Hi guys,
So S-OFF is available, hurray (see dev section).
Then what ? What can I do more with it ? yeah yeah I know technically that it's about enabling full R/W access to everything, but in practical terms, what cool stuff/apps are we able to use now ?
Gimme ideas please

Adfree now updates the hosts file without crashing, thats a bonus

Limitations on rooting the Desire?

So, i've read that according to this: http://android.modaco.com/content/h...e-now-with-hboot-0-80-and-os-to-1-21-support/ there is a few limitations with the root process atm, though i don't fully understand what it means, but am just wondering, will you be able to use those apps that needs root access with the current state of rooting the Desire? Like Market Access?

I haven't read your link, but the root process is painless and works perfectly. All apps that need root access work apart from ones that need rw access to system. System is read only while the phone is booted. The only app that springs to mind is metamorph.
Apps like titanium backup, market enabler all work perfectly.
Okay, thanks for the answer, though since you haven't read the link, which root process did you use on your Desire? The one from the sticky in the Desire development sub-forum here?

All the information you need is in the sticky, its well worth searching and reading the links before posting the question. This has been asked many times before and the thread is very helpful.
Hi, I think I've already met with those limitations I couldn't get the (ratson's) Autokiller to work on my rooted Desire. It won't kill processes/programs automatically in the background, just manually part works. I' ve tried out everything

What makes you think that's a root limitation? The application is bugged. Contact the developer.

[Q] To be clarified

Hi everyone!
I've been reading lots of threads around the forum, evan before i decide to register...
I found lots of helpfull information, actualyi've unlock, debrand and changed my radio thanks to the information found here.
I'm S-Off, Eng-Off, Rooted, Super CID.
Now, this is my question:
I'm runningAndriod 2.2 (I've never chanded this)
Software 1.32.405.6 CL278359 release-keys
Radio 12.28e.60.140fU_26.04.02.17_M2
Is that software version "compatible" with the radio i'm using?
Cause i read somewhere that there's compatible radios for diferent softwares.
I don't want to change my software, first i will loose root, and all the languages available.(I tried the OTA 1.83, and i rolled back to 1.32)
Any sort of help will be (belive me) very helpfull.
I'm new on android (I was on Symbian with samsung i8910), so sorry if i said something stupid or with non sense!

Every custom ROM has its own compatible radio, and is mostly sugfgested along with the ROM, so you shouldnt have any problems... As far I know once you have rooted your system, it stays, but you will have to format everytime you switch ROMs... And the ROM developers do tend to give language support...
Hope I have been helpful!
thank you for your reply...
Another question i have is, is that safe to have the phone S-OFF and ENG-OFF all times?
Also, can i uninstall "superuser" and "visionary plus"?
Or do i still need them?
If i uninstall them do i loose root?
Also another thing is, my radio when i'm not using the home network uses around 75% of the battery usage.
Is this normal?
All the other apps running they use about 2% - 4%...

Hi there!
Sure it is safe to have s-off and eng-off. What are you afraid of? If you're planing to continue modifying your device e.g. flashing other kernels, radios, bootscreen.... you need to have s-off and eng-off. One can say, you'll need it for everything that requires root. Btw I never heard of any threats caused by leaving s-off / eng-off.
You can uninstall visionary plus there won't be any problems with root. It's not an active app that runs in the background of your system preventing you from losing root ;-)! It's not needed anymore as soon as you have permanent root. Uninstall it but keep the *.apk on your SD so you can reinstall it in case you need it again, but you shouldn't as long as you have root, which you won't lose by uninstalling it. Did i make myself clear? ;-)
Superuser....
You should keep it! Because it manages all your root apps. Automatically giving them root rights as soon as they need them. e.g. you're using setCPU for changing your cpu frequency. For doing that setcpu needs root which is granted and managed by superuser. So you won't lose root when uninstalling it but it might be that some of your apps won't work anymore, depending on their superuser rights. As I mentioned, you better keep it.

