It takes too much effort to use bookmarks in Ice Cream Sandwich. The menu does not give an option to go to the bookmarks. Instead you must go to the open tabs selection screen first. That's far too much effort for something that is used often. As well as the menu, the bookmarks are not listed in the Quick Controls option either.
Please add them on the next update.

Long-press the back button will default to the "History" tab.
You must swipe to the right to go to the "Bookmark" tab.
And you must do this every time you want to access the bookmark.
Every single time ... Long-press, swipe right, press bookmark ... repeat ...
That's not efficient, long pressing and swiping then press

Which one? The "Quick Control" ?
There is no option in the Quick Control to access the bookmark!

I don't have a GN, but I agree, that looks like an issue. I like having 1 touch access to my bookmarks. It might get kinda tedious doing what you described
I agree this is an issue, but as a work around, I put all of my commonly used ones as widgets in a single slot on my home screen. That way I can always just hit home, then hit the favorite link.
I do this on my iphone as well, so it's nothing new for me, and I would likely use it this way even if they were easier to get to.
Most of these issues will probably go away once we get all of the decent 3rd party browsers working for ICS (Dolphin, etc)
The Ics 4.0.3 browser has direct access to your Bookmarks via the quick controls. Finally.
Hopefully we'll end up being able to choose our own quick controls..
I agree with this thread, a button to get to the bookmarks with 1 click is necessary.
Yes this is very annoying oversight. Hopefully will be addressed promptly.
This problem is addressed in 4.0.3. This version adds a bookmarks selection in the quick controls.
You can see it in this video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4omtsG1b7g&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL
Here's a screenshot as well.
What can you do now with the Quick Controls? Can you list all of them?
Thanks.

I stumbled across these and thought I would share. Feel free to add anything you might have found:
If you turn off auto-brightness, you can brighten the screen with a swipe of the finger. Just press the notifications area and move your finger left or right.
On both the homescreen and the apps menu you will see a row of dots indicating which page you are on. Hold the dot and scroll left or right. The pages will quickly scroll until you see the page you want.
You can focus your camera on a specific thing by touching that area on your screen.
In the camera app you can use the volume buttons to zoom in and out. OR you can pinch to zoom in and out.
Mute the Battery Notification (using Tasker) Directions are here.
Swipe left on contact name from the contact list and you'll automatically be able to send a text.
Swipe right on a contact name from the contact list and you'll automatically be able to call them.
Press your home button and lock screen button (power button) at the same time to save a screenshot.
You can scroll much faster on some apps such as YouTube, Astro File Manager and Market by using 3 fingers and if you scroll with 2 fingers you get precise scrolling (no scroll momentum).
Hold down the home button to access recent programs and the task manager.
Good stuff. Thanks!
Very useful tips, thanks!
But aren't these two basically the same thing?

I'll still never understand the logic of having a WHITE background in a messaging app... Talk about a battery killer!
That's one thing I'm going to miss about the Moment. Black background in the STOCK app, rather than having to install a 3rd party app.
All though, if I'm forced to, Go SMS is my preference.

Thanks for the tip! It worked but now I have a followup question. Is there anyway to use the Handcent Icon widget in my dock? One of the reasons I love Handcent is the widget that shows how many unread messages I have.
FYI, other reasons I like Handcent: the lockscreen popup, it allows me to use my own sounds/mp3s as ringtones and alarms, Emoji pack allows me to send and receive emoji icons with my iPhone friends
U can hold 2 points on the screen like with ur thumbs for example. Then tilt ur phone forward or back to zoom. Just like that 10.1 tablet

Can you turn off the silly "bubble" chat with Handcent yet? Last time I tried it (a year ago) I couldn't stand the comic book look.
I'll probably use Go SMS until a dev over at SDX reverse releases a black version of the stock SMS.apk.
I'm also hoping the old version of GMail works so I can copy it over and use it with LauncherPro with working mail counts.
U dont have to have to have the bubble look. Handcent gives us different options. Android style is included if u r curious

