Is this even doable? I'd love some other way of refreshing pages without having to scroll all the way to the top every time. Or is there a way that I'm not aware of with the stock browser?

hit menu then the refresh icon is to the right of the address bar text...
Wow, LOL. I've had this phone since launch and never noticed the address bar drop down when you hit menu. Thanks for the good laugh guys.

There's this one function found both in the default web browser and Dolphin browser that I really would like to just go away. Maybe it's called zoom redraw, maybe it's called smart positioning or smart fit or something, I don't know.
But when you zoom in to a particular part of a web page real far, it seems to want to redraw or refit the page. This bugs me because I feel temporarily lost. I always find myself wishing that the view of the web page would just "stay there" right where it is as my fingers spread. But, sure enough, I lift my fingers from the screen, it shifts the page a little up or left or down or right and this is ANNOYING. Because what I have to do then is zoom in in small incriments so I can see where I actually am and make movement corrections for the zoom redraw and zoom some more.
It doesn't HAVE to be this way cause I notice that Xscope browser doesn't do this. Now, I like Xscope a bit aside from a few things I can't get used to. But my default browser at least for now is Dolphin. Is there a way to stop this from happening in Dolphin?
If you do the about:debug to get into settings enable "gep zoom" I think that might be what you are looking for. Hope that helps ya out.

This is right. This will disable the reflow after pinch-zoom. It will still reflow after double-tap.

Can you elaborate on this please? about:debut? Don't see about as a menu option and when I type in about:debug in the url field (firefox style), nothing happens. Hoe exactly do you do about:debug in Dolphin Browser?

Not sure about dolphin, but try anyway. They way it works with stock browser is put it in address bar without the http, and press go. It will seem like nothing happens screen stays the same, press menu button and go to settings, if it worked then you will have more setting options than usuall, now scroll down untill you see "gep zoom" and check the box. You might have to do this in the stock browser to get it to work and hopefully the setting will carry over to dolphin. If it doesn't maybe somebody that uses dolphin can chime in. try out and report back, hopefully it works for you.
about:debug does work, but resets when the browser is shutdown.

Wonder why? It doesn't with the stock browser...do the settings carry over from stock to dolphin? Try setting it in stock, and see if it works in dolphin. Probably not though since it's different software..
SUPER BuMP!
I would LOVE to know if there is SOME WAY IN HELL to get this done. i cant STAND having it redraw after pinch and zoom. if you want to re justify text, you double tap, thats just the way it is. everytime i try to zoom in on a button to hit it, it moves 3 screens worth of scrolling over. very annoying. This or finding a way to get the stock browser.apk to work in an htc kernel/rom would be just as good. ive looed up certain ways, but most dont work anymore or never worked in the first place.
about:debug is really working, I love you guys!
@ms79723
What do you mean with shutdown? The browser is never really shutdown, or not? I mean Android 2.2 keeps it in the background?
now all the cry baby's got it, adressbar in landscape mode,
but wait, no option to turn it off?!?! wtf happend to fullscreen browsing?
do you type in urls all day? learn how to use favorites and how to touch links damn whiners (7 pro users excluded)
silent happy users its time to stand up
i was quiet pleased that i could fullscreen browse in lanscape.
not possible in mango...
a simple switch could do the trick! if you want fullscreen u need to spread the word, vote for fullscreen browsing!!!!
i'm not 100% sure but i think in one of the demo videos, the guy who was showing off the new browser on mango was able to toggle the address bar on and off
Not really i kinda like it =) Someting new indeed!
Oh well yes there should be a button for fullscreen browsing. Replied to fast thought it was only for the bar location

ahhhh, funny guy.
+1
It eats too many space.
I think they should make the address bar disappear below the screen when browsing and come back up with a flick from the bottom, or a slide from lower left like for the paste icon.
a pop up/pop out address bar icon would be enough for me.
+1 Options! Options! Options!! There should always be OPTIONS!
I'm all for landscape Address bar, but it better go away once i start scrolling

Just like opera mobile 10.
I agree there should be a switch. But even if it turned on it should disappear like opera 10. Then pull it up bu a little tab showing while your browsing.

