i bought my Droid incredible just less then a month ago (early september), and i am wondering if my phone is using the AMOLED display or the new SLCD display. does any one know how to find out?
I believe if you turn off the phone and boot into recovery by holding down the Volume Down button while pressing Power, it will tell you in the stats at the top of the screen.
EDIT: Nvm, that just tells you the "Touch Panel" version/model. Not sure if you can identify it off of that.
They only recently started the switch to S-LCD. If you bought it a month ago, then you 99% have an AMOLED display.
You have an AMOLED screen,
They just started rolling the SLCD's out.
The SLCD SKU code is: (ADR6300VW3)

i was just looking through some on the settings on my device and i was at setting>about phone>phone identity and where it said my model number it said ADR6300, i just found this here so does this mean i am an SLCD screen?
The model number for all Incredibles are ADR6300. That's not indicative of whether you have an S-LCD of AMOLED screen.
ok so i found the box to my phone and the SKU number on mine is ADR6300VW2, so i guess that means it is an AMOLED screen and not slcd.
also does any one know what kind of screen is on the Droid 1? i thought the screen on the droid 1 looked much better than the screen on my incredible but it also drained the battery faster then the incredibles, which made me start to believe my incredible actually had the SLCD screens. but i guess i was wrong. i thought amoleds are supposed to look better than this? so far i am not impressed with the display on my new Droid incredible....

Hello I was just doing my usual XDA browsing and checked out your thread. I have had the AMOLED Inc for about a month now (bought it used for $100 after buying a Droid X for 300 so $400 for both). Anyways over this last month it has by far become my day to day device as it seems much quicker than my X or Droid 2 and the UI is much better than that buggy Moto skin. I ended up sending back my Droid 2 and ordered me a brand new Inc since I liked it so much. I really loved the screen on the Droid 2 (same as D1) and it was really clear. I have been using a Nexus One since March and a Samsung Captivate since launch before dumping ATT for Verizon (just got a great job at Verizon and get 50% off bill). Anyways the new Inc is SLCD and I have spent the last two days comparing the two. I have always been a huge fan of AMOLED and thought I would never use anything else. I thought for sure I would miss my AMOLED screen, but I have to say that the SLCD is better in my opinion. They both have their selling points, but the text is so much clearer as the SLCD doesn't use Pentile Matrix Pixel Arrangement (check out this link it tells all bout it http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/news...exus-ones-screen-science-color-and-hacks.ars/). The screen is not quite as bright but it is very hard to tell a difference in fact the only difference I can tell is in the blacks as they are true on AMOLEDs and make the screen really pop. Another thing I like about the SLCD is the fact that the whites are very bright and in AMOLED they seem to be a Gray color (do a search on the N1 XDA forums you will see that a dev has made great adjustments to that screen). The battery also seems to be quite a bit better on the SLCD and I even tried my old battery today to see if that is true.
I hope this all helps hit me up if you need anymore help or pics or something as I have been thinking of making a youtube vid comparing the two before I sell the AMOLED Inc.

My screen shows banding on screens with gradients, like the call log screen, or screens with certain colors, like when I'm playing wordfeud. Even when I'm browsing the white background has faint horizontal and vertical lines.
All of this is only visible when on the lowest brightness setting. So when I'm browsing in bed at night etc it's really annoying.
I went to the (3) store here in denmark, but because it was a well lit room, the problem was barely visible and they said they'd have to send it in for "assesment", and best if i could come back in January and send it in (for 2-3 weeks). I'm just afraid they'll just return it with "problem not found"
I DID manage to report the problem to them on the 14th day after i bought it, their own DOA limit, but I've got a feeling I'm going to get screwed. Especially because the in store phone ALSO seemed to show the same color banding on the call log background.
I've tried taking some pictures that maximize the problem here: http://imgur.com/a/CbKYi#9
Are you guys seeing the same thing on any of your devices?
I love the phone to death otherwise, but it's like a scratch on a brand new car, it's annoying me a LOT.
unfortunately, that's just how they all are. has to do with the display type. both of the nexus' i've had were the same way, as was the display unit in my local verizon store.

You aren't seeing "banding" in the traditional screwed up screen sense, you're seeing the back of the display. I think it's just part of being SAMOLED and Pentile. I never noticed it until I started reading all the threads about people complaining over "banding" (and I don't think you're complaining LOL ).
Bump it up from the dimmest setting just a bit and most of it will go away. Our dimmest setting is REALLY good, at least compared to my old SGS. I also like how are screens don't have that SGS SAMOLED blue tint to them.