Honeybar is a good app to hide/unhide the notification bar in android 3.2. Its great but i have noticed a little lag. Anyone else notice this?
I have been using HoneyBar for a day now. I haven't noticed any slowing of my A100 - what exactly do you mean by "lag"?
Some applications are not optimized for the tablets full resolution an in turn lags/stutters/run slow.... I also use Honeybar allot but can't in some games
Sent from Wicced's rooted A100 16gb HoneyComb 3.2 using XDA PREMIUM
Input lag, menu lag. Its not real bad, but its there.
Honeybar although does the job causes stutter in home and app drawer. Just glad I only paid $1. I use this one called HideBar and doesn't affect performance at all and ofcourse no lag and better interface to hide and several options to unhide. And its free! Kudos to the dev.

man, lag is definitely something annoying.
but whats worse, is on portrait mode, you can't click recent app button without triggering the hide bar button!!
contact the dev today, and we'll see what happens
@aznmode thanks for the info about Hidbar, will check it and report back, definitely worth the try
update:
tried the app, and looks GREAT
on both landscap and portrait mode, but i hoped it wasn't with a notification bar (less stack)

What do you mean less stacked? I love hide bar. I'm thinking about creating a new thread for it. Since this thread title is Honeybar specific.
we should start up a new thread for all the various tweeks found scattered throughout this forum. Although once I get around to zipaligning and deodexing this rom I'm going to try to release it as a one stop solution. You'll just have to push the system.img file through adb (I hope it works).

well, with the additional icon for the tweak(to click on and hide). I just didn't like more stuff on my tab bar!
i think it would be great if someone could get the home button to hide and unhide the bar at bottom. Make it a full screen button. Could it be done?

Thats true theres already a lot of stuff in the task bar BUT the taskbar is always there no matter what app you're in so its quicker access. Id rather it be there than to have another button floating around my screen or to have it as a widget.
Maybe if you have a better idea how to activate/deactivate it we can email the developer to see what he can do?

An extra icon isnt so bad IMO. As far as making the home button hide/unhide is a good idea but I like having the home button be a home button when I have the status bar hidden. So when I'm in full screen and I need to go home I just press it. Otherwise Id have to press it to enable status bar, then press home on the status bar, then press it again to disable status bar to go back to full screen. So for me this would be 50/50 advantage.

I can easily make a modified version of the application to hard code our home button in there to hide/unhide the taskbar, but I don't want to face being banned because I "stole" code. Anyway I would just like to give back to the community because of people like crossix stepping up.

I can't recommend the xda app enough
I've changed my keyboard to swiftkey x and love it more compared to stock. Just feels easier to type with all this screen space. Only thing I can really recommend so far, I haven't entirely got it all setup how I'd like yet as I've been switching between my sg2.

One nice touch is pinch / zoom in the message app. Sometimes if I go out without my glasses, under certain lights I struggle. Just being able to resize text on the fly without messing with setting options is great.
Although it's a little bit old now, I love quick controls on stock browser. Enough to make me stick with it over chrome....for now anyway.

Definitely replace the browser! I like Smart Keyboard Pro but there are many good ones.
Neat tricks in sense... in the gallery there is a dropdown box to browse your/other peoples facebook galleries without having to use that steaming pile of a facebook app. Soundhound integration into radio app/widget is nice. Love the lockscreen when you get an sms/email etc.

