Orange 1.15.61.10 to 1.22.61.1 update - Desire General

A lot of people on this forum are following the "Orange UK Froyo 2.2 upgrade date released" thread, which has turned into a bit of a guide to debranding/slagging off Orange thread.
Anyway, the ONLY point of this thread is for people to subscribe to the thread (use the "Thread tool">>"Subscribe to this thread" at the top of the page) so that when Orange finally release the 1.15.61.10 to 1.22.61.1 update, people can reply to this thread. That way as soon as someone replies (that the update is available) everyone that is not clever enough to write a script can get an email notification that the update is available.
So, please only post a comment here if you get the update (not the 2.2 update).

good idea
still a waiting game thou

Also still waiting..
Got my brown Desire with 1.15 software in February. Still have 1.15. I'm on a 24 month plan so can't afford to void the warranty.
Pretty poor service form Orange that although one of the first to recieve the phone, it looks like I'll be one of the last to be able to use my device to it's full potential with Froyo.

http://blog.gamermatrix.co.uk/?p=194
If you want the update to install manually, no need for nandroid backups etc, but I dont know anyone who has tried this.

That is an old and redundant thread, and nothing to do with this one...

I have had my phone about 3 months so must have been one of the last ones with 1.15...
I agree with all the above - the service from Orange regarding this upgrade has been diabolical - this is an incremental upgrade which was pushed out on other networks months ago. If it wasn't for the stupid and unnecessary Orange applications and game demos, it would have been a simple and easy OTA upgrade which would have left us ready for 2.2

They don't even NEED this pre-requisite, Vodafone released 2 versions of the 2.2 OTA - one for those on 1.19.161.x and one for those on 1.24.161.x so anyone could update.
Orange have really messed up here

I will keep you posted for the final testing result.
Sorry for the inconvenience.'

i just checked manually and i have been offered the upgrade
downloading now

Just checked and I've been able to download and its installing now

Direct link for manual flashing:
http://liveimage.htc.com//OTA_Bravo...61.1_R-1.15.61.10_releasewj7ctoapvmrkdk44.zip
To manually install:
1. Rename file update.zip (not update.zip.zip)
2. Copy to root of SD card
3. Reboot phone into HBOOT (hold down volume down and press power)
4. Select 'Recovery' and when at the red ! hold volume up and press power
5. Select 'apply SD:update.zip'
6. Follow instructions

Is there anyway to install this on a rooted phone? As I keep on getting an error when trying to install :/

Just downloaded the update. will check to see if the 2.2 update is sent after this has installed. looks like orange werent being truthful when they said not everyone can get the update at the same time!

Downloading now! Woohoooo

No, you need stock

So I can't actually ever unroot this phone/get the update unless the Orange RUU is leaked or debrand and get the other FroYo update. Is there no way to fake flash stock recovery?

Downloading 2.2 now...manual check after installing 1.22

Oo I have just got 1.22.61.1 installed
EDIT: Even better the phone is now unrooted

Nice one. How come it went wrong before? Did you do something different?

Yea I chose install but i got a not verified error. I then went into the install from SD and turned verification off. I then went back into the main menu and pressed apply update.zip and it finally worked. I checked recovery after and it was back to stock

Yes/No answers for 1.21 update on rooted desire from Orange needed - can you help?

Ok, I get a message asking to update to 1.21 but before I said yes I thought I would check the forum just in case, and I am now more confused than before. So, a few simple yes and no answers to questions would be great.
I rooted my phone the other day to get rid of all the orange software. So now have a generic rom, etc. details:
Firmware update: 2.1-update1
Baseband version (radio): 32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11 (had to install from SD after rooting as the radio that came with the generic ROM sim/network locked my phone - thanks to XDA members for swift reply and help!)
Kernal version: 2.6.29-82821fb5 [email protected] #1
Build number: 1.15.405.4 CL155070 release-keys
Software number: 1.15.405.4
Browser version: WebKit 3.1
I had assumed that by rooting my phone I had unlocked it from Orange and could accept any updates from HTC etc without any problems. So, first stupid question - is that correct? am I completely unlocked from Orange?
Can I update 1.21 update with no ill effects?
If I install update will I be sim locked?
Can I get rid of sim lock by re installing radio as before?
If Froyo is eventually realesed and I update to it will it lock my phone back to Orange?
If I get locked by 1.21 can I just make a Goldcard and follow instructions for desire's with 0.80 bootloader and 1.21 firmware?
Sorry, I have tried search and reading (and reading and reading) but I ended up getting more and more confused. Am happy for simple yes/no answers as I quite happy to stick to 1.15.
Only things that worried me is that Orange 3G/mobile internet connection was all over the place today, on/off, on/off, could get, would then dissappeared - am hoping it was Orange and not the rooting I did the other day.
Hopefully the yes/no answers can be refered too for future posters with update/orange issues (just a thought)
Cheers
First of all, there is a thread for the 1.21 update. Here it is: link
You could have asked there, or look through the thread if someone before you have asked the same question(s).
Second of all, there is a thread too about the 1.21 update and Orange branded phones: Here it is: link (and few others, but I will leave for you to find them on your own).
And now I got tired giving you links to threads already existing which cover most of your questions, which are on the first page of this subforum, so I dont have energy to answer the rest of your questions, sorry.
Hi,
Do you work for Orange Customer Services?
If you understood my post rather than just read it you would have realised that I had searched and read and that I had got confused.
Hence the apologetic tone of the post and request for simple yes/no answers.
So, you have been more than unhelpful. Your facetious reply will have taken you longer than to say yes/no to the questions. There really is no need.
Anyway, as you say, you're tired. I suggest Horlicks and an early night.
If I install update will I be sim locked?
Probably. That or lose WiFi. It'll cost you less than a tenner to unlock though and I think it's worth it. I, as many others did got my unlock code from a guy on eBay. Got the code in minutes:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300434867258#ht_1893wt_911
Can I get rid of sim lock by re installing radio as before?
I honestly have no idea but I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere so I'm gonna say no as the bootloader is updated to 0.8 and disables downgrading.
If Froyo is eventually realesed and I update to it will it lock my phone back to Orange?
Nobody knows but if it does and you've bought an unlock code you can just pop it back in.
If I get locked by 1.21 can I just make a Goldcard and follow instructions for desire's with 0.80 bootloader and 1.21 firmware?
Again, no idea.
Update: I de-branded and unlocked my Orange Desire and it's working better than ever. Faster in places, important bug fixes, and better battery. Plus you get rid of the Orange crapware and get some space back! Definitely recommend
Hi Steve,
Thanks for the reply (I got distracted by the Mighty Boosh). It's kind of cleared it up. I was wondering about agreeing to the update, but I'll wait until tomorrow and get an unlock code just in case (thanks for the link!). Seems the most sensible way.
There's no rush as I am happy with 1.15 really. It'll be interesting to see what happens when Froyo comes out from HTC.
I used to have WM phones and thought I'd get the Desire and stop my tinkering - Orange put paid to that with all the crap they put on the phone; Orange are so annoying sometimes!
Cheers
Paddy
I'm still wondering how they won "Best Network" last year. I've had nothing but problems with them since I switched from O2.
Personally I'd de-brand. Your phone'll function better and if you keep your goldcard in the phone whenever you update OTA there shouldn't be a problem. 1.21 has fixed a lot of the 1.15 issues that really niggled me.
Oh, and as for The Mighty Boosh; yeuch I'll stick to The IT Crowd

You have 2 options:
1) buy unlock code > insert gold card > do OTA update > it will simlock your phone > enter code > you will have unbranded and unlocked phone that you could update to Froyo OTA (when it appears) with goldcard inside
2) flash rooted update without radio:
http://rapidshare.com/files/395319842/rootedupdate-1.21.405.2-SU-2.1-signed.zip
(procedure for flashing depends on method you're using, fake flash or push files from your pc to enter recovery)
here's old school flash method taken from http://nimbu.amorvi.com/2010/05/how-to-root-your-htc-desire/
0. insert gold card and put rooted update on it
1. Turn on your phone while holding the volume down button.
2. You will see HBOOT on the screen.
3. Use the volume buttons to move up and down and power button to select the RECOVERY option.
4. You will now see a red triangle on the screen, at this point plug your phone into your PC via your microUSB cable.
5. Unzip the file pushfiles_windows.zip that you downloaded earlier, and double click on recovery-windows.bat inside this unzipped folder.
6. Once you run it you will notice, the screen of your device change to a green recovery image menu.
7. In the recovery image, Select Wipe > Wipe Data/Factory Reset using the optical trackpad
8. Now, from the same menu, select Flash ZIP from SDCard and choose the rooted update. Confirm with the optical trackball. This process may take a while so be patient.
9. When the flash has finished, reboot, and you are DONE!

fake flash method is even easier (and safer), and I will recommend it
you will have 1.21 and preserve current radio version

Yes and no. You are now free from Orange crap, but if you accept an OTA upgrade you will lose root.
Can I update 1.21 update with no ill effects?
As has been advised, you should only update to 1.21 by using a rooted custom rom with the radio removed. Or update to it, and if you are sim locked, downgrade the radio (baseband)
If I install update will I be sim locked?
Probably yes
Can I get rid of sim lock by re installing radio as before?
Yep
If Froyo is eventually realesed and I update to it will it lock my phone back to Orange?]
Not if you wait and install the rom once the devs have worked on it and rooted it. Again, any official rom from HTC will unroot your phone.
If I get locked by 1.21 can I just make a Goldcard and follow instructions for desire's with 0.80 bootloader and 1.21 firmware?
Yes, as long as your bootloader is 0.80 or was upgraded to 0.80

[Q][RUU] extracting rom.zip file and flashing not rooted and s-on

Ok so that this is up front so that everyone understands.. I do not care about root and have no plans to root this phone for a while. (This is my primary phone and I need it working and not bricked)< I have personal reasons for not wanting root at this time so please don't ask.
Now my question is the following:
If I extract the rom.zip file from RUU that was leaked yesterday will I be able to just rename the file to PB31IMG.zip and place it in the root of my SD card. Then boot into hboot and apply the update?
From the threads I have found so far on how to do this state that the phone will do a quick reboot while applying this update. This is caused by the updating of hboot from what I have see. Then I'm suppose to just tell it again to apply the update. < Is Applying the update the second time safe?
Will this work to flash my phone to the new version of the android, hboot, radio and so forth? I just want to apply the update instead of waiting days or weeks for verizon to finally push it to my phone via OTA.
I'm currently with the following settings.
S-On
Hboot .77
Stock Android 2.1 update-1(not rooted)
radio 100
Additional Information.
I've tried just using the RUU but due to driver conflicts it keeps giving me the USB error. The most I've ever gotten was the phone into the bootloader then the RUU loses connection. Tried this on 3 machines now and it still fails. And yes I've installed HTC Sync only on 2 of those 3 machines and it still fails..
To be honest, I would say just wait for the OTA, Verizon themselves have confirmed it has been/will be released today 8/27. Then there will be no worrying, since you don't want root this would be the best way.

