[Q] HTC 8788 - Next Touch Pro "7" or Tilt "7"? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

The new HTC 8788 scheduled to be released December 2010 will have a sliding keyboard and Windows Phone 7. Is this the next generation of the Touch Pro 2 and Tilt 2? Link courtesy of PDAdb.net - http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=2567&c=htc_t8788

Sweet! I will be keeping an eye on this device for sure. It looks to be the closest to the TP2 thus far. The Samsung phone has incredible specs, but it's built like a toy and does not come close to HTC quality. The TP2 is a tank and this new device looks great. Hopefully the great guys here at XDA can come up with great ways to make WP7 more like the way winmo is now with customizable mods. This place is where Windows Phone 7 will get a helping hand; not Microsoft. Sad but true.
This is odd. The phone is listed as having full QWERTY support, but this site is stating that when you slide it out, it's a speaker. ??? This is a weird phone.
http://newbestgadget.com/cell-phone/htc-t8788-windows-phone-7-review

Just FYI, I know the post next to that picture says HW keyboard but that phone shown in the pic is explained to have a multimedia speaker and no KB. Confused.

This phone has a slide-out speaker, not a slide-out keyboard. So not a successor to the TP2.

Slide out speaker? Meh.

The second phone you are looking at is not the HTC PRO 7 IS THE HTC 7 Surround there are two different phones so the succesor is HTC PRO 7 with full qwerty keyboard and tilt. And its thenext phone i am buying for sure

Raphael or Rhodium ?

Hi there,
I´m an old time kaiser user, and Im currently planning to replace it with a Touch Pro or Touch Pro 2.
Basically, I have found out that both phones are "the same"... is that right ? Are there any important differences between the TP and the TP2 ?
Im looking for a sturdy phone. The kaiser is well and alive after almost 2 years using it, but... I think that if the rhodium is all out silver plastic, I think it is more susceptible to scratching and such...
Oh well... any opinions would be helpful.
Tia
I just bought my touch pro2 last week and have been overjoyed with it, save for a couple of issues regarding battery life. You can check these out in the 'got mine' thread in this subforum.
To better compare these two, head on to youtube and check out the touch pro VS touch pro2 video from pocketnowvideo. to summarise some of the differences -
1. touch pro2 has a bigger screen, 3.6 inches
2. tp2 has a higher resolution, 480 x 800, tp is 480 x 640.
3. improved TouchFLO 3D interface, it's almost perfect now.
there are other differences, so i suggest you check out the youtube video, or head on to www.pocketnow.com and check out their review of the TP2.

If $ is not a problem I would go for TP2 definetly.
It´s a fact that technology is making devices everyday more easyly replaceble...
OMG OMG OMG!!! I couldn´t wait!!! I just bought it!!!
Really really anxious!!!!
Good Move! Let us know how U like the new toy...
I have all mentioned devices and Rhodium is really the best!
Rhodium for sure
still own a Raphael but the Rhodium owns his little brother
far more intergrated menu's, landscape touch flo and so on!
even has a own BT app or so to set up bluetooth
i'm very very glad I bought the phone
Just received the tracking number... aaaaaaaarhhh!!!!!!
As per this link the Touch Pro 2 processor is worse than Touch Pro processor.
http://www.pestaola.gr/how-advanced-are-htc-touch-pro2-and-htc-touch-diamond2/
Processor used in Touch Pro2 was released in 2007 90nm (Qualcomm® MSM7200A™, 528 MHz)
Processor used in Touch Pro was released in 2008 65nm (Qualcomm® MSM7201A™ 528 MHz)

http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=cpu&id=a7201&c=qualcomm_msm7201
Not sure why an old processor was used in TP2
I still vote for TP2 .
I was about to post "oh that´s so stupid!" but then I realize.... that in fact it is a smart move from HTC, as stated on the site. They´ll prolly make more money.
Well... at least they´ll have mine...
Got it!
It is so sexyeh!!!! But batt life sux... well, let´s see how it will behave on a normal work day.

Blackstone - falling into oblivion?