"guest mode"
anybody knows how to enable it? cannot seem to find it
some valuable 3rd party apps:
1tap cleaner - configurable to auto clean cache as frequent as every hour
screen off & lock - i personally put it on the dock so i don't have to always reach the power button
wifi file explorer - wireless data transfer
screebl - even you set your screen timeout to 15seconds, the screen won't time out as long as you handle your phone to the angle/axis you set on the configuration, good for reading on internet or books
I love the fact you can take pic from recorded video, brilliant.

yup I think its what they call HTC gestures, wish they ate detailed somewhere
but one thing I suspect gestures mode seems to confuse the browser
OK, here's are two cool ones for you:
1. Quick Uninstall: from the app drawer, tap & hold on any "un-installable" app, you'll see the the bar at the top of the screen change to Cancel and Uninstall. Drag to Uninstall, confirm.... DONE. Compare this to Android's default behaviour!
2. Go to the Gallery app, pick a pitcure, tap Edit->Effects. Apply any effect, first, then tap Edit at the top right corner. You get to adjust Exposure, Sharpness, Contrast, Saturation, Vignette, add and combine MORE filters etc... and when you're done, you can save your adjustments as a NEW PRESET!
Awesome, yes?

This one has been around since Sense 3.0. You don't even need to scroll, just tap with two fingers at the relevant spot on the screen (tap on the bottom will take you to bottom entries, top to top entries!). You can also use it in:
- People - Scrolls by letter
- Dialer - Scrolls by letter
- Most other apps scroll by Date: Gallery, Messaging, Mail...
Surely its swipe all the way. It's the best keyboard out there
I can't really get away with swiping to write. I used to use Swype back on Symbian/S60, but I much prefer SwiftKey's predictive text. Once you've used it for a little while (and it's learned from your emails/texts/social networking), you only really have to type the first couple of letters of a word for it to supply what you want. And if you're really predictable (or boring?) like me, once you've got the first word or two you can get through the bulk of a sentence with only one tap for each subsequent word. I struggle without it now, because it removes so much thought from typing on the phone keyboard.
Although we are kind of straying away from the 'nice features of the phone' discussion

Well, I had an idea of how I might be able to help you if you use Apex. It didn't work. Instead I found a shortcut to a little CM easter egg. At least I've never seen it or heard it mentioned...
With Apex, long press on the home screen. Tap "Select Shortcut", then "Activities", Scroll down to "Settings" and click the arrow to expand it into a list. Scroll to "CIDCircus" and select it. You'll have to remember where on your home screen you created the shortcut, because it has no icon, so it is basically invisible. But then click it.
I'll keep looking around to see if I can help you, but if you want a third party way to do it I highly recommend Profile Scheduler. There is a free version you could use to see if you like it. It doesn't do the app groups, but I've never used that functionality so I don't miss it.
Edit: Just found out how to directly access that easter egg. Maybe this was already known: In System Settings > About Phone > CyanogenMod version tap it over an over like the normal android easter eggs, then long press on the logo after.
Hello all,
I am rooted with SuperSU 2.67, running EX kernel and stock ROM. Is there any known mod or a way to edit my build.prop so that softkey input (say, long press on the overview key) triggers a screenshot? I have searched but so far found nothing. This would be a very useful feature and I am sure others would use it too, as taking screenshots on the N5X is a bit awkward.
What is awkward about taking screenshots like every other phone out there? Have you tried taking a screen shot with an LG G2 or 3 or 4? That is awkward.
That said, my guess is there is an xposed module that allows you to reassign the software keys to do this. You or someone else could modify the stock systemui.apk to allow a long press of one of the buttons to take a screenshot.

Mine does it right now. I have google now launcher installed but i use Nova (i don't have any buttons configured in it.). I am running xTrafactory. Does yours not open google? I had never tried it until today.
FWIW, there are dozens of screen shot apps on the Playstore that use various strategies to capture.
For Example, Screenshot Capture by AppDoodle runs as a service and overlays a small button on the screen and captures at the touch of that button. The app can also be set up to shake the phone for screenshots.

Yes, Google opens when I long press the home button. But Home button launcher allows you to open any app(s) by long pressing the home button. For example you can have long press home to open straight to Google Voice search rather than the Google App.

I have tried several Play Store apps, but none of them give the functionality I want and/or run some kind of service that could be a battery drain.
@PiousInquisitor there probably is an xposed module for this floating around somewhere, but I am not currently running xposed. I guess for now the best course of action is to see about modifying systemui.apk :dread:
