Simple and useful way to take screenshots on your SGS:
Press back button and keep it pressed; while pressing back button, press home button. The phone will vibrate and the screenshot will be saved into sdcard/ScreenCapture.
I've tested it only on JPK, plase report if working on other FWs!
it was already documented before
it is a FROYO only feature
ECLAIR does not have it
nice one,
didn't know it.

How to hide the combined Status Bar on ICS (root required!)
I think many ppl are searching for a solution to hide the status bar on ICS, since the Hacks from Honeycomb doesnt work on ICS.

The Hack is tested on [ROM][ICS] Team Eos ICS 1.0.0 (umts_everest). Let others know if you have experiences with other roms. I´ll update this post after ur feedback.

I would like to try this but I don't wanna be the guinea pig.
There's nothing super risky in changing the services.jar.
Make a backup of yours and you can push it back with ADB if you got a bootloop.
Nice, and thanks.
Wish there was a way to incorporate this into my app without needing the external jar file to be replaced (like it is in HC).
I have an app on Market that is a Kiosk browser app, but currently only for Honeycomb. It'd be sweet if it could work for ICS as well

I don't think there is a way to do it without a "special" version of the jar (policy or services)
In HoneyComb you could hide the bar, but with ICS Google remove that option, now the bar is "enforced" due the soft buttons and notification stuff.
new version online. see first post!
thx dabidu
Maybe this could go to the development section.
I add the .diff file with all the required changes on the source code to get the toggle the bar on and off, so anyone building a new rom from souce could implement this "feature"

I try this on eos 68. Its working with a big BUT.
No way to trigger the status bar back in application. Rotate the screen didnt work either.
Most of apps on market do not have exit button. So i can only use restart using log press power button.
I hope you could add the toggle setting on log press power button. That will do the jobs.

I understand about how to use. But if you could change the setting apk to include in display setting menu. Why not add it to the long press power button menu where the shutdown, reboot recovery and soo on.
It would become easy to use without need extra swipe application.
Just advice. No need to angry.
Nb: when using mxvideoplayer playing movies. Cannot toggle the status bar. But dice player just fine.
Amazing mod, you dont even need swipe pad. Thanks man.
You can just change back and forth from settings, sometimes after you select the bar again, it wont show, make a rotation and it will show again.

It's more than just a build.prop tweak.
Someone mentioned android.policy.jar and that is correct.
You also have to modify the keyboard layout files.
Take apart WildChild ROM for a reference, or else just scour the XDA forums for specifics (search on "smali editing", which is what you'll need to do for the aforementioned .jar file)
Good luck,

[19.08.13] -->> SENSE 5 <<----->> Volume Wake JB-> with deep sleep fix :)
So after i upgrade to jb the first thing i miss was s2w kernel (hope we get the source fast and show-p can do some magic)
As a containment i wanted to get volume wake to work (as we know wake over power button is mmmmhhhhh) After some use of the greatest thing in xda...the search button...i get a how to volume wake
DOWNLOAD SENSE 5 Volume Wake
->important...my mod is based on apm mod from here...so you need to have this installed
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44734537&postcount=28
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ale...th_deep_sleep_fix_Alex-V_SENSE_5.zip/download
STORY TO THIS:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1585309
was not for jb and i only have minimum skills in smali coding so i delete :
0x18 -> :sswitch
0x19 -> :sswitch
and the rest in the how to...after that volume wake works but not in deep sleep...
so i searched again and get this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2038726
flashed the init.d script and now volume wake also works in deep sleep
The version i uploaded here is from jotha´s Advanced Power Menu Mod (so you must have a rom with this in) and is also patched with lyapota´s kill app mod...
My thx to all those devs
If you cant get it to work...make your own android.policy.jar with the how to...

Alex, awesome work! works on the brilliant rom: bugx 2.3!
Do you know how I can achieve the following: I'm running exchange policy (mandatory at my company). I've got an 'screen off and lock' button installed. When I use this screen off button, I always have to fill in my pin number, even when set on 30 minutes... I don't want to use the exchange disabler (which are found often in aroma installers), but would like to be able to use the phone as with gingerbread (just press the off button on your homescreen, activate the screen again with the volume down button (the last for wat your awesome mod does!)). The current screen off buttons/widgets all have a delay of some seconds... which is anoying... I can imagine that this is an app related thing, but if you know if there's a value which can be altered for the 'time out', that would be awesome!
Is there a way to achieve this, of your knowing?
cheers and many many thanks for this great mod (and for your awesome roms for desire )