Could you specify that? where did you see that? What do you mean by home network? Your Wifi at home? What are your general settings? What is synced and how often? What type of network are you using, 2g, 3g, HSDPA, when not connected to wifi? When not using wifi did you turn of the wifi notifications? juices your battery! It is pretty much a setting issue, mostly... and not a radio problem. As i can see in #1 your radio is right.

Hi
Thank you for a so complete answer.
For the first bit I'm clarified.
When i said safe, i was thinking about if was possible any other application damage the
Phone by modify the system folders/files.
About the second, is just because my battery lasts for about 12 hours only... i was just wondering if that is normal...
I admit, i have the phone for about 1 week, and I'm not sure how long should the battery last,
Obviously, depend on usage, but I can tell in the 12 hours of battery, I use the internet for about 1:30 hours.
But thank you for your answer.

[Q] Desire z 1.72 - temp root -ti backup -possible ?

As I am new in this waters maybe my Q is stupid for experienced members and I apologize in advance.
Found successfully the downgrade process and files for rooting my model but somehow i got used to sense atm and going trough rooting and restoring to factory ROM isn t exactly the dream work for noob in Android.
Is there a way to make a decent backup of the phone without perm root ?
Any other use of temp root?
Answers or simple redirections to other similar posts welcome and thank you.
Alex
bump
anyone ?
Anyhing changed in the meantime for 1.72? I also do not need root all the time, so temproot could be fine, but I see no solution so far.
Is it possible to keep phone officially updated and do temproot when needed?

Rooting-For new members here of XDA Galaxy Y Sub-Forums, Rooting is the Basic Mod we do on our Galaxy Y,Since we bought our Galaxy Y at Samsung stores so it comes with limitations to prevent messing up with your System-level files so the Root method is the answer so you will be the true master of your Galaxy Y.
Advantages &Disadvantages of Rooting
Advantages
-You're already the true master of your Galaxy Y.
-You can now use some Root apps from Play Store.
-You can modify now your Galaxy Y like Custom ROM's,Custom Boot Animations etc. that requires ROOT.
Disadvantages
-Your phone's warranty is already voided,It means that if you messed with your System files ,Then the phone manufacturer will reject your phone as it is rooted already,However you can UnRoot your phone if you have problems regarding the buttons etc.
-You can't use some of their Services that comes with your phone.
Just Google "How to Root Galaxy Y" then follow the directions so you can obtain now root access.
use search button and you will get information faster than waiting someone to answer. don't be lazy.
Ty for answer Sean De Jesus.. I heard for temporary root.. Is it exist? If I root phone, should I install custom rom or can only root? Would I got all settings like custom rom? What if something goes wrong? If they wont turn off or something..? I need more info..

Temporary Root will root your device but once you restarted or turned off your phone,Its gone. Its a good step for new phones to test if root is working fine on that device.
It depends on your mood or your knowledge about modding your Galaxy Y,If sonething goes wrong with your Custom ROM then flash back to your Stock ROM or if you have a backup called "Nandroid backup" you can restore it using Skin's CWM.
rooting is just made in order for you to be able to have admin privileges on your phone so that you can by-pass system restrictions
no need to worry, you can always unroot your phone
using the unroot.zip
ps: it's just piled down due to post like this, use the search button to find it
Pls search before posting..

Need some help rooting my 5T

Hello everyone
I would like to root my new 5T but I have no idea where to start. Rooting is new to me so I would really appreciate it if someone could explain it to me.
I've noticed that there are alot of different ROMS available, I have no idea what the difference is between all of them and which one would be the best for me.
I'm not looking for the most complex one out there. I'm from the Netherlands so it's a bit hard for me to understand all the topics on this forum and to explain myself correctly.
All help is much appreciated! :good:

Thanks! I'll have a look at that.
I read somewhere that some apps won't work on a rooted device such as Pokemon Go and that you have to install something in order for them to work. Could someone explain this?
Some apps won't work if rooted. Your options are to either not use that app or try hiding root with Magisk (one of phone apps that manages root access). If you use SuperSU for root access or have XPosed installed, then your only option is to not use the Pokemon Go (or whatever app was giving you trouble).
