Why don't all app's have a exit or close? Take Facebook for instance once, you load that app it stays open no way to close it and taking up battery. Is there a app so you can have theses close.

For crying out loud, search a little. You have a rooted device running Leo Droid and yet NO IDEA how Android manages applications? There are a plethora of task killers (-> google it) around, but also everybody knows they are not needed (-> google it).
Don't get me wrong, I know that not knowing stuff is a perfectly natural thing for a human being (after all, I am a teacher). But in this day and age of information being readily available at the click of your mouse (Google et consortes, this forum's "Search" button...) you still need someone to find/type in the answer to YOUR QUESTION so that you get it on a platter... Sigh.

Multitasking the Android Way

P.S Do NOT use any of those task killers on your 2.1 or later versions of Android phone!
Cheers!
Concerning Facebook I totally understand his complain. Even with disabled notifications and "leaving" the app via backbutton it is listed as the highest battery-consumer (under*#*#4636#*#* --> battery usage while idle).
Since I didn't find a solution for that I uninstalled Facebook. But the other guys are right, as long as an app is programmed well, it does nothing in background and sleeps. No need to close apps or free RAM. Free RAM is always a sign of bad memory management in the OS so keep it filled up as it will speed up your phone!

Thanks facebook is high battery consumer, never used a task killer and I never will.

I have installed the facebook-app and it is no battery drainer for me.
Go to chat, then menu -> go offline.
if the app is closed then it won't sync up itself will it? (or if it does it'll just restart itself again).
say you have facebook to sync each hour - I thought the hour was from open...
so open check news feed, back out of it (facebook still running), after running for an hour it will check again and notify you if you have notifications on...
The only thing that does seem to annoy me slightly is when I open improved email it seems to open a whole host of other apps at the same time, including soundhound, stocks, maps, and about 10 other things... no idea why as it doesn't need those apps opening at all
flashed oxygen rom last night and although its fast there is a distinct lack of features compared to 2.2 sense stock
no google maps or navigation, no youtube and a load of other things
what gives?
They're removed as you can download them yourself from the Market so don't need to be included in the ROM. Simple really
It is meant to be clean, all the stuff you mention you can download from the market. If you can't download it form the market it's probably a sense feature.
And opening a new thread for this makes no sense
can google navigation be downloaded off the market?
with the voice instructions when using gps

hmmm i might reflash oxygen this weekend then
only played with it for an hour last night
does anyone know how to do the app cube on oxygen
seen it on youtube when the app drawer was open the user could spin a 3d cube with the apps on each face
how do you do that on oxygen?
Pretty sure it's a different launcher, Oxygen uses Zeam. If you've got a video I'll check it out
ADW Launcher has a 3D cube interface and LauncherPro can enable a 3d effect app drawer as well.

Same problem I have with the rom. its super fast but my contacts are used a lot ( it is a phone right) and not having my contacts sync properly is kind of a deal breaker for me.... That and the whole video thing with the gingerbread series of builds...

I know about that feature but what I'm talking about is the contacts not syncing properly at all with either twitter or, mostly, facebook contacts.

I found that, but it's pain to join hundreds contacts knowing that I had done it before and it should link most of them automatically.
Does all 2.3 roms have this problem?
Contact sync (I assume Facebook pic sync, birthday calendars, events, etc) are part of the stock sense.
You can replace all of them using apps from the market (free and paid ones...depending on what you want)
E.g:
For facebook pic sync you can use SyncMyPic
For birthdays Ebobirthday
Just google how to include the birthday calendar in your google calendar (pretty cool feature of google calendar that I didnt know was there until I played with this)
As a launcher...I use launcherPro (IMHO, the best one on the market after trying pretty much everything out there). Using the paid version to get a pretty cool (better than the sense one) People widget. It also have a "FriendStream" like widget if that is what you want.
Pretty sure Oxygen will be changing the default laucher as Zeam seems to be not longer maintained (which is a shame...it was pretty good)
PS: sorry, I cant post URL until XDA allows me to
The "Cubed" launcher can be found in the app store if you search "Steven Lin"
As an FYI that is the GingerBread [2.3] launcher. its pretty cool