All 4 phones and 7 models that I've gotten to use from Samsung have this problem.

happy to hear my phone is not defective, but then again im very disappointed that this is a quality issue with the phone.
I read tons off aritcles discussing the difference between Super AMOLED and Super AMOLED plus (pentile and RGB) and this forum probably did the best job of explaining it
now is this also the reason why whites arent really white while having hte phone in auto brighntess? is the screen is dim, my "people" app is not white, actually far from it. but when the brightness is maxed out it looks magnificent

I was disappointed by the screen quality at first too, but the more I use the phone the less I notice it. I've even started to really like other aspects of the display that were lacking in other phones with a "clean" screen. Colors are much more vibrant for one, this is very visible when watching videos on the phone when I'm at the gym.
A prevalent question on these Nitro forums is whether or not to buy it...As compared to <whatever> phone. I think the most common comparison is with the Samsung Galaxy S2.
The problem is, the GS2 is an 800x480 resolution phone. To get an idea of why that doesn't make sense, go ahead and set your laptop's screen resolution to 800x600. How's that look to you? Now walk over to your computer and set it to 1280x800, how's that?
Not exactly a controlled and scientific comparison right? Different systems, different screens, different just about everything.
IMHO, if you're considering the Nitro and want to compare it to something?...Then there's really only 1 other phone (in the US, anyway); the HTC Rezound which has the exact same CPU/GPU chipset and 1280x720 screen (LCD though, not IPS). You could also compare with the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, there's a LOT of variances there too but it's one of the only phones that also has the 1280x720 screen.
I stress the commonality of 1280x720 because not everything works properly (or even at all) when trying to display at this resolution and also there's potential draw delays to compensate. So make sure you're looking at the other phones that could share this same hurdle so you set your expectations accordingly.
good points, thanks!
To add two more 720P phones were announced at ces coming to AT&T. The Sony Xperia Ion and the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket HD.
@Namura: Appreciate the "cold water" treatment. might make others think twice both for flaming the P930 and the comparison to other units.
@Kindawack: prototypes/announced phones don't figure into what he is talking about, as they are not market launched yet.
Knock it off all stay on topic and stop arguing, doesn't belong on xda!!!

Yeah, I wonder about the validity of their info as well. Considering the Samsung Note LTE for AT&T was only announced yesterday at CES...With the only confirms being 1.5GHz Qualcomm chipset (but no verification as to which model) and availability as "in the coming months"...Whereas that pdadb shows it as releasing in Feb and has the same APQ8060 chip as our Nitro.
man, i am way past waiting for the next kick ass phone to be released. I had been waiting since the droid bionic announcement (the 1st one ;-0) prior to getting this nitro.
not playing the *let's give it another month and see what's released* game no mo!

Yup, I agree. I spent 5 months waiting for nothing..... as each day passes I'm more and more pleased with the Nitro.

I am constantly hoping for a CWM breakthrough for our phone but then I remember that I am actually 100% satisfied with my rooted, debloated, blue icon and battery mod, go launcher ex Nitro, then I don't worry about CWM as much.
Same here. As long I am rooted, debloated, custom launcher (zean) and sim unlocked I am good. Custom roms would nice but a lot of time, they are a pain to keep up.

I know benchmarks dont mean squat, but I am surprised how Nitro HD fairs well in any 3D benchmarks especially with 720p screen and sub-optimised soft. See attached Antutu benchmark. Barely behind Galaxy Nexus with ICS.
I just fired up Shadowgun and it does drop a frame here and there. No Tegra afterall but 4.5 inch 720p is looking better than I remember playing on Atrix 4G.
LMAO
IPS is just one type of LCD,
IPS, MVA, PVA, ASV are all good screen types,
the only bad screen is TN, which is never used on high end android devices.
AMOLED sucks IMO, over saturated, and your vision killer. Dont even mention most of the AMOLED on the market is pentile display.

scores well eh. got a bit better score just now
The score is about same when you compare the top 3.
Not much differences.
I have 2 HOX's one bought last month and one i won yesterday, I was comparing them there after i recieved the new one, and they appear to have different screens.
Well i don't actually know if they are different, i have no way of telling other than comparing them side by side and the one i got yesterday seems to be much better and my older one the whites are abit greyer, like the differences with the sensation when that came out.
Not sure if you can tell the difference between the 2, i used a sensation to take the picture.
The one on the left is the newer hox with the better screen.

Sharp, Acer and Sony
My HOX screen looks like the one on the right and it's made in Taiwan (HT24.. serial number). It probably depends on where the phone was built.
Off topic, just curious but did you win this from the Androidandme.com contest?
My grey one is HT23YW and the white one is HT242W.
No i didn't win it from androidandme.

How we find out which one we use ?
For the sensation i used terminal emulator to find the screen manufacturer, but i can't seem to find it out on the HOX.
Any fastboot or adb commands?
I found out that my screen is the color on the right when comparing with my friend yesterday. It pisses me off tbh. When comparing, the color on my phone doesnt look white it looks yellowish. Annoying. Anything one can do about this?

So basically leaving users who paid the same amoint of money with a less nicer screen is intended and in no way an error or so?

Do we actually know they use these panel-manufacturers? It's never been confirmed, as far as I know. And I've never seen a Sharp IPS, I think. So my guess it's something like Sony, Samsung (as the first article with microscope image on the one x display said it was, and at the same time confirmed IPS) and probably LG. But it's just speculation, but since I've never seen a sharp ips, I don't think they have updated they're factorys just for this. But if someone knows for sure these are the displays (and not because of past relations, we all know they used them in sensation) then I'm sorry.