Hello Xda fellows
Does anyone else have a strange feeling that our beloved blackstone is slowly but for sure falling into oblivion?
sigh
yes, of course it is. it is three genrations old now (touch pro 2 and diamond 2 are next generation and htc leo is the newest).
However, this doesnt mean its going to be forgotten. the android project is really gaining ground. the "improving gfx performance" guys have just released a killer graphics pack and all of the apps made in future for the td2 and tpro 2 (maybe even leo) will work fine.
so, to answer your question, it is getting a bit old (a year old now) but that doesnt mean its going to disappear. look at the polaris and kaiser
good to hear opinion like that thanks man
the good thing about our phones is that it is still "current" in that the _relatively_ "newly released" TD2 and TP2 have very similar specs to our phone...it's just not at the very top anymore
Falling into obvlivion might be correct, but that doesn't mean the device is bad. If you like a device, you like it nomatter how many new devices are out.
I Dont think its falling into oblivion, look at the specs...
More ram than most, better screen than most, wvga is becoming more and more recognised, you dont get a 3.5mm headphone socket on most other devices, 5mp camera, most others are 3 or below, and really as long as xda developers lives on all devices do too
As far as I can see, it's still the top of the tree until the Leo is released.

HTC are not making a phone called Leo.
Yes. I am a pedant
A month ago I sold my HTC Diamond for a Touch HD...
I had the option to go for a Touch Pro, Diamond 2 etc...
but after trying a few the screen on the Touch HD is far superior to any others tried even the Iphone doesn't look as perfect as the HD.
It runs as fast as both the Touch Pro and Diamond 2.
The only difference in my opinion is the TV out on the Touch Pro.
Its inevitable that as time goes on the HD will eventually become obsolute or redundant as you'll move to pastures green. However with the HD, I feel this is still a bit in the future. There is nothing out there to really make me consider getting my wallet out and purchasing it. As time goes on this will obviously change, but not just yet!!

Now I would have absolutely agreed with you until this last week or so. The HD2 just looks too good to miss.
It'll certainly quieten the missus and her damned iPhone a bit.
Meh, I still got me HTC Universal running, the bigger the HTC the longer they last!
Blackstone is NOT going to fade out so soon.
Crap, I just switched from Polaris to Blackstone... )
And there has to be something much much better than HD2 to make me cry why have I bought HD...
I guess you are right!
about HD2, is just got one ~10 Days ago and i have to tell you, its not that different from the HD.
its just a little bit better in every way, but always just a little
(little faster, manila little smoother, gps little faster, screen a little bigger....)
but so far everything form the hd2 works just fine on hd (exept a free 3D game, forgot the name)
The only phone i would upgrade to is the HD2..
I love this phone! It may be buggy, badly designed vanilla rom and feel like plastic in your hands after a while, but you can do anything with it! It's powerful, got a _sweet_ display and it's the best phone I've tried surfing the web with.. With Opera Mobile 10 that is.
There's no phone out there worth upgrading to yet, this phone has still got atleast 6-12 months left in my hands..
INMHO I do not think that this phone, the HTC HD, will obsoleted soon. The most I read in others forums the most I think that still the HTC HD is on the TOP. The capacitive screen seems better than the one of LEO or HTC HD2, at least for use most application or write an sms. In addition, I have seen this evening in the developers and hacking forum that a multi-touch driver has been released for our HTC HD, so we can have the best of both worlds. Even, the Android runs quite smooth in the HTC HD so you can switch between windows and Android in less than 2 minutes. I am not thinking in change my phone in this moment, I quite satisfied, but If I had not one, I will take the advantage of the new release of the LEO to get a very cheap HTC HD in the second hand market.
If HTC had sorted out the Qualcomm driver situation I'd be all over the HD2, but I'm thinking I'll skip this generation, just not enough of an upgrade for me at the moment...
HD is a great phone

Well, I have mine for about 3 months now.. ans I could have got many other phones.. but I agree with the superlatives you mentioned. skinny too, where most phones are a quarter brick in the pants.. I had to help a colleague with his Kaiser on a WM6.1 and use a stylus , only to realize and appriciate the touch HD.. Is it, eventually, become obsolete? yes, but at least not until 2011.. if I won't break it by then (flashing, or screen cracking it) I will keep it for a longer time. It simply suits my need. I am sure there will be other phoned, but until there is touch HD2 around, working in 3G US, I will keep it, flash it, test it and hope there will be enough chefs on this thread
Thank you folks for the sleepless nights you give me.. my wife is sure I have an affair, or I am into cyber sex.. until it does not stop- I will stay with the HD..