It'll do them automatically if you have the same name saved on your phone as it appears on Facebook. If not, you'll have to manually join them. No way of getting around it

Pretty much any app that isn't the phone or contacts apk should be safe, too, I think.
(actual apps. Don't delete stuff like CertInstaller.apk or whatever. But if it shows up in your app drawer, it's generally okay to get rid of.)
The only thing I'm not sure about is the visual voicemail. It may act funny with the messages app, since there's a slider for it.
Cdrom.iso really shouldnt be removed. It can cause issues with adb and mounting usb storage. You can dissable the annoying vzw installer by dialing ##program# and hitting call. Enter six zeros for the password. Then go to feature settings and tap on cd rom and dissable it. Hit the menu button and select comit changes. Your phone will reboot and the vzw installer nag wont be there the next time you connect to your pc.

Delete from system/app with root explorer or uninstall/freeze with titanium backup.

Does it matter if I delete them vs. move the APKs to another location? Would I ever need them again for anything?
Well they'll still be taking up space if you move them to another location on the phone, but they wont run or be in your app drawer. If you want to have them just in case, you could always move them to the SD card, then your computer? I can't think of any reason that you'd need them though, even if you wanted them at a later time, you could find them on the market or with a quick googling.
I just back them up and then uninstall them.
I've added Apps (VCast.apk) to the list.

You might want to add HtcLoggers.apk to the list, in light of the recently discovered security hole.
DInc with CyanogenMod 6.1 & Invisiblek #28 kernel.
Using Titanium Backup I have frozen the following apps and remained stable:
Amazon Kindle 0.9.6
AT&T Code Scanner 1.0
AT&T FamilyMap 2.0
AT&T Hot Spots 0.955
AT&T Navigator 1.0
Books 1.5.2
Get HD Games 1.0.0
Live TV 1.0
MOG Music 1.0.2
myAT&T 1.0
Polaris Office 3.0.3132.0 (I have QuickOffice purchased anyway)
Qik Lite 0.1.18
SmartShare 2.0
Social+ 3.0.200
Yellow Pages 2.3.5
YP 1.0
I'm using ADW Launcher EX instead of the regular launcher, and post-reboot Auto Killer Memory Optimizer shows me at about just over 500MB free RAM. Plus the app drawer is cleaner and the phone feels a little snappier
(No, I'm not using this app to kill apps, just to get a report on Services/Processes/RAM.)
(Yes, I realize that number will go down as things get cached, etc. - but I needed something regular to measure against)
I also freezed:
AT&T Address Book
City ID
Dracula
Featured Apps
Home screen tips
LG keyboard
Market Feedback Agent
Zynga Poker HD
Wi-Fi Share (couldn't figure out how to use it)
P.S.
The AT&T Hot Spots are useful if you have hotspots around (airports, starbucks, mcdonalds, etc), plus connecting to WiFi saves battery ALOT.

the only issue with this setup is that you are not in control how often google checks your 6 other accounts, it could be 5 minutes, could be 50.
I prefer push mail, which Nitro lacks of by default unless it's exchange mail.

It's probably the stock Launcher. Which means it is ONLY safe to freeze IF you have another launcher installed that is stable. Otherwise on boot you're going to be in a lot of trouble.

A word of warning about freezing att address book. If you freeze it, you may not be able to add contacts from the phone (i am speaking from my personal experience, if someone could confirm that would be great), even if you do even have any contacts with att address book. I think it is integrated in and breaks something in the stock contacts app that freezes the whole process because when I try to add contacts it freezes on a gray screen. When I unfreeze the app, adding contacts works again.
figured i'd bump this with an update.