It's a very common option in forum polls, even if it's only humorous. Pie should always be an option

In my opinion there should be a slider to turn on/off the adress bar in landscape mode and once activated a little button should appear which opens the bar.

It takes too much effort to use bookmarks in Ice Cream Sandwich. The menu does not give an option to go to the bookmarks. Instead you must go to the open tabs selection screen first. That's far too much effort for something that is used often. As well as the menu, the bookmarks are not listed in the Quick Controls option either.
Please add them on the next update.

Long-press the back button will default to the "History" tab.
You must swipe to the right to go to the "Bookmark" tab.
And you must do this every time you want to access the bookmark.
Every single time ... Long-press, swipe right, press bookmark ... repeat ...
That's not efficient, long pressing and swiping then press

Which one? The "Quick Control" ?
There is no option in the Quick Control to access the bookmark!

I don't have a GN, but I agree, that looks like an issue. I like having 1 touch access to my bookmarks. It might get kinda tedious doing what you described
I agree this is an issue, but as a work around, I put all of my commonly used ones as widgets in a single slot on my home screen. That way I can always just hit home, then hit the favorite link.
I do this on my iphone as well, so it's nothing new for me, and I would likely use it this way even if they were easier to get to.
Most of these issues will probably go away once we get all of the decent 3rd party browsers working for ICS (Dolphin, etc)
The Ics 4.0.3 browser has direct access to your Bookmarks via the quick controls. Finally.
Hopefully we'll end up being able to choose our own quick controls..
I agree with this thread, a button to get to the bookmarks with 1 click is necessary.
Yes this is very annoying oversight. Hopefully will be addressed promptly.
This problem is addressed in 4.0.3. This version adds a bookmarks selection in the quick controls.
You can see it in this video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4omtsG1b7g&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL
Here's a screenshot as well.
What can you do now with the Quick Controls? Can you list all of them?
Thanks.

Hey all, just got my S3. Have been living on a G2 for a full 2 years. Had no issues, didnt see a need to upgrade. But I finally did.
I do a lot of news browsing on my fone, part of my job, i was able to double tap the text portion and my G2 would center and fit to screen just the text of the articles. Havent been able to figure out that on my S3. Is it even possible or do i just have to try and zoom and landscape view everything?
Another quick question, quick closing web page currently viewing. Say I was reading an article on one webpage and another window had say um er porn, how would i quick close the porn and go back to the article. (girlfriend is a quiet walker)
I use xscope browser, swipe to the side and the screen changes to your other open page and dbl tap zoom works.

Regarding the text resize issue, the default browser should have that functionality. Check that settings > advanced > auto fit is enabled. If I was worried about hiding pr0n fast I would just hit home and open something random. It'd be like to key presses. I'm guessing switching tabs would have to be the same or more.

but that does not explain the pants around the ankles....
Stock browser has a reading mode. On a lot of sites press the green R in the address bar. Not quite the same but can be nice to use.

This made me chuckle.
Why not just hit the home button ?
Is it really more believable to be going at it to an article about stool softener, solar panels, or Obama than your homescreen ? Homescreen's probably less awkward than Obama, man, unless your girlfriend is into that.
Also, browsers have tabs. Just switch tab ? Delineate browser usage by function ?
Or just look at porn together or something that way you don't have to hide it. :good:
Thanks guys, the autofit actually helped a lot.
"checking for hemoroids" is a good excuse for the pants around the ankles. Has worked for me.
First of all thanks in advance. I was wondering why does my Web browser refresh two times by itself. Every time I go to a Web page I got to wait a couple of seconds so it can refresh a second time.
Second question. How do I get rid of the navigation bar when am using the Internet or just not using it?

Yes when using @xda via your browser for some reason it refreshes twice when you zoom in and start scrolling. For the nav bar go to settings>display>hometouch buttons and you can select which apps you want to hide them on.