I'm sorry this has nothing to do with what you're asking, I've read, and don't know sorry man, but I do have a quick question for you. I see you have never rooted, or maybe or have, I thought maybe you hadn't for some reason, but anyway, I see you HBOOT it .77, how long have you had your phone since?
Yes I had rooted the phone recently for about 2 weeks then it got messed up but thanks to an unrevoked member I was able to recover the phone. It wasn't bricked or anything but some how the NAM was messed up which prevented me from using *228 to update roaming or my ability to activate the phone after a factory reset. I do remember it having hboot .79 before rooting though.
Update: I verified that the hboot in the stock restore img file I used had only hboot 77 in it and not 79. This means I downgraded to 77 without knowing it at first. (From the threads I have read it is stated that .77 and .79 are interchangeable so I don't think I need to worry about it when the ota comes I hope..)
I've had it for about 3 months now so I'm out of the return policy and I do like the phone and have no intention of returning it.
After trying root out for those 2 weeks I found that for me I didn't really gain anything that seemed worth it for my personal needs.
Also I like to tinker with stuff but since I'm in a 2 year contract I rather not take the risk of bricking it and having to pay for the next 2 years for service I can't even use due to my own fault of breaking the device.
Right now I'm just wondering if it is safe to apply the file that can be found in the ruu without root and without breaking the device since it has the same build number and radio number as the update that verizon has stated on the update page.

were these all brand new phones, refurbs..?
To my understanding of this whole .77, .79 HBOOT is that these two are interchangeable and doesn't matter which one you have. I was just curious because at first I used the RUU that gave me software 1.22.605.0 and the latest is 1.22.605.2 and I never got an OTA update for the latest 2.1. but I think this is normal since the servers are doing the new thing.
and from what I think, if you had .77, and got the OTA for the latest 2.1 that came out a while ago, it kept the .77, but if you did the latest 2.1 through the RUU on ur computer instead of OTA it updated the HBOOT to .79 as well.
This is how it was with the Droid Eris with the leaks and stuff which blocked you out of root.

Phone # 1 - New ... would get hotter and hotter (even when not in use) until it would enter a reboot cycle. It would also reboot randomly during the day.
Phone # 2 - Refurb ... got it with a bad speaker, but otherwise it worked perfectly.
Phone # 3 - Refurb ... still going.

Well I took the plunge and can confirm that the method in my original post does work and without a hitch(For me at least.)I did this after reading another question thread that had a guy basically asking the same thing and was recommended just to follow to step 6. I cannot link to anything yet so I will just give you the thread title that is located in the Q&A section of this forum for the droid incredible.
Thread Title: "[Q] Applying RUU update to stock phone"
The phone did however reboot the bootloader and put me into fastboot. I did not pull the battery but instead selected bootloader again and it continued the update on its own.
I'm successfully not root and s-on with android 2.2(HTC stock)
Hboot .92
Stock Recovery.
*Before you say it.. I know I'm now not able to get root till unrevoked or another dev team releases new tools for this version. I did this by choice*
*I in no way will recommend anyone to do this and will not take responsibility for your phone being turned into a paper weight* < You have been warned..
Sooooo.. anyone want to clarify how to extract rom.zip from the RUU please?
Just download the extracted ROM. It's on page 6 or 7 in the RUU thread.