Hi BigE! Long time no speak!
Good to find you in here!! I need your help...
AS you probably remember, I am a Trinity user. With MSkip's ProPlus Ultimate 3.5 QVGA 110209 installed, I am basically at peace. It's perfect for my needs.
BUT...
Recently, I've been tempted to buy a Touch HD, disable the TouchFlo and install MSkip's ProPlus Ultimate 3.5. Is it worth it?
The bigger screen, the more powerful processor, etc, etc... Will I really notice the difference if I just use Spb MS3.5?
I know you're not a massive fan of Spb MS3.5... I use it purely as I need an appointment list on my Today Page. That's why I don't use Manila. That's why as far as I can see I would not be happy with the TouchFlo 3D on the Touch HD. Such a shame it's missing!
I look forward to your advice. Maybe you'll convince me to leave Trinity!?
Mattster.

HD2 or TP2?

Which would you rather pick? The HD2 or the Touch Pro 2??
I wanted the TP2(T-Mobile) before it even came out and was waiting till it came out so I can start saving for it but then the HD2 came out and after seeing all these features it has plus the tweaks and videos on pocketnow.com, I'm thinking now do I want the HD2? I always told myself that if I get another touch screen phone, its going to have a keyboard but the HD2 screen is so long that I might be good with the virtual keyboard. I don't know which to pick now.
What do you guys say??
I've been asking myself a similar question. Dump the TP2 for an HD2? I still haven't come up with a concrete answer but that isn't only because of the hardware keyboard vs. the onscreen SIP.
Here are some of the differences between the TP2 and the HD2. I have mentioned the pro's of each device versus the other.
TP2
* Front VGA Camera (atleast on the unbranded versions)
* Straight Talk feature with Rear Mute button
* Dual Speakerphone and Mic system (part of the Straight Talk feature)
* Best in-class hardware keyboard
* Screen Tilting option (great for movies)
* Fantastic looks and build quality
HD2
* Large 4.3" Capacitive Screen
* Faster Processor
* More Ram
* 5MP Rear Camera with Flash
* Fantastic HTC OEM Car mount accessory. SEE HERE
* Availability of stylus for capacitive screens as an accessory
If you can make your peace without some of the Rhodium features that did not make it over to the HD2, especially the keyboard, then i'd say go for the HD2 with your eyes closed.

Plus, with the new Swype, I hardly even use my real keyboard anymore, I could go HD2 if you can fit it in your pocket.
that carmount looks very nice!
btw, I'm on a tp2 and at times I wish it had a little more power behind it. the HD2 should solve that issue, but takes away the keyboard. I guess I'm going to have to sample it before making a decision on which I would want to keep longer, but the HD2 is the favorite.
Not any virtual keyboard is better and faster than type on a hardware keyboard (at least on my experience)
Just because the keyboard I´ll stay on Rhodium!
I´m sure for 2011 will be a Touch Pro 3 with the specs of Leo (or even better!) but with hardware keyboard! so I´ll bet to that and will wait till 2011
And guys don´t forget to vote for Rhodium!
rhodium ftw!
i guess you can say i have a fetish for wm devices and development...im getting the hd2 when it drops regardless lol. i still use all my old devices from day to day. my only problem with the hd2 is theres no keyboard.
I'm totally disappointed with what is supposed to be the next TP2, aka Tera.
I was rather expecting an HD2 in a TP2 case, as the next device, but 600mhz processor with a smaller screen, seems a no-go so far
Hope 2011 will be a better year for devices with hardware keyboard.
From early indications about the HTC 2010 Windows Phone line up, it looks rather lack luster.
I'm quite disappointed that there isn't a worthy successor to the Touch Pro 2. Considering that the TP2 is a run away success, there is very little that HTC would have to do to improve this device.
Throw in a Capacitive screen, a Snapdragon, more ram, a better camera and a 3.5mm jack on all variants without taking anything that is already in it out and you have a worthy successor to the TP2; one that is sure to be a run away success too.
Really HTC, is it that hard?
I'd settle for just the screen, proc and ram upgrades.
Same dilemma here. I already have the TP2, and i was really really satisfied with my purchase in all aspects! Then the other day i was passing through a phone store and got my hands on the HD2...
I hate that moment because that was when the dilemma of selling my TP2 and getting an HD2 popped up. Like most of you though, i decided (after trying to use only the virtual keyboar on the TP2, which i rarely use btw, and finding it hard to have it as a first input method) to stick to my Rhodium till a TP3 with the screen and other specs of the HD2 plus a hardware keyboard hits the market (hopefully soon enough).