Hello everyone,
I've just jumped to M9 from my old, but still as hard as stone Sennie not even two weeks ago. And today I got another M9 for my gf. My phone is a Taiwan M9U model, and hers, which I got today is M9 shipped to Germany. And here the story began, I turned on the new phone -note that mine was new too- and realized that colors on the displays look different. There cannot such big difference of course as they have the same screen technology with same resolution and size. However, still, on the German one, whites are whiter, on the Taiwan model whites are a bit yellowish -not as much as amoleds- but still yellowish compared to the new one.. Overally, German M9 screen looks better than the Taiwan M9U.
Note: Both phones are stock, not touched, updated to the latest version, display temperature vs. everything default.
Here are some possible reasons for that problem:
1. I remember Sensation screens were produced by two different manufacturers, and they had slight color balance differences of course. So this is one of the possible reasons for this difference (could not check the Panel id, getting permission denied when I put dmesg command. Dont know if this way I can get the screen brand on these phones, this was how we did to get Sensation display model/brand).
2. Taiwan phone was manufactured within one of the first sets of M9 models, so it is one of the earliest M9 phones, while the German one is 5 months old HTC live support agent says. So the changes in the display colors may be due to changing materials or whatever in time.
3. Probably the worst one here: Screen gets yellowish in time as the phone gets a bit hot, though it has been only 12 days since I started using my M9.
I will try to provide photos later, as I need another camera to show that clearly.
I am sorry if this is mentioned in the forum before.
I don't have a direct link but this topic has already been discussed several times. Boot to download mode and enter the system info menu. The line with TP at the beginning tells you which touch panel is built into your phones. There are M9 with a synaptics touch panel and others with a maxim (or something like that) touch panel.

Thanks for the information. M9 has Synaptics touch controller, dont have any idea about the other brand you have. And synaptics manufactures LCD displays in this case?
Ah, my bad. I was in a hurry when I wrote my last post and mixed two things together. There are two touch panel versions and if I remember correctly the maxim one (or however it is called) had/has problems with some custom roms. The silver / gold and gold have white lines.
The gunmetal had black lines.
There were early testing units with black lines that never reached production.

Might be being paranoid due to 2 XL screen issues but has anyone notice a yellowish tint to the screen? It almost seems like off axis is more pure white and looking directly on is a warmer white if that makes sense. Might try to take pics but not sure I can capture it.
I haven't noticed any hardware problems with the display yet, although I do have black clipping in movies.
Instead of starting a new thread I decided to post my issue here because it's screen related. I don't have any yellow hue with my screen. I unfortunately have a pinkish hue on the right side of my phone. I saw it immediately after powering up for the first time. Kinda reminds me of the S8+ fiasco. It's just in the right side and starts about the middle of the screen and heads up to the top. I called Google and they took my issue very seriously. They wanted pictures and it's a very hard thing to capture with a video or pic but they said they could see it in one of the pics I sent. They have me play some white screen YouTube video and wanted a picture while that was playing. Anyways, they took my info about the issue to some higher ups and called me back about an hour and a half later. The person I dealt with was nice but a bit pushy with getting pic results. He was concerned about some widespread issue because the phone was just released. So he said that these panels have some color shifting (ok? Already went over that) but offered to send out a new replacement. That is me basically buying another and not getting charged unless my original phone isn't returned on time. I'm very disappointed with the screen having this issue. I went through the whole blue screen last year. I had to get two replacements until I received a "good one." Anyone else having screen issues with color?
Sorry to hear about your yellowish screen issue. If you aren't happy with it I'd return it. There are a few friends of mine that have great screens
Here is what I'm noticing. Maybe that's just the way it is and it's something I've never noticed before. The funny thing is I have a Xs Max and the Pixel looks better. Interestingly enough the second picture (pure white) looks similar to the Xs max if true tone is turned off.

My display is great. Beautiful. I'm grateful too because I went through 7 2 XL's before I found one with a display I could deal with.
Adaptive brightness, if on, will turn the screen yellowish in low light conditions.
Otherwise, I didn't notice anything since I received the phone today. I've been using it all day.
Nope, mine has been fantastic. Looks great.
Going to have to go check other devices in store. Can't tell if what I'm seeing is normal without another unit to compare.

+1 I've seen some "comparisons" saying the 3 was warmer than the 3XL they saw. I'm opposite here. Received a 3 before launch day. Nice, cool screen (which is my preference). Phone felt way too small for me so I picked up a 3XL at Best Buy yesterday. Quite a bit warmer than the 3. Returning that one today haha.

Haha If it's noticeable straight away and takes away the enjoyment of the screen then a swap is the best way. I've had devices from Samsung, Huawei, OnePlus, Google etc and I've had bad tints or uneven whites on them all..so part of the oled game

Might be being paranoid due to 2 XL screen issues but has anyone notice a yellowish tint to the screen? It almost seems like off axis is more pure white and looking directly on is a warmer white if that makes sense. Might try to take pics but not sure I can capture it.