[Q] 2.2 OTA update issues

Hi guys,
I have a Desire I bought unlocked on eBay. Though initially thinking it was factory unlocked, and having bought it under that pretense, I now think it's been unlocked by some other means. It doesn't appear to be rooted, having no superuser app but I'm not sure how else it could have been unlocked? If any one can shed some light here, that would be great.
I received the OTA update tonight, and after downloading and resetting it simply wouldn't get past 90% on the install before resetting itself. After about 15 minutes I switched it off and switched it on again, and it booted into my homescreen, with a "loading" alert and a rotating circle, no percentage.
Eventually that stopped, and it looked like everything was ok. I checked the version and it said I was running 2.2. Awesome, so I go about my business and realise I have no 3G or wireless connections. I check the settings and under WiFi it says "error", and I can't enable it. My APN is gone too. I can get that online, but it seems like there's an issue with the radio so I haven't bothered. It doesn't connect to the network anyway. It also resets occasionally, it seems when it has to load SenseUI but I can't confirm this.
What could it be? I'm not sure where the phone came from. It's a Black a8181 model with the Orange case branding, but the OS is unbranded. The locale is English (Singapore/Taiwan/a few others), though I thought the Black model was only in the UK. I'm in Australia, on vodafoneAU.
Is there anything I can do?
Cheers guys, I really hope I haven't (basically) bricked it.
Firstly, removing the SIM lock from the phone has nothing to do with rooting. Usually, you just stick in an "incorrect" SIM, and it will ask for an unlock code which you can buy online.
Given that the OTA update was a patch, it sounds to me like you have a partially patched ROM and this is causing your problems.
However, since it basically boots up and works to a fashion, it isn't bricked and chances are it is fairly easily recovered.
IMHO, you have two options.
1. Install a 2.1 RUU to downgrade your phone.
2. Root the phone using UnreEVOked and load a custom 2.2 ROM.
Both of these should be quite easily so long as your previous attempt to upgrade hasn't already updated HBOOT.
Turn you phone off and then power on again whilst holding down the volume down button - your phone should boot into HBOOT.
Look for the HBOOT version on the second line and post back what it says here.
Regards,
Dave
You've received a branded phone that has been debranded (you should have been told this) - you can't upgrade these without a goldcard. What's happened is part of the upgrade has worked, but other parts failed.
To recover you'll need a goldcard, which will be more difficult to make with the phone rebooting all the time.

If the OP can get UnrEVOked running, and doesn't mind having a custom recovery image (good thing!), he/she shouldn't need a goldcard.

That's true, though it does mean going down the custom ROM route, which might not be wanted.
Thanks guys, that's really good info.
I'm not too concerned about running custom ROMs, I've been thinking about doing it for a while, just don't know enough about how to root and flash. There are some good guides here, I'm just a bit nervous about doing it. I also don't know what the best ROM would be. I'm really just after a factory standard Desire with Sense ROM, the most out of the box it could be.
I assume an RUU is like a rollback? In which case, what would I be rolling back to. I have no idea how it was debranded, so I don't know what ROM I'd need to roll back to.
As for the goldcard, what would that do? Is that rolling back, or fixing what I have now? It doesn't crash too often, I can probably baby it through.
Sorry for the questions guys, just want to know my options. I didn't think it was too badly bricked, but you never know. I bricked my XDA Mini II trying to flash a new ROM, so you can see my hesitation :/
An RUU is an official way to flash the phone with HTC's own software. That is how the phone was debranded in the first place, and you can do the same to get it back to normal. It does require a goldcard though, which is a minor software patch on the sdcard.
If you root and install a custom ROM (and update the radio) you'll have a working phone again, and you can make a goldcard in your own time.
If I go with an RUU, will OTA updates work? That's really the only thing I'd miss about a custom ROM, the convenience of OTA.

Cool, will the process in the link in your sig do the trick? And the goldcard, will I need to keep it in permanently, or only when updating? Trying to decide if I should use a dedicated card for it, or include it on the card I keep in there.
Thanks for the help, I'll run the RUU tomorrow morning.
I'm trying to run unrevoked to root and reflash it, but it get's to a point and fails, saying "failed to flash recovery image".
Any thoughts?
EDIT:
I've now created a goldcard and am trying the downgrade process in the link in your sig. I've followed all the instructions, but when I ran the downgrade util, after asking for my password, nothing happens.

Yeah, that's my fault for leaving a testing point in the Mac/Linux version of the utility. It was mentioned in the bugs section, but probably not made clear enough. It's fixed now.

[Q] Official Update Not Working

Hey guys, I should have posted this about a month (maybe even longer) ago, but I've been dealing with some health issues and couldn't be bothered. First off I have a rooted phone (with S-OFF) but I like keeping the stock sense build. I upgraded OTA to 2.2 some time ago, then there was an OTA update a few months after that (which I was able to install without any problems after I replaced a couple of files that had gotten modified), now this newer OTA update refuses to install.
It tells me it needs to reboot to start installing so I click the button to reboot and it counts down, but it never reboots. Is it somehow detecting that my phone is rooted? I would like to have the most up to date OTA update installed on my phone at all times so any help or ideas would be great (also I'm sorry if this has been covered before, I did search but I've been afk for a bit so I might have missed some things).