I agree.
My T-Mo contract won't permit me to get a new phone cheaply until mid-2011 anyway, so I'm not too concerned yet.
I just really, really hope that hardware keyboards (in high-end HTC WM devices) don't go the way of 4x3 aspect-ratio laptops...that would really be a shame.
Like most of the guys said, .. and what i say is, if you can live without the QWERTY keyboard, than get an HTC HD2 blind-folded
I am with SPRINT and would LOVE to get the HD2, with only one change. it has to have a keyboard. I have had phones without keyboards, but now that I have a keyboard, I have been hooked. There is another problem that would limit me from getting the HD2. That is SPRINT. I very much doubt that they would get this phone from HTC. That SUCKS! This is only my opinion about this SWEET phone.
Best bet is probably to test drive it. If you find that you absolutely cannot live without the keypad give it back but if the screen compensates for it in your opinion by all means keep it.

Windows mobile phone...

I am looking to get a new windows mobile htc phone. Of course its that time of year an my two year contract happends to be up in feburary so im available for a full upgrade. So im just trying to get some advice from the more experienced programmers, developers as to what kind of phone would you recommend? I would like it if they made a phone like the dash 3G but also with touch screen.. Do they make anything like that right now? I have looked at plenty of phones and am leaning towards the HTC touch pro but im iffy...
HTC Touch Pro is a nice phone.. i actually have a link on some right now are you in toronto area ? i can sell you one in brandnew condition just battery and phone no box or accessories but works we just have these phones left in the back we are a SP ppc test company they are coming up for sale. let me know 175$ cnd cash only in person. ?
Vtheme aka touchFlo 3D Pro wannabe lol its great..
on the s621, touch pro tho in my opinion is best hTC pocket Pc to date i think, even nicer looking then the Touch Pro 2.
Long Live the wm 6.5 HTC S621 and Touch Pro.. Best PPC
Na sorry man Im out of Kansas City but you have pretty decent prices but im wantin to buy new in box items. So you would prefer the touch pro or s621.. Is that the same as the dash 3G?

It's in 10.10 shape was only used 2 charges maybe.. no box ya an anything lol.
I like the S621 cause its keyboard design keys fn.. symbol camera button, IE, and email etc keys are nice i have a Ozone aswell an touch pro but Touch pro is worth getting they rock best design overall and fast and does eveything you want why by a HD when the touch is just as good moreless, still hTCs best looking ppc to date i think. Ozone is a nice phone tho dash 3G is nice a proper hTC Snap : )) touch pro is a wonder for touchflo etc homescreens cabs lots stuff to download to make it do a lot of cool things.
Owning them both i'll make my view:
The s620 is an awesome phone still, but slow processor low on storage and RAM but a nice layout regards smartphone.
CPU:Clock: 201 MHz
RAM_capacity: 64 MiB
ROM-capacity: 128 MiB
Display-Resolution: 320 x 240 (QVGA)
Cellular-Data:Links: CSD, GPRS, EDGE
The Touch Pro is more recent device with better specs and a far easier nicer interface with TF3D also far more programs available.
CPU:Clock: 528 MHz
RAM_capacity: 288 MiB
ROM-capacity: 512 MiB
Display:Resolution: 480 x 640 (VGA)
Cellular_Data_Links: CSD, GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA
Now my s620 is used by the gf the Kaiser is sat on my desk (being cooked) & the TouchPro is in my hand
Hope that helps
hey guys