That's in addition to deleting all the available apps ATT lets us delete. family finder, etc.
Sorry guys, noob here, but I thought I should add my feedback to this list - I froze nearly every app listed here, (except for a few that I use, like calculator) had setCPU installed, and my phone is now acting really laggy. I'm not really sure what to attribute this to. The root? Frozen apps? I uninstalled SetCPU and tried to defrost the apps I had frozen (both with a batch and individually), but it won't let me. I tried making a copy of the frozen app, then deleting, then re-installing the copied version (suggested on another XDA thread), but that does not work. It just hangs when deleting as well. Can someone else verify that Titanium Backup is defrosting / deleting / restoring as expected on the Nitro?
Another weird side effect is that my internal storage says its almost full, which is crazy considering I never installed a new app after freezing those apps, and last time I checked I had plenty of space. Is it possible for Titanium Backup to be caching somewhere other than the SD? It's pretty weird. I really don't have many apps installed. Also (and perhaps this is due to the low system space, or specifically attributed to a frozen app) But my video playback is crazy laggy now.
Just thought I would post this to see if anyone else is getting weirdness after freezing apps.
setcpu caused similar issues on my phone. i uninstalled it and no more problems
I just factory reset (which I never did after root) and reinstalled setCPU and its working great. I even tested the HD videos again and they are now running smooth. Still a bit scared to start freezing apps again. For now I've just hidden them in launcher pro. Out of sight, out of mind I guess.

I had issues unfreezing Address Book which I did initially without thinking. After I froze it and realized you couldn't add contacts I tried unfreezing it. However, it wasn't on my list of frozen apps or backed up apps. I had to to a factory reset to bring it all back.
So far I haven't had any problems freezing/unfreezing, yet I did not play with many unfreezing apps. However I did notice on some backups (especially if they came from different phone), TB would freeze during restore, but in most cases it turned out to be due to dev mode disabled in the settings (thanks LG for disabling it for us each time we use any options other then "PC connect" when phone connected to PC). So as long as I have dev mode enabled, I don't recall having any problems with TB.
Speaking of SetCPU, I also noticed lagginess with default settings, but it mostly only visible right after reboot. After phone been used for a while it's smooth as iPhone (ok, almost...ok, not really, but close).
This also make me think, that Nitro by default keeps CPU at 1.5ghz at all times, it would explain lagginess if it has to jump from 192mhz to 1.5ghz as per SetCPU default. Maybe if you set min and max to 1.5ghz will it still be more laggy then with no SetCPU?
I have a rooted Galaxy nexus running xenonHD-10-13-12. I re-rooted it a couple weeks ago because the phone randomly started moving from whatever volume phone setting I set it to, to vibrate. It started doing this again, and I have no idea which app must be doing this. Any suggestions?
I am assuming it must be a "feature" of one of my apps. Any advise would be welcomed.
Thanks,
Randy

Could Avast be the culprit? or Callend Vibrate? Or even a setting in LightFlow?

I love both Callend and lightflow. I did uninstalled avast, so we'll see. I though of lightflow, but can't find any setting that could be related.
I was thinking a look through the settings to see what you could find, opposed to just deleting the app. I know Avast is a popular app for phone security, I was trying to think of what apps on your list may have an option for scheduling sound profiles, that's why I mentioned it. You shouldn't have to delete it and go without.
OK I may be in left field with this one.....
but......some ROMs allow a user to create a "user profile" that allows you to customize your device. This feature is there to allow to to switch profiles if say.... you allow you friends or children to use your device. I can't remember which ROM I was on, but it would always vibe no matter what I set it too. I deleted the profile and poof....all was normal after that.
The setting was under menu options and labeled "profile".
Hope this helps...

That's a good idea, I didn't even think about the "profiles" built into CM and other ROMs.

well I don't see any thing that says "profiles" or even remotely sounds like it would be related to that. Also, I had the same issue before I changed roms... which is what led me to change roms.

I am still having the problem if any one else cares to take a guess or offer any suggestions.