Read this thread, it tells you how to get back to 2.2 stock, then download the latest Unrevoked to root again and obtain s-off...

Blah I have to go back to 2.2 stock? Oh well, it's not the worse thing in the world (I already had to do it once) and those are great instructions (plus I've wanted to have the latest version of Clockworkmod installed for a while and using Unrevoked means I won't have to mess with the payload/su/etc files). Thanks!
I also thought of something (kind of late though). I was using a custom kernel, which might have been the issue too. But I went ahead and re-enabled S-On, however now for some reason my phone is checking for errors on my SD card (no idea how long it will take, or why it's doing that), but does anyone have a link for that 17.7mb file of the 3.26.605.1 update? I found the full RUU, but it's huge and I rather just upgrade than possibly wipe everything out (and I don't know when my phone will have the OTA ready again). Thanks for any help!
Is it necessary to update or downgrade then upgrade the OS?

That seems to be what that linked thread says, but I don't believe that is correct (that's why I am looking for that 17.7mb OTA file). I was able to install the first 2.2 update (aka 2.2.1) without issue after I restored some files that were altered (either by rooting or installing the wireless tether app that's hosted on Google Code). However this OTA update (aka 2.2.2) isn't popping up again for me to install, so I am going to see if I can extract just the upgrade data from the official RUU. I have to wait until later tonight because I need my phone to be operational for another few hours but I'll post back with results (and files if need be =).
Yeah I tried the RUU update and as expected it did a total wipe... bringing back system via nandroid and will try something else.
Edit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=969973 <= using Jay's thread, which is much like the post that was first given to me in this thread. Not re-enabling S-ON seems to be the problem... lesson learned, don't try shortcuts unless you know what you are doing (and I've been afk from the "Dinc Scene" too long for that =p.
Edit 2: Up to date and 100% working!

[Q] Desire HD Deleted Stock Apps and Cant Upgrade To 2.3 Help

Hey guys i deleted some of the bloatware that came with my Desire HD a while ago and now when i go to update the software to 2.3 i get an exclamation mark inside a triangle and once i reboot its still 2.2 is there anyways to restore it to how it once was and then update to 2.3? Ive looked around and seen that if i had the zip file of the 2.3 i could still possibly do it without having to go and restore 2.2 of which i dont have a backup or even no where to start to look or how to do. Any help would be much appreciated
Are you rooted? and S-off?
Also, did you download the .zip file, or did you update it through 'System Update' on the phone?
What message do you get when trying to update? does it say its completed? or ... ?
And what FW is your phone (or software build)

no i didnt download the zip file as im unsure as to where to get it and which one is correct for my phone =( i tried the update through the system update.
no it doesnt complete it looks as if it goes to install it but after about 20 seconds the red exclamation mark appears and it will sit like that until i restart. I no its because of removing the bloatware as ive heard other people with this problem but ive no idea where to actually download the new zip file for 2.3 or even 2.2 to just revert it back completely to stock.
im rooted but not the s-off thing ive never touched that
Well if you want 2.3, here is a link :-CLICK HERE (credit goes to andyharney)
In this page, you'll find a ACE_GINGERBREAD version, which is 2.3 (its a WWE version).
This will work. But if you're using the phone on a carrier which releases their own ROMs (which is basically a small modification to some code, mostly the radio) it'll would be better to try to find a .zip file for that specific carrier (it doesnt mean WWE wont work, and wont be good, ... , it just means its better).
If you're carrier doesnt releases its own version, then download from the link above.
Thanks CodeNameUnknown1 =) i think mines unbranded i can use any simcard with it and it hasnt got all the usual carrier rubbish on it *looks at orange* how would i go about installing the zip file is it just a case of placing it on the SD card and then booting into the recovery part almost like when you root it?