I would try an get a HTC Dash 3G as the A key is in a bad spot on the snap especially if you are used to the S621 layout but i would honestly get a HTC Ozone.

I am using HTC 7 Mozart.
1. Good size to hold, compare to my previous HD2. (that's why I didn't go for HD7)
2. Xeon Flash, good in nite camera shooting
3. 8Mb Camera with auto focus, I think it is the current highest res camera in WP7
so far.... I love this Mozart then ever.
another little question is better lg optimus 7 or htc mozart
the mozart will be great once there is working software for the hardware
for now i would suggest the optimus, it does better pictures for now...
now i think my mozart 's screen really too small .

LG optimus overall build is suck!
I think you should consider some android or iOS devices.or maybe HTC HD 2,personally I got this device for few months. However,I don't like the features as much as android or iOS...I'll explain to you 1 by 1.
Firstly, let's talk about the WP7 os,actually, it's all about simplicity and animation and transitions.Furthermore, it's a prematured OS,unless you are willing to wait for some major updates more than 6 months.
now look into the Mozart,What I can say is that, the aluminium body is durable and hard, I dropped it 3 times onto the floor(about 1meter high),it is still working great.
however,I think that the disadvantages outweigh the advantages.
Camera- you have to hold it very, very, very damn still, to get a good picture.
-too much noise, images are not clear like a real 8MP.
-the settings are quite annoying,it'll turn back to default setting everytime you start the camera,it never record your previous setting.
Bugs-Marketplace-I find that, when the marketplace is still loading(pretty long though) and you scroll at the same time, marketplace will crash, then you have to reboot your device in order to access the marketplace again?is that annoying?maybe not,if you don't mind keep rebooting, from december till now,I have experienced at least 10times of this situation, pretty frequent.
Microsoft office, unless you are using sharepoint,if not,you are not able to transfer your document into the device,me as a student,i can'even put any lecture notes into it.OMG...how that can be...
Price of apps,is much higher compared to iOS or android, for me in australia,we have to pay some sort of tax on top of the apps.
Long loading time for the apps and the quality of the apps are not good as you expected.
Ok, now back to the body of the Mozart, because it is made by metal, when you playing games or browse internet for like 30mins or 1hour,it'll become very hot at the back.
Finally,is the problem with the design of the button, due to its capacitive button,it is easily to touch any 1 of the 3 buttons.Personally,i think it is annoying, plus the long loading time for the apps.
for example, you are playing games on landscape mode,u can imagine that it is how easy to touch the button accidentally.Once you touch that, disaster coming, you have to resume the game by waiting it load the game again(normally 2-3minutes).If you are unlucky, the game will quit by itself when loading.
If you are not a M$ fanboy, I do not recommend you go for any WP7 devices at THIS MOMENT!!!!!maybe future....
love my mozart phone after changed to 16GB memory card...
i've just sold an htc hd2 because i fell in love with wp7. i've got two offerts one for an lg optimus 7 and one for an htc mozart and i decide to buy the htc mozart
i've an hd7 and i'm looking for a mozart for my wife.
it's got smaller screen and an 8mp camera
I was choosing between LG Optimus 7 and HTC Mozart. First, I was sticked to LG - it was a bit cheaper and has 16 GB of memory.
But then, I found 16 GB Mozart from German T-Mobile in good price. And it looks nicer.
Now, the only issue I found is that stupid "touch" buttons in Mozart - in Optimus buttons are just real plastic buttons which you can press. In Mozart - there are stupid fields you can just touch - sometimes I am touching them by accident. Besides that - Mozart is great.
