it's fixed since 12.0.5.0 .. no reboots, no shutdowns.
on 12.0.2.0 and 12.0.4.0 i've had shutdowns every 2-3 hours if AOD was off.
Now AOD is off since 12.0.5.0 and everything is fine!
+1 it's fine too on 12.0.5
Greetings fellow nerds, I'm wondering if anyone else is possibly having this issue? Can be randomly using the device and no specific app or task. Although I have a suspicion it might be something to do with mobile Discord as I know that has a slew of issues on its own on A12. The screen stops responding to touch completely and it will time out as normal and when it turns back on touch is working again. Or if I manually turn the screen off and back on touch is restored. Sometimes it can occur several times a day or not at all, so it's impossible to recreate it on will. I noticed it started happening 1.5-2 weeks ago and I've been removing apps, etc, one at a time to try to narrow the culprit down. I just reverted to the November build in the off set chance that there's some issue with my particular setup on the December build. I don't think it has anything to do with the accessibility issue that I've seen reported. In terms of mods I'm pretty basic: rooted, USNF, lsposed for classic power menu and Kirisakura kernel. I took a logcat right after the issue occurred so if someone more knowledable is inclined to look, I would appreciate it!

I did flip it to safe mode and played around with the device for 30-45 minutes or so and the issue didn't occur. The main issue is the inconsistent nature of the issue and the frequency of the occurrences. I'll have to dedicate another day if the problem does happen when I'm on the Nov firmware and stay in safe mode the entire day when I can spare my device. Thankfully, my phone isn't littered with social apps. I tend to stay away from those.
I believe one or two others in this section mentioned Discord associated with a problem, too.
On my 4XL when I'd use Discord it would crash the system UI but it wouldn't casuse issues unless I was actively using the app. Pretty stumped on what it could be for me.
